JĀTAKA PRIORITY STORY - JĀTAKA. (Predecessor Somadatta) Often memorized..., This story, when in Ky Vien, the Master told about Elder Laludngayi (foolish Udà). It is said that when in front of two or three people, he did not can say a word. He was so timid that he thought this and said that. The Male-stilts sat in the Dharma hall, discussing this matter of the Elder. The teacher came and asked: - The Male-stilts, what are you sitting in a meeting here discussing? When he heard the problem, the Master said: -The Male-stilts, it is not only now that Laludái is too shy. In the past, he was also like that. Then the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, when King Brahmadatta reigned in Ba-la-complaint, the Bodhisatta was born in a Brahmin family in the land of Kàsi. When he grew up, the Bodhisatta learned his trade in Takkasilà, then went home, learned of his parents' poverty, and decided: "I will rebuild the lost family". The Bodhisatta asked his parents' permission to go to Benares and become a servant of the king, loved by the king. At that time the Bodhisatta father was plowing the field with two cows, but one of them had just died. He went to the Bodhisatta and said: - Hey, my son, a cow has died and can't plow the field anymore. Ask the king for another ox. - Dear father, I just served the king not long ago. Now I beg the cow is not suitable. Father, please go. - My dear, you do not know that I am too shy. In front of two or three people, father could not say a word. If I go to the king and ask for an ox, in the end I will give the king this remaining ox. - Dear father, do not be angry with me. I can't ask the king, so I have to practice for you to ask. - Well then! Please practice for your father. The Bodhisatta took his father to a cemetery with fragrant grass, tied up a handful of grass, spread the grass here and there, and in turn showed his father: - This is the king, this is the viceroy, this is the general. And then the Bodhisatta said: - Dear father, when going to see the king, first remember to say: Long live the king, and read this verse, then ask for the cow. And the Bodhisatta taught his father to memorize this verse: Great King, I have Two oxen plowing the field, One of them has died, Chasperiya, Give me another cow! The Brahmin needed a year to memorize this verse, then said to the Bodhisattva: -My dear son! I have memorized these verses, I can say them to anyone. Bring me to the king. - Well done, dear father, So the Bodhisatta brought a suitable gift and brought him to see the king. The Brahmin said: - Long live Great King! And he offered the king a gift. King asked: - Hey Somadatta, What is a Brahmin to you? - Dear King, that is my father. - What did you come here for? At that time the Brahmin read a verse to ask for an ox: Great King, I have two cows plowing the field, One of them has died. O Shadi-di, Take that ox! King knew that the Brahmin said wrong, then laughed and said: - Hey Somadatta, it seems that there are many cows in your house? - My Lord, United Kingdom, if so, it is given by the United Kingdom. The king was satisfied with the bodhisattva's answer, immediately gave the brahmin sixteen oxen with jeweled straps, a village to live in, and ordered the father to be brought home with many solemn ceremonies. The brahmin climbed into a chariot pulled by an all-white Sindh horse and headed back to the village with a large retinue in splendor. The bodhisattva sat in the car with his father and said: - Dear father, I have taught you to memorize all year. When the time came, I gave the king a cow! Then the Bodhisatta recited the first verse: Always memorized, Never distracted. All five such schools, Study with bunches of fragrant grass, When standing in front of courtiers, Answer wrong meaning, Practice is not useful Because of little wisdom. Hearing this, the Brahmin read the second verse: Dear Somadata, What does he ask for, One between two things. Either get nothing, Or get property, that's what the Dharma asks. The Master said: - The Male-stilts, not only now Udayi is too shy. In the past, he was too shy to be like that. * After this Dharma talk, the Teacher identified the Forerunner: - At that time, Somadatta's father was Laludngayi, and Somadatta was Ta so. -ooOoo- 212. STORY OF SUPPLEMENTARY FOOD (Uchitthabhatta predecessor) On the head is different..., This story, when in Ky Vien, the Master told about his attachment to his ex-wife. That female-stilts was asked by the Master: - This Male-stilts, heard that he was infected with craving? He replied: - Yes indeed. - Who are you in love with? - I am in love with my ex-wife. The teacher said: - This female-stilts, this woman in the past has harmed him and made him eat the leftovers of his lover. Having said this, the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, when King Brahmadatta reigned in Ba-la-complaint, the Bodhisatta was born in the family of a poor acrobat who lived by begging. When he reached adulthood, the Bodhisattva was poor, needy, and begging for food to live. At that time, in the country of Kāsi, in a small village, the wife of a brahmin who had committed wrongdoings, following evil dharmas, often acted evilly. One day, because of some business, the brahmin went out, and the woman's lover was given the opportunity to sneak into the house. After having sex with that woman, he said: - I want to eat something and then I will go. She immediately prepared food, served rice, warmed soup and fed her lover, while I stood at the door watching her husband go home. At the place