1- Lower 44 in Jetavana (-546 years)
King Pasenadi praises Buddha [11]
After the 44th retreat at Jetavana in 546 BC, the Buddha went west, arriving in Kuru, in the upper Ganga and Yamuna rivers. After staying there for two months, the Buddha followed the Yamuna River to the south, to Kosambi, and to Benares (Varanasi). From Benares, Buddha returned to Vesali; Then from Vesali to Kapilavastu. One day, the Buddha was practicing religious practice in the village of Ulumpa in Medalumpa district of Sakya, where the king Pasenadi visited.
King Pasenadi are excursions in Nagaraka with Prince Vidudabha [12] (Virudhaka, Pi-Save-Ly) and Minister Digha-Karayana. Nagaraka was half a day away from Medalumpa. Upon hearing that the Buddha was at Ulumpa, King Pasenadi immediately led his entourage along with four Pharaohs to visit the Buddha. Arriving at the park where the Buddha was staying, the king left his entourage outside, and told General Karayana to go with him to the park. Seeing the yellow buddhist monks passing by, the king asked where the Buddha was. The mendicant points to an am leaf hidden under a tree and says,
- Great King, the Blessed One is in it. Door closed, Great King cough up one hour and knock on the door two hours, the Exalted will open the procession of the Great King.
The king took off the sword and took off the crown and handed it to the general, telling him to return to the gate with his entourage waiting for him, and the king went alone to the Buddha. In front of the door, the king cleared his throat and coughed for an hour before knocking on the door. Buddha happily invited the king into the am. Two Venerable Sariputta and Ananda came to greet the king.
Buddha invited the king to sit on a chair, then sit on the opposite seat himself. Two monks stand behind the Buddha. King Pasenadi, who had just sat down on the chair, stood up and bowed at the Buddha's feet, saying,
- Buddha, Melaleuca is Pasenadi king of Kosala, prostrate Buddha. I am Pasenadi, the king of Kosala, to pay homage to the Blessed One.
Buddha stood up, invited to sit in the chair, then asked:
- Great king, why today King solemn reverence so? Are not we close friends?
Well , I have something to say to the Blessed One today, afraid of no other occasion.
- There is something to ask the Great King to say.
" Blessed are you who say that Gotama knows everything (sabbannu, omniscient), there is nothing he does not know. Is it true?
" Great Lord, that's a bit too much." It should be said that Satama Gotama is full of the Three Senses are Tuc Minh Minh, Thien Minh Minh and Minh Minh Minh.
- Blessed One, there are people who say that the Blessed One said there is no samathorn or brahmin who can understand omniscient. Is it true?
- Great King, Tathagata just say no one can see and know all at once. [13]
- Dear Brother, I completely trust the Blessed One is full of sense. I completely trust in the teachings and worshipers of the Exalted Church. I have known the Brahmins and other rabbis. Some practitioners have been earnest for ten, twenty, thirty, forty years, but then they find that they give up and return to the five lifetimes. In the Dharma of the Blessed One, I see that most of the monks are religious practitioners for the rest of their lives.
Blessed, I have seen kings oppose kings, generals conspire against the general, brahman against brahman, wife arguing with his husband, arguing with his father, he quarrel with him , friends quarrel with friends. Here I see the mendicants living in harmony, joy, water like milk. I do not see where there is the harmony of harmony as in the mendicant congregation.
The Blessed One, everywhere I have seen the masters with austere posture, face sadness. But here, I see the mendicant always awake, smiling, happy, free. This made me more confident in the Buddha and the teachings of the Exalted.
The Blessed One, I am king, of the lineage of soldiers. I have the authority to order decapitation, or imprisonment, or punish anyone, if I wish. Yet in the meetings, the world still dared to steal my words. Even if I say "You can not steal my words," they still forget and still steal my words as usual. But at the monastery, there are over a thousand mendicants to hear the Sun lecture that I do not hear a small sound, do not say anyone dare to steal the word. I think: It is a mystery. Buddha does not need authority, no need to swords, no punishment what everyone respects the Buddha absolutely. This made me even more confident in the Exalted One and the Teachings of the Blessed One.
