Compassion and Patience

Today, we would like to invite you to attend the ceremony of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara and general pink roses of the temple, so I will lecture on the subject of German compassion and patience. Because Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara symbolizes the compassion of Buddhism.

Compassion and patience are the two most important religious practices of Buddhists as well as the renunciation. Compassion is happy, suffering. The compassionate person is the one who loves all beings equally. Love all people should bring all the heart of their strength to make everyone happy, suffering, so called joy, suffering.

In life there is no suffering, or more or less. The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas love us all so that they teach us to practice. So compassion is the essential virtue in Buddhism. Next is patience. Because there is compassion without patience, never can be compassionate behavior. Patience is always on the side of compassion, can not be separated, so I teach compassion and patience.

In the French Buddhist teachings, want to enter the house as Lai must have compassion, want to wear the same as Lai must be insulting. In short, want to enter the Buddha, dressed in Buddhism must practice compassion and patience. If there is no compassion, there is no patience can not enter the Buddha, wearing the Buddha. Buddhists who lack compassion are not Buddhists. This is a problem that Buddhists need to understand.

Compassion in the sense of saving the joy of happiness, you Buddhists feel difficult to understand. To be closer and understandable, I can say compassion is love for everyone, not for me. We all have love, but love for ourselves more for everyone. For example, we go late car or late, there is a kind person invited to drink water, eat rice to wait for the boat, the next bus. They are very good so we say that person is so cute. Because they are good to me so I say cute. If he is bad with himself then I do not love. So to see our love with the ego. That love is not called compassion. When we see the lemur, ugly, not polite, hunger that we still love. We give rice bowls, bread rolls, though they do not thank us but we are still happy. It is the love of compassion, see the suffering people love, I help without repaying.

As Buddhists know the Buddha, Buddhist should expand the love. Who is suffering, who we are hungry, we do not love, not for self, do not wait for help, I love you. That is the love of compassion. Because I'm not compassionate. To understand thoroughly, do not love this person, love the other then give it is compassion is not possible. Because compassion is so important so Buddhists step into the right path to expand the compassion of people. That is the concentration of compassion. Having compassion, then we can improve. There is no compassion we can not progress on the path.

Why compassion must go with patience? As in the world there is filial son, love parents but poor family do not eat enough. Now the director of a factory admitted, in the factory he was apoplectic, rebuked many things, touched the narcissism.But because of poor parental love should still endure, longsuffering to make money to feed their parents. Therefore be hidden rings, hardships, shame, do not dare to quit.

Such love gives us endurance, patience. That is called patience. If we do not love parents, when the scene is scolded, scorned silver scamper, need something to do, this place is not looking elsewhere. But because parents love to bear all the trouble, offensive. It is because of love that must be patient.

Another example is, as the woman meets the husband, but has had two or three children. The husband should be divorced, he should have been divorced, but because of love, fear of the children are not enough parents, school drop out, etc. ... Love the child but tolerate the violence of her husband. That is because of the love that has to endure. In the former case, the child is tasteless, because of his parents, who suffer from difficulties and despise. In the case after the love of children without leaving the person who has tortured him, bear everything, etc. Know, thanks to love one can tolerate the hard. Without love, it is unlikely that human beings will be able to overcome the hardships.

Living in our lives we want to do good, good things but sure to be praised. So we want to do good things to help people, then before we have to learn to have strong compassion for everyone. It is compassion. Be patient, endure the difficulties.

We should not be misunderstood. Patience is a bad thing, in the opinion of many people, the ring must be humiliated. I do not think so. Patience is a strength, not a weakness. The world often said that people do things scolded, rebuked but still try to bear the weak, weak, because they dare not resist, sometimes also stupid. But Buddhism is not so. Buddhism teaches patience as a power.  If we notice that in the old pagoda often write the sentence of the Great Power, ie the treasures worship the Great Hung. The Buddha is a great hero, but he beat anyone who honors is a great hero?

