Ten Tales of Patience in the Pali Canon- Story 1: CIDDAMANAVIKà denounces the Buddha for meddling.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
Forbearance is the most wonderful thing because the Buddha's son who practices patience maturely, can eliminate anger and harm mind, is an important factor for practitioners to achieve liberation from the mind of liberation and compassion. On the other hand, those who, out of compassion for sentient beings, practice patience (no anger, no harm), can achieve the Bodhisattva's great compassion.
Often follow loving-kindness
Let go of thoughts of anger
Great compassion for sentient beings
Heartbroken tears
Tu makes a great body
To me, also attain the Dharma
Help with morality
That is Bodhisattva Hanh.
(Sutra of Goodwill)
Forbearance, forbearance, with many people
Italy is not angry, everything is fun
Virtue of true cultivation, seeking liberation
Everyone learns Buddha, rings for life .
In Buddhism, patience is not melancholy, weakness, cowardice, patience is a very clear positive attitude led by wisdom, when facing failures, do not despair, achieve success. Not arrogant, that's the meaning of the ring
"In the religious life, be arbitrary
Peace of mind, no worries
Outside the six worlds without attachment
Be calm inside, let's be calm
Thoughts arise and immediately let go
Peace of mind, peace of mind
That's the truth for life
Don't be bothered by the crazy scene
CHAPTER I – HAPPINESS WITH slander and defamation
STORY FIRST - CIDDAMANAVIKA ACCEPTED TO THE Buddha ABOUT COMMUNICATION.
This story the Master told while staying in Jetavana about Ciddamânavikà (who had falsely accused the Buddha of cheating).
When the Ten Powers attained Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment, then this group of disciples became more numerous, countless gods and humans were born in the heavenly world, and the seeds of good conditions spread everywhere, so he gained fame and fame. splendor and noble offerings. The pagan pagans are like fireflies after dawn, they no longer have fame, profit, and offerings; They went out into the middle of the street shouting loudly at the crowd:
- Hey, is the recluse Gotama an Enlightened One? We are also Enlightened Ones. Only the offerings made to him bring great results? Our offerings also bring great results to you. So will you make offerings to us, serve us too?
But no matter how much they cried, they did not get any fame and benefit. Then they secretly met together, and discussed the next question:
- How can I disgrace the recluse Gotama in public to put an end to his fame and gain?
At that time at Savatthi there was a certain girl named Cincamânavikà, of great beauty, graceful and slender, like a goddess, light as if radiating from her body. There are people who plot evil schemes as follows:
- Thanks to Cincamânavikà's help, I can dishonor the recluse Gotama and put an end to the fame and gain he enjoys.
- Yes, we all agree. We have to do it that way.
When she went to the practice of the pagans, bowed to them, and stood still, the evil gurus said nothing to her. She asked:
- Did you do something wrong? I have greeted the Venerables three times already.
Again she said:
- Venerables, why don't you say anything to me?
They replied:
- Hey, sister, do you know that the recluse Gotama is traveling through here and harming us, losing all the fame and benefits that we have enjoyed before?
- Venerables, I don't know that, but what can I do?
- Hey, sister, if you want us to be good, let yourself dishonor the recluse Gotama to put an end to the fame and gain he enjoys.
She replied:
- Well, venerable sirs, please leave that to me.
With that, she said goodbye and left.
Then she used all the tricks of women to deceive people. When the people at Savatthi finished listening to the Dharma and left from Ky Vien, she would often go to Ky Vien again, wearing a robe dyed in red yenchi, holding a fragrant wreath in her hand. When someone asked her:
- Where to go at this hour?
She replied:
- What do you have to do with my departure, I asked when I came back?
She stayed at night in the retreat of those evil masters, close to Ky Vien, and then in the morning, when the lay followers of the Sangha from the capital came to pay their respects to the Sangha in the morning, she often met them as if she had stayed the night at Ky Vien and then went back to the capital. If anyone asked her where she had stayed, she would answer:
- Where do I stay, what's wrong with you?
But after about six weeks she replied:
- I stayed the night at Ky Vien with the recluse Gotama in the Huong room.
