TEN Reasons to practice from the past

Compassion is the basis of religion, the basis of all good dhammas, as taught by the Buddha in the Great Eightfold Nirvana Sutra: “ If someone asks what is the root of all good dhammas? Should answer: It is kindness ... This good male death (Ca Lettuce Bodhisattva)! Kindness is the Buddha nature of sentient beings. Such Buddha nature has long been concealed by defilements, making sentient beings unable to see. Buddha nature is loving-kindness, loving-kindness is Tathagata.

Sharing love with pure assets and objects for those in need is a humane, meaningful act, an expression of the compassionate mind of the practitioner. However, it is indeed flawed when one does not practice compassion and contemplation. From the shop is a method of dealing with anger, developing kindness for oneself, and for infinite sentiments, regardless of parenthood, wealth, status, religion, nation, and all over the world. this planet and all over the country.

Meanwhile, compassion is a remedy to treat harm, to develop deep understanding and compassion for the sufferings of sentient beings, is a condition for the practitioner to generate bodhicitta, because compassion has the power to overcome suffering. love. Therefore, this exercise presents ten reasons why a Buddha should practice the four-mindedness of compassion for the benefit of himself, for others, for all sentient beings, for society and for the natural environment.

1.  Immeasurable merit, unthinkable

Both the sources of the Buddhist scriptures - Nikàya (Pali) organs and the Han organs all praise the immeasurable merit, the indescribable quality of compassion. The Buddha likened all the merits to building temples, casting statues, making offerings to the Buddha and monks, doing all the good karma in the world less than one-sixth the merit of a compassionate practitioner.

The following quote in the Sangha, The Sound of the Roaring Lion (X) (20): Velàma shows the generous almsgiving of the great billionaire Brahmin Velàma when giving alms 84,000 bowls of gold filled with silver , 84,000 silver bowls filled with gold, 84,000 bronze bowls filled with jewels, 84,000 elephants decorated with gold flags with gold trim, 84,000 fine antique cars etc., the building of the monastery, offering the sangha with Buddha is the upper hand etc.

Ancient times, this Homeowner, there was a Brahmin named Velàma. Her great almsgiving as follows: The alms he gave 84,000 bowls of gold filled with silver. He gave 84,000 silver bowls filled with gold. He gave 84,000 copper bowls full of jewels. He donated 84,000 elephants with golden jewels, with golden flags, covered with gold-thread nets and 84,000 wagons, covered with lion skin, covered with tiger skin, covered with leopard leather, covered with soft yellow, with golden jewels, with golden flags, covered with gold thread nets.

He gave 84,000 dairy cows, tied with fine hemp ropes with silver milk boxes. He alms 84,000 young women, adorned with jewels. His almsgiving 84,000 beds lay covered with cotton-embroidered wool mattresses, chamois leather mattresses called kadali, mosaic panels with decks above, with red knee-legs on both sides.

He gave 84,000 yards of cloth, with some of the smoothest spines, with the smoothest silk, the smoothest wool, the smoothest cotton. And who can talk about foods and drinks, hard foods, soft ones, tasting foods and sugary drinks. "We think they flow like a river."

Maybe, this Homeowner, he thought: "Maybe Brahmin Velama is someone else, the alms in such a large way". Hey, owner, don't think so. At that time, I was Ba-la-subject Velàma, I was giving such great alms. But hey, the landlord, when that almsgiving is given, there is no one worthy person to receive it. There is no one who purifies that almsgiving.

This Homeowner, oil Ba-la-subject Velàma alms are large, if anyone gives a righteous alms, this alms is greater than the other great results. This Homeowner, oil Ba-la-subject Velama alms is large and has alms for 100 righteous people, and whoever gives alms for a First hybrid, this alms giving results greater than the other. This Homeowner, oil for Ba-la-Mon Velama alms vast, and who has alms for 100 people, and whoever gives alms to a future, this alms giving is greater than the other.

This Homeowner, oil Bra-la-Mon Velama alms is large, and has one giving alms for 100 non-realities, and someone giving alms for an A-la-Han, this alms is greater than alms that. Hey Home owner, even though Brahmin-Velama giving alms is wider, and someone gives alms to an Arahant, and does anyone give alms to a Pratyekabuddha Buddha, this alms-giving is greater. alms there. This homeowner, oil for Ba-la-subject Velama alms there is large and has alms for 100 independent of the Buddha, who has alms for Tathagata, level A-la-Han, Chief Justice, alms one fruit is bigger than the other.

