4. PRACTICE OF MEDIATION (PAṬISĀRAṆĪYAKAMMAṂ):

[129] At that time, the great virtue Sudhamma was a permanent resident, a caretaker of the new project, a regular life-span of the real owner of the owner Citta in Macchikāsaṇḍa village. Whenever the owner of the Citta wishes to invite the assembly, or group, or individual, the owner does not invite the congregation, or group, or the individual without asking through the opinion of Venerable Sudhamma. At the time, many Bhikkhu khưu elders such as Venerable Sariputta, Venerable Mahāmoggallāna, Venerable Mahākaccāna, Venerable Mahākoṭṭhika, Venerable Mahākappina, Venerable Mahācunda, Venerable Anuruddha, Venerable Revata, Venerable Upāli, Venerable Upāli Andananda, and Venerable Rāhula, traveling in the land of Kāsi and came to live in Macchikāsaṇḍa.

- Bach, please elders, accept my invitation for the meal for the guests tomorrow.

The elder bhikkhus accepted the invitation in a silent manner.

[131] Later, when he understood the acceptance of the bhikkhus, the owner of Citta, from his seat stood up, bowed to the bhikkhu elders, directed the right shoulder around, and went to meet him. Venerable Sudhamma, after paying homage to Venerable Sudhamma, stood at one side. When standing on one side, the owner Citta said to Venerable Sudhamma this:

- Sir, Venerable Sudhamma, please accept my invitation to eat tomorrow with the elders.

On the second occasion, the owner of Citta told Venerable Sudhamma this:

- Sir, Venerable Sudhamma, please accept my invitation to eat tomorrow with the elders.

- Hey home owner, stop it. I did not accept.

For the third time, the owner of Citta told Venerable Sudhamma this:

- Sir, Venerable Sudhamma, please accept my invitation to eat tomorrow with the elders.

- Hey home owner, stop it. I did not accept.

At that time, the owner of Citta (thought): " What will affect us when Mr. Sudhamma accepted or not accepted ?" should pay homage to Venerable Sudhamma, turn his right shoulder around, and leave.

[132]  After that night passed, the owner of Citta provided him with soft, hard, premium food for the elder bhikkhus. Then Venerable Sudhamma (thinking): " Perhaps we should look through the preparation for the elder monks of the Citta master ?" so in the morning he was dressed, holding a bowl of medicine, went to the home of the owner of Citta, after arriving, he sat down on the assigned seat. At that time, the owner of Citta went to meet Venerable Sudhamma, after paying homage to Venerable Sudhamma and sat down at one side. Venerable Sudhamma said to the owner Citta who is sitting to the side:

-Home owner, this kind of soft hard food has been prepared completely by you. And one thing not here, is sesame cake.

- Sir, while a lot of things are found in the noble teachings of Buddha, yet the great Buddha Sudhamma only says one thing, which is " Sesame Cake ." Sir, in the past, southern merchants went to the eastern land to do business. From that land, they took away a hen. Sir, after that the hen was put to stay with the crow. It gave birth to a chick. Sir, when the little chicken wants to cry the crow, he will say, " crows are raucous ;" when he wanted to cry the cry of the hen he would say, " profane crows ." Sir, similarly, while many things are found in the precious teachings of the Buddha, yet Mr. Venerable Sudhamma only says one thing, which is " Sesame Cake ."

- Sir, I did not scold, I did not speak ill of Lord Venerable Sudhamma. Sir, Venerable Sudhamma, reside in the village of Macchikāsaṇḍa, in the lovely mango forest. I will strive for Venerable Sudhamma about clothing, food, shelter, and medicine when sick.

On the second occasion, Venerable Sudhamma told his owner Citta:

- Hey owner, you scold me. Hey owner, you speak ill of me Hey owner, this is your residence, I will leave this country.

- Sir, I did not scold, I did not speak ill of Lord Venerable Sudhamma. Sir, Venerable Sudhamma, reside in the village of Macchikāsaṇḍa, in the lovely mango forest. I will strive for Venerable Sudhamma about clothing, food, shelter, and medicine when sick.

On the third occasion, Venerable Sudhamma told his owner Citta this:

- Hey owner, you scold me. Hey owner, you speak ill of me Hey owner, this is your residence, I will leave this country.

- Sir, where will Venerable Sudhamma go?

-This homeowner, we will go to Sāvatthi to face the Buddha.

-Mr. Sir, so what did you say and what I said, all of that please show him the Blessed One. Sir, it is not unusual for him to return to Macchikāsaṇḍa once again.

[133]  Later, Venerable Sudhamma cleaned up the shelter and took the medicine bowl to Sāvatthi. Sequentially, Venerable Sudhamma went to Sāvatthi, Jetavana, Anāthapiṇḍika's monastery to meet the Blessed One, after having paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down at one side. When sat down on one side, Venerable Sudhamma presented to the Blessed One all that he had said and what the owner of Citta had said.