In the Dhammapada business, the Buddha taught this:

Winning ten thousand is not equal to victory
I am the most successful victorious

This means that the person who wins is called the hero. Winning the enemy outside is not the hero. So is patience the easiest or the hardest? Being insulted, insulting me, insulting, scolding is easy or patience is easy? It's easy to ignore it.Do not say that the adults, the children when bullied it angry is easy or silent? So when the wrong idea, angry children do not do, but patience, adults sometimes do not work anymore.  Then know which is difficult! It is difficult to do so called Dai Hung. The Buddha was called the Great Hero because he was able to tolerate the difficult things.

In the recital, once the Buddha on the road, a teacher Ba-la-choreography hinted after the curse, but the Buddha went leisurely. He stopped asking too:

- Mr. Gay! Are you deaf?

Buddha replied:

- Are not.

- Are not you deaf hear me scolded without response?

- I'm not deaf. His scolding has nothing to do with me.

Buddha said for example:

- As his family had invited his relatives to attend. When they were about to arrive, he wrapped the gift box. Those who do not receive then the gift to whom?

Mr. Ba-la-subjects said:

- If they do not receive, then the gift to me not to anyone.

Buddha said:

Also, you swear at me that I did not receive the words that scolded him to send back to him.

People think that fast is losing, but in this case, the Buddha lost? Swear to Him that He does not resist, the consequences come back to the curse. We rehearsed when we were cursed that we quietly silent not say anything then eventually someone more instant. Was the person being spied or spied on? So think that the more you lose, the more you think the more you sink into the defilement. It's like the fire that burns more oil. There is an angry side, a silent side, no challenge each other, there is nothing to fight to lead to great harm. It is very important to be patient. He who endures forbearance is able to do great things, and the unbeliever can not do anything. So we want to do good or good things must have strong patience, so the new success.

We all know the story Quan Am Market. I summarize the point or special of Ms. Quan Yin Glass. According to Chinese history, she belonged to a well-to-do family. Her husband was a studious student. Both families also patronize the opposite. One day the husband tired school study should sleep. She saw the beard growing upside-down, and pulled her beard away. But when he brought the scissors into contact, he jerked his hand and said, "Assassinate me." He yelled, so the whole family believed, saying she was going to drag her husband.

Is that unfair? Because he sleeps unconscious dreaming should be touched skin immediately startled panic, see her holding scissors screaming said his wife assassinated. No matter what you say, no one will believe it. Eventually the husband's family turned over her to her parents, for she was a bride. Her parents did not know what to say, so I took her back. Come home, she thought the humiliation of being the obituary now that her husband killed her, but do not know how to clear the wrong. So she was going to practice not to bring scandal to her parents.

In ancient China, there were no women, only men. Should go to her grandmother to pseudo-boys. When the monk was admitted to the temple, but because of the beauty of her son should be beautiful. Therefore, Thi Thanh, a son of a rich man often visit the temple. Thi Thanh has a bad heart so later close to the servants of the family, she was pregnant and poured injustice for the director, her legal name. The incident in front of the village asked for her to the road to ask. She answered nothing but no one believed. Although being tortured beaten can not stand but she still endured, do not disclose her as a woman to whitewash. Finally, the village invited the monk to return her to the pagoda raised again. Thus, she found her extraordinary endurance.

When returning to the temple, the monk did not know what to do with the other grandmother before. She was not in the temple but in the hallway. In the aftermath of the birth of her son, she took the baby to the temple and said to her, "Your son I give you now."

We see clearly that nothing has happened now that such an extent. She took courage to adopt the baby, because she thought that although many practitioners elaborately without compassion, it is not worth it. Because beings, to save a human life so she accept all humiliation, all penalties. So in this verse Quan Am Thi Kinh has this sentence:

Although built nine grades,
It is not a blessing for a person.

The plan is the tower, this sentence says whether the tower is nine floors, not by saving a human life. Thought so she hugged small children raised. This made the Most Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, if not her children, to receive the adoption. Living under the circumstances she still quietly endured. Every day he took the baby in the village to feed milk, bear all the contempt and denial of the galaxy. She patiently raised the baby. The time of humiliation is unknown. A child has no blood relation but because of compassion to save a life, not to let it die should she suffer humiliation, all kinds of evil. By the time the baby was born, from then on she was quietly practicing, and by the time the dying person discovered she was a woman she had attained enlightenment. Later people often called Quan Am Thi.

That is to say, in general, I now stress the patience of her patience for us to practice.