The heathens began to wonder if that was true. After about three or four months, she wrapped several layers of cloth around her belly again, pretending to be pregnant, and put on her red robe. Then she announced that she was pregnant with the recluse Gotama, causing the blind fools to believe him. After about eighty-nine months, she tied up pieces of wood rolled up into bundles, covered her with a red coat, beat the bones of the cow's jaws against the limbs to swell, and made a tired appearance.
One afternoon when the Tathagata was sitting on a throne preaching the Dharma, she entered the assembly, stood in front of the Tathagata and said:
- This Great Samana, indeed he is preaching to many assemblies; His voice is so gentle, but He has made me pregnant and the due date is near, yet He has not arranged a room for me to give birth, He does not give me fresh butter or cooking oil at all. The things that he himself did not want to do, he did not ask a lay person to do instead, such as King Kosala, Mr. Alone or a female attendant Visakha. Why don't you tell one of them to do what is needed for me? He knows how to enjoy sensual pleasures, but he doesn't know how to take care of the results that will arise from it!
So she slandered the Tathagata in public like a person trying to throw mud to stain the moon. The Tathagata stopped preaching and shouted like a lion's roar resounding everywhere:
- Hey, sister, what you just said is right or wrong, only you and I know.
She replied:
- Yes, indeed, how this happened, only you and I know.
At that moment, the throne of Sakka (Imperial Lord) was burning hot. Upon closer examination, he clearly saw the reason: "She Cincamânavikà is slandering the Tathagata about an unreal thing." He decided to clarify the matter, and went there with the four Angels. The Angels disguised as field mice immediately bit the rope that tied the bundle of wood, and then a gust of wind blew over her red dress, the bundle was exposed and fell on her feet, her toes were all severed. . The masses shouted:
- A witch is slandering the Perfectly Enlightened One.
The crowd immediately spat on her head, took sticks and rocks to chase her out of the Ky Vien Monastery. When she was out of sight of the Tathagata, the great earth opened its mouth in a huge fissure, and flames rose from the lowest hell, enclosing her in flames as if in a wedding cardinal. that her friends would cover her, then she would fall to the lowest hell, and be reborn there. The fame and gain of the evil masters still dissipated, but the fame and gain of the Ten Powers increased even more.
The next day, the Sangha discussed in the Dharma hall:
"Friend, bhikkhu, the lady Cincamânavikà slandered the Buddha of Perfect Enlightenment with great merit worthy of all offerings, and she was horribly damned!
The Master came in and asked the Sangha what they were talking about while sitting here. The public presented to Him. He said:
- It is not only now that this woman falsely accused Me and was tragically destroyed, but also in the past.
Having finished speaking, He told a story from the past.
*
Once upon a time, when King Brahmadatta. Reigning over Benares, the Bodhisatta was born as the son of the right queen. Seeing that the bodhisattva's face was full of blessings like a blooming lotus, the king named him Paduma-Kumara, which means Prince of Lotus. When he grew up, he was fully taught all academic disciplines. At that time, the chief queen died, the king ordained another queen and made him viceroy.
Then the king was about to set out to quell the rebellion at the border, and said to the queen:
- Hey, dear, please stay here while I go to clear the border.
But she replied:
- My Lord, it can't be, I don't want to stay but I ask to follow the Lord.
The king then pointed out to her the dangers of the battlefield and added:
- Please stay here, don't worry, because until I return to the palace, I will entrust Prince Paduma to take care of everything that needs to be done for you and then I will go.
Having said that, the king went on his way.
When he had defeated the enemy and pacified the country, he returned to camp outside the capital. When the Bodhisattva heard that his father had returned, he immediately decorated the royal capital in a brilliant way, then guarded the palace carefully, and then went alone to meet his father. The queen observed his handsome appearance and fell in love with him. When he said goodbye to the queen, he said:
- Madam, what can the king do for his mother?
She said:
- He called me a queen mother?
Then she stood up and took his hands and said:
- Please lie on the bed of the concubine.
- For what? He asked.
- Let's enjoy the pleasures of sex until the king returns.
- Dear mother, the mother is the mother of the gods, and the mother still has a father here. I have never heard of a woman, a stepmother, breaking the morality of following carnal lusts like that. How could a god child commit such an unclean sin against his mother?