where the lover was eating, the Bodhisatta stood waiting to beg for food, and witnessed the story. When the brahmin finished his work, he returned home. The Brahmin woman saw her husband on her way home, and quickly went into the house and said: - Get up, the Brahmin is going on! The wife told her lover to hide in the storeroom, and welcomed the brahmin into the house. When the brahmin sat down, the wife prepared a seat, gave him water to wash his hands, and on top of the cold rice the other man had eaten, she added hot rice and invited him to eat. The brahmin put his hand on the rice, and seeing the rice below cool and hot, he thought, "This may be the leftover rice that someone else has already eaten." He immediately asked the brahmin woman with the first verse: The color on the top is different, The color below is different, I ask the female Brahma, Why is the bottom? on that? The Brahmin woman was afraid that her work would be revealed, but even though the Brahmin asked again and again, she remained silent. At that time, the acrobatic man was standing outside the door begging, thinking: "The man hiding in the storeroom must be the lover. This man must be the owner of the house. The brahmin woman is afraid of her actions. So let's show off the work of that brahmin woman and tell the brahmin the lover's hiding place in the storeroom." The Bo-sla looked out at the street and told the other person to hide in the storage room. The acrobat said this to the host and read the second verse. Dear Venerable One, I am an acrobat I have come here, Just to beg, The person hiding in the storehouse is the person the False Religion is looking for. The bodhisattva grabbed the bun of his enemy's hair, pulled him out of the storehouse, told him not to do such evil deeds again, and left. As for the brahmin, hit them both and taught them not to do such evil again. Then later he died and followed his career. * After this Dharma talk is finished, the Master explains the Truths. At the end of the lecture, that Male-stilts attained the fruit of Residency. And he identified the Forerunner: - At that time, the female Brahmin was the first wife, the Brahmin was the female-stilts infected with love, and the acrobat was Ta so. -ooOoo- 213. STORY OF KING BHARU (Bharu forerunner) I heard about King Bharu..., This story, while in Ky Vien, the Master told about King Kosala. At that time, the World-Honored One was reverently and respectfully bowed down to King Kosala, made offerings, and received abundant gifts such as alms food, food, medicine for treatment of diseases. The Bhikkhu-stilts are also made offerings. The non-Buddhist congregation saw that their benefits and reputation were reduced, so they met secretly, day and night discussing as follows: - Since the recluse Gotama appeared, our reputation and benefits have been reduced. The recluse Gotama enjoys the ultimate benefit and fame. Because of what predestined conditions, that Sa-Mon was so successful? One person in the assembly said: - The recluse Gotama has an ultimate and safest residence in Jambudvipa (India). Therefore, the recluse Gotama is benefited and respected. In order to benefit, we also build a pagan retreat next to Ky Vien, so we will be given many gifts. All come to the same conclusion. But then they thought, "If we don't inform the king about the construction of this temple, the bhikkhus will stop us. And if the king receives a gift, the king will not hesitate to destroy their abode. So we have to bribe the king, and we'll get a place as a retreat. They agreed to ask the courtiers to bring the king one hundred thousand dong and said: -Dear Great King, we want to make a pagan retreat next to Ky Vien. If the Male-stilts said to the Great King: We do not allow to do, the United Kingdom should not answer them. Because of his greed for bribes, the king accepted it. The pagan assembly, approved by the king, immediately invited an architect to begin construction work, and made a fuss. The Teacher asked: - Hey, Ànanda, what is this loud noise? - Bach, the outsiders are building a retreat next to Ky Vien. The noise rose from there. - This place, Ànanda, is not suitable for non-Buddhist retreats. The pagan factions like loud noises. Can't live with them. Having said that, The teacher gathered the group of Male-stilts together and said: - The Male-stilts, go and report to the king, ask the king to prevent the practice of foreign religion. The Bhikkhu-stilts came and stood at the gate of the palace. The king heard that the bhikkhus were coming, knew that they had come to prevent the construction of a pagan temple. But having accepted the bribe himself, the king told his servants to say that the king was not at home. The Male-stilts returned to the level of the Master. He knew that the king took bribes, so he did. He sent two great disciples out. The king heard the two great disciples coming, also told him to answer as before. Those two great disciples returned to the level of the Master. He said: - Hey, Sariputta, surely today the king is not in the house. Perhaps the king went out. The next morning, the Master put on his robe, took his bowl, and together with five hundred bhikkhus, went to the palace gate. When the king heard them coming, he came down from upstairs and took the Guru's bowl. The king offered rice porridge to the Sangha with the Buddha as the leader, and paying homage to the Teacher, then the king sat down to one side. The teacher began to lecture the king: -Dear Great King, the previous kings received bribes, thus causing a struggle