Meaning of Tathagata.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.
Tathagata is a person who understands the world, thus has reached the extreme of the world, can understand the world. But it must be in the world to be able to understand the world, to be in samsara in order to overcome samsara, as described in the Rohitassa Sutta.
First of all, we mention the Tathagata in general, and then the Blessed One, Shakyamuni Buddha in particular, what definitions have been used to describe them, and especially what contributions are very especially about the main teachings, the disciplines that help beings escape suffering.
One question that may make many people wonder, in the past as well as in the present, is who the Buddha is, is he a god, is the fairy, is he like us? We are Buddhists, we are Buddhists. We need to see who the Buddha is, in accordance with the Buddha's teachings? A question about a number of questions was cleverly answered by the Buddha in Sutta No. 36, "Regarding the dependence of the world."
Brahmin Dona saw the footprints of the Buddha (wheel of Dharma) with all the details, when Buddha walked on the road between Ukkatha and Setabbya, thinking that this is not a human footprint, So he came close to the Buddha and asked, "Are you going to be a fairy, will you be the goddess, you will be the dragon, will you be human?" With these four questions, He sequentially answered: "I will not be Elf, I will not be Càn Thát Ba, I will not be Da Xoa, I will not be Hirm".
The answer surprised Brahman Dona, and it is easy for us to understand, because if the Buddha answered: "I will be the gods ... or I will be human", the Buddha must be reborn , there must be samsara. That's why the Buddha answered: "I will not be the gods, I will not be the Buddha, I will not be the Buddha, I will not be the Man." But this answer surprised Brahman Dona, prompting him to ask, "So what is your ministry, and what will the venerable be?" The Buddha's next answer is very special:
- "Brahmin, for those who have not finished the illegal or, We can be the gods with the illegal or have finished, cut from the roots, made into Tala trees, made for cannot exist, made to be unable to arise in the future, Brahmin, for those who have not ceased to be smuggled or, We can be Can Thàn Bà, We can be Da Xoa, We can is a human being, with gonorrhea or finished, cut from the roots, made like a Tala tree, made impossible to exist, made impossible to arise in the future ... ". Thus, depending on the sentient beings mentioned, for beings as the gods have not ended the illegal, the Buddha may be the gods, but with the illegal or ended, there is no longer being reborn. For mankind we have not finished yet, or the Buddha may be human,
In other words, whatever kind of sentient beings are still smuggled or, being still reborn, the Buddha may be that being, but with the smuggled or finished. We are human, the Buddha is human for us, only the difference, the Buddha is the one who has finished the illegal or, and we are human, but not finished the illegal. Then the Buddha gave us an example that clearly defines his position in the human world: "For example, Brahmin, blue lotus, pink lotus or white lotus born in water, grows up in the water, rising out of the water and standing up straight, not wet. I am Buddha, so be receptive.
Then the Buddha used a poem to sketch his image in life:
"With or without fragments,
Can Be Slapped,
Or go to Da Xoa,
With Me, smuggled or take,
As beautiful white lotus,
Life is not soak me,
I am Buddha, Mindfulness,
I can be a fairy, I
can be a bird,
Or I can enter the human womb.
Destroyed, destroyed,
Not soaked by water,
So I am called,
O hey Brahmin ".
The Buddha lived in his life, not contaminated by life, as he called Tathagata (Tathàgata), which means that he truly understands life and understands how the world is not contaminated by life, such as the Sutta. " World ", (Tang Chi, IV-23), clearly stated:
- "Monks, the world is fully aware of the Tathagata, Tathagata has no implications for life. Hey monks, the world is able to start the Tathagata righteous awareness, the world is brought to an end by the Tathagata. The monks, the world is able to eradicate Tathagata, the world is able to eradicate the enlightened Tathagata, Hey Bhikkhus, the path to the world that is able to eradicate the Tathagata is the right path. World kill Tathagata section ".
"This, monks, in the whole world with the Heavenly Yard, the Phantom World, the Brahma World, together with the Mon, Brahmin, Gods, and humans, seen, heard, felt, to be awakened, to be attained, to be sought, to be observed, all of which are Tathagata, thus called Tathagata. until the night he entered Nirvana, during that time, what He said, said, declared, everything was like that, it couldn't be helped, so it was called Tathagata. whatever you say, whatever you say, because you say whatever you do, say what you say should be called Tathagata. "
"Monks, in the whole world, the Heavenly Yard, the Underworld, together with the masses of Brahmin, Brahmin, the Deities and the human race, the Tathagata is the victor, no one is defeated, omniscient, All Tathagata, so on. So called Tathagata. "As mentioned above, Tathagata is a person who understands the world, thus has reached the extreme of the world, can understanding of the world. But it must be in the world to be able to understand the world, to be in samsara to overcome samsara, as shown in the Rohitassa Sutta, (Sangha, IV-45).
In this Sutta, the Prince, Prince Rohitassa asked the Buddha, "Where is the White World Religion, not being born, not being old, not dying, not giving up (this life) without being born (another life), we can go to see, to know, to reach the end of the world? " And the Buddha replied decisively to the impossible. Rohitassa praised the answer of the Buddha, praising that it was wonderful because Prince Rohitassa himself walked at a lightning-fast pace, with footsteps from the East Sea to the West Sea, walking like that for 100 years. if he stopped, he had to die in the middle of the road.
But then the Buddha taught, we do not need to go far, on this body of ours, we can reach the ends of the world. "Sage, I declare that where there is no birth, no old age, no death, no renunciation of this life, no other generation of birth cannot go to see, to know, to attain But this sage, in this long body (byàmatta) with his thoughts and thoughts, I proclaims about the beginning of the world, about the world of cessation, about path to the world of extinction ".