She begged him two or three times, he still refused, she said:
- So you won't do as I say?
- Indeed, the child does not accept!
- Then I will report to the king's father for an order to cut off your head!
Bodhisattva said:
- Please do as the queen wishes.
Then He left, leaving her there, full of shame and shame. Then, in the midst of her horror, she thought: "If the prince goes to talk to the king before me, I will not live. Then I must take care of telling him first."
So she did not touch the good things, but put on a stained royal robe, scratched her whole body with her fingernails, and ordered the palace maid:
- Whenever the king asks where the queen is, tell her that she is ill.
Then she lay down, pretending to be sick.
At that time, the king majestically paraded around the city in the right direction and entered the palace. When he did not see her, he asked:
- Where's the chieftain?
They replied:
- Ma'am, she's sick.
He immediately entered the palace and asked her:
- Is there something wrong with the queen?
She acted as if she didn't hear anything. The king asked two or three times before she replied:
- Your Majesty, what do you ask? Please, King, be quiet: women who get married have to suffer like concubines.
- Who has offended the queen? King said: - Speak quickly and then I will order to cut off its head.
- Who did the Great King leave in place of the Great King in this city, when the Great King left?
- Prince Paduma.
She continued:
- And so the prince entered the concubine's room, and the concubine asked: "Don't do this, prince, I am the queen's mother."
But the prince exclaimed: "No one is the king here but me. Then I will bring her back to my palace and have sex with her."
Then the prince grabbed my hair and pulled it out again and again, and because I did not comply with the prince's wishes, the prince severely beat me and left.
The king did not need to investigate the matter, but became angry like a snake, and immediately ordered the soldiers:
"Now go and tie up Prince Paduma and bring it to me.
They immediately went to his palace, flocked through the city, tied him up, beat him, tied his hands behind his back, wrapped around his neck a red garland of a condemned man, and led him to his house. He came to the palace, and beat him while walking. He knew well that this was caused by the queen, so while he was walking, he cried aloud:
- Hey guys, I have done nothing against the king. You are innocent.
The whole city resounded with bad news: "They say the king is going to execute a corpse on the orders of a woman!"
The people rushed to kneel at the prince's feet and cried loudly:
- My God! He doesn't deserve to be punished like this!
Finally they brought him before the king. Immediately seeing his face, the king could not suppress what was stored in his heart, so he shouted:
"This man is not a king, but he has done his father's work perfectly, he is my son, but he offended the queen." Now drag him by the neck, and drop him into the abyss of thieves and let him die.
But the prince said:
- Father, I have not committed that crime. Please don't kill me for a woman's word.
The king still did not listen to him, and then all the sixteen thousand concubines in the harem cried loudly:
"Oh dear Prince Paduma, mighty Prince Paduma, you don't deserve to be treated like this.
Then all the generals and the lords, and the ministers, cried out:
- My Lord, the prince is a good and virtuous man, still keeping the tradition of his lineage, the successor on the throne. Please don't kill him on the advice of a woman who won't listen to anything. It is the duty of an ally to act with great care.
Having said that, the assembly immediately recited the verse:
1. King should not punish criminals tội
Without listening to clear arguments,
Nor do you think carefully
Every aspect, no matter how big or small, is sincere.
2. The general punishes mistakes
Before being brought to trial,
Like one born blind,
Eat all bones and flies.
3. Whoever punishes the innocent,
Let the guilty pass,
Nothing more than a blind man
The dust on the highway is too rough.
4. The reviewer looks at the whole thing
In matters big and small, very well,
Rule the country that way
Worthy of the throne among the students.
5. Someone in a high position
Dealing shouldn't be so easy,
Don't be too harsh, either.
Do both sides at the same time.
6. Too easy or scorned,
Rigorous is often angry,
Between these two things need to be understood
And keep the main line right.
7. You are angry, O King,
Talking as much as a dishonest man,
And so not for women,
Kill the king to continue the lineage.
But despite everything they said, the courtiers still could not convince the king to follow their words. The Bodhisatta too, used all his words of begging, but did not become the king's father and listened to him; no, the king was foolish and blind and said:
- Drag it by the neck and drop it into the abyss reserved for thieves.