First, she rings when her husband slander. The accident was unjustified that. If the person does not have the courage, being unfaithful can commit suicide. People often assume suicide is the liver, but I say the opposite, suicide is not courageous. Because of shame endured can not stand, not enough ring should suicide, if enough ring is not suicide. She did not commit suicide but lived and cultivated. That is a great patience.

Secondly, when the monks were taunted is associated with Thi Thuong pregnant. That's ridiculous because she's a woman. If you want to be very clear, just say I'm female, everything is smooth. But because of wanting to continue to practice, she did not want to reveal her identity as a woman, so she received torture, beatings, and investigations.

Case before the ring to be alive and cultivate. The second case, because of the practice, is suffering. And to the last stage of compassion the baby was born without parenting. Fear it dead should be adopted, humiliated, not a day but a few decades. It is because of compassion that she has such extraordinary patience. Having overcome that endurance she successfully accomplished Bodhisattva. We find compassion, patience beyond all ordinary people. Thus accomplished Bodhisattva happiness. We now honor her as the Guan Yin Buddha.

Thus, the bearer is strong, has an extraordinary power. So we want to come to the place requires us to have two sides, both compassion and patience. Compassionate enough patience, we are new to progress, new success. Only compassion but lack of patience is difficult to succeed. For example, we see the poor want to help but they do not know what to do. So we do not want to help anymore. That is we do good work, good work without patience so easily backward.

That is, I said Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara in the story of Quan Am Thi. Now I say Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara on the image that you are worshiping.

We come to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara temple often see Him in the form of a woman, but in fact, Bodhisattvas do not have men and women. In the business of the Mon have stated clearly, Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara when the need to be male co-male. When the need for women, the embodiment of women, the need for Karma is the body. Thus, he does not have the body of a man or a woman, but according to the basis of beings like body appears to appear. But because of the rich woman's love, he often embodied herself.

So when talking about love, it is said as gentle mother love children. Father also love but sometimes have to command, must hit. The mother often hurt, but less hit. So that mother said gentle, less gentle father. I should strictly call or sub, mother gentle or call from the sample. Thus compassion is often symbolized by women. Avalokitesvara Bodhi compassion, so he embodied the woman to express his wish.

Next we see that in his left hand he holds a purse, and his right hand holds the branch. So what does it mean? The pot is to contain orange juice. I read the text in a text in the Han Water Margin: "lobster willow children turn orange. Except for the heat of the brain. Silence is suffering from the four. The lecture of escape method.

So he took the branches of the nettle in the middle of the net. What is orange juice and celestial plants? Orange is sweet, it is frost. Misty leaves on the leaves, the water is clean and sweet called nectar. Nectar is symbolic of compassion. The heart is clean, sweet as sweet as orange. So compassion to where the heat of the brain to sip there. Our defilements burn so bad that only compassionate water can extinguish. Affliction is anger. Wanting to finish the field, pass the anger must have compassion. Nectar juice is a symbol of compassion. When we meet suffering, the one who teaches compassion will be reduced. The beings are hungry, all kinds of accidents, met people with compassion, they will be saved. So suffering only has compassion for peace.

Nutritious orange juice for everyone to be cool, it must be positive. Some people take bamboo poles or branches instead of spiny branches to spice the orange juice. But the truth is that the orange juice just rinsed through the branches. Why so? Because the small branches, pieces, when the wind, it is flexible but not broken. So to say the meaning of the patience, encountered difficult times always depends, patience, not opposed. New look like weak, resilient endurance, not broken, lost. Thus the image of the spruce represents the patience. For the sake of patience can bring water or compassion for everyone. Without patience, there is no compassion.

It is clear that compassion and patience are the same. There is compassion that lack of patience or vice versa, there is patience that lack of compassion is not. So in the mouth said he took the branch of the orange juice around the whole. Except for the heat of the brain, He makes everyone bathe in the stream of salvation. Listen to the call to save suffering for four. He preached the dharma throughout the whole guru.

Thereby, we see the image of his holding a branch of orange juice spread on all people, that is to bring compassion spread all over the species. Due to the power of compassion, the anger of the human being is destroyed. If we do not have compassion, we can not do what the Buddha taught.