Hey Homeowner, oil for Ba-la-subject Velama alms is vast, and someone gives them Female-stilts with the Buddha is the upper hand, and has anyone built a monastery for them in the four directions ... and someone with a pure mind take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, and someone with pure faith who accepts to study the Dharma, to give up killing, forsake nothing, to give up evil deeds in sensations, give up lying, give up not to be drunk on alcohol, cooked wine ... And whoever has a pure mind, accepts to study the dharma ... gives up not to be drunk on alcohol, cooked wine , and who practices lovingly liberation, until during the moment of milking the cow, one generosity is greater than the other .

Hey Homeowner, oil for Ba-la-subject Velàma alms is large, has one to give a full right view .. and who has alms 100 full of right views .. and who has one The non-future ... and who gives alms to the hundred of the non-realities, and who gives alms to an A-la-drought ... and who gives alms to the hundred A-la-droughts ... and whoever gives for a Pratyekabuddha Buddha, and someone giving alms to the Pratyekabuddha of the Buddha, and someone giving alms to the Tathagata, the Arahant, the Right Enlightenment ... and someone giving them to the Male-on stilts Buddha is the leader, and who has built a monastery for them in the four directions ... and someone with pure mind takes refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha ... and whoever has pure mind accepts study the Dharma, give up killing ... give up drunkenness, alcohol cooking ... and someone even in a moment of milking cows, practicing kindness, and someone even in a moment of flicking finger practice, impermanent practice,This generosity is larger than that.

In the Sutra of Nhu Thi Ngu (Little Ministry), the Buddha likened the merit of the cultivator to the full moon light which surpasses all the light of the stars, is compared to all the merits that we have performed. in life.

Once again in the Great Eight Nirvana Sutra, Pham Hanh (Han Tibet) shows the indescribable merit of the word contemplation through the following verses:

Assume the first five information

East all over this land

There is a monarch

Upgrade enough utensils

Elephants horse widgets

To be blessed

Not by cultivating kindness

In the sixteenth

Obviously, Thich Ton's teachings on compassion and contemplation show that the Buddha emphasized the cultivation of mind (inner heart without anger, no harm) rather than focusing on external objects (giving, giving, building pagodas, casting statues, etc.) to accumulate merit without practice in mind. Saying so does not mean that the Buddha denied the great merits of giving.

Almsgiving, offering to do charity work in the world will be steadfast, far-reaching, fulfilled and much more pervasive thanks to compassion nourished through compassion meditation. In other words, once the interior is filled with love, then doing charity work, or giving alms, offering, and sustaining the Three Jewels, will be easily accomplished and enduring.

2.  Tame anger

Anger makes you insecure, the cause of suffering, of hatred and fear. Anger is an unwholesome karma, but in many sutras, anger is like a fire that only momentarily burns a forest of merit. Anger first makes us suffer and ugly face, embrace hatred, people alienate themselves, sleep poorly, die in ignorance and after death are reborn in the land.

Those are the seven disadvantages of an angry mind. To transform the suffering and pain caused by anger, from the shop is an effective therapy. In the Central Sutras, the Buddha said that from the liberating mind, it has the power to tame anger, to bring inner peace to the practitioner (Eleven Gioi Gate, Pure Mind practice).

3.  Settling hatred

Family discord, wives fight misfortune, all over the place conflicts, wars, and persecution happen often due to hatred, the result of anger, making people's lives become stifling. To dispel hatred, and to live peacefully, is nothing more than cultivating compassion through the practice of compassion contemplating on the spirit of understanding and love, understanding and understanding.

Story 282 in the Buddha's predecessor in the Little Sutras tells the story of a king who, through compassion, surrendered his country to the king, saving both nations into war, death as the following quote:

The other king has come here, destroying the land hoping to take Barnabas again. Please let us go and arrest him!

- I don't want to keep the kingdom by killing - the king said - Don't do anything.

The king robbed the other country and surrounded the city. The elders approached the king again and said:

- My Lord, United Kingdom, please be mindful. Please allow us to arrest him!

- Do nothing - said the king - Open the gates of the city.

Then the king sat solemnly on the pedestal, among the princes of the court.

