The Way to Win Themselves.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.
Buddhists have heard the teachings a lot, but there are ways we cannot win. Everyone who wants to become Buddha, we can sit here and listen to the Buddha Dharma, and have great affinity with Buddha, giving in the past, making offerings, making good deeds. But once you have not won, you still go in the six paths of samsara. That is obvious. France as the market.
Everyone has Buddha nature, but there are 3 forms:
1. Chief of Buddhahood: All beings have Buddha nature.
2. Causal Buddhahood: There are causes but no conditions to transform, beings are still beings.
3. Willow Buddhahood Tanh: Everyone wants to reduce negativity and anger, but when defilements come, they still cannot win because they practice too much and too much air. For example, there are 2 canoes. One turned on the phone and went straight to the other side. A car that can't run forever will only run around. The cause is moss, grass stuck to the bottom. The wise know, then slowly remove.
On the way to enlightenment, everyone has different situations. There are people who seem to be the strongest who can win everything but still cannot win against themselves. So, the topic today we share is "The road to win against ourselves".
The path of self-conquering is the path of inner transformation, from mortal to holy, from evil to good, virtuous person. In order to step into the path of self-conquering, we must experience and transform ourselves internally.
Sr. Trúc Trúc was the king, twice defeated Yuan Mong army, but shook up all the monks. After the Buddha's enlightenment and pure knowledge, he performed the article "Dac wild forest into a song":
“This week I thought
I am off again
Caution curved (in) the heart
Own laugh, huh.
Attention is not important
Riches don't care
Ancient Han Qin
See low momentum (cowardly).
There is a moment we overcome ourselves, our joy is great. Thanks to such transformation, learning new Dharma is not in vain.
The Zen master Bach An also asserted: A person in a house, a car, a boat driver, but after realizing this mind, we also call him rich, wise and noble. There is a person whether a king, an official, a great minister or a title but does not recognize that place, unable to live with his free mind, we also say that he is a poor, ignorant person ".
So sometimes we hear the dharma is boring, but actually, if the Dharma is cultivated correctly, it is the ultimate dharma, the miraculous dharma, which has a great transformation power, changing the whole life. Buddhism is not a superstition, as some people think it is a religion to save people, suffering for sentient beings.
The path of conquering oneself is another way of liberating one's own knowledge. In Zen, it is said that in the Song Dynasty, there was a general of the country who fought hundreds of battles. One day he was in the palace, and a servant brought a cup of tea made of precious jewels, which he treasured. When he drank tea, he accidentally dropped the cup, he took a panic. He thought of the battle without fear, but today the mind is frightened, from the craving for the cup. Thinking so, he broke the cup of tea always.
In the Dhammapada, the Buddha teaches:
“Although at the battlefield
Win thousands of enemy troops
Win yourself better
It is the ultimate victory. ”
In the A Hamlet recounted the story: In the Buddha's time there was a farmer, in the garden there was a hoe. After he saw the pure monks also came into renunciation but then became a monk seven times. Because he had ordained for a while, he remembered the garden and the hoe so he went home to work. The last time, he took his hoe and threw him into the river and shouted "I have won, I have won".
There are times when we also want to let go of everything to embark on this path, but due to our practice of qi, we have not let go of everything. To win this qi, we have to meditate. Only the path of meditation can overcome oneself. Sit still, we see each idea of delusion, for example today what we did to make others suffer, we must make a great vow to neutralize this career.
The Buddha will be daa - the path of self-victory
The first battle of Bodhisattva Siddhartha : The effort in his mind while still in the palace.
The prince is in the palace for 3 seasons, his wife is beautiful and his children are good. On the night the Prince decided to become a renunciate, it was not natural that He went, but at that time there were 100 dharmas. When coming out of the city, Ma Ba Week appeared and said, "Hey Si Dat Da, you have only 7 days left to turn into the Holy King Emperor." If the Bodhisattva Siddhartha does not have all the three perfections, he will be attached to the words of Ma Ba Week.
Thus, we practice to meet the 100 paramitas, the ultimate attainment, which has to go through countless lifetimes, thanks to the Pratyekabuddha Buddha Nature.
Knowing this path, each of us must devote great energy, in every way, to conquer ourselves.
Ancient Germany said:
“A lifetime does not last forever
A life without enlightenment sorrow ”.
The second battle of the Bodhisattva Siddhartha: Material hardship and loneliness
A prince full of all that put all into deep forests, deprived both physically and mentally.
