LEGAL MEANING. We all understand the meaning of spreading the Dharma, which is to bring the teachings of the Buddha to spread throughout the world, to help sentient beings where they were awakened in the beginning. We all understand that monks and nuns have a responsibility to propagate the Dharma, and lay Buddhists have a responsibility to protect and help the Three Jewels to exist for a long time. In the past, during the time of the Dharma and the Statue of Dharma, the responsibility of propagating the Dharma was the responsibility of monks and nuns. But today is the Dharma Ending Age, we cannot stand by and watch or divide the responsibilities, but all Buddhist disciples, whether ordained or at home, must have the responsibility to propagate the Dharma, because this is the responsibility. of the four groups of Buddha's disciples. Four of them, ie two rows of disciples are monks and nuns; The two lay disciples are male and female lay disciples. Once upon a time, during the time of the Dharma and the Statue of Dharma, Lay Buddhists do not have the ability to propagate the Dharma, because the problem of printing and translating the sutras is very difficult, so the propagation of the Dharma only depends on monks and nuns. But today is completely different because of advanced science and technology. In addition, the scriptures are fully translated, printed and recorded easily and the means of transport are also very quick, so all lay Buddhists, whether young or old, wise or foolish, rich or poor, have the ability to promote the Dharma. Just every day we spend less wasteful, save money and time to help or print scriptures, record tapes for circulation everywhere, we can spread the Dharma to save others. But before we want to spread the Dharma to save birth, we need to have wisdom, know which scriptures to circulate are the ultimate goals, to help sentient beings easily cultivate, achieve and be reborn in one lifetime. We should not publish sutras or tapes... that are of no benefit to living beings' rebirth as Buddhas. If we do not have enough wisdom to choose the scriptures, we should consult with monks, nuns and true laity whom we feel trust and respect. And if we don't have enough wisdom, don't have the opportunity to meet monks, nuns and lay people, we just print the scriptures of the Buddhas and Patriarchs or circulate stories with evidence of rebirth or rebirth. are magical stories of Buddhism. By doing so, our preaching of the Dharma will not be confused, because the ancestors are all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who have appeared again, so your teachings are correct. (The Patriarchs that we are talking about here are those who have witnessed the Way and have been recorded in the history of Buddhism from time immemorial.) In addition to consulting with true practitioners, we also have a way to use our mind to discern. If we read a book or listen to a certain tape and immediately become enlightened, open our wisdom, give up evil, practice good, and practice diligently, then those scriptures and tapes will be of benefit to us and to others. beings. After understanding which scriptures and tapes are the ones to save sentient beings, let us generate compassion and circulate everywhere: From high mountains to valleys, from cities to rural areas, from caves to alleys. narrow, from prisons to love camps. In short, we should not make distinctions such as: Race, religion, rich or poor, believe or not believe, have roots or not, have predestined or not. It is our responsibility to bring the Buddha Dharma into circulation everywhere. The important thing is to always ask yourself whether your heart is doing its best to save birth? If you have done your best, then you should not worry about problems such as: Praise, blame, suspicion, etc. of the world because all those actions and words have nothing to do with them. ta. If you are a Dharma preacher but your mind is worried about one end or the other, you haven't saved people but you are afraid of people who don't believe or slander, how can you save sentient beings? Please remember one thing: When Shakyamuni Buddha was in the world, his words were full of critics, haters, believers, and doubters, let alone our words. Today is the Dharma Ending Age, and sentient beings' minds and morals are very poor, so they only like to run after greed, hatred, and delusion, and find it difficult to accept noble and virtuous things. But that doesn't mean we get discouraged and give up. The more deluded beings become, The more crazy we are, the more diligently we will practice. As for the good roots, merits, and conditions of sentient beings, there is no form, and even if there is a form, we do not have enough wisdom to distinguish it. Only Buddhas and bodhisattvas can see the conditions of sentient beings, so we should not have a discriminating mind. Dear friends! Buddhas and Bodhisattvas always appear to this Saha world to save sentient beings non-stop. Especially in this Dharma-ending age, the more confused and confused sentient beings are, the more Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will appear here. Each of them has different vows and forms of forgiveness, ordinary people like us cannot contemplate their