The king robbed the country into the city, took down the gatekeepers and entered the palace. Here, he arrested the king and his courtiers, tied the chains and put everything in prison. The king sitting in a prison gave pity to those who robbed the other country, his extreme grief welled up in him. Because of that mercy, that king suddenly felt a pain in his body, his whole body burned twice as much as the fire. Irritated by felony, he asked his courtiers why.

They replied:

- You have imprisoned a righteous king, that's why you are like that.

He immediately asked Bo-slaps to forgive him, to return the kingdom

4.  Dispose of bad karma

King A Xa The gave birth to his father because of the crime of killing his father, and gave birth to fear. While his mind was tormented by his crimes, King A Xa The was advised by the righteous courtier Ky Bà to come to the Buddha to ask for repentance, in which the following passage shows that cultivating a good mind can neutralize evil karma. big:

Creating more evil than one good thing. Lower gods heard Buddha say that cultivating a good mind destroys hundreds of evil. Just like a little needle can destroy Mount Tu Di and a little fire can burn everything. Likewise, a little good can destroy great evil karma. Although it is called a little good, it is really great because it can destroy great evil karma.

Cultivating a little benign mind to neutralize great negative thoughts, what if the practitioner of compassion contemplate every day, every hour, at any time, all postures:  When standing, or walking, sitting or lying down, rest in mindfulness. This, as long as while awake, is the ultimate life

5.  Tame wild beasts

In the Sutras of the Great Eight Nirvana, Pham Hanh, the Buddha entered from his mind to subdue the fierce drunken elephant that De Bodhidharma released to destroy the Buddha (p. 519).

During the Buddha's lifetime, there were a number of monks who were bitten to death by poisonous snakes while meditating in the forests. That is why the Blessed One only taught meditation to spread loving-kindness (from the shop) to the monks to protect the body, and to overcome poisonous snakes and beasts as in the forerunner story No. 203 in the Little Ministry of Business as follows:

Ancient times, when King Brahmadatta who ruled Ba-la-complaint, Bodhisattva was born in the family of a Brahmin in Kàsi. When the Bodhisattva reaches adulthood to end all senses, ordain as a Taoist, attain the Vipassana and Meditations, then build up a retreat at a bend of the Ganges near the foot of Snow Mountain and live there, enjoy the same peaceful meditation with the surrounding Taoists.

At that time, there were many types of snakes on the banks of the Ganges river that harmed the Taoists, and most of them were destined for it. The ascetic monks reported having sex with the Bodhisattva. He gathered all the ascetic monks together, and said:

- If you train lovingly on these four types of snake king families, the snakes will not bite you, so starting from now on, train from the heart like that with the four snake kings.

Then Bo-slaps read the first verse:

It arises from the Center
With Vi-ru-pak-kha,
I arose from Center
With E-ra-pa-tha,
we arise from Center
With chab-Bya-put-me,
I arose from the mind
Kan-galaxy -go-ta-ma.

Thus, after naming the four snake king families, Bo-slaps said:

- If you can practice loving-kindness towards these animals, then the serpents will not bite, and will not persecute you.

Then Bo-slaps read the second verse:

With legless species
I aroused kindness,
With bipedal species
I aroused kindness,
With four-legged species
I arose kindness,
Many feet or no legs
I arose kindness.

Thus, after stating the practice of his kindness, the Bodhisattva said the prayer with the verse:

Do
n't harm Me,
Bipedal creatures, Do
n't harm Me,
Four-legged creatures Do
n't harm Me,

multipedes Don't harm Me.

Then clearly stating the practice is not limited, Bo-slaps read more this verse:

All beings, and
all beings,
whatsoever all sentient kind
Presence in the world,
Looking forward to see the good,
let no do evil.

Thus, the Bodhisattva says:

- Practice loving-kindness towards all beings without restrictions.

Then the Bodhisattva praised the merits of the Three Treasures to the audience:

- Immeasurable is Buddha, immeasurable is Dharma, immeasurable is Sangha.

The Bodhisattva continued:

- Remember the merits of this Trinity.

After presenting the merit of the Trinity, which is immeasurable, the Bodhisattva clearly states that all beings are limited, the Bodhisattva added:

- Reptiles, snakes, scorpions, hundred-legged species, spiders, termite snakes, rats, all have a limited number.

Then Bo-slaps said:

- Because the inner lust of these beings makes them limited.