between the virtuous, so they lost their country's sovereignty and encountered great tribulation. . Having said this, at the king's request, the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, in the country of Bharu, King Bharu ruled the country. At that time, the Bodhisatta was an ascetic, having attained five Perfect Wisdoms and eight Meditations, was the head teacher of an assembly, residing for a long time in the Tuyet Son area. Since it was necessary to use salt and vinegar, the Bodhisatta and five hundred ascetics from Snow Mountain in order went to Bharu. There the assembly finished their alms round, went out of the city, sat down near the north gate, under an eagle tree full of branches and leaves. They ate rice and stayed there. Now, when that group of ascetics had lived there for about half a month, another head monk of the assembly with five hundred ascetics went together for alms in the city, went out of the city, sat down at the south gate, under a similar tree stump. After eating and drinking, they also stayed there. Thus, the two assemblies of ascetics ate and drank there until they were satisfied, then went back to Tuyet Son. When the congregation left, the eagle tree at the south gate withered. The next time, those two congregations came again. Those who dwelt on the eagle tree at the south gate came first, and found their alder tree withered. After going for alms, they left the city to the base of the eagle tree at the north gate. After eating and drinking, they live there. The ascetics of the other assembly came later, finished their alms round in the city, went to their tree, sat down to eat and drink, and also wanted to stay there. They said: - This tree is not your tree. This is our tree. Thus, because of the tree they started arguing. The controversy turned into a big deal. Some of these ascetics said: - You are not allowed to take our place in the past. Some other Taoists said: - This time we came here first. You can't take this place. So we are the owners. And because of the stump problem, both congregations went to the palace. The king decided to let the Taoist assembly come to stay first as the owner of that tree. The other group said to each other: - Now we can't give up on these people. With their heavenly eyes, they looked around, saw a trunk worthy of being owned by a great king, immediately brought it to bribe the king and said: - Great King, make us the owner of the car. tree. The king accepted a bribe and decided that both congregations here were the owners. The other group of ascetics brought the silver wheels of the trunk, bribed the king and said: - Dear King, make us the sole owner. King did exactly that. Then the two assemblies of ascetics thought: "We, who have given up on the desire for possessions and the afflictive sensual pleasures, left home to practice, are now born to fight for the sake of a tree, and then take our possessions. bribe. It's not worth it." They repented, and hurried back to Tuyet Son. The deities residing in the whole of Bharu were unanimously indignant at King Bharu because he had caused the virtuous men to compete with each other, an inappropriate act. They immediately flooded the land of Bharu three hundred miles, so that the whole country was no more. Thus, just because of King Bharu, all the people in Bharu country perished. After telling the story of the past, the Master, in the name of the Fully Enlightened One, Say these verses: I hear King Bha-ru, As a Taoist struggling, Having himself in great tribulation, Together with the whole country, Thus because of that sin, the King went to perish. Therefore, the wise do not praise, the Desire conquers the heart, The one whose mind is not contaminated, Speaks all words of truth. When the teacher finished this Dharma talk, he said to the king: -Dear Great King, don't let the desire reign, making two monastic assemblies fight against each other is not a good thing. * Then the master identified the Forerunner: - At that time, I was the leader of the group of sages. When finished making offerings to the Tathagata, and the Master had left, the king sent someone to destroy the pagan retreat, leaving the non-Buddhist sects without abode. -ooOoo- 214. THE STORY OF THE RIVER (Punna-Nadi predecessor) What people say..., This story when in Ky Vien, the Master told about the wisdom of the Paramita. An era of the righteous path, The Male-stilts talk in relation to the wisdom of the Tathagata: - Dear sages, the Enlightened One has great wisdom, broad wisdom, wisdom, discernment, sharp wisdom, penetrating wisdom. thoroughly, and full facilities. The Teacher came and asked: - The Male-stilts, what are you meeting here discussing? When he heard the problem, the Master said: - The Male-stilts, not only now, but also in the past, the Tathagata had wisdom and skillful means. Having said this, the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, when King Brahmadatta reigned in Ba-la-complaint, the Bodhisatta was born in the family of the priestly advisor. When he was an adult, he went to study all the trades in Takkasilà. After his father's death, he received the position of priestly advisor to the king on sacred and secular affairs. After a while, the king listened to the detractors of his courtiers, indignantly not allowing the Bodhisattva to be near, and expel him from the city of Ba-la-complaint. The Bodhisatta took his wife and children away, and lived in a small village in Kàsi. After a while, the king recalled the bodhisattva's merits, thinking: "If I send a messenger to invite