Then the king recited the eighth stanza:
8. This whole country is standing on one side,
The other side is alone and loving,
To her, however, I cling,
Release it into the cave, get out!
Hearing these words, no one among the sixteen thousand concubines could stand still while all the subjects raised their hands to tear their hair and cry and wail. King said:
- Don't let these guys get in the way of throwing that guy into the abyss.
Then in the midst of the courtiers, and the people gathered around weeping, the king kept giving orders to grab the prince and throw him somersaults into the abyss.
At that time the deity residing on that hill used his benevolent power to comfort the prince, saying:
- O Paduma, please don't be afraid.
The deity reached out to meet him with both hands, held him close to his lap, transmitted through his body a wondrous emotion, bringing him into the abode of snakes of eight kinds, under the king's authority. The king of snakes welcomed the Bodhisatta into the snake's den, but gave him half of the glorious mountain, and he stayed there for a full year. Then he said:
I want to return to the human world.
They ask:
- To where?
- Go to Tuyet Son, where I want to live a monastic life.
The Snake King approved, took him to the place where humans passed, gave him all the necessary items of the religious life, and then returned to his old place.
So he went to the Tuyet Son area, followed a pious life, cultivated the power of Meditation to bring peace, and there he fed himself with forest fruits and vegetables.
At that time a forest ranger in Benares, went to that place, and recognized the Great Being. Guy said:
- My Lord, are you the great Prince Paduma?
He replied:
- That's right, sir.
The other paid homage to him and stayed for a few days. Then he returned to Ba La Complaint, reported to the king:
- Dear Lord, the prince has followed the life of a monk in the Tuyet Son region, currently living in the am la. I went there to stay with you and returned here.
King asked:
- Have you seen the prince with your own eyes?
- Oh my God, that's right.
The king immediately went there with a crowd of entourage, camped at the edge of the forest, and then went with a few courtiers to pay homage to the Great Being who was sitting in the doorway of the am in all splendor, while the king sat down to one side; The courtiers also bowed to him with very cordial words, and then sat to one side. As for the Great Being, he invited the king to use the fruit of the forest and talked happily with the king. Then the king asked:
- Hey, king, you were dropped by me into the abyss, how can you still survive?
And the king recited the ninth verse to ask about it:
9. I was dropped into the abyss,
On the steep side of the mountain, the high pass slope
No one to help, thick coconut forest,
How are you still at peace?
The following are the remaining verses consisting of five alternating rhymes: three chanted by the Bodhisattva and two by the king.
Prince:
10. That one piece of snake is powerful enough
Born underground in the forest,
Catching a snake wrapped in a snake,
I am at peace, free from death.
Father king:
11.I will take you, children,
Go back to your father's palace,
What else do you do in the mountains,
Your happiness will now reign.
Prince:
12. Whoever swallowed the bait hook,
When the hook was pulled out, red blood gushed out,
If you can pull the hook, then you will be happy,
My heart is very happy and high.
Father king:
13. Why do you talk about hooks?
Why do you say that to peach blood?
What do you say about the hook?
What do you want to know now?
Prince:
14. Greed is the main hook, bait,
You say the horse and the elephant, the blood is dug,
I withdraw by leaving the world,
I need to know that, sir.
- Dear Great King, so being a king means nothing to me at all. But the Great King must pay attention not to violate the Ten Kings of Law, but to give up evil deeds and truly govern the people.
The Great Being encouraged his father through these words. The king mourned as he left, and on the way back to the capital, the king asked his courtiers:
- For whom should I part with such a virtuous son?
The congregation replied:
- Because of the queen.
The king immediately ordered the queen to be dropped into the abyss for thieves, then entered the city to rule according to the Dharma.
*
When the Master ended this Dharma talk, he said:
"Thus, bhikkhus, this woman has slandered me in the past, and is subject to painful destruction.
Then he identified the Forerunner by reciting the last verse:
15. My successor is Cinkah,
Devadatta, that is his father,
I am that Crown Prince Lien Hoa,
And the young god at that time was
Shariputra is now Elder,
Good snake lord Ananda,
And, Sangha, I declare