After stating so, Bo-slaps added:

- May we be protected day and night against these limited beings thanks to the power of the immeasurable Three Treasures. So remember to note the merit of the Trinity.

Then the Bodhisattva read this verse to clarify the need to do more:

Now I am protected,
Now I am protected,
Creatures,
Go away, stay away!
I pay homage to the Blessed One,
And the seven Buddhas-da, the
Buddhas have passed away.

Thus Bo-slaps advise:

While paying homage, keep in mind the seven Buddhas.

Then Bo-slaps gave this protective mantra to the Taoists.

Starting from there, the masters obey the advice of the Bodhisattva, practice from the heart, remember the merits of the Buddhas. Thus, thanks to those masters memorizing the virtues of the Buddhas, all snakes are gone. And the Bodhisattva practiced the Pham (Four Immeasurable Minds) and was born to the Brahma world.

6.  Don't fail in your meditation

In the Sangha Sutra, which talks about the One Dhamma, the Buddha says a sentence:  `` If a mendicant practices Tu Quan, even if he only practices for a while, the time is equal to the snap of his hand, then the beggar That monk already deserves to be a mendicant. '' '  That statement shows that Tu Quan is very important in Buddhism.

Buddha continued:  `` That mendicant will not fail in his meditation, will do as his master instructed, will respond to the advice of the masters. And he does not eat a meal of faith . '' If the mendicant practices Tu Quan, what merit is more, and greater?

7.  Fearless, fearless

When the interior is not angry, love fills all sentient beings in all the dharma realms, hatred is no longer in the interior, then fearlessness and fearlessness are inevitable.

In the Little Sutras there is a story about Buddha's forerunner born in a village. One day, the Bodhisattva formed a group dedicated to doing good deeds such as building bridges, digging wells, giving alms etc. Thanks to perseverance in good deeds, the Bodhisattva's reputation was known to the whole village. This makes the head of the village jealous and slanderous that this whole group of charity steals and submits to the king. This King was careless without any investigation, and ordered the group to be executed by having the elephants trampled on.

The Bodhisattva advised the group to calm down, not to be afraid, but to start with the elephants. Thanks to the arising of compassion, the elephants kept away, did not step on the body, making the king amazed. Thus, the king questioned the Bodhisattva and knew the truth. The Bodhisattva and the group were not only vindicated but also highly rewarded by the king (Little Bo Sutra, the Buddha's forerunner story- Story…).

8.  Liberation

As in the Central Sutras No. 52 Bat Thanh, practitioners from the mind of liberation, profoundly liberated compassion, pleasant feeling arises, and the realization of this pleasant feeling is due to the practice of diligently practicing loving kindness. liberation, is a conditioned, impermanent, so it is subject to destruction. From here contemplation cup of greed, contemplative Tanh Tanh won the cessation, detachment control nature of this law, will be liberated (Eleven Liberation Door, Pure Mind practice).

9.  The means depending on the conditions of living beings, the bodhisattva practice

In Increase Business Best Agama, Bhagavan also considerate extension tons Bhikshus initiates power pronoun bicua Buddhas sake beings:  "The Buddhas Bhagavan achievements compassionate, took compassion as power manhde benefits widely available to living beings. So, monks! Remember to practice this great compassion. Thus, monks, should learn this "  .

 10. Eleven benefits of custom

The Bhikkhu-khưu, From the mind of liberation is practiced, practiced, made fullness, composed into a chariot, formed into a base, continued to dwell, accumulated, cleverly started. the news is expected to be eleven benefits. What is eleven?

(1) Peaceful sleep, (2) peaceful awakening, (3) no nightmares, (4) admired by humans, (5) unpopularity, (6) protectors of heaven, (7) no fire, poison, touch, (8) quick concentration of mind, (9) clear face, (10) common destiny not to kiss; (11) if you can not enter the legal method (A-la-Han result), is born up to breaking the world.

The Bhikkhu-khưu, From the mind of liberation is practiced, practiced, made fullness, composed into a chariot, formed into a base, continued to dwell, accumulated, cleverly started. the news is expected to be eleven benefits.

Conclusion:  Compassion contemplation is a practical meditation practice, has the power to transform suffering and pain into happiness, happiness, liberation, nirvana. Compassion contemplation is a means to cultivate the compassionate mind of a Buddha, especially those who generate bodhicitta for their own benefit, for human benefit, for the society and for the natural environment.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY=27/8/2020.
