PRISON OF LIFE.
Today, I will talk about the so-called "prison". It will help us understand what is called "life" more clearly. Then we will understand about France (Dhamma) better.
This will help us live a life no longer dukkha, (the real heaven, pain, stress, brain gauge). So, today I will talk about the so-called "prison." You prepared to listen.
Where any condition (to prison), and there are signs that prison showing possession of the right that must be present of dukkha. You should observe to see that any of the types and forms of dukkha would also feature prison in it. Persecution, imprisonment, sentences end, met difficulties and sorrows, are all characteristics of dukkha. If you understand this, you will better understand the meaning of what we call "upadana" (stick, accept the seat). Wherever there is upadana, right at that prison. Main "Upadana" itself it brought to the conditions of the prison.
Wherever there is upadana, right in that bondage. Bondage can be positive or negative, both bound for the same. By evaluating things and stick stuck into them as "I" and "mine," bondage occurs. When stick stuck with something, we get stuck in it, like being stuck in prison.
Consequence of Buddhist teachings can be summarized: Upadana is the cause of suffering; suffering derived from upadana. We all have to grasp this issue of upadana. To understand, we must clearly see it just like a prison-a spiritual prison, a spiritual prison. We came here to study, to learn the Dhamma and meditation practice (stability and purity of mind) and vipassanā (intelligent, consistent content) to kill upadana. Or, if we speak in metaphors, we study, learn the Dhamma and to develop the mind to destroy the prison confinement at us.
We are talking about a spirit prison or jail spirituality, but it has the same meaning as a concrete prison. It's like the prison for sure that these prisoners are imprisoned in it everywhere, but now we are talking about a purely spiritual prison. This prison is quite odd or unusual because we can't see the material in which it's folder with the naked eye. What's more outlandish that when people volunteer to be locked up in prison. Everyone is really excited to come in and b locked up in this mental prison. This is the infinity monsters of the jail House spiritual or psychic prison.
The rescue is the salvation from prison
You have to remember the word "Salvation" or "liberation" is used in all the religions. The ultimate goal of all religions is the salvation, or is salvation, or any from what the most appropriate in each language. But all these words are meaning the same-be saved. All the religions are taught about salvation. However, we are saved from what? We are rescued from prison. The thing that all you want and even need right now is what is known as "freedom", which is, stated simply, escape from prison. For though--it's a prison, jail or prison is a physical spirituality, spiritual prison; the meanings are the same. In any case, we want to be free.
The less the intellect can only see and fear the physical prison, materialism. But people who have wisdom (pañña), have more insight will find prison spirituality also risky and terribly much, much more. Actually, we find that not everyone is easily imprisoned in regular prisons, while people in the world are trapped in the prison of spirituality. For example, every person is sitting all this, no one is detained in prison often, but all you are confined in a spiritual prison. What motivates us interested in Dhamma (France), to the practice of Dhamma and practice spiritual development, is the big picture encyclopedia and forced confinement in a spiritual prison. For although you are aware of this or not is not important, it still caught us, regardless of who it is, to swim and to find a way to escape from the prison of this spirituality. It is forcing all of you-for the oil you are aware or not-is to go in search of spiritual freedom. So that you find here as well as other places similar to this place.
Although the are imprisoned here we have only a single thing, namely upadana, but prison that has many different forms. There are dozens of types and kinds of prison. If we give up the time to learn about each one, it will help us to understand this phenomenon. Then we will understand more clearly the upadana, and we will also understand tanha (craving) and kisela (negativity in mind) than the stuff that followed the teachings of the Buddha's dukkha is caused. They will understand the problem of dukkha once we understand clearly and smoothly problem of jail House (spirituality).
I'd strongly recommend use of Pali noun "Upadana", instead of the room is the accept State, stick stuck. The noun language is often misunderstood. At this time you can not understand it, but try to use from this Upadana to acquaint the mouth, at the same time for the mind and your emotions are also used with it.
We must understand that the core of Buddhism is the removal take upadana. The core of Buddhism is the escape from bondage upadana, or alleviate it. And then there is no prison, and also no dukkha.
We should better use the word upadana. It means more broadly and will help us to look at this issue deeper and wider.
