Muc Lien Lien in the Vu Lan Sutra.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.

Every year approaching the full moon of the seventh lunar month, Buddhas all over the country have the same wish to welcome Vu Lan's return. A great day brings joy to both the monastic and the home. Especially, the Buddhists at home are always eager to welcome this great day; so that the children and grandchildren will have the opportunity to repay the merit of nurturing the deceased birth, as well as fulfill the filial piety towards the present parents. Indeed, the full moon day of the seventh month is a day of many meanings: the day when the monks are self-sacrificing, congratulate them on the monkhood, so it is also called the Buddha's Day of Joy. According to Vietnamese folklore, that day is also called the day of amnesty for the dead; Because his deceased ancestors were super-demanded, based on the old tale through the filial piety of the false Religious Muc-kien-related.
Vu Lan is a familiar image in the mind of all Vietnamese people in particular and many Asian communities around the world in general. Vu Lan, a noun transcribed from the Sanskrit word "Ullambana", is also transcribed as O-lam-ba-noa, which translates as "reverse hypotenuse", which means to rescue people who are suspended. In other words, Ullambana means to rescue the souls who suffer a lot of suffering in hell, especially the Nine Commentaries that are quickly released. This event is presented in the Mahayana Buddhist scriptures through the good example of Muc Lien Lien with a child's filial piety towards his mother, creating an exemplary virtue from which generations of descendants. then follow.
Section Kien Lien (written in Sanskrit: Maudgalyāyana; Pali: Moggalāna, Chinese transcribed: Muc Lien, abbreviated as Muc Lien) is a historical figure living in the Buddha's time. This Brahmin of wisdom was famous for a while in the Magadha land of India at that time. Because he was not satisfied with the liberating knowledge source of the tradition he was following, he and the majority of his disciples came to the audience and asked to take refuge at the feet of Buddha Da; was accepted by the Buddha and considered the most divine disciple, along with the Venerable Xa Loi Phap who replaced the Buddha as all Buddha. If Sāriputta has the merit of leading them to enter the Dharma lineage, then Muc Khalien Lien is the one who fosters the wisdom of the Noble Truth, or in other words, the ultimate attainment of virtue. In the Nikāyas, the story of Lady Tsingtao saved by Muc Lien is not mentioned. His life and career teaching Dharma presented through the discourses in Nikaya is very realistic and vivid. Then the Muc Kien Lien in the Vu Lan Sutra, here, is presented and understood?
As often as we know, Venerable Muc Kien Lien after being ordained, practiced and attained enlightenment and became one of the few outstanding disciples of the Buddha. He has infinite divine powers, but not so that he forgets the filial piety of a son to his parents. One time, using insight into the four directions and eight directions, the fake Sun Muc Kien Lien found his mother (as Mrs. Thanh De) suffering in A-Pi prison, the body was thin, pale, only skin was left. bone wrap, excruciating pain. It is the result of greed, cruelty, and lies from the birth of the mother. Using his supernatural powers, the fake Religious Muc Kien Lien brought rice to his mother. But, because the karma is too big, the rice bowl Ms. Thanh De holds in her hand suddenly turns into red charcoal. Witnessing that scene, he was very heartbroken, returned to Buddha, hoping the Buddha would save him so that his mother would be saved. Touched by the filial piety of Venerable Muc Lien Lien, Buddha showed how he could save his mother from exile. The Buddha taught that, although he was immeasurable, he was more filial than anyone else. His heart moved the whole world, but his mother's crimes were too heavy, he could not save her alone. By the full moon day of the seventh month, the Buddhas rejoice, the self-sacrificing monks prepare their offerings, sincerely request the monks to take their vows so that your mother can transcend.
According to the Buddha's teaching, on the full moon day of the seventh month, Venerable Muc Kien Lien set up Vu Lan Association, inviting monks to come and pray. Thanks to that, Mrs. Thanh De was able to escape. The other spirits also gained through the blessings of the monks' aspirations, which were transcended.
Here, through the view of the Founder Master in the Dai Thai Thuc compiled in Chon Ly, he interpreted the meaning that the Vu Lan Sutras wanted to convey: Muc Kien Lien translated as Dai Thai Thuc and Muc Lien Represent the vast intellectuals.
