BUDDHA'S THE OVERVIEW OF THE EIGHT PERSONALITY (last part). We continue to watch the second half of the seventh enlightenment: "Frequently reciting the three robes, the eight Dharma tools, the aspiration to leave home, the purity of the path, the exalted sanctity, the necessary compassion". The old Venerable used to teach us: "Not afraid of mindfulness, only afraid of slow enlightenment". Already a commoner, many kalpas of reincarnation in the six paths, without starting a mind, without moving thoughts is definitely impossible. It is really possible to do without starting a mind, without moving thoughts, only in the realm of Arahant or higher, or in other words, only the saints are in the four holy dharma world, that is not ordinary people. For ordinary people, mindfulness of arising is a normal phenomenon, but this idea is very scary, it is definitely a lot of bad thoughts, little good thoughts, that's for sure. So the Bodhisattva teaches us to be enlightened, "not afraid of the arising of thoughts, only afraid of slow enlightenment." especially for evil thoughts. If you are just enlightened, this evil thought will stop immediately, and the good will will arise. Constantly abide in good thoughts and should be close to good people. Constantly living with good people will unknowingly practice for a long time to become the temperament of good people, we call it a change of temperament. There is one most important method without equal to changing temperament is to be close to good knowledge. Buddha is the first good and knowledgeable person in the world or out of the world. The Buddha in this place taught us "often to recite the three robes and the eight Dharma tools". The Buddha's clothes only have three sets, so it's called the three robes. Apart from the three y, there is only one bowl to eat rice, today we call it rice bowl. These bowls are usually crockery bowls, which we now call ceramics. Another type is the iron bowl. The eight righteous dharmas in the Buddhadharma are these two types, one is an iron bowl and the other is a crock pot. "Magic weapon" is personal props. This is the World Honored One appearing in our world, the situation of his daily life, all his possessions are just like that, so the mundane or worldly dharma everything is let go. The Buddha taught us after doing it, not just saying but not doing, he really did speak after doing it. Not only is it difficult for us today to learn sages, but it's also not easy to learn sages. But the sages are the goal that we are always aiming for, we must definitely try our best to learn from them, to learn exactly like them. "The will to leave home", this is to say to a person who really understands the truth of the universe and life, they will definitely make a vow. What vow? Vow to leave home. Going forth here is definitely not just our secular family, Leaving the worldly family is not true renunciation. What does "Gia" mean? In Buddhism, it is said to be the home of birth and death. If you can escape samsara, you are a true monastic. You can come out of afflictions, afflictions are home, five warms are home, this is important, but the worldly family is not important. In Buddhism, there are monastic monastics and monastic monastics. If you leave home at home, your body will stay home but your mind will leave home. It is the same as before, as said before, this person has left home. When Buddha Da was still in the world, layman Duy Ma was a Buddha, he was a lay Buddha. Shakyamuni Buddha appeared as a monastic Buddha. If it is said that truly ordained, then layman Vimalakirti is also a monastic, he came out of the house of birth and death, out of the house of the three realms, out of the five-war house, completely no different from Buddha Shakyamuni, The difference is in the form. He appeared to be ordained at home, and Buddha Shakyamuni appeared to be ordained, the difference is this. As for "pure direction, high sanctity, necessary compassion", the World Honored One and the layman Vimalakirti have absolutely nothing else. This point we must definitely understand, must know well. The monastic should not be proud, thinking that wearing this monastic suit is superior to anyone else, often fall to the hell of Abhi. Why so? High tribute is conceited to destroy the image of the Buddha Dharma! The Buddhadharma is compassion for all, the Buddhadharma is humility and reverence, how can there be a bodhisattva with a high tribute? There is no such morality. You destroy the image of the Buddha Dharma, then of course you have to take responsibility for cause and effect, you have to receive the retribution. As such, at home there is no need to say anymore. At home, put on this shirt, If the tribute is high and conceited, the sin is more serious than the high tribute. So, in the Dharma-ending period, the breaking of precepts, the making of mistakes, why are there so many and so common? Indeed, it is because of neglecting the precepts, the fault of not reading