the chief monk back, that would not be appropriate. Let's make a verse, write it on a tree leaf, give it to us. cook crow meat, wrap both leaves and meat in white cloth, seal the king's seal and send it. If the elder monk is a wise man, after reading the leaf, and knowing that it is crow meat, he will come. , he will not come". So the king wrote this verse on a leaf: What do people say can drink the river's water? What do people say Covered by wheat? What do people say Travelers go far? That thing has now arrived, Eat it, brahmin! So the king wrote this verse on a leaf and sent it to the Bodhisattva. The bodhisattva read the letter and thought to himself: "The king wants to see me" and read the second verse: Because the king still remembers me, That's why I send it to crows, geese, cranes, and peacocks, the king will also send it, If the king doesn't send anything, that's a concern. The bodhisattva put the cow in the chariot and went to see the king. So the king was satisfied, and put the bodhisattva in the position of a priest as before. * The teacher finished this Dharma talk, immediately identified the Forerunner: - At that time, the king was Ànanda, and the priest himself was Ta. -ooOoo- 215. THE STORY OF THE WASHING (Kachapa's predecessor) The tortoise speaks..., This story, while in Ky Vien, the Master told about Kokālika. The story will be told in the Forerunner of Mahatakkàra (No. 481). At that time, the Master said: - The Male-stilts, not only now Kokalika new harm because of words. In the past, that person was also harmed. Then the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, when King Brahmadatta reigned in Ba-la-complaint, the Bodhisatta was born in the family of a great god, when he grew up, became the king's advisor on the sacred and worldly. But the king has a talkative nature. When the king speaks, do not give anyone a chance to interfere. And the bodhisattva wanted to prevent the king from talking too much, so he tried to find an opportunity. At that time, in the Tuyet Son area, a turtle lived in a lake. Two young wild geese went in search of prey and came to befriend the tortoise. Gradually, they became very close. One day the baby goose said to the tortoise: - Hey, turtle, our place is in Tuyet Son, on the Cittakuta mountain plateau, in a golden cave, a very beautiful place to live. Come with us! - How can I go? "We'll take you away, if you can keep your mouth shut and don't say a word." - Okay, I'll keep it. Take me away. They agreed, told the turtle to take a stick, and they bit into the ends of the stick, then flew into the air. The children in the village saw the turtle being carried away by the young wild geese. The tortoise wanted to say: If my friends take me away, what does that have to do with you, you bastards? Meanwhile, two wild geese flew quickly to about above the king's palace in the city of Benares. The tortoise had just released its stick about to speak, when it fell into the open yard and broke in two. Then there was a loud noise: - The turtle that fell on the empty yard was broken in two! The king brought the bodhisattva, together with the surrounding deities, went to that place, saw the turtle, asked the bodhisattva: - Wise man, why did this tortoise fall? The bodhisattva thought: "Waiting for a long time, I want to teach the king and am looking for a means. Now the time has come. This turtle must have made friends with the swans, they were taken to Tuyet Son. The king abandoned his talkative nature and became a man of few words. * After this Dharma talk, the Master identified the Forefather: - At that time, the tortoise was Kokālika, the two wild geese were the two famous Elders, the king was Ananda, and the wise great god was Ta. So. -ooOoo- 216. FISH STORY (Maccha's predecessor) Not because of this fire..., This story, while in Ky Vien, the Master told about a man who was in love with his ex-wife. The World-Honored One asked that Male-stilts: - Male-stilts, is it true that he is infected with love? Male-stilts replied: - White World Religion, it's true. The Master asked: - For whom? - The Blessed One, for the sake of his ex-wife. The Teacher said to him: - This Female-stilts, this woman has brought disaster for him. Once upon a time, because of this woman, he was nearly stabbed by a stake and was grilled over a fire for food. Thanks to the Wise Ones, his life was saved. Then the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, When King Brahmadatta reigned in Benares, the Bodhisatta was his priestly advisor. One day, the fishermen pulled up a fish caught in the net, and immediately threw the fish on the hot sand. They sharpened a stick and thought, "We'll grill this fish over hot coals and eat it." The fish thinks of the female, weeps, and recites these two verses: Not because of this fire, Not because of the sharp stick, Because the female fish doubts me Play with other fish! It was the fire of love that burned me! Torturing my mind. Please release me, Craving is not worthy of death! At that time the Bodhisatta went to the riverbank, heard the fish cry, went to the hunters and intervened to let them release the fish. * After this Dharma talk, the Master preaches the Truths. At the end of that lecture, the female-stilts infected with craving attained stream-entry. And He identified the Forerunner: - At that time, the female fish was the former wife, The female-stilts infected with craving are fish, and the priest-advisor is Ta. -ooOoo- 217. THE STORY OF THE VEGETABLE SELLER (Seggu's predecessor) The world loves pleasure..., This