DISCUSSION WHEEL.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
The wheel of reincarnation is the name only for a symbol drawn like a wheel with 12 spokes used to represent the teachings of the twelve conditions in the Buddha. The symbol of the wheel of reincarnation over time has become a familiar concept in folklore, sometimes under the name of the 'biochemical wheel' or the 'wheel of life and death'. So what does the wheel of reincarnation mean in a Buddhist house?
First of all, the wheel of reincarnation describes the reincarnation of sentient beings in the paths of samsara; at the same time, it manifests the essence of Buddhist ideas such as the teachings of the Four Noble Truths and the Ten Dual Conditions. The Four Noble Truths are four wonderful, profound truths. These four facts include: 1- this life is full of suffering; 2-that suffering has the cause of them, that is, craving, anger, delusion ..., 3- the state of anger destroys the causes of that suffering; 4- the path leading to that annihilation. Throughout the four truths that are expressed through the Four Noble Truths teachings are the tenet and two causes of conditions. It is the teaching of the twelve-part causal chain that explains the working process of the whole world, including both sentient and unintentional.
Talking about the history of formation, the wheel of reincarnation was not originally a symbol formed in the time of the Buddha, although the teachings of the twelve conditions are often explained in detail by the Buddha. The twelve conditions and conditions are compared to the wheel pattern found in later commentaries such as the Pure Land Commentary . Initially, this wheel image appear in South India, but then the missionaries brought to North India (Legend is Nagarjuna), and developed prevailing there, especially as in Kashmir . Today, the image of the reincarnation wheel is only popular in Tibet, this is also where the art of reincarnation wheel drawing develops the most.
We also need to differentiate between the wheel of samsara ( bhavacakra ) and the wheel of the Dharma (Dharma, Dharmacakra ). The Wheel of Dharma is a symbolic image of Dharma transport (bringing the Dharma into life), specifically to indicate the fact that the Buddha gave his first sermon at the Deer Park (Deer Park). That lecture event is called the Zhuan Falun, the first discourse is called the Zhuan Falun. The French wheel symbol is a circle like a wheel with many spokes, which is the same symbol that King Ashoka engraved on the stone pillar, and today it is printed on the flag of India. For convenience, the wheel of the Dharma is sometimes symbolized by a wheel with 8 spokes symbolizing the Eightfold Path.
Unlike the Dharma wheel, the wheel of reincarnation is a complex model that describes the causal relationship of the 12 conditions and conditions. It says that man must be responsible for his actions, to receive the results according to the created karma. The 12 conditions are bound to form a circle in the opposite direction, people go through 12 stages in these two directions and then reborn in the realm of joy or suffering in the six paths (6 realms). However, that model not only describes the realm of reincarnation, but also recommends and guides people out of those six realms to advance to the realm of liberation (Nirvana).
At first glance, we see the wheel of reincarnation being embraced by a demon in its sharp fangs. That speaks of the fragile, impermanent nature of life. People are always lurking by the impermanence, the Lord of Death is always monitoring all activities to wait for the opportunity to take their lives.
The picture of reincarnation begins at the first circle in the very center. There were three animals biting each other in a circle, which were the three poisons: a black pig representing ignorance, a green snake representing hatred and hatred, and a rooster. symbolizes greed and lust. Those are the three types of venom that make up the dark state of life. Beings are drawn by those three toxins, so they must be reborn in the realms of suffering.
There are two black and white paths illustrated by a half black, half white circle surrounding the three central animals. On the white road, the Saints are aiming to show the virtuous life leading to happy realms. On the black road, cruel people with noose in their hands are dragging each other down the lower places cruelly.
Those ignorant people and crimes will be led into the life cycle of suffering because of the causal relationship of the 12 conditions: ignorance, formations, consciousness, rupa, origin, contact, feeling, love, attachment, friendship, birth and death. The biochemical circle is depicted by 12 images in the outer circle. The meaning of those 12 images is as follows:
Figure 1: Our present life has its profound origin, which is Ignorance — the blindness and the confusion that does not recognize the nature of life. This initial image of the outer circle depicts a blind old man with a cane to indicate that state of Ignorance.