the sutras. If we take the precepts without learning or thinking about it, what can we do? Not only can't do, even think can't think. Therefore, bhikkhus in the end of the world are all guilty. The Sutra of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva says very well: "The sentient beings of Jambudvipa start to think that nothing is without sin." This statement is true, not a lie. These things are right in front of our eyes, as long as we calmly observe, they are very clear, very transparent. Today we read this verse: "aspiration to leave home", we must know that to get out of the house of birth and death, out of the house of afflictions, out of the Three Realms. Of course, in the secular world, even if it is at home, there is no attachment in the pure heart, this is truly the aspiration to leave home. "The Way of the Way": this word, we should use a circle to mark it for memory. What is Dao? The Way is the teaching of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the way of the precepts of concentration, wisdom, the three blessings, the six harmony, the three learnings, the six lands, the ten vows of Universal Virtue. This is the great path of the Buddha and Bodhisattva, which must be followed. Cultivating the Way is to cultivate a pure mind, a sincere mind, an egalitarian mind, a righteous mind, and a compassionate mind. "Sanskrit" means purity. Happiness is behavior. Pure body and mind, this is what the world calls a great person, called a great person. Great compassion for all sentient beings, giving equal compassion, helping all suffering beings equally. Among suffering beings, the most suffering is delusion and unconsciousness. So helping sentient beings break the delusion of enlightenment, leave suffering and be happy, this is true compassion. 4.9 The octagonal knowledge Please see the last paragraph: "The eighth enlightenment, birth and death are natural, suffering is immeasurable, suffering is immeasurable, developing the mind of the great vehicle, universally necessary, vowing to all sentient beings, eternal life, immeasurable suffering, command the assembly of the assembly. birth, all wings of great bliss". "Natural birth and death." “Of course” is an example, like a great fire burning extremely powerfully. This phenomenon, during the eclipse, we see a sea of fire of the sun, "Sure" from this place will give us a very deep impression. "Saint and death" is the appearance of beings in the six paths. This form is extremely painful. Sentient beings, after falling into the six paths, are very difficult to escape from the six paths. In the Six Paths, birth and death, birth and death never rest, so in the Buddhist scriptures it says "birth and death through labor". Seeing this in the eyes of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas is incomparably pitiful. In samsara, then surely the time in the three evil paths is long, and the time in the three good paths is short. Beings in the six paths, we can say the three evil paths are their home, their homeland, the three good paths are for going out to rest, travel, and visit, the time is extremely short. Why is this phenomenon happening? Let's observe from above karma, cause and effect, we will understand immediately. Don't think about others, try to think about yourself. Today, from morning to evening, when we start thinking about good or bad, we immediately understand. If you think about evil a lot, if you think about evil, you will attract the heart of the three hells, if you think about good, you will attract blessings to heaven and people. We do more evil, less good, then the result is of course a long time in the three maps, time in heaven is short. There is also the most obvious test method is that ordinary people often dream, do you think every day and night you dream, is it a lot of nightmares or a lot of good dreams? From this place, you will know very clearly your samsaric status in the six paths. My own experience, when I didn't study Buddhism, I would have nightmares every day, after studying Buddhism, for the first ten years, I still often had nightmares, until I completely stopped seeing nightmares, I To be honest with you, roughly ten years ago. I studied Buddhism for 50 years, or in other words, after three or forty years of practice, I no longer had nightmares. During these decades, he often read the scriptures, studied the teachings, preached the scriptures, advised himself, and advised others. I was on the podium often telling fellow initiates, I preach the sutras purely to advise myself, being my most honest audience, not missing a session. The person most used is yourself. After a long time, years and months, involuntarily in the mind has changed. This is the "long-term training" that the ancients said. Not intentionally to change the realm, but to change naturally. Moreover, this transformation, at first, was extremely slow, and it was not easy, one must be persistent, must believe in the Buddha's