The Blessed One, I knew many of the intellectuals, scholars, and masters of renown gathered together to prepare the mysterious questions that could make the Blessed One embarrass. But when they came to the Blessed One and listened to the Buddha, they were all conquered by the Buddha, so that they no longer thought of raising their questions. This made me have more confidence in the Blessed One and the teachings of the Blessed One.
Blessed are two very skilled carpenters named Isidatta and Purana. I used to take them on a long trip. Unexpectedly, my king had to sleep in a small tent. Two of my carpenters sat talking to each other about the teachings of the Blessed One, until they fell asleep as they lay down, their heads pointing to Linh-Thuu Mountain, their feet swinging toward me. Blessed are the salary they pay, but they pay homage to the Sun than I was next. This made me believe in the Buddha and the teachings of the Exalted.
Dear Lord, the Blessed one of the kings, I belong to the kings. The Buddha is 78 years old, I was 78 years old this year. So I think this is a precious opportunity to express my respect for the Buddha and to express my affection between the Blessed One and the Blessed One. Now I will leave the Exalted.
- Grandpa care to take care of your health.
Buddha stood up and sent King Pasenadi to the door. When returning, the Buddha said:
- Sariputta and Ananda, King Pasenadi said very sincere words of the monarch to the Three Jewels. Two teachers should keep in mind to strengthen the faith of postmortemers.
King Pasenadi died in Rajagriha. [14]
After visiting the Buddha in the village of Ulumpa, King Pasenadi came out to the park gate to see only a car and an old lady at the back. The informer told him that General Digha Karayana had brought the crown, the seal and the precious sword of the king, to the Prince Vidudabha so he would return to Sravasti soon to take the throne. Do not let a person too old to sit on the throne. The prince is still alive, and Karayana threatened that if the prince refused to become king, he would return to the king himself. Before that pressure Vidudabha Prince must obey, but forcing Karayana to leave to his father a chariot and a concubine. Then Prince Vidudabha according to General Karayana about Sravasti, killed Prince Jeta and crowned king.
King Pasenadi decided to come to Rajagriha to support his son, Ajatasattu. Over a distance of over 300 km under the sun, wind and dust, the king drank only water without food. To Rajagriha it was late, the gate was closed. The king had to spend the night in the inn. That night King Pasenadi was sick and died in the hands of an old lad. In the morning, king Ajatasattu or hurry to receive the Pasenadi king so long bow, ordered the organization of a solemn funeral for his younger brother. After the funeral, king Ajatasattu is about to nominate the king of Vidudabha, but the Jivaka mendicant says: In spite of King Pasenadi's death, Prince Jeta was killed by General Karayana. Vidudabha was also the only son of King Pasenadi to take the throne, as well as brother of Ajatasattu's aunt, If there is a conquest of conquest, it does not lead to any other solution, but it also causes many generals and civilians to miscarry and suffer mischief. Seeing Jivaka sensible, King Ajatasattu sent envoys to Sravasti to acknowledge the new king.
King Vidudabha slaughtered the Sakya clan [15]
After being summoned by General Digha-Karayana from Ulumpa to Sravasti to kill Prince Jeta and take over the throne of Kosala, Vidudabha recalls the childhood grudge the Sakya despised and humiliated. [16] , he went to the ruling party. The Buddha was then incarnated under a tree in the boundary near Kapilavastu to welcome Vidudabha's army. Nearby, on the Kosala border, there is a large, very large tree with very cool shade. Vidudabha saw the Buddha immediately came to pay homage and said:
- Sunshine, this sunny sun that the Sun sitting under this small tree is very hot, why do not the Sun go to sit under the tree to eat the other cool?
- Please do not care. The shadow of my family makes me cool.
