Introductory
Sutra Great Mindfulness is an extremely important business for those who practice Vipassana because all instructions directly or indirectly on the Buddha's meditation is recorded a concise way of doing this . If you are sincere and serious in Vipassana meditation, you have unobstructed sutta.
The paraphrase of sutta in this book based on the notes, the notes and commentaries by Burmese by Mahasi write. He was a renowned teacher, success in teaching sessions and perhaps a Burmese meditation is best known in the West.
Name Paa.li of this text is Maaha Satipa.t.thana Sutta (Great Mindfulness), which means: "all major legal basis of mindfulness" , "Last great method of setting mindfulness" or "all major measures of mindfulness." Quang Pham In doing Maaha Satipa.t.thana Sutta (University of mindfulness), the Buddha taught the Four Foundations of Mindfulness Meditation practice or insight meditation. In the teachings of experience, there are four places to establish mindfulness. And in this book we will present and explain the four places to create awareness or mindfulness that is four.
Before doing anything, Buddhists usually pay their respects to the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. Therefore, every time you want to write a topic Buddhist Dharma usually first wrote the following sentence: Namo Tassa Sammaa-Sambuddhasaa Arahato Bhagavato . We also began this book with this sentence: I give all the sincerity glass Buddha ceremony, he is Arahant, Right Turn Tri.
I heard something like this [1]The texts (Sutta) usually begins with the introduction: I heard something like this. The word "I" here just to Venerable Ananda, cousin to the Buddha. Venerable Ananda Buddha attendant for twenty-five years. Venerable has the same age and born the same day as the Buddha. Buddha taught religion in the forty-five years, but his first twenty years without a permanent attendant; at this monk, while other monks took turns doing the attendant. Starting twenty-first year, Venerable Ananda became his permanent attendant.
It should know why Venerable Ananda was assigned to this task. In twenty-first Buddha said he needed a permanent attendant. Heard this statement many disciples are pleased to make the attendant, but all were rejected Buddha. Then in a few line basis monk Venerable Ananda recommend please do attendant, but Venerable Ananda replied: "If the Buddha really wanted me to do the main attendant he would tell me. I will not do the attendant if Buddha is not required ". So, finally, the Buddha has requested Venerable Aanada attendant.
Venerable Venerable Ananda replied that only accept attendant with some conditions. Having all eight conditions: Four things "waiver" and four "approved".
Four of rejection include:
1. The Buddha did not care for Venerable Ananda ban because Venerable as his attendant. The reason for refusal set out four conditions for Venerable Ananda did not want to get the material gains made by the Venerable attendant to the Buddha.
2. The Buddha did not give food that he had received the Venerable Ananda Venerable citing as his attendant.
3. Buddha Venerable Ananda is not covered in the room of the Buddha, or Venerable Ananda given a private room because Venerable as his attendant.
4. If anyone visiting the Buddha, the invitation meal does not include the Venerable Ananda invited inside.
Four of approval include:
Venerable Ananda 1. entitled to accept any invitation to the Buddha, and the Venerable Ananda once accepted an invitation does have to go to where the Buddha was invited there. This last section is very important because it corresponds to the question: "I heard something like this." Buddha accepted eight conditions, Venerable Ananda thus became the Buddha's attendant. He always left the Venerable Ananda theory heard the teachings and the teachings that he gave lectures during the Venerable Ananda absence. In Notes on the first book of the Abhidhamma (Abhidhamma) has recorded the Venerable Ananda praise as follows:
2. Venerable Ananda permitted, at any time, bring the faithful from afar to see the Buddha.
3. Venerable Ananda allowed to present to the Buddha immediately whenever a problem arises ,. If there are doubts, the Venerable Ananda what is allowed to see the Buddha to be cleared him suspiciously. This means that the Buddha must always be ready to answer all your questions Venerable Ananda.
4. Venerable Ananda will be the Buddha to listen to all the teachings that he gave lectures during the Venerable Ananda absence.