The third battle: when praying with the two sages, after witnessing first meditation and the four emptiness, the two fervently took Bodhisattva Siddhartha to replace their leadership positions. But for him, the enlightened truth of enlightenment has not been found yet, still on the wing of how to end being born, old, sick, dead, so he let go of everything.
In life too, once we have not reached the final goal, we must dismiss all temptations, let go of the negativity.
Fourth battle: Six years of asceticism and being abandoned by 5 brothers Kieu Tran Nhu.
Fifth battle: the decisive battle of a great soldier, the supreme being among mankind.
Maou appears to be the father of Tinh Phan, her Da da da la: this is a ghost from our own heart. There are people who enter into spiritual practice for a period of time and naturally remember their father, mother, wife, children, sometimes sick.
Three ghosts typical of craving, jealousy, selfishness: This is a very difficult battle. I studied Buddhism, knew that I had to be happy but couldn't do it. Reason is easy to say that it cannot be done because our karma has not been resolved yet. So, there is still craving, jealousy, selfishness, seeing others being happy and happy sometimes when they cannot bear it, there is a thought in oneself that only we understand ourselves.
Through these 5 battles, the Buddha asserts: I am the one who conquers himself.
In Zen Meditation, it says:
A buffalo passed through the window, the head was broken, the horn was broken, the body was covered but the tail had not yet passed. That tail is typical of the attachment to the dharma that we cultivate. That is also the subtlety that we have not yet overcome ourselves.
If negativity does not recognize then we are still attached, neutralize is not.
Also in Zen, it is said that the first person bought a piece of land from the second person, dug up and found a gold jar, then gave it to the second person and said: “I bought the land, not gold, now I can dig a gold jar. should pay for him. " The other said, "I sold your land to you, so the gold in that land is yours too."
The next day, the first person thought: I bought the land, the gold in the land is also mine. The second person thought again: I only sell the land, but the gold in it is still mine. Therefore, the two sides quarreled.
In just one night, if you can not overcome yourself, can not resolve these thoughts will be born. So everyone who wants to become a Buddha, be a Patriarch, be a virtuous person, but it will be different when they encounter conditions.
In the Lineage of Zen, the Zen Master, the Zen Master, ... .. Shallow Khe Tung teaches them: "Every human being does evil, there is visible and invisible evil. The invisible evil is the harm to the people and the visible evil is the murder. The murder of evil is small and the evil of harming people is great. The reason for the banquet is the poison of the bird, in the jokes that hide the species of knives, in the deep house, there are tigers, in the alleyway, there are enemy antics. If it is not a sage itself, it will not be eradicated when it is still not strong, not preventable by ceremony, dharma, and the time when the harm is not to be expected. ”
The invisible evil is in mind, others don't know it. Just move a bad concept, we must evil transformation, not let this concept arise and exist. It is at that moment, knowing that it is sweet but dangerous to liberate , is the path of separation. Thus, we are always contemplating in daily life. I find it is better for the laity to use the shop than to use thread. Because we are always upside down in the busy so we have to use the reflection, the Prajna wisdom will arise. If the wisdom of Uncivil arises, you look directly at life, the center of enlightenment will end suffering. That is the way to overcome yourself.
Abroad now many people practice meditation, because they see this is the way of liberation, not dependent on any god or god but on their own. This is the way to help them overcome the desire, passion, living enough, life is no longer miserable.
In the Dhammapada, the Buddha teaches:
“Fun for you when you need it
Glad you know enough
Happy instead of virtuous death
Fun rather miserable end ".
In the Samyutta, one day the King of Concubine after winning the battle to pay homage to Buddha. Buddha said: "Hey King, in 4 directions there are 4 big mountains, going nowhere to crush there. Can the King can bring all the soldiers out? ”
The King of Anonymous said no.
Buddha said four mountains for example to be born, old, sick, dead. Only the path of meditation, engaging in one's own enlightened mind, liberates birth, old age, sickness and death.
Buddha said the verse:
“Better win yourself
Than win other people
Smart people subdue themselves
Often live in self-control. "
In life, there are times when we are angry, afflicted, say evil words, sometimes come to repent with others, but the hurt is still tormented him (like a nailer on a tree) , after removing the nail, the scar on the tree remains). Knowing that, we must reduce our anger. When reciting, we know this is the nature of suffering, a dangerous path to suffering that will let go.