Vidudabha thought that the Buddha intentionally came here to protect the Sakya clan. So he celebrated the Buddha and returned to Sravasti. The Buddha returned to Jetavana. Several days ago, King Vidudabha remembered the old feud with a second army; But when he saw the Buddha sitting right where he was, he returned. The third time. On the fourth occasion, the Buddha first praised the Sakya people, realizing that they could not avoid the previous karmic retribution of their poison into the river to harm the people, so the Buddha to intervene again.
This time Vidudabha was determined to wash his hatred, he ordered the killings of those who spoke. We are Sakya Ể except those who follow King Mahanama. Sakya, on the other hand, would rather die than kill an enemy. They shot their names or stabbed through enemy shields but never touched. In the end, only those who ran after King Mahanama and the Sakya people sucked their grass or sucked their reeds, unable to answer the question. Are they Sakya people? Oh , is alive. Until the elderly and small children were killed large clean [17] .
King Vidudabha captures King Mahanama and returns to Sravasti. Midway through the breakfast, Vidudabha told Mahanama to eat at the same table with him. Seeing nearby there is a large lake, Mahanama said:
" Hey, my limbs and limbs are so dirty, so you can go take a shower first."
- Yes, my grandfather took a natural shower.
At the shore of the lake, Mahanama put her hair down in front of her, pinned her hair to the knuckles, then threw herself into the water, slipping her feet in the center of her hair. Long Wang arrives at Mahanama Palace for 12 years. Vidudabha waited for a long time, for the seekers everywhere did not see, thinking that Mahanama had fled, ordered the way to Sravasti.
That night the army camped on the banks of the Aciravati River. In the dry season, the river was covered with sand, some soldiers lay down in the middle of the river, others were on the banks of the river. But the previous ones caused bad karma, lying on the river bank, bitten by ants, went down the river bed in the sand. The former good karma, lying on the sand in the river, feeling cramped, put to shore lying. By midnight, a heavy rainstorm had surfaced, flooding Vidudabha and those under the river to the sea as bait for fish and turtles.
For those who believe that the Sakya clan was murdered unfairly because they were good people, would rather die than kill the enemy, the Buddha said:
- Due to the contribution of previous karma caused by poisoning the river to harm people, this life they bear retribution, unavoidable.
To the mendicants that Vidudabha and his loyalist wing had slaughtered the Sakya clan, but the desire was not fulfilled, why was the water swept away to the sea as bait for fish and turtles? The Buddha taught:
- Teachers, lusts, human desires, never completely satisfied. Death, therefore, is like a melee that sweeps through a village in the dark, arrives unexpectedly, steals their life and pushes them into the four oceans of distress.
Moggallana was assassinated by the pagans in Rajagriha. [18]
Venerable Moggallana is the second major disciple of the Buddha, after Venerable Sariputta. The great disciples of the Buddha had many people before the Buddha. Uruvela Kassapa and his two younger siblings Gaya Kassapa and Nadi Kassapa also passed away.
Venerable Moggallana is a great mendicant with much courage, frankly not echoing. The Venerable usually point straight to the wrong points in the pagan doctrine so hated. Whenever Rajagriha is returned, the Moggallana Venerable is often alone in Mount Isigili with two loyal followers to meditate. One day, the Vengvana Vengvana early departure with two disciples. Assassins, planned ahead, ambush at the foot of the mountain. When they saw the Venerable, they attacked with canes. Three teachers do not hand, can not resist the crowd. Two disciples were knocked out. They shouted for help. But not in time. Venerable Moggallana screamed at the woods before beating them to the last to break their skulls, fractures, and death in place. When teachers in Venuvana believe, Run to where the murderers have escaped form. The two disciples were badly wounded. When the Buddha arrived at Venuvana, the body of the Venerable Moggallana was cremated, the relics contained in a jar placed in front of the Buddha's door.