I recall when the Buddha was on earth, once on the way of education, met a group of villains scolded badly, but he remained calm, no attitude is uncomfortable or disgruntled. But A-nan Sun can not bear, immediately told the Buddha:

- Well, we should go somewhere else.

Buddha said:

- Now where to go A-nan?

Ananda said,

- Go where no person curses themselves to be able to spread the word.

Buddha said:

- Assuming we go to another place also someone scolded again, how do A-nan?

Ananda said,

- Thus, we find the places that have been taught as the relics or the place where his disciples.

Buddha said:

- Hey Ananda! If he is a good physician, should hang the board in front of the house saying: "Here only treat the common diseases, but seriously ill go to other places"?

Ananda said,

- Are not.

Buddha asked:

- Why so?

Ananda said,

- Good physicians treat severe illness, but the disease is often important.

Buddha said:

Likewise, people are sick, we have to treat them, so long as they do not need, then we go.

Ananda said:

- They are cursing themselves, they do not need me.

The thugs who heard said so wake up voices:

- Lord, we need you.

Thus the Buddha remained in the teachings of those people.

The story has shown us, Buddha whether our chemistry but not where people are equally respect. Even the Buddha was educated also met bitter, obstructed all things, but he also tolerate tolerance. Therefore, he became a Buddhist monk and spread the teachings to this day.

We are disciples of the Buddha must learn his example. Because of the suffering of the miserable people, even if they make trouble, we do aggression, we should not be angry. Buddhism always reminds Buddhists always try to make the spirit of compassion for patience. If we are not happy then we are not the Buddha's disciples.

Actually, we all have compassion, but our compassion is limited. For example, some people go to the concert to see the actors are crying, they cry as well, so there is love, see the new crying scene. But the strange thing is that the scene on the stage is crying, but see the real suffering outside is calm. So the cry is due to the actor's smart emotions, while the scene does not evoke emotions do not cry, only for the poor.

This is because compassion is also influenced by personal affection. So we understand Buddhism and then practice compassion, we will gain great benefits. All that we do for others, but as we all help people, then we will be helped by people. I'm good at dealing with people who will treat me well. Are there people wondering why I am good at dealing with people who deal badly with me? We should not rush to think "please resentment". The truth is not so.

I used to say we used to hurt someone, but now we have good heart, but our improvement is not good enough for us. So although we help people, they still do not grieve us but still vaults again. Should understand the cause and effect is not angry that they must know because their work is not worth, not really noble, not noble people are not satisfied.

Someone said that I have never been in pain before, but we should remember in the Buddha that what happened to us not only happened in this life but also related to many others before. . Today we are kind to people but we know that before we do too much suffering. The resentment of the past also hides in the consciousness of people, now meet again, although we do good things are good, but not good enough for the old, so they are not satisfied, do not sympathize with us.

So we just blame ourselves not to blame. Thanks to that, the new practice is not obstacle. Understandably, all of us are well aware that our lives, if well-deserved, are we know compassion, love people, know how to save people. We do not just say it in words, but also have to endure, patience.

I told the story again, once the Buddha went begging, a teacher Ba-la-subjects follow the curse that the Buddha still calm. Pan-run-madness ran up front to stop asking:

- Gossip! You lost me?

Buddha sit down sitting down, say the verse:

More people are more resentment
The loser sleeps quietly
More than two lose
They are well sleep.

He said that even more see, losing is suffering. Than people are resentful, also loses the night to sleep is not. Only those who can not lose, they are safe, happy.

As I said, we worship the Buddha as the great hero, because in any case he also withheld, not resist or torture anyone. He just gently reminded the teacher. So he is not angry, not angry, not resentment. That endurance is called Dai Hung.

Buddha is a great hero, we at least make the hero because we are the Buddha. So in the family to the society we have to live and cult like? If at home, the husband is loud, the wife must be patience. Forbearance does not mean shame, it is a loss. Forbearance of outsiders is not lost, in the other is to patience in the house. We can not tolerate it, so we control our temper. It is difficult to slow down or grow older, or to fasten smaller ones. There are those who are less virtuous, more rude, are we arguing with them? So to abstain all, big and small to be patience, we just patience. Remember to be compassionate not only for the outsider but also for the family. So we know how to cultivate, called new pupils of the Great Hero.