So, the image of seeing the mother born in the way of the hungry ghost "is to see beings living in lust, in a hungry soul, ... beings like merchants, the ambition of hunger and thirst, which is not extreme, living by body, dying spiritually, bringing the soul deeply buried in the material underground of the four great hells, to suffer hunger, thirst, love to punish, in illusory and illusionary realm, impermanence changing slyly. " For sentient beings with such a lot of karma, the person who ordained with a spirit of compassion and compassion wants to share the happiness for human beings. So he immediately brought a bowl of rice to feed, "that is, bringing the Dharma of the Noble Eightfold Path to almsgiving, to end the hunger and suffering. Thanks to eating, you can use the precious ethics, but you can feel satisfied. Dhamma says that rice, Eightfold Path is like a bowl. "It is food as a medicine with nourishing value that has the ability to heal heart wounds that have been flooded with toxins for so long. If practiced, it will quickly be released from such suffering. He continued: “Then the mother accepted the rice bowl with her hand, her left hand covered the devil, her face picked up the rice and ate, she was content to listen to the dharma, held onions, while trying to prevent adversity, while frying food. practice, to let the mind be satisfied with results. But the rice turns into coal fire, which is the dharma that is very difficult to eat, cannot follow, because greed and evil are used to it, so watch out for almsgiving, patience, morality, meditation, like coal fire. , unable to be quiet, to preserve, to endure, not to regret it, so it is difficult to eat and use, it is difficult to practice according to the Buddha's teachings ... clinging, narrow selfishness, Having not studied and listened to the magic of the dharma, as a result, it is difficult to create a small human being in the spiritual field, it is difficult to open up to the stream of dharma water. But according to the view of the Jizō Sutra: "As long as there are sentient beings in hell, I vow not to become a Buddha" to express the spirit of taking "happiness for sentient beings for the purpose".
Muc Lien Lien saw that crying out loud means feeling compassion for the suffering of beings. There is no other way, so go back to the Buddha like that, which means that Dai Thai Thuc has been practicing for a long time, taking care of himself just finished and attaining Arahantship, then contemplating the suffering of sentient beings, which generate the Bodhisattva's mind to educate the world. Seeing sentient beings being used to suffering for a long time, it is difficult to practice spiritual practice, to enjoy the joy of religion, so he is very compassionate towards the white Buddha.
A detail for us to see that a person, after going home, finds a source of true happiness for himself; and not so selfish, bo bo. Then fulfill your mighty aspiration to enter life, selfless sacrifice with the aim of bringing a source of happiness to all share. Since then, he returned to the white Buddha, after receiving the instructions, the yogi practice, so invited the monks to gather and offer five-color fruit, hundred-food food, that is, he gave his mind to the monks, bring the ability to attain through their own learning experiences to share the teachings to all of them to increase after three months of pure harmony, practice of precepts, meditation, and wisdom all gathered, to examine and verify. The points for each other eliminate all the sin of each other. Every year the festival takes a shower, The ashram church is like a pond, the dharma is nectar. On that congress day, he gave the sermon to all monks, with five fruits, which is the sermon for all attained the five results: that is, Enter Save Results, Unrealistic Fruition, Immutable Fruit, Arhat Fruit and Bich Chi Dependent Origination. And after that, there were hundreds of dishes with all kinds of delicious flavors to offer, that is, after increasing them, they attained the Holy East results, that much more he gave more teachings, with all the wonderful methods, teachings, and means. All kinds of flavors, to encourage the request to increase them should generate the Bodhisattva mind, take another step up to practice the great contentment of all eternity. Thanks to the majesty of the majority increased, divided everywhere, using all kinds of wisdom methods, each person has the ability to skillfully use all kinds of wisdom so that sentient beings run out of greed, end suffering, liberation step by step to high, then in their hearts, they will enjoy the Dharma fullness and happiness again and again. Indeed, with that in mind, he helped the Buddha to create an Indian land more people who knew about taking refuge in the Three Jewels, namely Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha; Achieved pure results, turned society at that time as a present western paradise. That deed, that good example, is like a dharma, like an eloquent proclamation, like a beautiful path to later, if a practitioner raises the mind of great intellectual enthusiasm to study, attaining "the Dharma ", Achieving liberation mind and liberation wisdom; having wide eyes seeing sentient beings as mothers, living in the suffering of the three realms of suffering, prison, burning under the insecurity of suffering, giving them compassion to save them. That person must first practice ordained, cultivate to attain holy results, and have a clean mind. Next, you must educate the monks to attain the same attainment as you, then later will they practice the Bodhisattva, universalizing all beings. Thus, many merits will be attained, quickly attaining Tathagata into Buddha.