Asked to Venerable Sariputta, the teachers told the Buddha that the Venerable Sariputta had closed since the day Moggallana was assassinated. Everyone knows that these two monks are closer than one another, for each other always like a shadow. Buddha never rest, go to Sariputta am to comfort. Venerable Ananda followed, thinking: Buddha went to comfort Sariputta, but who was comforting the Buddha when most of the Sakya clan was massacred? Suddenly Buddha turned to look at him and say:
- Ananda, everyone said that he learned a lot and remembered many things about the Dharma. He should not take much study and remember enough to do enough. Caring for the Tathagata and anxiety for the congregation is necessary, but not enough. After a fast, short life, he must soon make efforts to escape birth and death. You must practice peace before birth, see birth and death as the flower in the middle of nowhere.
Venerable Ananda was silent at the end. A mendicant asked for Buddha's explanation:
- Lord Exalted, Brother Moggallana divine communication that can not resist the pagan, to change to be murdered?
- Hey teacher, not Moggallana not resist the pagan, but because in a past life Moggallana have heard the wife posing as bandits, use whisk aging parents blindness to death in the forest [19] ; and in another life, the net jobless killing of so many souls, so today must bear retribution. Teachers should know that miracles do not pass through karma, only repentance can cause less retribution .
The next morning the Buddha pointed out the location to build the memorial and relics of the Venerable Moggallana near Venuvana.
Devadatta died at Griddhakuta
One golden afternoon, when the Buddha was walking meditation on the mountain of Griddhakuta (Spiritual), two hammocks Venerable Devadatta asked to see the Buddha.
Venerable Devadatta has been seriously ill for nine months. Venerable want to see the Buddha again to ask for repentance before dying. The two men carrying the Venerable today are two of the six remaining disciples. During the bed time on Gayasisa Mountain, not many people came to visit the Venerable, including the most active supporters of the ancients. During this time the Venerable had the opportunity to calmly rethink the value of their actions.
It was reported that Venerable Devadatta asked to be met, and the Buddha returned to his retreat.Buddha ordered the monk to his bed, then to the side of comfort:
- How long have you been sick? The Tathagata is looking forward to seeing you.
Venerable Devadatta is weak, unable to sit up. The Venerable also did not speak much, just look at the Buddha and try to hold hands and say whispered:
- I will take refuge in the Buddha.
- Good, you should rest.
The Buddha placed his hands on Devadatta's forehead to comfort the Venerable. By that afternoon the Venerable passed away [20] . The Buddha said to the mendicants: Devadatta because of greed, greed should create more evil karma, the abyss of Avici [21] ; However, thanks to the good karma, after one hundred thousand births will be reborn as the Atthissara (Pacceka-Buddha).
Ajatasattu's messenger requests the Buddha for the Vajji infantry attack. [22]
After the tea ceremony of Venerable Devadatta, the Buddha is about to travel to the north, with the great Vassakara, the order of King Ajatasattu, to ask the Buddha. Vassakara the Brahmin. He came to pay homage to the Buddha, then presented the king and the king's wish for the Vajji warriors in the north of the Ganga to consolidate the northern border, and to develop the economy and economy of the country. Instead of answering Vassakara, the Buddha turned to the Venerable Ananda standing on the back of the Buddha:
- Ananda, do you hear the Vajji [23] often gather to discuss the matter?
- Buddha, I often heard people together which served numerous meetings to talk about politics.
- Then Vajji water is still strong. Ananda, do you know when they meet to talk, are they united together?
- Lord, I listen to them very harmony and solidarity with each other.
- Then surely Vajji water is still strong. Ananda, the Vajji people respect the laws and regulations that have been promulgated?
- Lord, I heard they respect the laws and regulations have been issued.
- Then surely Vajji water is still strong. Ananda, Vajji have respect and hear their leaders?
- Lord, I listen to them very respectful and listen to the words of their leader.
- Then their country is still strong. Ananda, do you hear in their country of violence, theft, killing each other?
- The Blessed One, the violence, theft, kill each other very rarely occur.
- Then Vajji water is still strong. Ananda, do you hear the Vajji people protecting the temples and the heritage of their ancestors?
- Lord, I hear they still know the protection of the temple and heritage of their ancestors.
- Well then, Ananda, Vajji is still strong. Do you hear the Vajji people respectfully, offering and studying under the holy monks?
