Mindfulness of the breath in Da An.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.

The Dharma of the Buddha for the sake of peace and benefit for the majority, comes from compassion for life, for the peace and happiness of gods and humanity. The Buddha's teachings complete the first part, the middle part and the final part. The words of Buddha utterly perfect in terms of structure and words, wise people can come and see for themselves.

In the Mahasatipatthana Sutta (MAHĀSATIPAṬṬHĀNASUTTAṂ) The Buddha taught to establish mindfulness on the four aspects of body, feeling, mind and dharma. If we are observant, we can see that Buddha arranged the items not randomly but in a useful sequence for the practice. In the body contemplation, Buddha put the breath first and presented first, all with his intention. In meditation, breathing is an easy practice to bring about great results. Most practitioners succeed from the breath. Heading the breath upon accomplishment, the practice of the other headings is very easy such as impurity, corpse, etc.

The Pali Sutta Pitaka presents quite a lot about the breath, of which the three texts are most noticeable: The Sutta No. 22, the Great Contemplation of the School of Sutta; Sutta No.10, Mindfulness of the Central region and Sutta 118, Enter News, Export Mindfulness of the Central. But there is a sutta that few people pay attention to is the Ministry of Analysis of the Path (PAṬISAMBHIDĀMAGGO) of the Ministry of Sutta, this sutta was written by Sir Xa Loi and he was translated by Indacanda from Pali to Vietnamese. In the sutta section  Ānāpānasatikathā  - Lecturing on the Breathing of Breathing in and Out of Breathing, Sir Xa Loi Phat clearly presents how to recite the breath properly. Here are some excerpts from the text that follow Mr. Xa Loi Phat if practiced correctly will lead to right understanding and Nirvana. On page 323, practice one he teaches:

“Presence, breathing in and out is not the one mind. People do not know the three legal, unsuccessful practice.

Presence, breathing in and out is not the one mind. He identified the three training methods to be accomplished. "

The three dharmas here are the nimitta (the form of breathing), in-breath, out-breath.

These are not the objects of a mind, they are not unknown, the mind does not go to dispersal, the effort is perceived, the practitioner completes his practice, and attains the realization of What is enlightenment mean?

Just like a tree trunk is lying on a flat ground, a man can cut itself with a saw. The man's mindfulness is set according to the effect of the serrated teeth touching the tree trunk  without paying attention to the forward or back teeth. The cog forward or backward is not unknown, the effort is perceived and the person completes the task. How the trunk is located on the ground by the way, appearances due to the instant of the concept is like that. The sawtooth is how breath in, breath out is so. Thus the concept of a man is set according to the effect of the cog that touches the trunk of the tree without paying attention to the cogs forward or backward. The cog forward or backward is not unknown, the effort is perceived and the person completes the task. Similarly, after establishing the concept at the tip of the nose or on the upper lip, the monk is sitting, paying no attention to the breath going in or out. The breath in and out is not unknown, effort is perceived and the person completes the task. ”

Here we see Sir Shariputra clearly showing how to put the mindfulness on the breath at an early stage. He taught in the initial stage that it is only necessary to establish the concept at the tip of the nose or the upper lip, no need to keep track of how the breath enters into the body and when the exhaled breath is only placed in the nose, it does not care about it. how to go out into the air.

Then he taught: "While breathing in, he realized:" I breathed in long ", or while sighing, he realized:" I sighed out "means what? He breathed in and breathed out for a long time being recognized, he breathed out a long breath for a long time to be recognized. ” And in the feeling of the whole body, Sir Xa Loi Phat taught: "The feeling of the whole body, the breath in and out of the breath is the body, the establishment is mindfulness, the reflection is the mind, the body is the setting which is not mindfulness." Mindfulness is both the establishment and the mindfulness; with that concept with that position, he contemplates his body; thus it is said, "The practice of establishing the concept of contemplating contemplating the body and body." In the above passage shows that Sir Xa Loi Phat said "this body" is the "breath".

For those who strive to practice diligently, the right method will achieve great achievements on the path of practice, quickly moving towards liberation, as he affirmed: sequentially accumulated, according to the Buddha's teaching, shine this world, the moon escapes the clouds. ” END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.3/7/2020.