teachings, must remember the teacher's instructions, definitely should not be disgruntled, deceive yourself, deceive people. If you deceive yourself by yourself, then you will deceive the teacher, deceive the bodhisattva, then surely there will be no achievement. You have already been eliminated in the Buddhadharma, you continue to do the trilogy of the six paths. Only faithfulness, reverence, Hard work, eager to learn will naturally change realms. When moving to a certain merit, the speed will be fast. So at the end of the normal people we say speed up. Why so? Sincere heart. What we say is sincere, pure, equality, right enlightenment, and compassion has indeed been achieved, really compatible, then at this time the speed of cultivation to change realms is not the normal speed anymore, really speed up. In this situation, [people] often follow me by my side, but they can only detect it by using righteous efforts. In recent years, especially the last ten years, you have heard the sutras that I preached in the last ten years, each year is different, every month is different. If you look closely, you can see that every week is not the same. Consistent with virtue, ending birth and death, The real rebirth request is somewhat certain. So this world has let go, the world body and mind let go of everything. There is one thing that can't be let go, but it's impossible for you to want to be reborn, you still can't take rebirth with you, without this principle. When you have completely let go, then you will be reborn in the Western world of Ultimate Bliss, only then will you have some certainty, you will have faith. Definitely don't create evil karma, definitely don't offend anyone, definitely don't do anything unwholesome, need to keep your mind pure, your conduct pure, show a good appearance and image. for the masses in society to see. This image is the image of Buddha and Bodhisattva, definitely should not appear the image of the three paths of the six paths. You do the opposite of the Buddhadharma, study the Buddha, take refuge in the Buddha's door, or pretend to be ordained, wearing a kashāya, but dare to violate the image of Buddhism, who is this? That's ghost. When the World-Honored One was still in the world, Demon King Three Weeks made a vow to destroy the Buddhadharma. Buddha said: "The great Dharma of the Buddhas is emanating from the self-nature, without any force that can destroy it". Three Weeks said: "Waiting for your Dharma end, when your Dharma luck is weak, I will tell all of my monks and nuns to leave home, wear kashāya robes, to come and destroy your Buddhadharma." When Shakyamuni Buddha heard this, he didn't say another word, and burst into tears. Can ghosts destroy Buddhism? Ghosts cannot destroy. Ma can destroy is to destroy the image of Buddhism, destroy the opportunity to hear the Dharma and be saved by all sentient beings. So the devil condemns, not to the Buddha, but to all sentient beings. Although demons are happy for a while, they can destroy the Buddhadharma. This will certainly lead to the Api hell for countless eons after countless eons, that suffering is only for them. The image of Shakyamuni Buddha was destroyed, destroyed, no problem, the fifth Buddha, Bodhisattva Maitreya, was born again. In a good life, thousands of Buddhas were born. Buddha Shakyamuni is the fourth, followed by the fifth, after that there are more than 900 Buddhas, what power does the ghost have that can destroy the Buddhadharma? It's impossible to do, it's really rude. General protector of the thousand Buddhas, I often say that the commander-in-chief of the Dharma protectors of a thousand Buddhas is the Bodhisattva Vi Da. Thien Mu Mountain has recovered, I revere it. Honor it what is it? It is the headquarters of the thousand Buddhas, not for me. Am I going to Thien Mu mountain? Is impossible. We agree to help Bodhisattva Vida is to agree to help and support the birth of thousands of Buddhas, wide-ranging sentient beings, the meaning is in this place. The Buddhadharma covers the entire space of the Dharma Realm, not in one place. Wherever we are, we can practice in accordance with the law, and in any place we can make the Buddha Dharma more radiant and beneficial for all sentient beings living in this place. That's why Buddhism often says "dependent birth". Where there are conditions, the Buddha and Bodhisattva immediately appear there to teach sentient beings. But fate is not eternal, it has birth and death. So the wise, the enlightened, they know the predestination, they seize the opportunity. Sometimes the chance in this place is only a few very short days, but even a few days have to be grasped. A few years, a few years also have to embrace. Why so? This opportunity that is hard to come by for thousands of years, cannot be missed, is your chance to accumulate merit. If you're easy to ignore, or in other words, the chance that you want to accumulate merit has already been lost. This, without true wisdom, cannot