Only the essence of Buddhism
Maybe it was just a simple word, but the most important thing is upadana. The core of Buddhism is eradicated or alleviate the upadana. Then suffering will cease. Please understand that this is the core of all forms of Buddhism, it is found in every tradition and sectarian. Primitive Buddhism, Buddhism, Zen Buddhism (Zen) Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, any form of Buddhism would you like, they are just different names or different in terms of ritual and practice-in terms of the external form. But the contents inside are all the same: cut upadana.
Don't be sad, don't be frustrated or anxious, don't create more tricky for yourself by thinking that its not possible to research all the sects of Buddhism. Don't worry if you were not able to study Buddhism in Tibet, Sri Lanka, Burma, China, or in any place. It's a waste of time. All forms of Buddhism are only one type of essence or single core, namely, eradicate upadana. The Original labels, Mahayana, Zen Buddhism, Tibetan, and Chinese giáoTây Buddha only reflects on the outside of the casing layer makes us seem to have many different types of Buddhism. If there are any discrepancies, they are merely lying on the surface, are just some of the rituals and ceremonies are tom contributed back. The real core of the problem, the core of Buddhism, where also the same: Kill the ends or alleviate upadana.
Then, just research, learn this one. Don't waste time lamenting or think about your research, learn all forms of Buddhism. Please research, learn a single work: off upadana, that's enough.
If you really want to know about Buddhism as a professional, you will have to go learn Sanskrit. Can you have spent almost his whole life to learn Sanskrit and really still don't know anything. Or if you want to know more about Zen Buddhism (Zen), you will have to learn Chinese. You spend a lifetime to learn the Chinese language and in the end you know nothing about Zen. To know Kim Cang (Vajrayana) or Tibetan Buddhism, you will have to learn the Tibetan language courses only. not only has also meant that you lost most of your life, but you really don't learn anything.
You still have yet to go into the core of Buddhism. These are only the face is evoked as the new (if you study, learn Buddha overarching direction). Please understand the essence of all these problems and just learning each one is off upadana. Then you will understand the essence of Buddhism, for although it is tagged with labels is Mahayana, Zen Buddhism, primitive or Dharani. For its oil to China, Japan, South Korea or from any other place, all just compounded into a point here: off upadana.
Even just in each primitive Buddhist tradition alone also had many different form of practice. There are many methods of cultivation. Such methods of meditation of Burma, where the bulging bellies and observation falls. There are other practical methods based on the notes (mantra) as "Araham Samma" and "Buddho, Buddho", and many other methods. But if that is the proper practice methods, the core of each exact methods are always compounded on a problem: the need to kill take upadana. If that method out to exclude upadana, then that is not a true method, and it doesn't bring back the helpful or useful. So, why are we not interested in off upadana; or, if we are to speak in metaphor, is the destruction of the prison (spiritual)? Therefore, it is best we should talk about the prison.
Recognize it from the inside
The most accurate way, we cannot learn from the classics, from technical, or from the various teachings if we want to really succeed. To really reap the benefits of touch successfully, we must learn right on itself of things, namely the prison-research, learn right on dukkha or actually right on the main stem of the prison itself. So we better find out for the prison.
At this point, we are faced with two choices: you will study and learn from outside or you will research, learn from the inside? The difference is very important. The Buddha taught that we have to study, learn from the inside. The study, learning from the outside is from books, rites, rituals, and things like that. Everything that we have learned, the Buddha taught, is from the body (trunk) when it was still alive. That means a living body, with a mind are living, rather than a body, a mind is dead. That's where the research, learning really takes place, so be it. Let's find out from inside, which means learning the inside of you when still alive, ahead of you. The research, learn from the outside, learn from books, from the rites and rituals are different, really don't help you achieve something valuable. So, let's do research, learn from the inside. Remember these words "learned on the inside."
The training of the mind by meditation (samadhi) and Ming (vipassana), i.e. the development of mindfulness with breathing (anapanasati bhavana) as we are doing here, is learning from the inside. To practice the research, learn inside it, need a lot of patience and persistence, but not too much. In fact, compared to some of the subjects that others are training, such as advanced sports, gymnastics and acrobatics, the practice of meditation and observation is not difficult. However, people still have enough patience and endurance training to such subjects. Just have patience just right and we can practice vipassanā meditation through mindfulness of breathing. Some people did not stand, and have disappeared and we then had enough patience to go to here. If we continue to add a bit more, we will succeed and will receive the benefit of touch. So, you apply yourself to the study, learn inside this and working with the mosaic patient, patient just enough.