appearance. Now, we learn into three basic ways of disseminating the Dharma, that is: Wisdom to propagate the Dharma, pure talent to propagate the Dharma and elaborate to propagate the Dharma. I. Wisdom to propagate the Dharma is to say that those with wisdom and superior ability receive the path of the Tathagata's karma, to teach sentient beings to enlightenment, to leave delusion. (This way of preaching the Dharma, monks, nuns and lay people are more capable.) II. Pure talent preaching the Dharma is about people who do not have enough wisdom, but try to work hard day and night to save money and time to help or print the Sutras to circulate widely, helping sentient beings to enlightenment. , out of love. (This way lay Buddhists are more capable). III. The practice of spreading the Dharma is referring to the practice of every Buddhist child. In terms of teaching the Dharma, there is no distinction between monasticism or lay people, because all sentient beings have the ability to become Buddhas. Talking about the practice of spreading the Dharma, we don't need wisdom, superior faculties or money. but we just need the old man to really recite Amitabha Buddha's name is enough. The old man really recites the Buddha's name, which means that we have a deep faith in the Buddha's name and do not question or doubt. The practice of reciting the Buddha's name is a cause, the cause will produce merit, the merit will produce the result, when the fruit is ripe, we will become a Buddha. When I become a Buddha, I will be able to save countless sentient beings, so anyone can do it with the effort of spreading the Dharma. As long as we are reborn in Amitabha Buddha land and leave eloquent evidence for posterity, then the proof of our rebirth will be a sublime speechless sermon, even if we don't preach a word. (This way of propagating the Dharma, both monastics and lay people are able to). Dear friends! The three methods of preaching the Dharma above, although each person has different responsibilities to propagate the Dharma, but in terms of achievement of merit and virtue, they are the same, no more, no less, and they all capture all three of the basics of giving, that is: Dharma giving, almsgiving and fearless giving. Cultivators who want to achieve the path of karma must have all these three acts of generosity, because this is the baggage to help us be reborn as a Buddha. Dharma of giving: That is, we must bring the teachings of the Buddha to pass on to all sentient beings. Gifts of alms: That is, we give money that we have or use our strength to help people. The almsgiving consists of two parts, namely: internal and external resources. Donating money or items belongs to the external talent of giving, and devoting one's strength belongs to the internal gift of giving. Fearless almsgiving: Means bringing happiness and peace to everyone. Now, we look into the achievement of merit and virtue of these three ways of spreading the Dharma. I. Wisdom to propagate the Dharma Is to say those who practice hard and cultivate the scriptures day and night to preach the Dharma to save sentient beings. Effort, belongs to internal resources and almsgiving. After becoming successful, this person brings his practice experience and understanding to open the wisdom for sentient beings, this belongs to the dharma of giving. Sentient beings, after hearing the Buddha's teachings, are enlightened, free from delusion, and this belongs to fearless giving. II. Pure talent preaching Dharma is said to those who bring their own money to print scriptures, tapes, create statues, etc. to circulate widely. Money and goods are alms-giving. Those who have no money but know how to use their efforts to help distribute scriptures, tapes, or do merit, this belongs to the internal resources of almsgiving. In the scriptures, tapes, and teachings of the Buddha, this belongs to the dharma of giving. Those who read the scriptures, listen to the tapes and get enlightenment, leave delusion, happy and peaceful, this belongs to fearless giving. III. The practice of spreading the Dharma is to say that those who recite the Buddha's name will be reborn as a Buddha. After being reborn, this person leaves eloquent evidence for posterity or voluntarily returns to save sentient beings. The practice of cultivation belongs to the internal resources of almsgiving. The proof of rebirth is a sublime speechless dharma, which belongs to the dharma of almsgiving. Sentient beings, after seeing the evidence, no longer doubt and joyfully believe deeply in reciting the Buddha's name, this belongs to fearless giving. Although the three methods of propagating the Dharma above have different places, they have the same purpose: "Lead living beings to meet Amitabha Buddha". If we want to accomplish the path of karma and repay the favor for the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the three generations and ten directions, we should hold hands and support each other, to save sentient beings from samsara and be reborn as Buddhas. IV. Reminder When looking for monks, nuns or lay people to consult about the printing of scriptures or tapes, we must know how to find the right teacher and the right method, then we can expect good results. If we want to publish