- Buddha, to this day they are still very revered, often offering and prefer to learn with the holy monk.
- Ananda, then surely the Vajji water is still strong, not decadent. When the Tathagata had once had the opportunity to teach the leaders of Vesali about the seven factors that kept the country from being degraded, called the Great Immortality . The seven things are:
1 / Attendance meetings;
2 / Harmony and solidarity;
3 / Respect the rules promulgated;
4 / Respect and hear the words of the chiefs;
5 / Do not violate the superiors or subordinates;
6) protect the heritage of ancestors;
7 / Honor and learn with the sages.
Ananda, to this day, they still perform the seven spells. So Tathagata thinks that Vajji water is still strong, not weakened. Magadha water despite the heroic heroic strength is difficult to capture.
Vassakara said:
- Buddha, which served people just practice a few things in seven Buddha was enough to make them prosperous country then, how much more they practice the seven allowed No Quitting . Dear Lord, I think that Ajatasattu can not defeat the Vajji people by force. The King can only beat them if he sows the seeds of divisions among their leaders. I thank the Blessed One and retreat to the court order.
After Lord Vassakara withdrew, the Buddha lamented to Ananda:
- This deity has many tricks. Probably in the future Ajatasattu will take the army to capture the country Vajji.
The Buddha taught the Seven Dhamma to keep the Dharma
That afternoon, the Buddha told Master Ananda to summon all the mendicants present in the Rajagriha capital and in the vicinity of Griddhakuta.
Within three days there were nearly two thousand male and female abbots converging on the Griddhakuta Mountains. The color of the lush yellow casserole overwhelmed the hill. From a distance, Griddhakuta Mountain is a great cluster of yellow daisies.
About four o'clock in the afternoon, the sun was shining, the Buddha standing on top of Griddhakuta looking down, he greeted the mendicants, his voice clear and resounding as the bell sounded, he said:
- Hey teacher, Tathagata is older, the health of the Tathagata has declined, no longer as old, so today Tathagata invited the teacher gathered here to teach the master seven methods to preserve The Dharma and the Church are not degraded. Listen carefully.
First of all, the teachers should meet regularly in large gatherings to study together and discuss the Dharma.
Secondly, the teachers should come to a meeting with the spirit of harmony and solidarity, and at the same time break up with the spirit of harmony and solidarity.
The third is to respect together and live in the spirit of legislation and precepts have been issued.
4- The fourth is respect and obedience of the elders with virtue and experience in the congregation.
5- The fifth is to have a simple and frugal lifestyle, not to be attracted to craving.
6- Friday is to appreciate the silence.
7th Saturday is to stay in mindfulness to realize peace and liberation, to be refuge for fellow practitioners.
Teachers, as long as the Seven Dhamma mentioned above are also properly practiced, the Dharma is flourishing and the congregation is not degraded. No external element can sabotage the congregation. Only members within the congregation make the congregation disintegrate.
Teacher, when the lion gods fall down, no one dares to eat meat. Only parasites born from the lion's body can eat lions. Protect the Dhamma by living the Seven Immortal Faans , never transforming yourself into insects in the body of a lion.
After teaching the seven do not rot, the Buddha advised the mendicants should not waste precious time on the chattering or trivial discussion, do not be lazy, do not run for fame and greed Education, do not get along with evil people, do not be complacent with the knowledge and level of attainment; On the contrary, you should be close to the experienced mendicant, with the good knowledge to learn more about the Noble Eightfolds because it is the endless knowledge of the Buddhas.
The Buddha recited the teachings of the seven factors of enlightenment (Enlightenment or Bodhi-Section) as the way each mendicant should go: Mindfulness, Truth, Effort, Hy, An, Concentration, Equanimity. Then the Buddha reminded the mastermind of the preliminary, so they need to practice four (contemplation): impatient body, feeling is suffering, impermanent heart, no-self France; and six meditation (Logos of the Dharma): Book, Suit, Suit, Suit, Suit, [24] .
