Interpretation of the Great Happiness / Good Sutras / Mangala Sutta.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
HAPPINESS: I
Asevanā ca bālānaṃ: Not close to the wicked
In this world there are many varieties of people, the only difference in color, customs, and voice, but in general it can be divided into two categories:
- Bālā: Is evil.
- Paṇḍita: is good knowledge.
Buddha taught sentient beings to learn to know evil people to stay away, because when we are close to evil people, it is impossible to run away from the retribution of suffering in the four evil paths.
So one should learn to understand the attitudes and manners of wicked people clearly to avoid them. First of all, we must know that evil people are no different from us in physical, physical form or physical appearance! The wicked are not just ruffians, plunderers, or poor, illiterate or sick; but sometimes they are noble, noble, educated, upper class people in social classes. Wicked people everywhere, all classes, classes, rich and poor, whatever stupid can have evil people. Wanting to know, identify and identify an evil person is not so easy.
+ In the Buddhist scriptures, there are two ways to recognize evil people:
1. The way of the intellectuals experienced, experienced in life - they understand the psychology of the wicked.
2. The way of the Enlightened One, he understood the mind of the wicked with wisdom.
Regardless of whether they are the Enlightened One or the intellectuals, these two ways all together teach the mentality of the wicked so that we can stay away, like science teaches us to know the sickness of the sick person and how to find ways. stay away from that disease.
So, I think we should learn to know clearly two ways to keep away from those wicked people.
First of all, please explain how to perceive the wicked according to the explanation of the intellectuals.
Here I would like to recall the ancient precursor of Buddha Shakyamuni in the collection of Tales of Life story for you to easily realize:
"- In the past, there was a fake in the city of Ba-la-complaint (Bārāṇasī) named Akitta. After his parents passed away, he realized that life is impermanent, suffering from suffering and selflessness; When the three inches is over, everything in life, even yourself, cannot be carried. Because of that, he gave all his possessions and possessions - I do not know how many of them - and became a Taoist in the deep snow forest.
The monk Akitta practices according to vivacious conduct, eating only leaves and fallen fruit nearby. Such noble practice of the Taoist made the stone of Emperor Thich's throne hot. Then the new Emperor appeared and said to him:
- White Taoist, I am clean with your virtue. So I came down here and promised to him that: What do you wish for, what your aspirations are, I will please help you achieve your wish!
The Taoist Akitta replied:
- Lord God! His promises are precious, but the desire of martyrdom is not difficult.
- I know - Thien Vuong said - Taoism has a pleasant and simple life; Is his aspiration similar to this tree leaf or this fallen fruit?
The Taoist said:
- Lord Lord King! Now leaves and fruit are still there, the apostle did not wish for it! If the king has compassion, then give a happy dharma to poverty ...
The Emperor Thich said:
- The Taoist kept saying, there's no need to be reserved! Just sincerely wish anything, such as medicine, clothes ... for example - I willingly obey his commands ...
The Taoist shook his head:
- Is not! I don't need those.
Emperor Thich asked impatiently:
- So what do you need?
The Taoist Akitta slowly:
- The most necessary thing is "Please do not meet evil people, never do anything with evil people involved".
Emperor Thich asked carefully again:
- So, your request is never want to meet wicked people! Does that also mean that, even if the news of the wicked does not want to hear about it?
The Taoist nodded:
- It must be true!
Emperor Thich asked curiously:
- White Taoist! May you tell me, what evil people have done to you in the past, so that you must be so afraid?
The Taoist replied:
- Come on, my lord! Don't make me repeat the past of the wicked! But I can briefly say the actions of the wicked are:
* Wicked people constantly invite others to do wrong things.
* Wicked people do things that are not theirs.
* Wicked people often misconceptions, wrongdoing is right!
* The wicked, even though we speak the truth, the word or the right, it is also incorrectly perceived, even angry, resentful, hostile.
* Wicked people do not obey the laws or laws of a place, country, or nation.
Your Majesty, considering that wicked people often have such bad things, stay close to them, meet them, hear news of them, I don't want to, all wish to stay away! So, with the might of God, please allow me to fulfill that wish! "
The story ends equally, but we probably all know that, even with the mighty power of God, he could not satisfy the noble, supreme aspiration of the Popular. born!
+ Below I would like to award 5 kinds of actions of evil people according to the concept of that Taoist.
1- Anayaṃ nayati dummedho [i] : The wicked like to invite, incite others to do evil, that is, the wicked constantly invite others to do bad things, wrong ones.
When we want to know whether a person is good or evil, we should pay close attention to what he or she urges us to do or to do; But is it good or bad, good or bad?
