Although the World-Honored One did not often take care of and support his parents and relatives, but he devotedly took care of their spiritual life, making them spiritually sublimated, attaining Sainthood, and liberated and happy. This is the pinnacle of piety.
Buddhism is the path of liberation and enlightenment. In terms of filial piety, Buddhism is also known as filial piety, and the Buddha himself is the most representative of the spirit of filial piety. However, Shakyamuni Buddha's life sacrificed almost completely for sentient beings, he only spent a very small part of his time with his parents and relatives in his family and clan. And, with concern towards that very small secular family, the Buddha did a very wonderful thing, helping his relatives to learn to be free from the suffering of birth and death.
Although the World-Honored One did not often take care of and support his parents and relatives, but he devotedly took care of their spiritual life, making them spiritually sublimated, attaining Sainthood, and liberated and happy.
When hearing the news that Prince Siddhartha had crossed over into the monastic life, the whole city of Kapilavatthu was shocked at that time, but the most suffering was King Suddhodana, his mother Maha Pajàpati Gotami and Princess Yasodhara. Can't suffer when the crown prince is the hope of the royal family and the nation of Kapilavatthu. He left the city and did not set a date to return, leaving a huge void for everyone in the kingdom that nothing could fill. Of course, Prince Siddhartha knew the grief and disappointment of his loved ones, but for the sake of liberation and enlightenment for himself and especially for all sentient beings, he was determined to find the way.
Until he attained Supreme Enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, became a Buddha, a famous and famous teacher, converted Brahmins, kings and all peoples to return to the right path but the way back to the old district of Kapilavatthu. Buddha is still far away. During the 45 years of traveling and spreading the word, the Blessed One returned several times to Kapilavatthu with the Sangha. But the focus of these visits is to spread the Dharma, not just a regular visit.
After the burial of King Suddhodana's father finished, the Buddha discussed with the royal family, the agenda of bringing Mahanama, the eldest son of Prince Sukkodana to the throne to succeed King Suddhodana.
On his first return to Kapilavatthu, after finishing his second summer retreat at Veluvana, in addition to visiting relatives, the Buddha taught his father Suddhodana and his courtiers to understand the basic foundation of the Dharma. The Tathagata and helped his father enter the Holy Order, attaining the First Fruit of Tu Da Hoan. Mahā Pajàpati Gotami, Princess Yasodhara also enjoy the liberating teachings. During this first return, princes such as Nanda, Prince Rahula gave rise to ordination.
When he heard that his father Suddhodana was old and very ill, the Blessed One together with the Sangha once again personally returned to Kapilavatthu after the fifth retreat in Vesali. At that time, King Suddhodana was 81 years old, knowing that he was about to accept the world of impermanence, so he sent the great minister Mahanama, the son of Prince Sukkodana (White Brahma King) to invite the Buddha to Kapilavatthu so that the king could see his face one last time. In an emergency situation, the Blessed One took a horse-drawn vehicle (most of the Buddha's spiritual journeys throughout India were on foot) quickly returned to Kapilavatthu. Before the death of his father, King Suddhodana, he was able to listen to the mysterious Dharma talk on impermanence and not-self, attaining the fruit of arahantship, completely liberated from birth and death.
After the burial of King Suddhodana's father finished, the Buddha discussed with the royal family, the agenda of bringing Mahanama, the eldest son of Prince Sukkodana to the throne to succeed King Suddhodana. At this time, the deceased mother Mahà Pajàpati Gotami and Princess Yasodhara and 500 Shakyamuni, after many times of applying for ordination but not being accepted by the Buddha, cut their hair, put on rough clothes, and walked with the Buddha to Vesali. After many trials, the Buddha finally accepted, the nuns formed and always stood side by side with the monks to propagate the Dharma.
Those in the Buddha's relatives were taught by him to practice and achieve liberation.
During the seventh season of residence in Samkassa village, upstream of the Ganga River, the Blessed One went to the Dao Loi heaven to preach the Dharma to his mother, Queen Maya. At that time, Queen Maya was reborn as a fairy in the Dao Loi heaven. The goddess Maya together with the celestial assembly heard the Abhidhamma and the Earth Store Sutra from the Buddha's mouth and achieved liberation.
Thus, those of the Buddha's relatives were taught by him to practice and achieve liberation. Although the World-Honored One did not often take care of and support his parents and relatives, but he devotedly took care of their spiritual life, making them spiritually sublimated, attaining Sainthood, and liberated and happy. This is the pinnacle of filial piety. The Sangha Division I, the Buddha taught: "Bhikkhus, anyone who has no faith in their parents, encourages, guides, and settles them in faith; for parents who follow the evil world, encourage, guide, and settle them in the good world; for parents who are not greedy, encourage, guide, and stay in almsgiving; for parents who follow evil wisdom, encourage, guide, and dwell in wisdom. That's enough to do and repay enough for mom and dad."