Nearly two thousand masters are happy to live with the ten-day Buddha on Mt. Griddhakuta, and each day hears from the Buddha's reminder and sums up what he has taught and points out some confusing places. They reside throughout Griddhakuta Mountain and surrounding areas, where trees, caves, funerals, ravines, and crowds reside in Jivaka's mango garden. On the tenth day, the Buddha left the mendicants, advised them to return to the place of practice, only the residents of the priest still remain.
The mendicants gone, the Buddha stood so long on the top of the mountain overlooking the tranquil scenery of the surrounding forest. The sun hides behind the mountain to the west. Buddha told the Venerable Ananda:
- Ananda, tomorrow we will go to Venuvana (Truc Lam).
Sariputta praises Buddha [25]
After visiting Venuvana for two days, the Buddha left the Rajagriha capital to go toAmbalatthika Forest . Ambalatthika was once a Bimbisara resort; Later, the Buddha and the mendicants, on the way to Nalanda, often visit rest leg. Two Sariputta and Rahula teachers used to reside here. After visiting and commissioning the mendicants, the Buddha left Ambalatthika to Nalanda . The wandering monk followed the Buddha about a hundred. The Venerable Ananda, Sariputta and Anuruddha follow the Buddha. To Nalanda, the Buddha stayed at the Pavarika mango garden. The following day, Venerable Sariputta sat quietly at the Buddha's seat for a long time.
- Lord Buddha, I think in the past, in the present and in the future, there can not be a monk or brahman who has the wisdom and the transcendence than the Exalted.
" Sariputta, your words are daring. Have you met and known all the enlightened beings in the past, in the present and in the future not dare to speak like that?
- Lord, how do you meet all the enlightened beings in three generations. But one thing I know for sure is that I have been living close to the Blessed One for over forty years. Not only did I hear the teachings of the Blessed One, but I also saw how the Blessed One lived. It is true that the Buddha has lived permanently in mindfulness and mindfulness. Six units were blessed perfectly. There is never a trace of the year covered by greed, resentment, kissing, miserliness and skepticism found in the daily life of the Blessed One. So I think that the saints in the past, present and future, when reaching enlightenment with the ultimate, wisdom and attainment is only by the Exalted, but how can be higher.
" Sariputta, you have good reasoning, but it is better to keep mindfulness, not to think.
In Nalanda, the Buddha teaches more about the three major disciplines (Gender, concentration, and wisdom). Buddha told three subjects of Gender, concentration, Hue should be cultivated parallel to each other, the results are new fast.
Leaving Nalanda, the Buddha went to Pataliputta . Here the Buddha and the mendicants are welcomed by many lay people and invited to their home to make offerings and hear the sermon.
Madam Rupa-Sari, mother of Venerable Sariputta, was seriously ill
Before leaving for Pataliputta, Venerable Sariputta came to farewell to visit his mother. The Venerable has just been informed that Rupa-Sari is seriously ill, hard to pass. This year she is over a hundred years old. The monk prostrated himself to the Three Lord Buddha and accompanied Cunda to the village of Upalissa (Nalaka) in Nalanda district.
The gates and docks of Gotama at Pataliputta [26]
As the Buddha and his almataka are about to leave Pataliputta, just to the north gate, there are two Magadha greats, Sunidha and Vassakara. They were sent by Ajatasattu to study and develop the city of Pataliputta (also known as Pataligama, now Patna) into a large city, both for the economic development of Magadha, as well as to prevent the invasion. entry of Vajji. Two great spirits said:
- The Blessed One, it is wonderful! We have just built the port and the port near completion, it was accidentally visited by the Buddha. So we ask the Exalted Monk to name this gates as Gotama Gate . We also ask permission to take the Sun and the congregation to the new wharf to cross the Ganga River. And we also call this wharf Gotama .
- You have the option. This pataliputta will become a prosperous business town, but in the future it will inevitably face the three major dangers of fire, flood and war. You should be discerning, careful and cultivate many blessings to be supported by the gods.
The Ganges this season rises near the shore. The two mandarins called for five large boats to take the Buddha [27] and the congregation into one river.
