Do not do evil, Should do good deeds, Self-purification of mind.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.
We study Buddhism, so we should give up this old habit. Sitting in meditation and reciting Buddha's name are just the outward appearance of studying Buddhism. If daily life does not accumulate merit, then in zazen old habits arise again. Therefore, we should fundamentally correct these old habits immediately.
Do not do all evil,
Accomplish good deeds,
Mind kept pure,
It is the Buddha's teachings.
The Dhammapada - The Buddha's Product - verse 183
We study Buddhism, so we should give up this old habit. Sitting in meditation and reciting Buddha's name are just the outward appearance of studying Buddhism. If daily life does not accumulate merit, then in zazen old habits arise again. Therefore, we should fundamentally correct these old habits immediately.
What is the basic word? That is to correct in our six senses (eye, ear, body, mind, body, mind) the six senses are all the basics in our daily life. Therefore, in our daily life, we start from the six senses "not to do evil deeds, but to do good deeds". We make the six senses pure, purifying the impurities in life. As long as we make our mind pure every day, we will be at ease, free from worries, sorrows, regrets, etc., then that is meditation.

Therefore, we learn to practice Buddhism, so we should give up these old habits, but even in our daily lives, "do not do evil things but do good deeds" is to prove that we have successfully cultivated, that is the way. to study Buddhism. "Do not do evil but do good" is a very normal thing, unlike the four meditations, eight meditations, only meditation, etc., so we look down on it. Thus, we study Buddhism as well as go to the theater without the risk of birth and death. If that's the case, then our Faith and Vows are unjust, and if it's not right, we'll fall into some wrong paths. A true believer who despises the practice of “doing no evil, often doing good” has taken a curvy road that is prone to encountering other obstacles. This seems so simple, yet so profound.
Buddha taught that: All the actions in our daily life are outward manifestations of the inner thoughts that arise. There is no difference between the outer actions and the inner thoughts. When we achieve any state in zazen, which level of meditation is compatible with the merits and virtues of cultivation in our daily lives. If one accumulates high merit and virtue, it is easy to attain a high state when zazen. And conversely, an ordinary person who does not create merit, deep karma, even if he meditates for a lifetime, he will not achieve anything.
Normally, when we say spiritual practice, we immediately think of sitting meditation or something very far away; In fact, practicing cultivation is accumulating merit, cultivating 37 articles of support, six degrees of ten thousand Hanh. But it's not just purely seeking external blessings, but "self-cleansing" (making one's mind pure and pure). A lot of people think that "self-cleansing" is the practice of zazen, reciting Buddha's name. I don't think it's quite right, "self-cleansing ideas" is the work of "the evil deeds, they serve well" that's all. When practicing, "the evil people work, they serve" is the administrative work, while meditating and reciting the Buddha's name is the assistant practice. I feel that a lot of people underestimate the meaning of "the evil acts, they serve well" in this verse. These two sentences are not only the basic thought of the Sixth Patriarch Dan Kinh: "Doing the right thing is the way", also correspond to the sentence "died world vi teacher".