sutras, books and tapes belonging to the Pure Land method, we should consult the monks, nuns and lay people who are practicing about the Pure Land method. If we want to ask about Zen Buddhism or about Tantra, we should ask monks, nuns and lay people who are practicing Zen Buddhism or Tantra. We should not take the scriptures belonging to the Pure Land method to ask Zen or tantric practitioners, because by doing so we will not get a satisfactory answer and even become distracted. Why? Since Zen cultivators enter from the Void gate, and Pure Land cultivators enter from the Dieu General's gate, the understanding and practice of these two methods are completely different. Please be careful about this, otherwise you will be in big trouble. Just like in real life: If you want to invest in firm A, then you have to find out what belongs to company A, doing so will give you a satisfactory answer. You should not invest in firm A but consult with firm B, doing so will only harm yourself standing at a fork in the road. When we have the ability and financial resources to publish the scriptures or tapes, we should open our hearts with compassion to help fellow initiates who cannot afford it. Let's help everyone have the means to cultivate good roots and merit. For example: There was a certain Buddhist who read a good book and wanted to print it out to give to everyone, but couldn't afford to print as many copies as the printer required. If we can afford it and find the book beneficial, then we should stand out in advance to print a large number and then divide it back to fellow initiates with the cost we paid for the printing house, so that they have a chance to propagate the Dharma. (If we are the owner of the printing house, it is easier to do this.) But we have to see how many people want to print that book. If we have a lot of money, then we will pay the net money first, it will not be affected to our finances and family activities. In short, we help fellow practitioners depending on our circumstances and circumstances, so it's not good to let our families suffer. Like our sisters for many years, in the US and in Vietnam, we have done two works of Buddhism and charity, that is: One, helping to receive money from friends from all over the world sent to print scriptures and publish books. birth,... Two, help print out the scriptures and send them to those Buddhists who can't afford to print them. In terms of money, our sisters are very poor. Being so poor, there are times when a printing house is ordered to print sutras, Buddha images, etc., but there is no money to pay for the printing house in advance. But thanks to the trust, the printer is willing to print the book first and pay later. After printing and bringing the book home, we had to distribute and send the book to temples and Buddhists everywhere. After distributing all the scriptures, Buddha images, etc., we fell into a state of worry because we did not have enough money to pay for the printing house. But do you believe it? The blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are very miraculous, inconceivable. Because every time we were in a state of anxiety, naturally there were net resources sent to us to pay off that debt. There is a miracle: These resources are sent to us from different places, but when we add this net amount together, it's just enough for us to pay off the debt, no surplus and no shortage. There are times when we feel emotional and can't hold back our tears. It is also thanks to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who are always by our side, that we have the courage to stand up to take on our debt and do Buddha work until today. Through the years of doing Buddhist work, I feel a true thing, that is: "Letting go of everything is having everything". If we have one heart to propagate the Dharma to save birth, we must know how to put the Three Jewels and sentient beings first. We have to do it with a sincere mind that is not self-centered and self-seeking, in order to see the miraculous blessing of the Buddhas. And if we abuse the Buddhadharma, abuse the money of the faithful, we will be covered with feathers and horns to pay our debt for eternity. In addition to not being able to abuse the public's money, we also have to put in our efforts to distribute scriptures, pack boxes, carry them, etc. to send them around to temples and Buddhists. In addition, we also have to prepare mentally to endure all the compliments and criticisms of people. Why? Because where there is Buddha, there are ghosts; where there is right, there is evil. Even if we do our best, people will criticize and criticize us. But rest assured, as long as the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas understand us, that's enough. As for the praise and blame or blame of the world, we should not be concerned because it is a normal thing for people in this world of Tathagata full of the five evils. If it's a normal thing, we shouldn't let them disturb our body and mind. Wanting to do Buddha work in this Dharma-ending age, then we must be full of wisdom, patience, courage, and sacrifice. If one of these four things is missing, then we will not be able to achieve the path of teaching and protecting the Dharma.