"An elder is someone who has a lot of experience, a scholar of Tripitaka (Pitaka). He can learn, recite and explain while standing (ie, for a moment, Venerable Ananda could learn, recite read and expounded) fifteen thousand or sixty thousand passage verses easily as picking up leaves and flowers. It is the special ability of elders. Besides Buddha taught that no one can or achieve clearly taught to remember Elder said such teachings make wall "[2]Buddha is the only one who can teach Venerable Ananda. Venerable keen intelligence, quick to grasp all the teachings of Buddha.
V "I heard something like this," and the next question was the words spoken by the Venerable Ananda during Tripitaka The first episode, which was convened approximately three months after the Buddha's death. After Buddha's death, Maha Venerable Kassapa, chief disciple of the Buddha, the General Assembly decided to convene and select five hundred Arhat attend. During the congress aggregation Tripitaka, all the teachings of the Buddha are careful collection and consideration. Only when Congress recognized the fact that the main teachings of the Buddha's teachings before being accepted into the collection and the entire congress and chants. The same chants showed that the teachings were all unanimously accepted convention that is the words taught by the Buddha himself. At the time of writing on paper the teachings of the Buddha are not common to these teachings are kept by reciting memorized only.
The teachings of the Buddha are not only legal but also recites a lot of sorting out. The most common classification is classified into Tibet (Pi.taka) includes Vinaya (Vinaya Pi.taka) - precepts of monks and nuns, Tripitaka (Sutta Pi.taka) - the teachings of the Buddha and Tibetan Abhidhamma (Abhidhamma Pi.taka) - the profound teachings. Sutta (Maaha Satipa.t.thana Sutta) belongs Tripitaka. The teachings of Buddha are kept from generation to generation by word of mouth, it was not until five hundred years later, since the Buddha passed away, the new release was written on leaves in Sri Lanka.
As noted above, first Maha Venerable Kassapa questioned by the teachings of the Buddha and Venerable answer two questions of Venerable Kassapa. Venerable Upali replied to Vinaya (Vinaya) and the Venerable Ananda answered in Tripitaka (Sutta). All segments including eighty-four thousand discourses.
When Venerable Maha Kassapa questioned the Beijing University of mindfulness (Maaha Satipa.t.thana Sutta), Venerable Ananda answered, beginning with the sentence: I heard something like this. As said: I heard something like this, Venerable Ananda has removed his personal capacity when repeating the teachings of Buddha and only act as a witness when reciting the Buddha's teachings to this. He summarized the teachings of Buddha to make sure the legal repertoire guide for those who want to go on the path of liberation. Venerable has created a strong faith where the sky and the Venerable asserting: "These are the words which I have heard from the place of the Buddha, therefore, should not be confused or skeptical these teachings or ideas about meaning, about the sentence or rhyme. "
I heard something like this. A childhood and that, Blessed Are In Kuru parish where there was a town named Kamma-sadamma."One of the other early": Although Venerable Ananda aware of this theory point out, but only for brief Venerable said: "One the other youth." For Venerable, perhaps, to save time, but for us, those who belong to another era, then this is not a lucky thing because we do not understand exactly what this business was theory out at any time. Venerable Ananda If interested in those details, we can put this experience and the other in the order of time (chronology). But now we can not do that, we can only guess doing business are yet speaking only.
"In Kuru": Kuru is the name of a county or a small parish in India. The voice Paa.li the Kuru must be written in the plural. Primitive "Kuru" is the name of the first people to reside in this country. Later this name was used to refer to a possible origin, many also remain unchanged. Thus, although only one county but letters Paa.li may require in the plural, so known Paa.li spelled " Kurusu " (plural of the word Kuru ).
"In the land of Kuru has a town named Kammasadamma ": The reason why the town is called Kammasadamma because this place cannibal king named Kammasapada (foot spotted) tamed become an honest king . Some people like to write is Kammaasa-dhamma, explained that this town was so named by the people Kuru has traditionally practice the teaching (dhamma) in a good way (kammaasa).