story, while in Ky Vien, the Master told about a male layman who sold vegetables and fruits. This story was told in Chapter One (No. 102). Here, the Master asked that male lay follower: - Hey, male layman, why haven't you come for a long time? - World-Honored One, my daughter often laughs. After testing it, I gave it to the son of a noble family. Because I have to do this, I have not had the opportunity to come to see you. Then the Teacher said to that male lay follower: -This male layman, not only now does your daughter have moral virtues. In the past, she also had virtue. It was not only now that he had challenged her. In the past, he had also tested her. Then, at the request of the male lay follower, the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, When King Brahmadatta reigned in Benares, the Bodhisatta became a tree deity. At that time, this male lay fruit and vegetable trader thought, "I will try my daughter". Then he took her into the woods, holding her hand as if he had a sinful desire for her. Then the layman recited the first verse with his lamenting daughter: The world loves pleasure, But my daughter is not well-informed With regard to lowliness. Are you still called a virgin now? Caught by me in the forest, Stop crying! Hearing that, the daughter said: - Dear father, I am still a girl! I don't know anything about lewdness. Then, while crying, she recited the second verse: He is worthy to protect me from sorrow and suffering, He is my father, He is evil again in the forest, With whom do I cry now, In the midst of the deserted mountains, He is worthy of respect. Protect me, You want to use strength again? So, The greengrocer had tested his daughter, took her home, and married her to a good boy. Later, he shared his life and followed his career. * When the Master finished this Dharma talk, he preached the Truths. At the end of the lecture, the fruit and vegetable seller Saved and He identified the Forerunner: - Now the father and daughter are the two present people, and the tree god who witnessed the story is Ta. -ooOoo- 218. THE STORY OF THE SCAM BUSINESS (Kùtavanija) A deceitful man..., This story, while in Ky Vien, the Master told about a fraudulent trader. There were two merchants in Savatthi, one a fraud and the other an honest man. These two people joined together, loaded up on five hundred carts with goods, moved from east to west, traded and reaped great profits, and then went back to Savatthi. The honest merchant said to the rogue merchant: - Sir, we will split the goods. The fraudulent merchant thought: "This person has been tired for a long time from lack of food and sleep. Now when he comes home, he will eat a variety of special delicacies, he will die because he can't digest it. Then all the goods will be sold. belongs to me". So he said: - Why is the weather not good today. The day is not good either. We'll figure it out tomorrow. He tried to find excuses to delay. But the honest people kept pushing, so they also divided the goods. Then he brought incense and garlands of flowers, went to make offerings to the Master, bowed down to him, and sat down to one side. The Master asked: - Since when did he come back? - Venerable Sir, I have been back for about half a month. He asked again: -Why are you slow to visit the Tathagata? He presented the above story. The Master said: - This male layperson, It's not just this guy who cheats like that. In the past, that person was also a scammer. Then at his request, the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, when King Brahmadatta reigned in Ba-la-complaint. The Bodhisattva was born into the family of a great god. When he reached adulthood, he was appointed as a magistrate. At that time, there were two merchants, one in the village and the other in the city. The people of the village gave the people of the city five hundred plowshares. The man in the city who sold the plowshares kept the money, and in the place where the plowshares were kept, he scattered rat droppings. After some time, the villager came and said: - Give me back the plowshares. The rogue merchant said: - Your plowshares have been eaten by rats! And he pointed to piles of rat droppings. The other said: - Oh! Mouses! We've already eaten, what else can we do? When he went to the bathroom, he took the rogue merchant's son, left him in a friend's house and told him not to go anywhere, just making him sit in his room. After taking a shower, he went to the rogue merchant's house. This person asked: - Where is my child? - Sir, I left your child on the riverbank. While I was diving in the water, a hawk came, grabbed your baby with its claws and flew into the air. I tried to hit the water, shouting loudly, but couldn't save it. - You lied the hawk can't take the child away! - Hey, that's the truth. Something that shouldn't have happened happens again, what can I do? Your child has been taken by a hawk! The other person scolded: - Oh, the cruel scammer! Oh killer! Now I will go to the judge and drag you there! Then he left. The village merchant said: - Do what you want. And he went to the court of law. The fraudulent merchant said to the Bodhisatta: - Great mandarin, this man took my son to take a bath. When I asked where my son was, he said he was taken by the hawk. Please handle this case for me. The Bodhisatta said to the other: - Hey man, please tell the truth. - Yes, sir, that's right. I took her son away, he was taken by hawks. That's the truth, sir. - But how in the world can a hawk let a child go? "My lord, I have a question to ask you: If the hawks can't catch the child and can't fly, how do the rats eat the plowshares?" - What do you want to say? "Your Honor, I have in this man's house five hundred plowshares. When I asked, he said the plowshares were eaten by rats. Then he showed me the dung of the rats that had eaten the plowshares. Your Excellency, if the rats can eat the plowshares, the hawks can also take away the children. If the mice can't eat it, the hawks won't be able to carry the baby. He said the rats ate the plowshares, please judge whether they can be eaten or not. Please handle this case for me. The Bodhisattva knew that he had devised a way to deal with the deceitful way of the other man, so he said: - What a wise thought! Then the Bodhisattva recited these two verses: A deceitful man overcomes a deceit, This is a good thought, Counterattacking a cheater, If he thinks that rats can eat plowshares, Why can't the hawks bring the child? There are swindlers, Scammers cheaters, There are cheaters cheat cheaters! Losing a child, give the plowshare to the lost. The one who lost the plowshare, Give back another man! Thus the one who lost his son received his son, and the one who lost the plowshare received the plowshare. And later, the two followed their karma when they were together. * After telling this Dharma talk, the Master identified the Forerunner: - The fraudulent merchant at that time and the person today are one, the honest merchant is also the present person. And the magistrate is I. -ooOoo- 219. CRITICAL STORY (Garahita's predecessor) Pure gold is mine..., This story, when in Ky Vien, the Master told about a rotten Male-stilts who lost diligence and did not rejoice. He cannot concentrate his thoughts on a single object, and lives with a mind that is always dissatisfied. The Sangha brought that stilt to the Teacher. He asked: - Is it true that he was rotten and diligent? He replied: -Indeed, because I am afflicted with afflictions! The Teacher said to that Male-stilts: -This Male-stilts, this affliction, in the past, was immediately despised by the animals. You have ordained in this Dharma, why did you lose your diligence, because you were dominated by the defilements that even animals despise? Having said this, the Master told the story of the past. * Once upon a time, when King Brahmadatta reigned in Ba-la-complaint, the Bodhisattva was born as a monkey king in the Tuyet Son area. The Bodhisatta was captured by a forest man and brought to the king. Living for a long time in the king's palace, fulfilling all his duties, the Bodhisattva clearly knows the work and lifestyle in the human world. The king was satisfied with the service of the monkey king, immediately called the forest worker and ordered the monkey queen to be released at the spot where it had been captured before. The jungler did exactly as he was commanded. When the monkeys learned that the Bodhisatta had returned, they visited, and assembled on a large rock. After greeting the Bodhisatta, they said: - Lord monkey, for such a long time, where do you live? - In the king's palace in Benares, the king used me as a monkey for entertainment and was satisfied with my service, so he released me. The monkeys asked: - Surely you know the way of human life. Please tell us. We want to hear that. - Don't ask me about the human way of life. - Speak, we want to hear. Bodhisattva said: - Humans, whether they are Sas-dily or Brahmins, all say: This is my property!. They do not understand the impermanence that causes all things to perish. Listen to the actions of those blind fools. Then the Bodhisatta read these verses: Pure gold is mine, precious gold is mine! Thus, day and night, They blaspheme, Those fools Don't look at the Dharma. In the house, there are two owners, An owner without a beard, Long breasts, braided hair, Two pierced ears, A harvest with a lot of money, Suffering everyone. Hearing this, they all said: - Don't talk, don't talk, we just heard something not worth hearing! They cover their ears with their hands. And they did not like the place because they said: - Here we have heard something not worthy of hearing! So they go elsewhere. The rock they sit on is called the criticized rock, they say. * When the Master finished his Dharma talk, he preached the Truths. At the end of that lecture, the Male-stilts attained the fruit of the Stream and he identified his predecessor: - At that time, the monkeys were the Buddha's assembly, and the monkey king was I. -ooOoo- 220. STORY DHAMMADHAJA (Predecessor Dhammadhaja) He lived peacefully..., This story, while in Truc Lam, the Master told about the plots to kill him, At that time the Master said : "Monks, not only now, but also in the past, Devadatta has plotted to kill me, but even to frighten me has failed. Having said this, the Master told the story of the past. * In the past, King Yasapani reigned in Ba-la-complaint, the king had a general named Kàlaka (Black man). At that time, the Bodhisatta was a priestly counselor named Dhammaddahaja (The Flag of the Dharma). The king had a barber and made hair ornaments for the king named Chattapànì (The one holding the umbrella). The king reigns according to the Dharma. But the general in charge of the trial often took bribes and slandered. When he took a bribe, he cheated and appropriated the property of the rightful owners. One day, a man who lost in a lawsuit, broke down in tears, when he came out of the courthouse, saw the Bodhisatta serving the king, immediately threw himself at the Bodhisatta's feet and said: - Sir, while he was teaching the