We should not forget that: Wicked people always have a very unusual intention, to make others suffer. As we know, not all wicked people are the things that I call thugs, gangsters; on the contrary, when the wicked are the ones we think are the intellectuals, the rich, the honored; and also when we believe, reverently consider them as the main spiritual practitioners, great virtues worthy of our worship, or we consider them to be the compassionate link of the benevolent virtue. To sacrifice sentient beings. Therefore, we should not be skeptical or thoughtless, but we must use wisdom to make a false judgment - as below:
“- Mr. De-Bà-attain-multi was a disciple of the Buddha, who at that time mistook him for a dignified virtue; But in fact he was a very wicked man, seduced and incited King Arahant to believe in him - for he was a monk carrying the flag of the Buddha. Moreover, the king, despite having a lot of faith but lacking in intelligence - was instigated by De-Madam to commit a serious crime of killing his father.
2- Adhirāyaṃ niyuñjati: Evil people often do things that are not their duties, which is their responsibility.
This means that the wicked often interfere with the work of others, be with themselves or with others, only to make people angry, uncomfortable, and painful. In order to avoid such harmful interference, when we are doing something smoothly and someone else intervenes, suggesting this, planning something, we should be careful, think carefully, do not rush to believe. assume that he is goodwill towards me, helping us.
By the way I would like to tell a story for you to ponder:
“- There is a rich man, the land is flying straight, his business is very prosperous, coming up - thanks to his tenants and employees to him wholeheartedly. That man had raised a pack of ferocious dogs to keep the house.
Suddenly, later on, his income became less and less noticeable. He was amazed, because the number of fields and employees were the same, and no one was in short supply or indebted. There was nothing wrong with the housekeeper, he asked. Investigating forever without an excuse, he asked his herder of cattle, and only then did it break out that: Whatever, that is why they are sick, thin, and weak, so they don't have the strength to plow the fields or pull their wagons! That's why the income is reduced!
Knowing that, the rich man brought the dogs to rest - from then on his farm income would return to normal ”.
Through that story, we see that the dogs did not do their house-keeping duties but went to do things outside of their duties, so they brought harm to their owners like that.
One more point, though a bit naive, also suggests a lesson related to the topic:
"- There is a gardener of King Ba-la-complaint (Bārāṇasī), he planned to go see the ceremony, then called his assistant again and said:
- I intend to go to the ceremony for a few days, so you stay home to take care of the garden, water the plants, do not forget to listen.
When the gardener finished, the assistant called the members of the group, saying:
- The gardener is really good to me. So let him water the tree, but before we water, we need to uproot all the trees to see how deeply they eat the roots, so that they can fit it well.
All the others obeyed, doing exactly as the teachings were told. The uprooted trees all withered and died.
The Bodhisattva, the forerunner of Buddha Shakyamuni, heard this, he said: "Fools who do not understand their work, must think that working outside their permission should bring harm to yourself and for others ”.
Then he read the verse which means : Even though the foolish man who tries to do good to find happiness does not work, but is as damaged as the gardeners.
3- Dunnayo seyyaso hoti: Wicked people often perceive wrong, wrongdoing is right.
According to this Pāi sentence, we see that this perception has two related, related things: Misperception and wrong action - both originate in the mind is like the wrong thing.
Originally, evil people often liked evil and evil things such as bullying, robbery and assaulting others. Everyone sees these things as disgusting, obnoxious. But the wicked, on the other hand, for them to be heroic gestures, to be good, to be good - so sometimes boast and boast of those evil deeds.
+ Wicked people often have three characteristics that we can easily perceive:
a- Wicked people like to harass.
b- Do evil by himself, but cannot repent, but delight and show off to others.
c- Seeing other people doing evil is very interesting and when listening to others doing evil like me, I like it even more.
These wicked people always hate the honest people, consider the honest people their opponents, even though the honest people are afraid of them and often yield to them in all things, every time, every time.
4- Sammāvutto pi kuppati: Wicked people, even though we speak honestly or truthfully, they are also angry.
Psychology of wicked people, according to this sentence, is easy to understand without having to solve many problems. Already wicked, they never accepted the righteousness, or the sincerity of others to them. Even though the person who spoke the truth with compassion, or the one who said it was the ancestor, father, mother, relative or husband and wife - they never listened.
They do not accept the truth, do not submit to good.
5- Vinayaṃ so na jānāti: The wicked do not act according to the law or the law.
The wicked never act according to the laws, laws of the nation or any religion, but only know how to do their evil nature.
The laws of a village or the laws of a country often guarantee some happiness for people - because the law protects the individual's interests, prevents one from harming others.
The wicked, who are not subjected to that law or law, just want to go out into the open to satisfy their malice and cause harm to others.