There, the Buddha taught the master monk says: "Behold the master monk." And the monk he said: "fiat, venerable sir." And the Blessed One spoke as follows:Buddha used to call the monks is Bhikkhu (monk). Bhikkhu is the noble life of dignity and practice the Dhamma. But when using the word Bhikkhu does not mean that the Buddha did not say to those who are not religious. Anyone who accept and practice the teachings of the Buddha are called Bhikkhu . Therefore, when the Buddha said: "Behold the master monk," it must be understood that both the monks and nuns and the laity who are talking about.
This is the only way to purify the (center) beings, ending worries, frustrations mourning, disease and heart disease kill themselves, achieve enlightenment and enlightenment Nirvana. It is the Four Foundations of Mindfulness."This is the only way": To understand this question you have to understand the words Paa.li the word "only way". Dictionary Paali only path is called " ekaayaana ". Eka means one and ayaana mean streets. So ekaayana means a road. The word " ekaayana " be interpreted in five ways:
a) The first meaning is: This is the path of "lone '' no turn. Since there is no fork should you go on this way you are guaranteed from the beginning until the liberation."To purify beings": That is, to purification of beings. Heart of all beings contaminated by various kinds of afflictions. Our mind almost always clean, always be greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance tame. This kinds of negativity polluting our mind. Vipassana helps us to purify the mind. This is the only way to purify the heart of all beings. While you practice Vipassana meditation, the defilements such as greed, anger, ignorance or arrogance etc ... temporary absence. When you reach Nibbana, your mind completely break away from all the negativity. Take this road we will reach the highest floor and enlightened the mind will be completely clean.
b) The second meaning is: Must go 'alone' on this road. In meditation you have to make a single journey, not a companion. You can stay in the team, you can stay in a training course, but really you go on your own path. you alone. no one was with you. no one can give you the attention and wisdom of them, and you do not can give the attention, and your wisdom to whom is all. Therefore, although you can stay in a group, but actually you are meditating alone. Therefore, this is the way "unique", " the way you have to go alone. "
c) That Tuesday: "This is the path of one who". "The path of one who" means "the way of the Most Sublime", the path of the Buddha found.
d) That Wednesday: "This is the only way" because this path only leads to a single goal, that is Nirvana; therefore you go on this road you will definitely reach the target. Therefore, Nirvana is the only goal that you reach when you go on this road.
e) That Thursday: "This is the only path leading to Nirvana", there is no other way. Satipa.t.thaana or righteous path is the only path to Nibbana, the cessation of suffering , destroy all sorrows.
"Termination worries, frustrations mourn" : Anxiety sorrow, mourning frustrations can be tamed by Vipassana. Vipassana meditation when you have to get to know everything that happens where you are. You have recorded each one thing comes to you in the present moment. When you get to know everything, when you observe things in meditation, the negativity can not appear. When you reach the last floor is Arhat, any worries, lamenting your frustrations are eradicated. There are a lot of people through insight meditation that worries, frustrations mourning was tame.
"Kill the body and heart disease patients": Body disease, and heart disease can be tamed through Vipassana meditation. When sitting in meditation for a long time you feel the pain, but if you patiently observe or recognize the pain and when your concentration is strong, then the pain will disappear and you tame the pain. You can conquer disease through Vipassana meditation center. When you reach the highest floor, the pain and grief of your heart will be destroyed completely.
"To reach the path" : this is a kind of Noble appeared at heart enlightened. When enlightened yogis truth, Nirvana, is a type of consciousness arises in them is called "spirituality". They are called "spirituality" because when the heart reaches the floor, then you have achieved nirvana on the way (religion) this.
There are four stages of enlightenment levels should also have four kinds of spirituality. Each spirituality eradicated some negativity, and when reached Wednesday spirituality then all defilements are eradicated. To reach Qingdao, achieved consciousness capable eradicated this kind of negativity four foundations of mindfulness is the only way.