If you want to become a true Buddhist, there must be compassion, patience. Was a Buddhist who is moving to each other angry or see that person suffering not hurt, do not deserve to be called Buddhist? In Buddhist scriptures often remind us to have compassion beings, suffering the suffering to clear mind, pure. That is indispensable.

We have to know that on the road always encountered obstacles. If we do not understand, we will not be blessed? Patrons who practice humiliating patriotism to where they are honored are not able to practice patience. For example, if there is no Buddha, then how can we see His greatness? Thanks to the deranged dare to scold Him, we see his extraordinary power. We cultivate people who have glasses, some people scolded, some people despise, we are so natural, so called real people.

The majority of Buddhists nowadays consider themselves to be worshiping, being blessed without knowing how to cultivate for themselves a compassionate mind. So obstacles on the way, I do not call obstacles call the coast. Thanks to people swear that round to be humble. Otherwise we do not know if you can ring or not.

For Buddhists do not fear, do not be afraid to be challenged. Because the challenge is a good opportunity for us to express our spirituality. Tu is the ability to bear, to endure all trials, not to cultivate to receive everything peacefully. By cultivators as well as rowing upstream, opposite wind. If we drop, the boat will go to sea. If we try to row, we can reach the source, where we want. If you want to spend money, then what else?

Buddhists come to pagodas beg for the Buddha to prosper, everything is fine, children learn well, etc. Please do not refrain from cultivating. So is it please? If Buddha can not get bored. Heard that the Lord Jesus Christ, so run over her. Please do not Buddha please. Such a person is unknown. Tu is to build yourself a virtue, a noble aspirations, do not go to the practice of begging. Buddhists we ask too! Go to the temple but go hear the spirit of running to beg. It is the habit of those who do not understand the meaning of spiritual practice.

When we understand the meaning of patience, then we do not have to coexist too much difficulty. The monk who encountered obstacles should be happy to say to the friars: I am so blessed, I meet all ten obstacles and overcome all. So, thanks to obstacles we succeed. If there are no obstacles then there is no success. As high jumpers, initially to low trees, times up high, so people hold obstacles or help the players jump high. We do the same. Tu is to be clean every day, every day is clear. To be like that, all the obstacles we have overcome, like games, nothing to mind. So new success, also afraid of suffering, fear, obstacles, tu tu desire for happiness, not tu tu to be freed.

Understand that Buddhists should reconsider for maturity, do not be sad, do not be afraid when we are troubled or dishonored. We must have the strength, determination to be firm, determined to go to the place to place. Is that the right decision to the right. There are also prayers are religious. True right, you have to change the bad points, bad points of your good or good.

The Buddha taught that: I have no right to blame anyone. If Buddha has the right to bless people, then surely the Buddha does not teach us to be patient, compassionate, cultivate the cause. Good cause is good fruit, bad cause bad consequences. If the Buddha to be, then we do not need to cause, just give the Buddha and Buddha. So does the Buddha save us? The Buddha shows us a path, who is on the right path is happy, who go the wrong way, suffering.

As Buddhist students when taking refuge in the Three Jewels, the Buddha taught to keep the five precepts. If we keep the five precepts, we can be good people. Do not keep the five precepts will fall into evil as hell, etc. ... Keep the five precepts are tu, not keep the gender is not tu. The Buddha taught us to cultivate, not to take us into human beings or to hell, to hell. The path that the Buddha points out is for us to go, not the Buddha, using divine power to bless us. Understanding is the new understanding. Understanding the use of Buddhist practice is very beneficial. By contrast, although going to pagodas but not benefit much.

In short, we cultivate the Buddha to extend compassion and patience. That compassion must be from our remedies, not where it is brought. Effort is due to the daily training that accomplished. So we should practice virtuous compassion in our lives, in every moment so that we have enough strength to meet the obstacles.  This day, we now see the loss but fortune will be deep in many lives after many lives, never lost.

There is no Buddha who accidentally became a Buddha. They are Buddhist monks, no Bodhisattva who suddenly became Bodhisattva. All through how many years of spiritual practice. So, as a Buddha disciple, we try to cultivate the meaning of the Buddha taught.