king about sacred and secular affairs, the general Kàlaka took a bribe, causing the owners to lose their property. And he narrated his case. Bodhisattva moved with compassion and said: - Hey friend, follow me, I will handle the case for you. The bodhisattva led him to the dharma hall. A large number of people gathered. The bodhisattva handled the person's case, and caused the owner to get his property back. The crowd cheered. The cheers made a loud noise. The king heard the noise and asked: - What is that noise? - Your Majesty, a wrong-handled lawsuit was re-tried by the wise Dhammaaddhaja, so it was a noisy crowd cheered. The king agreed, asked to invite the Bodhisatta to come and ask: - Master Chief, I heard that the Master has just filed a lawsuit? - Yes, Your Majesty. I have just finished handling a case that General Kàlaka has wrongly handled. King said: - From now on, Chief, let's handle the lawsuits. My ears will be happy, and the world will prosper. The bodhisattva does not want to sue. But the king asked: - Out of compassion for all sentient beings, the Chief should sit and judge. So the Bodhisatta accepted. From then on, the Bodhisatta sat in court, and the rightful owner won the case. As for Kālaka, who did not receive a bribe, his benefits were lost, so he began to disparage the Bodhisatta in front of the king. He told the king: -Dear Great King, Dhammaddhaja wants to take his country. The king did not believe him and told him not to say such things again. Kàlaka said: -If the Great King does not believe in God, when Dhammaddhaja comes to serve, the King should look out the window, then the United Kingdom will see that Dhammaddhaja has made the whole city in his hands. The king saw the group of people being sued by the Bodhisatta and thought that it was the assembly of the Bodhisattva. The king doubted the Bodhisattva and asked: - Hey, general, what should we do now? - Lord, kill it. - We don't see him committing any serious crimes, how can we kill him? - There is a way. - What way? - Tell him to do the impossible. When he can't do it, I take the blame, and I'll kill him. But what can't be done? - Dear Great King, a garden with good soil, planted and cared for takes two to four years to bear fruit. United Kingdom please call it to come and say: "Tomorrow, I want to play in a garden. Please make me a garden". It won't be possible. We take that sin and we will kill it. The king invited the Bodhisattva to come and say: - Dear Wise One, I have come to play in the old garden for a long time. Now I want to come and play in a new garden. Build me a new garden. If you can't do that, you will lose your life. The bodhisattva knew: "Perhaps because Kàlaka did not receive a bribe, it turned the king against me." The Bodhisatta said to the king: -Dear Great King, I know that I will take care of it. Then going home, after the meal, the Bodhisatta lay on his bed thinking. At that time the throne of Shakyamuni (God Sakka) became hot. Shakyamuni Buddha directed his mind to think, knowing that the Bodhisatta was in trouble, he hurriedly appeared in his bedroom, stood in the air and asked: - Wise man, what are you thinking? - Who are you? - I am the God of Love. - The king told me to make a garden, so I thought about it. "Sage, don't worry, I will make you a garden like the forest of Nandana, like the forest of Cittalata in the heavenly world. Where will I work? - Do it there. After Shaking the garden, he went back to the city of gods. Tomorrow, Seeing the garden with his own eyes, the Bodhisatta went to tell the king: -Dear Great King, the garden has been completed for you, please go to entertainment. The king came and saw the garden surrounded by walls, eighteen elbows wide, red in color, with gates and porches, adorned with many trees laden with flowers and fruit! So the king said to Kalaka: - The wise have done as I said. Now what must we do? - Great King, if it can make a garden in the night, then why can't it plunder the kingdom? - What should we do now? - We can tell it to do something else it can't do. - What's the matter? - We told him to make a lake out of seven treasures. The king said: - Very well, And the king called for the Bodhisattva to come and say: - Master Chief, the Master has finished the garden. Master, make a seven-treasure pond to match this garden. If it is not possible, His life is no more. The Bodhisatta said: - Very well, Great King, maybe I can do it. Then Shakyamuni made a beautiful lake, with a hundred berths, a thousand bends, covered with lotuses of five colors, like the lake in the garden of Nandana in the heavenly world. The next day, the Bodhisatta saw the lake with his own eyes and informed the king: - Dear God, the lake has been completed for you. The king saw the lake and said to Kalaka: - Now what should we do? - Great King, tell him to make a house commensurate with the garden. The king said to the Bodhisatta: - Master, now let's make a house of ivory in proportion to this garden and lake! If you can't do it, your life will be over. And God likes to make a house just like that. The next day, the Bodhisatta saw the house with his own eyes and informed the king. The king saw that house and asked Kalaka: - What should we do now? Great King, tell him to make a pearl worthy of the house. The king said to the Bodhisattva: - Hey, wise man, make a pearl suitable for this ivory house. With the light of the pearl, I will go for a walk in the house. If you can't do it, you won't have any more lives. Then he liked to finish the pearl. The next day the Bodhisatta