Figure 2: A potter with pots made by him, it points to Hanh — blind impulse to live. The potter makes the pots just as we have created the rebirth karma.
Figure 3: An ape is passing from branch to branch symbolizing Consciousness — a dynamic state of consciousness running after the outside scene.
Figure 4: Image of the boatmen representing the combination of Danh-Sac. Boat and man are not separate, just like nama and rupa combine to form man. The boat is Rupa, the body part; the person is Danh, only the spirit; there are 2 or 4 people on the boat to show Tho, Thought or Tho, Thought, Formation and Consciousness (the mental factors of the five aggregates).
Figure 5: An empty house with 5 windows and a main door representing the Lu Xu — 6 senses. People perceive the world through the six senses as well as the wind passing through the doors to enter the house.
Figure 6: A couple entwined to show Touch, that is the contact between 6 senses and 6 realms (outside world).
Figure 7: A person is stabbed in the eye by an arrow to show Tho, the perception element brought by Touch. Tho, although there are 3 types of happiness, suffering, and neutrality, but they only bring about the results of disturbing emotions, so they have such painful images.
Figure 8: The image of a woman offering wine to a man, it shows the human aspiration, that is, Ai.
Figure 9: A person picking fruit only for Thu, is the attachment and the effort to satisfy craving.
Figure 10: A woman and a child, that is Huu, is the becoming or the state of creation in preparation for rebirth.
Figure 11: A woman is giving birth in a painful position, that is Birth — birth.
Figure 12: Picture of a person carrying a dead body buried to show Lao Tzu — an inevitable state of life.
Beings are born in a predestined relationship, depending on what karma did, they are reborn in the six realms called the Six Paths to receive retribution. These six realms are depicted by 6 areas within the 12 predestined circle, including the realm of the gods, of the Arahants, of humans, of animals, of hungry ghosts and of hell.
Realm 1: The top area is the realm of heavenly species. Although it is the most happy realm in samsara, but still cannot avoid the law of birth and death. In it there is a picture of a Buddha holding a harp to indicate the transformation of the Buddhas, who always appear and remind them of the uncertain impermanence of the world in which they live, advising them not to be arrogant and free-spirited, then the happiness can last long.
Realm 2: The lower right is the realm of A tu-la, the realm of the gods engrossed in war with the gods because of their jealousy and hatred, their suffering is The persistent wars never end. There a Buddha appeared with a sword in his hand to teach these beings.
Realm 3: The left part is the realm of human beings who are suffering from the sufferings of ego, delusion ..., they are born and die in that state of suffering. Buddha appeared here with a bowl in his hand to teach people to cultivate merit, to expect liberation.
Realm 4: The lower left part is the realm of animals, which is full of suffering caused by oppression and eating each other. Buddha appeared with sutras in hand to teach them.
Realm 5: The lower right is the realm of the hungry ghosts who are suffering from constant hunger and hunger with their big bellies and their small necks. The Buddha appeared with a precious food vase that was alleviating their suffering.
Realm 6: The bottom part is the realm of hell, where the torments are taking place to punish bad karma formed from previous life. Hell life is not eternal life. After the hell karma ends, the sinner will be reborn into other realms. Here, the Buddha appeared with fire in his hand with the meaning of bringing light and hope to this darkest place.
It should be added, the original wheel only 5 areas inside (no realm of Asura), but after introduction into North India, it is Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), the religious reform and founder of the Gelugpa school (The Venerable Virtues, the Tibetan Pope of which the Dalai Lama is the head) added a sixth part and since then there have been two types of wheel of rotation in Tibet. recovery.
Outside the circle are images of a Bodhisattva and a Buddha, a Bodhisattva representing the path of the Bodhisattva practice, and a Buddha representing the attainment of Nirvana. enter to practice that path.
Thus, with symbolic images, the wheel of reincarnation has described the whole movement of the Dharma realm. Although a life of suffering is bound by karma, it keeps rotating, but with efforts to practice according to the Dharma, that cycle can also be broken so that sentient beings can reach the realms of security. liberation fun no longer implications.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.2/4/2021.