And with the following stanza, the Buddha summarized his teaching:
"Go, never
If not, do not attain
Time without liberation.
Therefore,
the wise , Go to the end of the world, You
reach be calm
Do not expect this life.
Placing the ends of the world Placing the
ends of the world
Beyond suffering,
Understanding the world,
With the accomplishment of accomplishment,
Knowing the ends of the world,
Not wanting the next life ".
Because of the important role of their bodies I, so the Buddha taught except sakkàyaditthi (sakkàyaditthi), precepts and suspects can witness the Save Project, abandon the status of a mortal and enter the holy position. So sometimes the Buddha also bellowed the lion's roar of our five aggregates, a roar that terrifies the angels for believing that the bodies of the celestial beings often remain, as the Lions Sutra (Sangha, IV-33), has noted :
- "Similarly, monks, Tathagata sermon: This is the body of five aggregates (sakkàya), this is the body of five aggregates, this is the body of five aggregates, and this is the path to the body of five aggregates. O bhikkhus, there are gods, long life, great content, great enjoyment, long lives in great castles. These gods, after listening to the Tathagata lecture, most of them become into fear, trembling, frightened, they think: We are impermanent, this deities, but we think we are often. We are not permanent, this deities, but we think that we are permanent, we are not permanent residents, false gods, but we think we are permanent residents, false gods, we are impermanent, not permanent, non permanent residents, have been acquired photography. g this body. "With Buddha himself, he was enlightened,
"It is very difficult, not revered, disobedient. So let us reverence, prostrate and live y just on a monk or brahmin ... With the aim of making the aggregates incomplete ... To make the aggregates fully incomplete ... To bring to full the aggregates to be incomplete ... To bring about the full knowledge to liberate aggregates incompletely, respectfully, respectfully and live y But there is nowhere to be found in the world of gods, demons and Brahma, among the masses of Brahmin, gods and humans, there is no monk or Brahmin. any other subject, with precepts ... with samadhi ... with wisdom ... with more complete liberation than Me, we can reverence, pay homage and live just.
Then the monks, I think as follows: With this dharma that we have the feet of enlightenment, We should pay homage and live in accordance with that dharma. "Thus the Buddha with a humble mind wanted to find a monk. or Brahmin to rely on him to point to the Dharma, This attitude of the Buddha explains why the Buddha advised Venerable Ananda to not be melancholy after the Buddha's passing away, because Buddha's disciples always have the Dharma leadership, there is the Dharma to take refuge, there is the Dharma to take refuge. The Buddha can be considered as the preceptor who advised us not to rely on and rely on the individual, he only advised us to point to him. Dharma, should rely on Dharma.
And so we are not surprised that the Buddha is called the supreme being in the world of sentient beings like the Sutta "Beliefs" (Sangha, IV-34), who has determined: any sentient beings, this monks, no legs or two legs, four or more legs, with or without color, with or without thought, or in the utopia of non-utopia. The feeling is considered the supreme. Those who put their faith in the Buddha, they put their faith in the supreme. For those who put their faith in the ultimate, they are the result of the ultimate Shu ".
Because he occupies the supreme position in the world of sentient beings, due to his realization and liberation is practical, utterly perfect, completely pure, he lives in life, attaining four non-attitudes. fear, as the Sutta "Tang Vo Ye" (Tang Chi, IV-8) has presented. He declared: "There are four fearless of Tathagata, monks, due to the achievement of these four fearless beings, Tathagata claims to himself the position of Taurus king bellowing the lion in assemblies and turning the Falun ".
He saw that no one could criticize him for not being fully enlightened, not being completely smuggled or completely, the doctrines that he preached were true martyrs with no obstacles and the purpose of His legal statement, not practically put the practitioner to the end of suffering. Because he was truly fully enlightened, was really taking advantage of pirated, smuggled, illegally smuggled, because the legal obstacles that he claimed really hindered the practitioners on the path of spiritual practice, because His purpose of preaching, because the methods of practice introduced by him really helped thousands and millions of people to be liberated and enlightened. Therefore, he leisurely walked into every congregation, without a bit of timid fear, because no one could question and distress him. He witnessed the four fearless beings of truly enlightened beings.
With His supreme position, with His wonderful enlightenment, with His fearless four, He accomplished the four wonderful, unprecedented phenomena, as described in the "Abhidharma Sutta" (Tang Chi, IV-128):
"Monks, when Tathagata, the Arahant of the right eye appears, there are four wonderful, unmatched dharmas,".
"Monks, the public likes to hold, to hold on, to hold on to the wedding. When the Dharma does not accept the Tathagata preaching, they are smart to listen, to listen, to have peace of mind with right mind ... ".
"Monks, the public likes to be arrogant, to be haughty. When the dharma is not conceited, the Tathagata teaches them to listen, listen, and stay with the mind ..."
"Monks, the public prefers not to settle, to enjoy not to calm, to rejoice not to be peaceful. When dharma calm is given by the Tathagata, they are skillful to listen, to listen, and to rest in the mind with right mind. .. "
" Monks, the masses go to ignorance, become blind, tied up. When Tathagata preaches photography of ignorance, they skillfully listen, listen, and rest peace of mind with right mind. ... "
"Monks, when the Tathagata, arahant, appears at the right level, has four unmatched dharmas appearing." This is truly a wonderful influence of the Dharma. We have not heard the Dhamma alone, but we have heard the Dhamma of our own time gradually transforming, the nature of our attachment to acceptance is gradually becoming less of the attachment, our arrogant nature with less arrogance and arrogance , our wavering nature becomes calm and the omniscient ignorance becomes enlightened and enlightened. The sensory power of the true Dharma is truly marvelous. The Buddha's ability to convert is truly marvelous.