saw the pearl with his own eyes and immediately presented it to the king. The king asked Kalaka what to do, Kàlaka replied: - Great King, I think there is a certain god who has done the will of the Brahmin Dhammaddhaja, now tell him to do something that even the gods can do. Can not do it. The gods cannot make a man full of four virtues. Therefore, the Great King, please tell him to be a gardener full of four virtues. The King told the Bodhisattva: - Master, the Master has finished for us a garden, a lake, an ivory palace, a shining pearl. Now, please be a gardener full of four qualities to protect my garden. If you can't do it, you will lose your life. The bodhisattva replied: - Yes, if possible, I will take care of it. Then he went home. After a delicious meal, he lay down to rest. Early in the morning, he woke up and sat on the bed, thinking: "God, Emperor Shakyamuni has done what he can, but God can't make a man keep the garden full of four virtues. That's how it is, It is better to die alone in the forest than to die at the hands of others." So, without telling anyone, the Bodhisatta went down from the stairs, exited the city by the main gate, entered the forest, and sat under a tree contemplating good things. Emperor Shakyamuni knew about it, turned into a woodworker, went to the Bodhisatta and said: - Sir, Brahmin, you were brought up delicately, Why do you go to this forest to sit and do? To ask the meaning of this, the Emperor liked to read the first verse: He lived in peace, Why did he leave the water in the forest? Like a wretched man Alone under a tree, Sitting broodingly sad? Hearing this, the Bodhisatta recited the second verse: I live in peace, But I leave the water in the forest, Like a miserable man Lonely sitting at the root of a tree Contemplating the Holy Dharma. Then the Emperor said: -Dear Mr. Brahmin, things are like that, why do you sit in this place? - The king told me to be a gardener with all four qualities, and because I couldn't do such a person, I thought: Why would I die at the hands of others? I will go to the forest, and die alone there. That's why we come here. - Mr. Brahmin, I am the God of God, I have made the garden etc.. for him. I cannot be a person with all four virtues, but in the king's country there was a barber named Chattapani who was full of four virtues. If a gardener is required, recommend this barber as a gardener. Emperor Shakyamuni advised the Bodhisatta, comforted the Bodhisatta not to be afraid, and then went to the city of gods. The Bodhisatta returned home, had breakfast, and went to the palace gate, where he saw Chattapani. He took his hand and asked: - Dear Chattapaani, I heard that you have all four virtues, right? Chattapani said: - Who told you that I have all four virtues? - It's the God of God! - For what reason did the Emperor say that? The bodhisattva recounted all the stories and told the reason for it. He replied: - Yes, I have four virtues. The Bodhisattva immediately took Chattapani's hand and went to the king's audience and said: -Dear Great King, this Chattapani has all four virtues. If you need a gardener, the United Kingdom should tell this person to keep the garden. The king asked Chattapani: - Is it true that you are full of four virtues? - Yes, sir, Great King. - What four virtues does Khanh have? He reads this verse: I am not jealous, I also do not drink wine, I have no craving, Abiding without anger, Son of God, that's how I am. King asked: - Hey Chattapani, did you say: I am not jealous? - That's right, Your Highness. - What are the reasons why you are not jealous? - Your Majesty, listen here. Chattapani read this verse, expressing his non-enviousness: Once upon a time for a woman, As a king, I ordered the priest to be bound, But he taught me to abide in the Holy Dharma, So I am not jealous. Then the king asked Chattapani: - Hey Chattapani, by seeing what harm, you are a person who does not drink alcohol? Chattapani read this verse: Dear Great King, Once I was drunk, I ate the flesh of my own son, I was in pain and sorrow, Vows to give up drinking. Then the king asked: - Hey, you see, why do you no longer love infection? Chattapani expressed that reason with this verse: In the past, I was the Great King named Kyta-va-sa, my son broke the Buddha's Bowl of Pacce, And it must die. Therefore, no infection. The king continued to ask Chattapani: - For what reason, did you become a person who was not angry? Chattapani expresses that reason with this verse: I am Araka, Seven years of training in loving-kindness, Seven lives of Brahma, Therefore, do not get angry. When Chattapani had stated his four qualities, the king praised the Bodhisatta before the assembly. At that moment, the great gods, Brahmins, householders, etc. all stood up, and shouted: - Oh, food bribes! O wicked thief! You don't get bribes, so you speak ill of the wise and want to kill him. They captured Kàlaka, dragged him out of the king's palace, and grabbed anything, some with stones, some with sticks, they beat him to the head and died instantly. Then they grabbed him by the leg and dragged him away and threw the body on the dunghill. From then on, the king ruled the country strictly according to the law, then followed his karma at the end of his life. * After telling this Dharma talk, the Master identified the Forerunner: - At that time, General Kàlaka was Devadatta, the barber Chattapani was Sariputra, and Dhammaddaja was I. the barber Chattapani is Sariputra, and Dhammaddaja is Me. the barber Chattapani is Sariputra, and Dhammaddaja is Me.
