The meaning of the Five senses, the five forces.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
Root, Sanskrit is indriya, which means capable of generating, increasing. Just like the roots of a tree not only grow by itself, but also help the branches, leaves, and fruits become more lush. So are the five senses, Faith, Effort, Mindfulness, Concentration and Wisdom have the outstanding effect, eliminating defilements, and leading the practitioner to the Noble Path.
The five faculties have the effect of subduing afflictions, leading and increasing on the holy path; capable of giving rise to all kusala dharmas.
The Mahayana meaning chapter, volume 16, also clearly explains the meaning of the five faculties as follows: "The five faculties have the power to generate the Holy Path, and also have the ability to deal with afflictions such as unbelief, distrust, and liberation. restlessness, restlessness, ignorance".
The saga, volume 25, says that the five roots have very close causality. Because of faith, one must practice diligently; by practicing diligently, one can maintain mindfulness; with mindfulness, there is concentration; with concentration, wisdom arises.
According to the Guide to Contemplation of the Teaching and Advocacy, Volume 7, the cultivator, although the seeds of good dharma have arisen, but are still small, and the roots have not yet arisen, so they must cultivate these five dharmas in order to make the good roots grow. therefore these five dharmas are all called faculties.
The scriptures record that there are 22 roots in all, but in the A-Ham Journal, only 8 unscrupulous roots are presented, that is, the root of the present position, the root of the knowledge, the base of ignorance (also known as the base of knowledge), the root of faith, Strength, Mindfulness, Concentration and Wisdom.
The scriptures say: "There are three bases: the root of the current position, the root of the knowledge, and the base of the inanimate". The current knowledge base means that the unknown base will know, which appears in the position of Viewing Path. Root knowledge is a known base, appearing in the position of Tu Dao. The unknowing root is the fully known root (the old man), appearing in the position of Uneducated.
The five faculties are defined by the Buddha as follows:
- Faith root is the generation of pure, fundamental faith in the Tathagata that other recluses, brahmins, gods, ghosts, Brahmas, recluses, brahmins, and so on. Other times cannot obstruct or destroy that mind.
- Trin root is the effort to eliminate the evil evil unwholesome has been born; prevent the evil unwholesome unborn, causing no birth; the Dharma has not yet been born, causing birth; the kusala dhammas have been born, making the residence not lost.
- Mindfulness means living in contemplation of the body within the body, diligently seeking means, being mindful and wise, subduing greed and worldly superiority; living in the body outside, inside and outside the body; and feelings, mind, and dharmas on the dharma also say the same.
- The basis of concentration is separation of desire, separation of evil and unwholesome dharmas, enlightenment with contemplation, joy and happiness due to separation from birth, until, attainment and abiding in the Four Meditations.
- The root of wisdom is to know as it really is about the Noble Truth of Suffering, to know as it really is about the Noble Truth of Suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the cessation of suffering.
Thus, the content of "Faith of Faith is the four Pure Indestructibles. The root of the effort is the four Chief of Staff (the four main steps). The Foundation of Mindfulness is the four foundations of Mindfulness. Root Concentration is the four Zen. Root of Wisdom is the Four Noble Truths” (Ka-A-ham Sutra).
The Buddha said, for the five senses, "If you practice, practice a lot, then all past, present, and future sufferings will be eradicated." Specifically, "If a bhikkhu is skillful in contemplating these five senses as they really are, he or she will abandon knowledge of the three endings, that is, completely eliminate personal view, precepts, and doubt. That is called Tu-da-turn, no longer falling into the evil dharma path, one will definitely go straight to Right Enlightenment, and seven times going through Heaven and Human, will finally end the end of suffering." Furthermore, “With regard to these five senses, one who contemplates as it really is, without arising of the taints, will attain liberation from sensual desire. This is called an arahant. The cankers are exhausted, the work that needs to be done is done, the burdens have been removed, the benefits have been achieved, all affiliations are exhausted. By right wisdom, the mind is skillfully liberated." -jaw).