Like, the practice has not been completed, the virtue has not been reached, the wisdom has not yet been understood, the results have not yet been achieved, but it is shallow to develop a self-centeredness. Not cleverly leads to deceiving oneself, deceiving oneself, and bringing with them the sin of ignorance, wildness, confusion; and then do things for nothing. Being blind but demanding to be a guide is very dangerous and easily makes people lost in the pit. Therefore, Buddhism, despite the nature of showing compassion, must go from understanding, insight, not blindness, but aggressively do mess. Krishnamurti once said: "wherever there is love, there is compassion; and compassion has to have its wise side. That is the transcendent form of wisdom, but not private understanding of ideas, cunning wisdom, lies, deception and the like; but there is complete love and compassion and an intellectual transcendence which is not mechanical knowledge. " This angle shows that wisdom is the decisive challenge factor that needs to be achieved for every monastic practitioner who wants to make many great happiness in life.
The Guru is very focused on benefiting sentient beings. He relentlessly used all means to spread the Dharma: such as recording and recording, where he and his disciples encouraged all his relatives to gather for hearing ... He also practiced for his disciples to practice. Dhamma teaching. It shows that he pays great attention to propagating the dharma of beneficial birth. But the conditions of the lecture are set, the first lecturer must take the purpose of the theory is to transform suffering for sentient beings, to help them eliminate negativity, greed, anger and delusion. Meaning of the lecture must be full in terms of "the" and "reason" that two sides must be content. Do not place heavy on the side that "the" needs to show and "reason" needs to be explicit. This shows that the image of Muc Lien Lien depicted from the front and back of a dharma, bringing us from the simplicity to the magical depth, to absolute truth, truly of happiness. And this has followed the path of transformation to be paramount, the constant deft skill that leads them from evil to great evil; from small evil to small good; Small charity up to great good, then must know take refuge, take the five precepts, it is better to go high to the ordination, diligently cultivate the attainment of results and results for sentient beings. He does not have to focus on "the" but forget the unique inner meaning. The purpose is to make beings clearly see the way, so as not to cling to the "thing" that easily arises superstitious minds, and then frantically misunderstands; I only know to pray, plead, day and night just wait, do not know to self-reliant according to their designated method to find happy results for you. If Buddhists only consider them as appointed gods, revelation to earth for them; so unjustly for three generations of Buddhas According to the Buddhist Sutras presented Buddhism was born with the purpose of "enlightening sentient beings, enlightening the Buddha's knowledge", transferring the passion of enlightenment and bringing true happiness to them is the core matter. Buddhism is a religion with eyes, not a religion with closed eyes. Come to see but not believe it. Therefore, the thing is that the first monk must seriously cultivate to attain wisdom, the result of the enlightenment, grasp the magical wisdom that the Buddha has seen, each witness; and then bring it to convey the knowledge to all. As the old fervent vow of the Buddha taught his disciples: "Hey, monks, go away for happiness, for peace for life, for happiness and for bliss for gods and for mankind". Buddhism is a religion with eyes, not a religion with closed eyes. Come to see but not believe it. Therefore, the thing is that the first monk must seriously cultivate to attain wisdom, the result of the enlightenment, grasp the magical wisdom that the Buddha has seen, each witness; Then bring it to convey the knowledge to all. As the old fervent vow of the Buddha taught his disciples: "Hey, monks, go away for happiness, for the happiness of life, for happiness and happiness for gods and humans". Buddhism is a religion with eyes, not a religion with closed eyes. Come to see but not believe it. Therefore, the thing is that the first monk must seriously cultivate to attain wisdom, the results of the enlightenment, grasp the magical wisdom that the Buddha has ever seen, each witness; Then bring it to convey the knowledge to all. As the old fervent vow of the Buddha taught his disciples: "Hey, monks, go away for happiness, for the happiness of life, for happiness and happiness for gods and humans".
In a nutshell, through the Yulanpen Sutra, the Master gave us a more mature and correct view, a true view of Muc Lien Lien; until the teachings in the sutras too. For a long time, the Vu Lan Bon Sutra embodies the image of a child who is respectful to his mother, expressing the spirit of gratitude and gratitude to the one who gives birth to a unique example of filial filial piety, worthy of being an example. light for generations and descendants to follow. But in terms of liberation, it is a sign for the monk to see that: the monk lives the life of renouncing the family without a family and integrates into the Sangha community, into the realm of the West. Pole Lac, in peace and rest, is first to know to live alone; Forging myself to be a person who knows myself as true with true true knowledge. Once successful, you will be able to provide all with a loving and understanding mind. With those vivid, luminous images, mingled with the noble act of merit from the Sutra Yu Lan has manipulated very magical energy; has the function of guiding the way for many post-graduate studies, following which walking, following on the heels, creating a peaceful and prosperous world.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIME ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.1/9/2020.