Some people define Tam no contraband as follows: precepts are precepts; Zen is zazen, that's also wrong. The true implication of Tam no contraband learning is "human world concentration, human concentration develops wisdom". It can also be said that the practice of upholding the precepts is the work of "the evil ones, they serve them well". When precepts are matured, they will naturally develop concentration. Concentration here is not zazen. Concentration is not only found in Buddhism but also in non-Buddhists. Sitting meditation is just a kind of aid.
“The evil people act, they serve well, they purify themselves, and the Buddhas” is indeed a wonderful instruction containing the great compassion of the Sakyamuni master. He established the right path for posterity to study Buddhism for us. It is very easy to practice, everyone can do it. One day to achieve one day, a person can do good things is not difficult, it is difficult to do good deeds in a lifetime without doing bad deeds, achieving this problem is really not easy, that is the practice. So "the evil acts, they serve well" is also easy to do but not easy. "The evil acts, they serve well" is the way to the "self-purification of the mind". It is also the profound method of the "emptiness" of the self-realization. Usually, we grasp the principle of non-self from the teachings, and in fact do not fully understand it. Only practice, Finally, can the true evidence of no-self. If you want to meditate and meditate to seek to understand "no" but in daily life without the elaborate guarantee of behavior, you can't understand the reason of "no". Because we sit there and do nothing! no! Then it is the word "self" asking for nothing, making the consciousness in the realm think that there is a little bit of emptiness but the "self" is still there. Asking "no" like that is just lying to yourself. If you can't do the reason of no-self, it's all fake. If a person in daily life often thinks of others, but forgets about himself, he has experienced the emptiness of not-self.
Here I think again of the Sixth Patriarch Dan Kinh. People who later read the Six Patriarch Dan Kinh paid little attention to the Sutra's method of enlightenment. The Six Patriarch's method of enlightenment is built on the basis of the saying "righteous work is the way". Not having this ordinary practice of "doing right is the way" is like building a building in the sky. In the Six Patriarchs Sutra, because of the superior ability and superior wisdom, he established the law-making method to win enlightenment, and at the same time, it also emphasized the common practice of "righteous work is the way" like "If the mind is calm, what should be done to uphold the precepts?" If you practice correctly, what is the point of practicing meditation?" Speaking of the same method of enlightenment, it is also a daily practice, a daily practice of a person of superior capacity. And speaking of people of superior capacity is not only for intelligent people, but only for those with deep good karma who have a straight mind. Only those who have deep good karma, thick and square, accumulate work to a certain extent, and the conditions of maturity are like ripe fruit falling and enlightenment. So the motto "doing right is the way" along with the method of cutting enlightenment, in terms of elaboration is the same; The former is to speak highly of the cause, the latter because of the importance of the effect. That's why the Sixth Patriarch said, "Buddha Dharma is in the world, not separated from the world but enlightened, if you separate from the world and seek Bodhi, it is like looking for the hair of a tortoise with the horns of a hare". We read the Dan Sutra anyway should not be fascinated by the description of the external appearance of the method of enlightenment such as: "In a moment, false thoughts disappear, if one realizes the self-nature, once enlightened, one will become a buddha." . It's not wrong to declare that the six ancestors established such means. But we Buddhists think that is wrong, it's delusional.

What I feel the saddest is that since the time when the Tang Zen school developed, sitting meditation is like a movement, everyone keeps staring at the method of enlightenment and wants to immediately become a Buddha, but the problem is "the evil deeds, they tend to serve” is rarely thought about. Even fell into a controversy between the two methods of cutting and selling. This is the concern of Buddhism. It is not advisable to throw away the basics of Buddhism and go in search of small branches and leaves. In all the Tripitaka scriptures, the 12 sets are the basic and basic things to analyze clearly: what is the right practice of the right path. The 37 teaching aids, six degrees, and four photography are all important teachings of Buddhism, which is also the current vitality of Buddhism. The Sixth Patriarch Sutra, because of the superior ability, established the method of enlightenment, and at the same time also contains the method of gradual practice, "the dharma does not cut enlightenment, only fast or slow". “The Dharma is not inherently cut-throat, only human beings benefit from their basic and basic faculties. Self-consciousness of the mind, self-view of the four natures, ie no difference. So setting up a shop is just a pretense."
If we carefully read the historical bibliography and the "Dang Luc", it will be easy to see that the ancient monks and nuns all attached great importance to "right conduct" in daily life, as Ma To Dao Nhat said "peace of mind". that is the requirement that we practice in our daily life. In the modern and contemporary times, like the great Master Hu Van and the current venerable virtues, they also wholeheartedly advise their disciples that studying Buddhism should begin with "righteous conduct", which is the basis of Buddhism. In the past, people often came to me and asked me, "What is meditation?", I answered them, "don't think about it, don't think about it, that's meditation". We often practice "the evil deeds, they are good to serve" every day for the purpose of contemplation not to realize selflessness, not for seeking blessings. If for the purpose of praying for blessings, you will fall into attachment to the generals and cannot escape birth and death, overcome reincarnation of the six paths. This makes us think of the society's role models, they are all good people, because the society is dedicated, they should be chosen as an example, but then feel a lot of pressure and fatigue. Because they accept generals, their hearts are entangled in honor, example, ...
People who study Buddhism should even in their daily lives give up evil and do good, practice the right way, not accept the generals, follow the logic, be free from obstacles, and eventually will realize Buddhahood. And the truth is, we all affirm that if we do a good job, everyone will praise us, and we will feel happy in our hearts, eat well and sleep well. But if one day we do something bad, people look down on us even though they don't say anything, but in our hearts we also feel guilty, we can't eat well. Therefore, no matter what, we should not underestimate the work in daily life. It's scary, a small act, a small idea, all affect our inner self. That's why today we renew the two verses "the evil acts, they serve well". Hopefully everyone will understand the pain of "my old song".END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=BUDDHIST DHARMA WHEEL GOLDEN MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.21/12/2021.