Life itself is the prison
Use the metaphor way will help us understand the problems we are discussing much easier, so we will use them in this videotaped in today.
Therefore, we will use the metaphor to speak out yesterday. The first prison where you have to look out for to observe that is this life. If you look at life as a prison, and look at that prison as it really is, then we have to say that you know the truth of nature is quite clear. However, most people are looking at life as something interesting, like a chance to play for fun. They are ready to live to enjoy life. Then they became so indulged and attracted into your life. This makes the life become prison.
If we see life as a prison, we really had to see upadana (the player, stick stuck) with this life. If we don't yet see upadana to life, we will not see that this life is a prison and we will consent to the idea that this life is a paradise instead is prison. This is so because in life there are so many things to make us satisfied, and they lied to us and make the chips we indulged. However, anything that we feel satisfied, pleasant, attractive, and then indulged in it also have the presence of upadana. This is the prison of the us. We love something with a degree, then it will become a prison for us-at least well with the degree to which I loved-because upadana. This is a kind of positive upadana. When we hate something, or don't like something, that would be a kind of negative-upadana is also a prison. Fool and being done by upadana-for whatever is positive or negative-upadana is prison. And the prison that turn life into dukkha.
In addition, we can see that when there is upadana in life, your life will become a prison. And so, when no upadana, life will no longer be a prison. You can see this right now, here, though--or no upadana in your life. "My life is prison or not prison? I'm living/or not living in hell from upadana's? " Each of you must look carefully into his self and to see clearly that life in prison is for you or not? You have a prison or not? You are living in a prison there or not? If not, why did we come here to meditate, to cultivate the mind? In essence, the goal and the purpose of the development of spirituality is the destruction of our prisons. For although the research, learning and the practice of you have success or not, although you can destroy was the prison or not, is another matter. However, the goal and the purpose really is to destroy the prison of this life.
Please consider this carefully. If we do not recognize upadana, confined in prison without even getting to know the prison. We are stuck in prison without even knowing that prison. Further, we are satisfied and indulged the prison there, just as we are indulged and happy with life. Because we are in love and happy with your life, we are confined in the prison of life. We will do so that it is no longer a prison? This is the question that we must answer carefully, and accurately.
How can we live up to our lives is not a prison? This means that normal, or natural, life is not a prison, but do we turn it into the prison through upadana. So because of ignorance, because of circumstance, because of lack of proper understanding of the us, we have the new upadana to life. Life then becomes a prison for us. In Thailand, we have a medium-term indicative medium crude extract, "som nam na man" kind of mean, "value for life" you life is not prison or something like that, but through our own circumstance, due to ignorance (avijja) we created and existing prison upadana. We can say nothing but "som nam na man, the life you deserve."
If you succeed in the practice of reciting certain breath (Anapanasati-bhavana) you will understand in life, you will understand the upadana and you will not have any upadana in what is called "life". Then for even though the prison is going to have to kill and destroy go, new prisons will also no longer born run. This new life is worth the most, but who gets it or not is another matter. Please try to understand this truth, and you should to do so. This will be the motivation to help you address the destruction of prison with enthusiasm and patience.
One way to look at the truth of this observation is to see that life must continue according to the natural law, or see that ourselves we must live in accordance with natural laws. We must search for food, to work, to rest and relax, must work to maintain our lives: we have to do these things and all the other things that we already know too well. You can't do them. We are forced to do them. This is also a kind of prison. The work that we have to always have to follow the natural law is a kind of prison. How do we escape this particular prison?
Why we are confined in the prison are living under natural law? This prison come from upadana ours relating to ourselves, or related to our lives. When the upadana (the player, stick stuck) with ourselves, then the "I," or ego is born. The "I" this anxiety, worry, fear and panic about the mission, my duty according to natural law, and thus they make us suffer. These difficulties come from upadana. If we have no upadana with "I," then the task, necessary obligation sđối with us will not like prison. We are able to take care of our needs, make a living, trained to care for the body without being miserable-if we don't have any upadana for life. This is very subtle, which is a mystery to most people. This is the subtle nature of truth. How can we live without the dukkha for the truth that everything in this life must be done in accordance with the natural law?