"Enlightenment Nirvana" : We can say reached the holy religion and spirituality means to reach enlightenment Nirvana is reached attainment. After directing mind is about right results. If there is little understanding of the Abhidhamma (Abhidhamma) , then you will understand clearly on this issue. It should be added that both the spirituality and the results are mind takes Nibbana as object and "see" Nirvana directly. Both point in time is called enlightenment Nirvana.
In short, the Buddha taught, this is the only way to purify your mind, to quell worries, frustrations mourn, to kill disease and heart disease itself, to achieve enlightenment and Nirvana Enlightenment. And the only way is nothing but four foundations of mindfulness.
Four (or where establishing mindfulness mindfulness) What is it? This monk masters, here, according to this teaching, teacher observation monk body within the body, ardent, clearly aware and mindful to remove all craving and grief (anger) on earth.Such is the brief teaching Vipassana meditation. Yogis observe the body itself. That is how to meditate. You observe and mindfulness of the body itself. The word itself is repeated here to make sure you keep in mind: while the concept itself, you just stop to contemplate the body in the trunk of the body rather than life concept, idea or concept itself in the center of the legal body.
"Essential needs, awareness and mindfulness": This question is very important because it tells you clearly how to meditate. When you meditate, when you observe yourself in the body means that when you record everything that happens in the body; you must be very ardent, awareness and mindfulness. Refined means that you need to make an effort, trying to remember or keep track of what is happening in your body. If there is no essential need, you can not focus on the object and can not meditate. Keep the mind on the subject is not easy, so there should be more ardent efforts.
You need to "awareness and mindfulness" : When you meditate, you must always be mindful. You have to concentrate on the breath or abdominal movement, posture and the small impact of the body. Mindfulness is like hitting a stone wall. Want to throw stones, you have to use effort. You throw the stones to try and touch the stone wall. Mindfulness touch object is like hitting a stone wall. Oil is the subject whatsoever - breathing, abdominal movements or small impact of the body - mind you also have to navigate to the object. The crash is centered on the object of mindfulness.
When mindfulness collaboration with diligent, your mind will lie on the object for a while. When touching the stone wall, if the wall is plaster stone wet mud will stick to that. Likewise, when the mind goes to the object and being mindful and diligent support would be located on the object. When the heart is located on the object are called to. Therefore, when you are mindful, you'll be making. Only when your mind is to develop new and wisdom to understand the nature of things, understanding things clearly. So when it comes you must be aware and mindful also means you have to have the heart. There must be alert because it is intellectual.
Moreover, mindfulness and concentration among Concentration of the Eightfold Path. Eightfold Path consists of eight limbs, divided into three groups: Gender, Samadhi and Panna. Right Understanding, Right Thought belong to Hue. Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood belong Realms. Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, Right Concentration Concentration belong. Want to practice a limb must be practiced all the same group. So here Mindfulness also means positioning among Dinh.
Upon concentration, when interest in the subject for some time, you will see the nature of mind and body. You will see that they are impermanent, unsatisfactory (dukkha) and no nature or beyond the control or its control (non-self). When having enough concentration, you will see the birth and death of the body and mind. Meanwhile, if any thought comes to you, you just need to recognize them, they will disappear soon. You just can clearly see this when you get the attention needed.
There are four factors that help you meditate nice. First, efforts must be diligent. Second: to practice mindfulness. Third: to develop concentration. Fourth: to be mindful. These are the four elements that all serious yogis have developed sufficiently to reach the ultimate goal is enlightenment.
As the saying: "Effort, mindfulness, and mindfulness", the Buddha teaches you how to meditate, how to observe things, how to monitor breathing, abdominal movements and the small impact of the body as well as observe how the feeling, observe and contemplate the French mind (dhamma) . Therefore, when you meditate, you should attempt to cultivate mindfulness enough concentration scrutinizes the nature of things.