These five roots, the wisdom root, take over all. “For example, all kinds of trees in the house, guard, then the roof pole is above all, all other trees depend on the roof pole to stay still. Thus in the five senses, Tue captures all, so Wisdom is above all. These merits, Wisdom is first, because Wisdom takes over all” (A-Ham Sutra).
Wisdom is generated for the Tathagata at the beginning of the Bodhi mind; called Wisdom.
Five powers perfecting goodness
If the five faculties are accomplished, they will have five powers, called the Five Powers. These five forces are formed from the five senses, generate a force that promotes, grows, and maintains the spiritual life to attain liberation, they have the ability to destroy evil and promote good deeds.
Force, Sanskrit is Balāna, which means strength, capacity, motivation. The five forces are the force of faith, effort, mindfulness, concentration and wisdom (sometimes the five powers said by the Buddha are faith, effort, concentration, wisdom, and wisdom).
The five forces are defined by the Buddha as follows:
- Faith is the four indestructible and pure: The power comes from genuine belief in the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha and the Precepts.
- Effort is the Four Chiefs: The power is obtained from the effort to eliminate the evil and unwholesome dharmas that have arisen; prevent the evil unwholesome unborn, causing no birth; the Dharma has not yet been born, causing birth; the kusala dhammas have been born, making the residence not lost.
- Mindfulness power is the Four Foundations of Mindfulness: The power gained from the practice of contemplating the Four areas of mindfulness.
- The power of concentration is the Four jhānas: The power obtained from the attainment of the Four jhānas.
Wisdom is the Four Noble Truths: Power comes from seeing the Four Truths.
These five powers have great therapeutic potential, helping practitioners to overcome illness and get rid of all sufferings and afflictions in life.
Evil force is shame, shame towards evil, unwholesome dharmas, the afflictions that have arisen, will suffer the oppressive and painful retributions of birth, old age, sickness, death, grief, and suffering in the future life. .
Noble power is to be ashamed of shameful things, to be ashamed of evil, unwholesome dharmas, to have arisen afflictions, to suffer the oppressive retributions of birth, old age, sickness, death, grief, grief, suffering, brain in the future life.
The Buddha taught, if any bhikkhu changes or declines in regard to the good dharma, or does not stay for a long time, then other bhikkhus should use the five kinds of white dharma (five powers) to encourage them, saying:
“You have no penetrating faith in wholesome dharmas. If he is on faith, he can stay away from unwholesome dharmas and cultivate wholesome dharmas. He is not diligent, not tame, not precious; no wisdom penetrates the good dharma. If he is above wisdom, he can stay away from unwholesome dharmas and cultivate wholesome dharmas.”
In the case of any bhikkhu who does not change, does not recede, and stays for a long time with respect to the Dharma, other bhikkhus should use the five kinds of white Dharma to congratulate him. “What is the year? Have the right faith to penetrate the dharma. If he is on faith, he can stay away from unwholesome dharmas and cultivate wholesome dharmas. Effort, goodwill, preciousness, penetrating wisdom. If a person adheres to wisdom, he will be able to stay away from unwholesome dharmas and cultivate wholesome dharmas.”
The Buddha said: "If there are any bhikkhus, or do not want evil and unwholesome dharmas to arise, there is only faith in good dharmas. If faith is reduced, if you stay for a long time in a place of unbelief, unwholesome dharmas will be born again, etc., until if you wish for evil and unwholesome dharmas to no longer be born, only effort, good faith, preciousness, and wisdom will prevail. If effort, good faith, preciousness, and wisdom are reduced, and if they stay for a long time with evil wisdom, then evil and unwholesome dharmas will arise. If any bhikkhu is above faith, he will be able to stay away from unwholesome dharmas and cultivate wholesome dharmas. A person who adheres to diligent effort, conscientiousness, preciousness, and wisdom will be able to leave the evil and unwholesome dharmas and cultivate good dharmas” (The Ka-A-ham Sutra).END=NAMO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.8/6/2021.