The five things mentioned above, the wicked are described according to the judgment of the intellectual, and below, the Buddha analyzes the wicked according to his wisdom.
In the Tripitaka, the Buddha taught that in the passage
Uparipaññāsaka - the Bālapaṇḍitasutta sutta that: Behold the monks! Wicked people have three distinct attitudes:
1. Duccintācinti: Evil thinking
2. Dubbhāsitabhāsī: Say evil words
3. Dukkataṃ kārī: Doing evil.
In other words, according to the Buddha's teaching, the attitude of the wicked is evil thinking, evil speaking, and evil actions; that is, body, speech, and mind are evil.
What is called evil thought? Saying evil? Do evil?
The commentary in the sutras teaches that:
* Evil thoughts: There are three things that are excessive greed, plotting to harm others, hatred and wrong views; is not believing karma, cause and effect and samsara.
* Wicked words are: Lying, stabbing, cursing, scolding, sarcasm, saying useless words.
* Making evil: killing, stealing, adultery. These three actions are sometimes hidden in the mind of beings, sometimes discovered outside; So in the commentary 38 happy things, these three attitudes are divided into two categories:
a. External evil: In the world, this external evil can be classified into two types:
- Aṅdhabāla [ii] : Cruel , that is, these people are very ferocious, causing people to fear like plague, they can kill by any means, either by force, or by design, as long as harm new people are pleased. These people have committed all kinds of evil, they do not avoid one thing, do not subtract one sin but do not!
- Kalyāṇabāla [iii] : The wicked, but they still have good points, that means sometimes they also do good, or help the poor, sick ... Because of their superficiality, they do evil, but at some point, they are repent, although no one taught. Thus, these people have a day to take care of spiritual practice, not completely following the evil cross.
b. Evil inside: The evil in my heart. Also implies that the evil in the hearts of beings has not completely eliminated defilements. It is the 26 evil of the mind, which is 14 akusalacetasikā and 12 akusalacitta ( akusalacitta) [iv] .
The aforementioned malignancies have different wicked characteristics, making the good mind overshadowed and weakened, unable to discern right and wrong, so the mind is everlasting or sleepy. Although the mind is not really evil, it is also not good, not taking meditation, giving alms [v] .
+ Three evil cases above will bring beings 08 harms in this life and in the future:
1. Losing the benefits of this life and future as well as with someone close to you.
2. My body, speech and mind were clouded.
3. Make the name worse or obscure day by day, in society no one will mention it.
4. Intellectuals and everyone is disgusted like a dirty item.
5. Everyone tries to stay away from being close or scared, like fear of a disaster; In terms of warfare now, fear a slow bomb.
6. Wicked people are not wise to judge the right and wrong, the mind does not have peace.
7. The wicked make the reputation of the relatives obscured or deleted by the world.
8. After death, the wicked are born in the four evil ways.
+ So, in order to benefit, we must follow the following 06 things:
1. Don't come near the wicked
2. Don't sit near the wicked.
3. Don't listen to the wicked.
4. Don't play with evil people.
5. Try to get as far away from the wicked as possible.
6. Intentional care about gender, almsgiving, meditation.
+ Those who are not close to the wicked will receive 12 good retribution:
1. The person who is not close to the wicked is the one who is blessed with happiness.
2. People who do not play with wicked people are those who walk on the right path.
3. People who do not play with the wicked have cultivated morality, concentration, and wisdom.
4. The person who is not close to the wicked has gone by the law school, the law and the law.
5. The person who does not play with the wicked does not cut off his past, present and future interests. That is: To be friendly with the wicked is to make up for their own mistakes, disasters, sometimes to sin; if you do not do good, the fruit that you have from a previous life cannot pay back. For example, King A-so-so was close to De-Ba-da-da to let him kill his father, harm the Buddha, commit the five sinful crimes, so he could not attain results, even though the king had good conditions. from a previous life.
6. The person who does not play with the wicked is someone who is in good faith.
7. People who do not play with wicked people are those who are praised by good intellectuals.
8. People who do not play with the wicked will always benefit
9. People who do not play with wicked people are loved by morals and intellectuals.
10. The person who does not play with the wicked does not go into the sinful way.
11. Those who do not play with wicked people will be born into heaven
12. People who do not play with evil people, happiness comes to them every day, not afraid of any calamity caused by evil people.
Here, I would like to remind you of a few old stories in Suggestions, so that I can learn the Buddha's teachings on how close to evil people are, how good people will be.
The Story of the Bird
“- In the past, on a hill near Tuyet Lanh forest, there were two cubs in a safe. One day, due to a storm, the safe was lost in one place. One fell into the residence of the Taoists, the other fell into the village of bandits. Both birds were brought up kindly by two places.
