Introduction: This is the first Dharma disc given by the Buddha to the five Kieu Tran Nhu brothers at Loc Uyen garden after his enlightenment. This discourse summarizes the main points of the Paths of Liberation, namely the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
The following is a translation of Pham Kim Khanh in the book "Buddha and Dharma", the original work of Venerable Narada (The Buddha and His Teachings).
-oOo-
At that time, I heard something like:
At one time, when the Blessed One lived in Deer Park (1) of Isipatana (2), near Benares, he taught the five bhikkhus as follows:
"O bhikkhus, there are two extremes (anta) that the renunciants (pabbajitena) must avoid:
- The malleability in sensual pleasures (3) - is vile, vulgar, mundane, unworthy of the virtues of the noble, and useless.
- The earnest attachment in the ascetic way of life (4) - is suffering, unworthy of the noble, and useless.
Abandoning both extremes, the Tathagata (5) realized the path of the Middle Way (Majjhima Patipada), the path of bringing sight (cakkhu) and knowledge (nana) and leading to tranquility (vupasamaya) ( 6), sublime wisdom (abhinnana) (7), enlightenment (sambhodhaya) (6) and Nirvana.
O bhikkhus, the path of the Middle Path that the Tathagata has realized, the way to bring vision and knowledge and lead to peace, sublime wisdom, enlightenment and Nirvana?
It is the Noble Eightfold Path (the path with eight genera) - Right Understanding (samma ditthi), Right Thought (samma samkappa), Right Speech (samma vaca), Right Action (samma kammanta), Right Livelihood (samma ajiva) , Right Effort (samma vayama), Mindfulness (samma sati), and Right Concentration (samma samadhi). O bhikkhus, that is the Middle Path that Tathagata has realized.
(Buddha preached again :)
O bhikkhus, now, this is the Noble Foot of the Suffering (dukkha - ariya - sacca, dukkha ):
Being born is suffering, being old is suffering, being sick is suffering, dying is suffering, living with the person you don't like is suffering, being away from loved ones is suffering, desiring not to be suffering, in summary, the body itself is sleeping. suffering (9).
Now, O bhikkhus, this is the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering (dukkha-samudaya-ariya-sacca, the Noble Truth of Suffering):
It is Craving is the cause of rebirth (ponobhavika). Craving with the heart earnestly craving, clinging to this or that (life). It is love, clinging to sensual desires (kamatanha), craving, clinging to existence (bhavatanha, birth of love, attachment to the idea that everything is eternal), and love, clinging to attachment according to the idea of non-existence (vibhavatanha, non-being, attachment to the idea that after death is nothingness).
Now, O bhikkhus, this is the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering (dukkha-nirodha-ariya-sacca, eradicating the Noble Truth):
That is the complete alienation and the annihilation of that very love. That is the detachment, the rejection, the detachment, and the detachment from craving.
Now, O bhikkhus, this is the Truth of the Path to the Cessation of Suffering (dukkha-nirodha-gamini-patipada-ariya-sacca, the path to destroying the Noble Truth):
These are the Eightfold Path: Right Understanding, Right Aspiration, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.

(To conclude the Dharma, Buddha, teach :)
O bhikkhus, the day of absolute Tathagata's knowledge of the four Noble Truths, under three nuances and twelve modes (10), was not completely unraveled, until then, Nhu Lai did not confirm in advance the world of gods, demons, and Brahma, among the monks, Brahmin, Heaven, and him that the Tathagata realized the supreme Right Enlightenment (anuttaram samma sambodhim).
Until then, O bhikkhus, the absolute Tathagata's absolute knowledge of the four dharmas, under the three nuances and the twelve modes, has become utterly enlightened, only then, will the new Tathagata confirming in advance the world consisting of gods, demons and Brahmins, among them Sa-Mon, Brahmin, Heaven and Him that the Tathagata has realized the Supreme Enlightenment of Right Understanding.
And at that moment, knowledge and wisdom arise at the Tathagata (nanadassana) - the mind of the Tathagata has been completely liberated, unwavering, and this is the last life, no longer exists. another (11). "
The Buddha preached like that and the bhikkhus took delight in praising the Buddha's teachings.
When the Buddha finished teaching the Dharma, Dhammacakkhu (12) of His Excellency Kieu-Tran-Nhu (Kondanna) was no longer dusty, free from dust, and he saw that " whatever arises, there must be death ". (13).
When the Blessed One changed the Falun, the devas on the globe shouted, "This Falun is truly wonderful! There is no sa, Brahmin, Chu, Ma, or Brahma in the world who can preach All right, the Blessed One transported the Falun at the Deer Park garden, the Zhen-Thien-God-Land (Isipatana) near Ba-Nai (Benares). "
Listen to such gods in the four heavenly heavens, Ðao Loi, Da Ma, Dau Da, Hoa Lac Thien, Tha Hoa Liberation, and gods in Pham Thien Thien, Brahma Purohita, Dai Pham Thien, Thieu Quang Thien, Immeasurable Quang Thien, Quang Am Thien, Thieu Tinh Thien, Immeasurable Pure Land, Variable Pure Land, Quang Qua Thien, Imam Thien, Vo Phien Thien, and Chu Thien in the Realm of Pure Pure Realm The Nine Schools, Thanh Tinh, Beautiful, Quang Dang and Supreme, also cheered in unison.
It was at that moment, in that moment, the cheering came to Pham Thien. Those ten thousand worlds were shaken, shaken and shaken vigorously.
A radiant aura shines, illuminates the world, is much clearer than the glory of the devas. The Buddha said, "Kondanna is enlightened, Kondanna is enlightened."
Therefore, Mr. Kondanna is named Annata Kondanna (A elegant Kieu Tran Nhu).