be seen, nor can you grasp. In the past, when the mainland had just opened, Cuu Hoa Son invited the shaman Thanh Nhat to lecture on the sutras. Mainland China opened the door, the first person to come to lecture was the shaman Thanh Nhat. The Most Holy Magician came to visit me, I said this opportunity is rare, you must go. Many magicians in Hong Kong advised him not to go. I said, “You go. This is a very rare opportunity.” He then listened to me so he went, seizing the opportunity. We are teaching sutras in this part of Japan today, although the time is only 12 hours, will this opportunity still exist in the future? Very difficult to say. Buddhists cannot fail to know this principle, cannot fail to know these truths. Fate is like lightning, just flashed and disappeared. If you grasp that, your merit will be immeasurable. So we see "birth and death are natural, suffering is immeasurable", this is the truth of beings in the six paths. Here is the Buddha's advice to us to "develop the mind of the great vehicle, universally necessary". This is a Mahayana Bodhisattva, generating the bodhisattva mind, making a bodhisattva vow. Universal is to use an equal mind, a pure mind, a sincere mind to help all sentient beings, to help all sentient beings is to truly help oneself. Sutras: "May all sentient beings live with immeasurable suffering, command all sentient beings to attain great bliss". When Bodhisattvas enter the world, they appear in the world only to create an image of sacrifice and dedication, self-sacrificing for people, being able to endure all harms caused by nature and humans, and teaching sentient beings. If we look from above the great sutras, the Buddhas Tathagatas, the Dharma-body Bodhisattvas, we would not discuss, Just looking at the ten dharma realms, these great Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas, it is true that they have already cut off their afflictive views, and their afflictions are about to end, [they] ] displayed in the six paths still have to show the precepts, still have to show up keeping the order. People have reached the realm of reason, no fear, why do they still have to compare these little details? There is nothing else to teach the beginner, to teach the deluded beings, to model for them, just like performing on the stage. Performing on stage is very serious, very hard, the performance is like the real thing. For whom? For the viewers. The Tathagata Buddhas come to this world to manifest and perform for the sake of sentient beings. Performing must endure so much suffering, completely unsatisfactory. All these things are not for the sake of teaching sentient beings. This is necessarily compassion, this is suffering on behalf of sentient beings. Why did the World-Honored One in the past, present in the world, must have lived a life of three robes and a bowl, sleeping under a tree at night, and eating one meal a day? Why can't life just be a little better? Let's take a look at the great and venerable patriarchs in history, the most recent, our most recent way such as Master An Quang, old monk Huu Van, shaman Xu Chau, we all know these people. Lay people such as Ha Lien Cu, Mai Quang Hi, Giang Vi Nong, Chau Chi An, in Taiwan we personally saw the old layman Ly Binh Nam, it is not impossible to experience a slightly better life, they themselves have work, have income, but live the most miserable life, if they can save, save a dime, A dime is also good, save it to help the Buddha Dharma and help all suffering beings. I lived with Mr. Ly for ten years, but I don't know his real life situation. After the teacher passed away, built a memorial house for him, we went to visit the memorial house to understand clearly, the shirt he wore inside was patched and patched, the socks were also patched. Master patched himself. The clothes we know, the teacher's outer shirt, a garment sewn in the style of Trung Son worn for three or forty years, I know this one, but the inside I don't know. Students offer clothes to the teacher, as soon as they pass the teacher's hand, they will give it to others, make offerings to others, do not use it themselves. The life I know, I lived with him, he lived two dong a day, at that time the Taiwan dollar was two dong. This is 40 years ago I lived with you. At that time, the US dollar was roughly the ratio of 1 to 40, or in other words, the cost of living for a month of Mr. Ly, if calculated in US dollars, it was roughly more than one dong. The teacher's income is very good, all of them go to charity. Truly is a cult. We saw it with our own eyes, no doubt. When he taught us, he himself really did it. If you can't do it yourself, you don't dare to teach others, fearing that people will ask you if you say it's so good that you can do it? That shyness, how do you answer people? If you can do it, you can do it yourself, then you can teach sentient beings. If you can truly uphold the precepts by yourself, can really have a pure heart, then you