The day before yesterday, the king of Pañcala named Pacala went hunting, because he was lost, so he lay down for lunch under a tree on the bank of a stream near the village of bandits. The robbers' safe saw the king of gold and jade jewelry, just called the robbers and said:
- Let's go to kill the other person to rob!
The king heard awe, hurriedly fled. He went astray again into the residence of the priests. The Taoist safe saw the new king say:
- Man, from far away, you must be very tired, please invite you to sit and rest, this is a good land with nothing to fear.
The king cleansed himself with the safe and thought to himself:
- The same species of safari together, one with the bandits is cruel, scary; And the children who live with the monk are honest and honest, how lovely! "
This story shows us that, although they are beasts, they are influenced by evil and goodness of humans. Then how can people escape the influence of evil and good when living together between the world.
Mango Tree Story
“- In the past, King Dadhivāhana took a bath in the river, after telling his soldiers to spread nets around that place to prevent accidents. Meanwhile, a ripe fruit floated from the forest of Tuyet Lanh, caught in a net, and was picked up by the servants and offered it to the king. He saw a new fruit and called all the woodcutters to ask what was fruit. They said that it was a mango, a fruit with a sweet taste and fragrance. The king ate it and felt that the mango had a rare and delicious taste! He just took the seeds and planted them in heaven and taught them to take good care and especially water with fresh milk. Three years later, the mango tree gave birth to its fruit and smelled good. The king gave gifts to his neighbors to show off the precious fruits of his land; But before giving the gifts, he taught to pierce the seedling of the mango with a sharp stick. So the kings of the kingdom took the seeds and planted them but did not sprout,
The next time, when he was given the mango, the other king immediately took the seed of the mango to find out the reason that the seed in the seed was already damaged. The king understood the evil intentions of King Dadhivāhana, immediately thought of a poison, and sent a trusted gardener to ask for the gardening of King Dadhivāhana.
The gardener came to King Dadhivāhana, saying:
- Tâu Hoàng Thượng, his Majesty is a specialist in growing plants and flowers. He has worked in many places and served for many kings. Everyone is satisfied. Today, Your Majesty comes here to ask for your service.
The king was pleased and accepted.
When he was in work, he brought the divine power planted at the base of the mango and planted a melancholy tree somewhere nearby. When he saw the magic tree crawling on the mango tree trunk, the melancholy tree did not grow up to intersect with the mango tree - the gardener knew himself that he had completed his destructive duty, so quickly fled.
One day, King Dadhivāhana came to the garden, commanded him to break mangoes for him to use. Strangely how, the color of the mango is no longer golden and juicy; and the mango taste turned bitter again, not as sweet as before. The new king asked the master nearby that:
- Gentlemen, why this season the mango becomes bitter, the color is not as beautiful as before?
The national monk - which is a position - carefully observes the mango tree, from the root to the top, reveals the incident, sees clearly the reason, says:
- Tâu Đại Vương, this mango tree was previously thoughtfully cultivated, watered with fresh milk, now it is bitterly mixed together with the nerve and the melancholy tree, making the tree lose the mango flavor.
Finished, the new master recited the verse that:
"- Vaṇṇagandharasupeto
Amdayaṃ ahuva puri
Tameve pujaṃ labhamāno
Kehamb kutukapphalo
Pucinanda parivara
Ambote dadivāhanaṃ
Mulaṃ mulenasanlatthaṃ
Sākhāsākhaṃ nisevare
Asatasannivāsene
Tenambo katukapphalo ”(?) [Vi]
Meaning: This mango tree used to have color, smell, taste - beautiful, fragrant, and delicious - thanks to being cared for. But what is the situation now? Tau Hoang Thuong! His mango tree was shared with melancholy and miraculous trees, roots and roots intermingled, branches and branches intersecting. Because his mango grows in harmony with divine powers and melancholy, his mango no longer tastes sweet, but becomes bitterly unpleasant. "
This product shows us that: Mixed closeness has such an effect.
If you live with good people, you will be happy, living with evil people must suffer, as the Vietnamese proverb: "Near the ink, it is black, near the lights, it will be bright". Or: "It's round in pots, long in tubes!"
The mango tree is inanimate, but also affected like that. So we should take that as an example, to love ourselves, and to keep away from the wicked, even though he is a relative and a relative.
We often fear the wicked more than we love us, so we tend to follow the wicked to plunge into the path of alcohol, gambling, and prostitution - damaged, lost, but also created more negative karma. Don't be foolish to be instigated by others! Do not think, if you do not follow them, then fear they are sad! Do not be afraid that people laugh at me that I do not know how to be social, do not know how to play with friends! That's very dangerous! Hell fire!END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.15/9/2020.