The instinct is prison
The prison next to consider is we live under the impact of the instinct. We have the power of the dominant instinct. All living organisms, whether humans, animals or plants, have the instinct. Continuous instincts compel us to follow the desires and needs of them. This is especially true for the instinct of sex or reproduction. It controls, disturbed, agitated and disruptive culture gives us more? In terms of emotions and sexual reproduction does not stop we urge, we squeeze, oppress us, to disturb us, we stripped our encyclopedia through all kinds of difficulties. But we can't stop. Sometimes we like it that way. Our children grew up and matured to the stage the sexual instinct is ripe and then child confined in the prison House of the sexual instinct.
Finally, even the instinct of the boast, flaunt also controls our lives. Many people not to boast is an instinct, but all the animals all have this instinct. The need to impress, brag, flaunt themselves is an instinct. Even animals that also want to impress that they are beautiful, or powerful, or agility, or everything. We want to impress and be proud of. If bragging, show-off is not prison, it absolutely did not create the pressing and urgent for us to do. But now it is forcing us to buy nice clothes, beautiful jewelry, shoes, and buy even more beautiful him!
Why we need to have many beautiful shirts and many beautiful shoes? Why do we need all of them? (And forgive me, we pay special consideration to women here). Have the instinct to want to flaunt this existence and it is a kind of prison. Because people can not enduring it, they are forced to follow this instinct, spend all the money to shop this page everything. The instinct instinct fanfare playfulness, the most ridiculous. It is actually the prison. They never have enough money because of the type of prison. Consider the projection and carefully about what kind of instinct that we have our nursing Chief. They were all prison.
If we think about this, if we record the details of all of our costs, we will discover that some people spend more money to shop for clothes, jewelry, and preserving the beauty rather than buying food. Furthermore, they focus on the decoration and make beautiful homes, this expensive lots. Two types of this spending, combined with each other, so much more than the money they shopping for food, is essential for life. We spend more money on things not essential for life rather than on the things needed for life's needs, such as food. This is another way to see us confined in the prison of the instinct.
The senses are the prison
Next, we talk to the best prisons, the prison closest to us. We have eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind: the six sense organs (ayatana), they are also the prison. Please observe them carefully. Listen carefully to understand how that eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, Italy's we-all six senses-into the prison.
In Pali, we call them is ayatana. The root of this word literally means "the tools, the means to communicate with the outside world"-location, mechanism, means, or anything used to contact or communication with the outside world. We called them "ayatana." If you are ready, use the Pali "ayatana." All six of these ayatana is prison.
We have the upadana (permission) to life is because we have six senses, to feel, to experience, to communicate, to sample and identify the objects of senses. When upadana with six senses, we serve them and become their slave. We serve the eye to gratify the eye. We serve the ears to gratify the ear. We serve the nose to nose. We serve the tongue to tongue. We serve the skin and body sensation to make it comfortable, Nice. We serve Italian, spiritual senses, to make it soft and comfortable. This means that all our behaviour is just to entertain the senses. Everything we do is for the benefit of all six senses. We give in and become slaves of them. Then, they pressured and we control, there's no way to avoid them. We call this case was "confined in the prison of the ayatana."
Let's see whether anyone, even coffee maker that someone among you, that does not blindly serve the six senses? And you are ready to serve them, right? You endure difficulty and leaned down to mọp to serve them, always looking for ways to make the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and your comfort and happiness, voluntarily. So, we have to admit that we are slaves. People who lack the wisdom will certainly be the slave to the senses, will continue forever confined in the prison of the senses. Through the practice of mindfulness with breathing right and successful, we could escape from the prison. If we practice anapanasati inaccuracies and omissions, we will remain confined in the prison of the senses that no one can know is how long.END=NAM MO SAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.THE MIND OF ENLIGTHMENT.WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=GOLDEN LOTUS MONASTERY=AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.23/11/2015.