will be able to move others, make people see, hear, then be in awe. The so-called submissive mind. To help sentient beings "all the way to great bliss", in the Dharma-ending period, there is only one method that is to advise people to recite the Buddha's name to seek rebirth in the Pure Land. Reciting Buddha's name to seek rebirth in the Pure Land is not at all easy. [This method] is very good, it is an easy method to practice, among 84,000 methods, it is the easiest, the simplest, the easiest. But in reality, it's not as easy as you think. Why so? Tomorrow here we have to do the Three Times of Mindfulness, in the Three Times of the Mindfulness of the Buddhas, the words of Zen master Trung Phong said very well that the mind must be similar to the mind of Amitabha Buddha. What is the mind of Amitabha Buddha? Sincerity, purity, equality, right enlightenment, compassion. Is your mind this mind or not? The vow must be similar to the vow of Amitabha Buddha, the 48 vows in the Infinite Life Sutra have you fulfilled any vows? Hanh is similar to Amitabha Buddha. That is the mind and vows applied in life, applied in dealing with people. Such a person I have said before, you only need to recite one sentence of Amitabha Buddha in one lifetime and you will be reborn. If your mind, vows, and actions are not compatible with Amitabha Buddha, then you can recite 20,000 Buddhist words a day, which is also "Screaming in the throat is useless". This reason must be explained clearly and transparently. Advise all sentient beings that we must do it ourselves, so that we do not deceive others. I myself only know how to say but do not know how to do it, that is you fooling people, people will not believe. You deceive people that you destroy the image of the Buddha Dharma, this is a sure principle. 4.10 Text of the last paragraph Please see the last paragraph of the text: "As a test of the eight things, the great Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are enlightened". This statement is very important. Above these eight things that the World-Honored One has said are eight things that all the Buddhas, Tathagatas and Bodhisattvas in the ten directions and three generations have enlightened. Although we are ordinary people, but we have the conditions to touch, hear, and see, we should learn from Buddha and Bodhisattva, and we must have the same enlightenment. Let's try to think in front of the Buddha telling us eight things. The first thing is to clearly tell us the truth of the human universe, affirming ordinary people's "evil mind, evil body, and crime". Or in other words, just like in the penitential verse, it is said that ordinary people in the six paths "have created many evil karmas in the past". The old Venerable said, if these sins have the appearance, the form becomes smaller, like the dust, then the guilt has been created for eternity in this past life. This statement is the truth, it is completely unstated. Where does sin come from? From the heart. This mind is the delusion, the thought, born from here. This body of ours is a tool to create a pitiful creation, "Violence of the pipe", we must clearly understand, this is the leading factor of samsara incessantly in the six paths of reincarnation. Where did hope come from? Born out of desire, born out of many desires, so the second and third things Buddha taught us to "minimize desire and unconditioned, free body and mind", this is living the life of the Buddhas and Bodhisattas. slap. "Multiple requests" is indeed poor growth, so the Buddha taught us to be content, to live in poverty, to go astray, to know how to seek wisdom. Speaking of this, it makes me think that I was close to Master Ly in the past, and he spent his whole life at the lowest level. Your students have tens of thousands of people, do your students care about you? The students were very attentive, but the teacher did not accept it, still living the poor and pure life of the teacher. There is a very deep moral here, the teacher is an example and a model for the later learners to see. I realized what the teacher meant, so I followed him. I studied for eight months, I just presented it to the teacher. First, I started from living, eating one meal a day. The teacher asked me: "You have eaten for eight months, do you feel any health difference compared to before?". [I said" “I feel nothing else, very normal.” He hit the table once, doing that forever, never asking for other people in his life. What is the true nutrition of life?Every person is different.Nutrition is the supplement of energy, Everyone's body is not the same. Just like now you see cars on the road, there are gas-saving ones, there are fuel-efficient ones, not the same. The fuel-consuming car that you add to the lack of energy will not run, the gas-saving car, with just a little energy, it can last a long time. We must understand this principle. Energy consumption, over 95% is consumed in delusion. People who have a lot of thoughts, people