-This crazy guys, it is not right, not reasonable, not nice, not worthy sa-keeper, not allowed, should not do. Hey fool, why are you criticizing so badly, so badly contemplating the owner Citta is the benefactor whose faith has been dwell, who is the benefactor, the one who performs protection for the congregation? This is crazy, this incident does not bring confidence to those who do not have faith, ... After rebuking, he preached the Dharma talk and told the bhikkhus:

-The Bhikkhu khưu, so the assemblies, please implement the mediation for Bhikkhu Sudhamma: " You should ask the owner Citta to apologize ." And the Bhikkhu khưu, should implement like this: First of all, Bhikkhu Sudhamma should be reprimanded; After reprimand should be reminded; after reminding the need to determine the crime; After determining the crime, the assemblies should be notified by experienced, qualified bhikkhus:

" Gentlemen, please listen to the congregation. Bhikkhu Sudhamma criticized the worst way, contemptuously contemptuously the owner of the Citta is the benefactor who has faith that has been dwell, is the benefactor, who performs the protection for the assemblies. If the time is right for the assemblies, the assemblies should carry out the reconciliation of the Bhikkhu Sudhamma: 'You should ask the owner Citta to apologize.' These are suggestions.

[156] Bhikkhu khưu, ... (as above) ... three other conditions: To be implemented after being rebuked, implemented in accordance with the Dharma, is implemented with unity. Hey Bhikkhus, meet these three conditions ... (as above) ...

[157] Bhikkhu khưu, ... (as above) ... three other conditions: To be implemented after being reminded, to be implemented in accordance with the Dharma, is executed with unity. The Bhikkhu khưu, meeting these three conditions of reconciliation is the right practice of the Dharma, the right law, is completed well.

[158] Bhikkhus, the act of reconciliation is the practice of the Dharma, the practice of the Law, and it is completed well when it meets three other conditions: It is executed after determining the guilt. [159] Hey Bhikkhus, if you want the assemblies to be able to carry out mediation for the bhikkhu who meets all five characteristics: You try to make the house-holders lose profit, you try to make the homeowners lost benefits, tried to make the housekeepers lose their homes, taunted and slandered the housekeepers, and divided the housekeepers with the home-stayers. The Bhikkhu khưu, if want assemblies can implement the mediation for the Bhikkhu khưu meet these five characteristics.

[160] Bhikkhus, if you want the assemblies to be able to perform reconciliation with the bhikkhu who meets five other characteristics: The Buddha disdains the previous (face) of the lay people, the disdain the dharma before (face) the house-goers, the monk decays the monk before the fulfill the promise that is reasonable for homemakers. The Bhikkhu khưu, if want assemblies can implement the mediation for the Bhikkhu khưu meet these five characteristics.

[161] Bhikkhu khưu, if you want the assemblies can carry out the mediation for the five Bhikkhu khưu class: Striving to make the householder lose profit, class to make the people at home loss of benefits, striving to make the homeless people lose their place, class scolded and slander the homemakers, class separates the homemakers from the homemakers. The Bhikkhu khưu, if you want the assemblies can implement mediation for the five class Bhikkhu khưu.

[165]  Hey Bhikkhu khưu, Bhikkhu khưu Sudhamma and the Bhikkhu khưu messenger accompanying should go to Macchikāsaṇḍa and should ask the owner Citta apologize that:

- Hey owner, please forgive me. I'm making people happy.

If so said that he forgives, so that is good. If he does not forgive, the Bhikkhu khưu emissary accompany should say:

-This homeowners, please forgive this Bhikkhu khưu. He is making people happy.

If so said that he forgives, so that is good. If he does not forgive, the Bhikkhu khưu emissary accompany should say:

-This homeowners, please forgive this Bhikkhu khưu. I'm making people happy.

If so said that he forgives, so that is good. If he does not forgive, the Bhikkhu khưu emissary accompany should say:

-This homeowners, please forgive this Bhikkhu khưu for the words of the assemblies.

If so said that he forgives, so that is good. If he does not forgive, the Bhikkhu khưu emissary accompany should not lead Bhikkhu khưu Sudhamma away from sight, should not lead away from the hearing of the owner of Citta, should protect the upper robes on one shoulder, told to squat , told him to put his hands up, and to confess his sins.

[166] Later, Venerable Sudhamma and his messenger went to Macchikāsaṇḍa and asked the owner of Citta to apologize. He made his duty seriously, became withdrawn, made his duty to amend, then went to meet the Bhikkhu khưu and said like this:

- White devas, being apprehended by the congregation for reprimanding me to do my duty strictly, becoming impulsive, doing my duty to revise, how should I practice now?
