Why is the spring in Buddhism called Spring Maitreya?

 Spring Maitreya is a fairly familiar concept in Buddhism but few understand the beautiful high meaning contained in those beautiful words.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year every year, we and our families, often go to the temple, pay homage to the Buddha, pray for prayer, the Buddhas of the ten directions, lobe from the household, peaceful houses, happy family, At the same time, we also send to each other the wishes of a good and wonderful year, but not everyone understands why it is called Xuan Di Ma.
 

Why is it called Maitreya Spring?

Spring in Buddhism is called the Spring of Maitreya because the Patriarch chooses the beginning of the new year (on the first day of the Lunar New Year) as the day when Maitreya and Buddhists mean "Spring Festival", "Spring of Hope" , or "Spring Happiness". 

The New Year's Eve celebrates the New Spring and also celebrates the birth of Maitreya Buddha. (According to the late HT.Thich Thien Sieu - Phap Tho Dau Xuan). 

On the other hand, the Maitreya is the future Buddha symbolizing happiness, joy, joyfulness, tolerance and forgiveness. This is also the wish of the early Spring of the Buddha, praying and wishing for a happy, happy spring. 

Therefore, the Buddha who celebrates spring, in addition to the usual happy new year, also means to celebrate the birth of Buddha Maitreya and to strive to study and transform himself to rejoice, joy, forgive and cover. like Him,

We often recite: Nam Mo Tu Lai descends on Maitreya Buddha. That is, according to Buddhist scriptures, Bo-slapped Maitreya will become a Buddha in the future. Thus, the ceremony of the venerable Bo-slapped Di-lilac on the first day of the year, for everyone, means the hope of ten thousand auspiciousness, everything in the new year.


 

 

Meaning of Spring of Maitreya

The image of the Maitreya, in fact, he is the Bodhisattva Most born in the country currently residing in the interior of the Palace of Heaven. 

He is a contemporary Buddha, naturally full of 32 good generals and 80 beauty like other Buddhas. 

The Maitreya Buddha that we are worshiping with a big belly, a smiling mouth and a big bag is imitating an incarnation of Maitreya as Great Venerable Master (the great monk carrying a big bag) in China. . 

At the time of birth, no one knew He was the reincarnation of Maitreya Buddha. Everyone knows only one great Grand Master, who is dressed in a mediocre manner, hands carrying a large cloth bag, always smiling, often distributing candies and playing with children. 

He marches to grace, joy and freedom. Before he passed away, he left a verse: 

"Maitreya Maitreya
Heavenly memory of reincarnation 
Time in the time of human 
times People often awakened. 

(That is: Maitreya is indeed Di Lac here, the incarnation of hundreds of thousands of memories, usually only teaches people, but people do not know). 

At that time it was known that he was the reincarnation of Maitreya Buddha and sculpted to worship. 

Thus, the Maitreya Buddha that we are worshiping today is the image of the Venerable Grandfather, an incarnation of Maitreya, thus unlike the statues of other Buddhas. 



From the awareness of the behavior and morality of the Maitreya, Buddhists to welcome the Spring, come to the Buddha's temple, do good deeds, vow to practice, eliminate negativity, personal tribulations, family communal house and bridge of national security. This is a healthy concept in line with the way of building the happiness of mankind. 

In the era when the prevailing science, the people of the material tendency are strong, the moral value is overwhelmed by the polluted conscience of sentient beings. From there between people and people, unions with masses, religions with religions, this country and other countries arises contradictions and unjustly leads to solid struggle. Buddhist learners must realize that Buddhism always takes compassion and wisdom to degrade grief in humanity.
