Why are people 'be gentle' but not 'good'? VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH,
Karma from a previous life
The law of cause and effect is one of the basic tenets of Buddhist teachings . According to the law of cause and effect in Buddhism, "where good meets good", "in evil meets evil", "whatever you sow, you will reap".
But in reality, the opposite can happen in life, there are people who live very well, do good deeds all their lives, but their numbers are unlucky; and bad people do evil, but find them very lucky and live happily.
Because of this, many people are confused, in addition to doubting about fairness, about the law of cause and effect. Explaining this, the Buddha said that the "unfairness" that ordinary people see is actually very fair according to the law of cause and effect. And this is directly related to karma from past lives.

The Buddha taught in the cause and effect sutras that: If you want to know your previous life, look at the results of the present life; If you want to know the results of the next life, look at the creations of the present.
Many people do not believe that they live in this life but have lived countless other lives in the past. However, this is what Shakyamuni Buddha saw clearly after attaining enlightenment. The karma that people create in their lifetimes keeps piling up over the years and follows them from beginningless eons to the present.
In the present life, people are not only influenced by newly created karma, but they also have to pay the karma of previous lives that they are still "debted".
That is why in this life there are people who are "sane", live well but have not yet received good retribution, that is, because they are "paying" things that they have "borrowed" in previous lives. And conversely, those who have had great blessings from their previous lives are happy in this life.
Causality and retribution is only sooner or later
"In life, whether rich or poor, rich or low, wise or foolish, good or bad, everyone wants to live happily. The fruit everyone wants to be good, but the cause, we do not sow. Or sow evil and want good and sweet fruit, it's absurd."
He also explained that we look for happiness forever but do not find it, only seeing sorrow and suffering. Suffering, we went to the temples, looking for people to ask for guidance. What does Buddhism teach us? First of all, we teach the law of cause and effect, so that we know how to do good towards good blessings and avoid evil causes and harm others, because what we sow, we will reap.
“When people meet bad retribution, they complain that heaven blames the earth for blaming it on… but they refuse to sow good deeds in the present. Many people have committed crimes but have not been discovered because bad causes have not yet produced results, they still enjoy leisurely, as innocently as innocent people, even defaming the law of cause and effect. Until the end of the blessing, the suffering comes with no end of days", Venerable Thich Dat Ma Pho Giac acknowledged.
Cultivate how to transform bad karma?
Many people think that karma is something terrible, due to the supernatural coming to life, not knowing that karma is simply a habit.
Because it is a habit, each person has the right to choose and modify at their own discretion. Long-term negative thoughts, we have had bad actions, bad words and bad thoughts. This creates unwholesome karma…
Bad habits create bad karma, we can completely transform unwholesome karma by gradually changing our habits. The cultivation of each person should start from his words, actions and mind. For example, changing lies into truth, flattery into uprightness; convert bad actions such as stealing into good actions such as giving, helping others, etc.
Most especially, we must practice changing bad, negative thoughts into positive thoughts - good intentions. Since the mind is the active, the body and the speech are just the practice, so when you can change the active, you can come to an end of bad karma.
If we regularly practice these things, we will form good habits, which means we have converted from past bad karma to good karma.
However, one thing must be clear that, the karma (good and bad) that people create in this life is not lost because of past karma; but at some point, the cause and conditions converge fully, that karma will turn into results.
In the Dhammapada, Buddha Shakyamuni also said this very clearly in verses that said: "A person who sows good, good fruit has not yet. It is because the time of flowering is far away. With enough conditions, a good tree blooms. In a sage, he reaps happiness. must be the truth” (Dharma Rule No. 120).
“He who does evil has not yet ripened. Not because cause and effect are not sacred. Until the bad fruit is around. Evil meets evil, suffering day and night” .
Understanding the Buddha's teachings, we need to try to practice more to soon transform the bad karma of the past and create good causes for the future.END=NAM MO SHAYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.24/5/2021.