with a lot of desire, people with a lot of desires, they need to add a lot of energy. The mind is pure, there is no desire, no desire, the mind is pure, they consume very little energy, so eating a little bit can be maintained, will be very normal, they live a normal life. very happy, very happy. This cannot be explained by ordinary people. Hard work, labor consumes very limited energy. Hope is terrible, From morning to night, day and night without interruption, especially for personal interests, harming others and taking advantage of themselves, this thought consumes the most energy. Understanding this principle, in the Buddhist scriptures that teach us "to be content, to live in poverty, to stray from the path", only then can you truly feel it, only then will you truly be able to turn towards, really want to learn and follow. bring great benefits to yourself. The fourth article in the sutra teaches us to "treat debauchery," which is a very serious warning. The Buddha advises us to be diligent, to cut off afflictions, to subdue demonic obstacles. Surrendering evil means definitely not being deceived by the five senses of the outer world. [The fifth thing is] advises us to study extensively, to achieve wisdom and eloquence, to develop the mind to teach sentient beings, and to practice the Bodhisattva path. The sixth teaches us to be “poor and angry”. We affirm that the Buddha said the meaning of this sentence, focusing on ethics, morality, and wisdom. "Poverty" is not entirely about material use, but rather focusing on the spirit of enlightenment. Not being enlightened is the real suffering. So Buddha showed us, we can meet. Buddha Shakyamuni in the past was still in the world, three robes and a bowl, sleeping under a tree at night, eating one meal a day. He lived a poorer material life than Nhan Hoi - a student of Confucius. Poor Nhan Hoi also had a cottage, Buddha Shakyamuni didn't even have a cottage. He slept under a tree at night. From there, it shows that the "poverty and many resentments" that the Buddha said is not only the material life, but only the spiritual life. Even if the material life is miserable, but the spiritual life is happy, there is nothing in the material world that is suffering. Worldly people consider suffering, that is the standard of worldly people, that is not the standard of enlightened people. The standards of the enlightened are not the same as ours. The standard of the enlightened person is "minimum of unconditioned desires, free of body and mind", in which there is genuine joy. They see that people in the world have houses, fields, and children, and they think that this is a shackle, this is trouble, this is suffering. We worldly people are in suffering without knowing this is suffering. Yesterday I saw that there was a picture of Tinh The Map outside, that picture of Tinh The Map had a lot of meaning. This painting is in the guest house of Khai Nguyen Dai Nam pagoda. I went to that place to visit in the past, saw this painting in the guest house, I used my camera to take a picture of it, this is a photo taken to print an enlarged image. This original painting is at Khai Nguyen Pagoda. Speaking of which, it's been more than 30 years. More than 30 years ago I took this picture, it is worth everyone's feeling and enlightenment. In the eyes of the Buddha and Bodhisattva see this situation, this is suffering, this is not joy. Therefore, the Buddha taught people to "aspire to leave home", "not to be infected with the world". Worldly pleasures are the source of suffering. What makes the world happy? Buddha said that happiness is the destruction of suffering. Because it can't last forever, when happiness happens to change, your suffering will come right away. That's why Buddha said that there is suffering in the world, there is suffering in the end, there is suffering in practice. The three worlds are suffering, not happy! Why is there suffering? You are poor. You are poor in morality, poor in morality, poor in wisdom, that's why you suffer. Buddha taught us to "practice giving". If you give alms, your talent will not be lacking. Shakyamuni Buddha shows us that he has nothing, but every day he eats food and the necessities he does not lack. Why not lack it? Because every day he practiced giving alms, giving dharma, giving fearless. If Shakyamuni Buddha doesn't even have a penny, what's the point of practicing giving? Is the practice of almsgiving internally. The inner talent is this body. The body makes a good example for all sentient beings, this is giving. Speaking for the sake of all sentient beings, this is giving. Mindfulness in every thought wants to help sentient beings break the delusion and become enlightened, leave suffering and be happy. His three karmas of body, speech, and mind are all giving, this is the gift of internal wealth. Having merit, this is not a blessing. he had nothing, but every day his food and necessities he did not lack. Why not lack it?