In Kinh A Ham, Venerable Rahula, on the way to beg for alms, was teased by a group of young people, who immediately started to get angry, wanted to be king to later punish these people. Buddha saw that mind, so only Rahula was able to master himself. Buddha took Rahula to a tree and took a deep breath, exhaling it lightly to see the impermanent nature of each breath. Right there, Venerable La Mosta saw the results of Tu Da.
As such, we must also have a method of owning ourselves to practice and transform.
In the Tang dynasty, there was a very talented vizier, Quach Tu Nghi, who respected the Triple Gem, understood Buddhism deeply. One day he came to the Zen master and asked, "Venerable White, heard that there is the word conceit in the Buddhist house, so what does it mean to be conceited?"
The Zen master looked at his face and said, "Idiot, what did you ask?"
At this moment, the prime minister blushed. The Zen master said, "It is conceit."
Through this story, we see that the path of practice to inner transformation is not one day, two days or one month, three months.
In the Shurangama Sutra: "If animals are often transformed, they are synonymous with Tathagata". Right in the moment of reality, every thought arises to see but not abide throughout, along with Tathagata.
Zen master Khe Phong Tong Mat said:
“There are 3 levels of study:
Junior, whoever says anything gets angry, runs after him, he is attached.
Middle school, also have the pitch but know how to transform, know how to stop. (It is a religious person like us).
Superior for real legal ceiling, typical for the Bodhisattva, A la Han.
In Zen Meditation, Zen Master Mang An declares them: "If the practitioner wants to quickly realize the truth, free from all afflictions, nothing is more than focusing on the contemplation of mind in every action".
What are you doing, reflect deeply on your actions, words and behaviors to resolve.
Ancient virtues taught that: "Great wisdom needs to penetrate into the miraculous place of the mysticism from the chaos and turbulence of the mundane world.
Tam To Tang Xan taught: “If you want the straightest path, don't ignore the ceiling. Conversely, if intentionally fled the ceiling , the practitioner will fall into a delusion, arise and accept the original departure. If enlightened to the true nature of all things, realizing that defilement is Bodhi, delusion is liberation, all worldly things are the manifesting manifestations of the nature, the practitioner will penetrate into the realm. unmoving, impure, attaining peace and liberation ”.
In the A-Ham Sutta, the Buddha after 49 days and nights conquered himself, realizing the ultimate truth, had the scholar Udumbara ask:
"This Sage fake Cu Đàm, the pure bar, the magic shape, bright face. The pseudo-gentleman, Cu Dam, who is the guru, who studies the religion, and trusts whose dharma?
At this time, the Buddha said the verse:
“I am supreme for victory
Pre-infection infected except
Liberation end eradication
Self-discipline not guru.
Unequal great hero
Self-awareness
Tathagata teacher heaven people
Turn tri into a bliss. "
"Self-discipline without guru" is the guru. Venerable, the teachers have taught only half the way, while the other half of the road, you have to go, you have to win. So "enlightenment and enlightenment to the Buddha" is the "enlightenment" Buddha, and "enlightenment to the Buddha's knowledge" is your job.
At this moment, Mr. Uu Da asked, "Does Cu Dam claim to have won everything?"
The Buddha added a verse:
“Press victory like that
The contraband has eradicated
We kill evil
So I won. "
We are not yet a Buddha but we are walking on Buddha's path. For 24 hours, it is bad for an hour, and at some point we come to enlightenment.
To summarize, let me tell a story. At the time of Emperor Meiji, at the foot of Mount Fuji there was a very good martial artist, training talented martial artists. King Minh Tri heard that and sent there two princes. After three years, the king brought two princes to perform in front of a martial arts official. The two princes are smart and talented so they learn martial arts and gain achievements. The first prince performed by sitting still, there were 20 boxers coming in, the prince shouted for an hour, the other 20 boxers drooped his arms and legs, fell down. Everyone was surprised. When the second prince performs, the sword means the mind, and the mind means the sword. But the martial artist affirmed that this was only the second path, and the third path, the two princes, no matter how smart, could not learn, even the martial artist himself. The king asked why,
Some time later, the teacher who was taught by the guru called to the mountain to continue studying the third path. Everyone is eagerly waiting. Ten years later, the master went down the mountain. The king and two princes came to him and asked: What is the third road?
The monk removed his hat, revealed the appearance of a renunciate, saying: "It is the way to overcome myself." END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.23/10/2019.