"Get rid of craving and aversion (sorrow) in the earth": The word "the earth" here means the body or aggregates of grasping. "Craving" is greed, craving, clinging, and grief (anger) here is malice, anger or sorrow. Through the above Buddha showed disturbing things that we need to eliminate. He also shows the results of meditation, the result of effort, mindfulness and mindfulness.
When you are diligent, mindfulness, concentration and wisdom, you will eliminate the craving and grief (anger). Eliminate the attachment and anger that you remove are two types tremendous obstacles. There are five types of obstacles all (will be explained later), but greed and hatred are the two largest. When you can eliminate two major obstacles to this type, then you can remove the remaining stumbling block is smaller than the other. When you are aware of breath or abdominal movement, or sensation, or small impact in the body, then at that time you will have no greed or attachment, without malice or hatred. Each every moment, you get rid of the obstacles on.
There are two exclusions: "moment exclusion" (exclusion in every moment one) and "temporary exclusion". During the "moment exclude" the obstacle is removed every moment one. At this moment, the obstacles are not present, but moments later, the obstacles can back out. We are only at the moment when exclusion has good mental arising and presence of mind (mental friendly when they will arise occupancy unwholesome mental states). "Temporary exclusion" is excluded in a longer time "moment exclusion". Venerable Mahasi explained "temporary exclusion" as follows:
'' When the student persistence phenomenon observed each body and mind going on and clearly understand each phenomena are impermanent, unsatisfactory, selfless and beautiful, the effort, mindfulness and concentration will develop. Due to this development, the student mind becomes pure, refined to the point of greed and hatred can not start even on the current object is not observed. Now, when you focus on your breath and recite silently example "in out, in out," then even before you have a solid concentration, you also have the moment. Then you get back to your wandering mind and come back, then you are wandering again etc .. At the moment there is the care you take and remove the pitch, you have " excluded moment ". At this moment a disturbing excluded and in the next moment, afflictions may reoccur.
Even when resting yogis, crude forms of craving and aversion minister is not making student start the impression that the Minister of craving and aversion rough this can never arise again. Through mindfulness, thanks to the presence of these elements in the group to which the afflictions of the object observed and unobserved objects are tame. This condition is called "temporary exclusion."
It is the elimination of craving and aversion. Meditators will have experience of these two types of exclusion. Every time observation, student will have "excluded moment" on the subject to observe and "temporary exclusion" on the object is not observed. Want to get two benefits this exclusion yogis to practice physical observation, observing every physical phenomenon is happening clearly in the present moment. That is what the Buddha taught.
(The instructions of how to meditate Mahasi will be discussed in more detail in Part Three.)
After a while, when your meditation progressing well and you can keep the attention on the object of a longer period of time, the negativity was "temporary exclusion" for a while longer. Then you will see that, even on subjects not been observed, also dominated negativity. When you reach this advanced level floor, you have removed the affliction by "temporary exclusion". Because of this exclusion only temporary character should afflictions will come back to you when you give up meditation.
Also a different kind of exclusion, that is "permanently excluded". "Permanently excluded" will be achieved at the moment spirituality, ie at the time of enlightenment Nirvana. Therefore, when reached spirituality, you will eliminate, terminate, eradicate, eliminate all kinds of obstacles and other afflictions. Once permanently excluded, they would not come back to you again.
Master monk observed in life expectancy, ardent, mindful awareness and to eliminate every craving and grief (anger) in the earth. The term " in the earth" here means "in the Life". Yogis remember or concentrate on your feelings. There are three kinds of feelings: happy life, unpleasant and neutral (unpleasant). Yogis recognize all his sensations are happening in the present moment.
Master monk observing mind in mind, ardent and mindful awareness to eliminate every craving and grief (anger) in the earth. The term " in the earth" here means "in the center". The object for meditation here is to observe the different types of consciousness. There are similarities with the participating interest, which corresponds to the golf center, which corresponds to the center si etc ... When you want something and you are willing to recognize this by noting want, want, want is you observes interoperability with participating interest. Similarly, when you are angry and you recognize your anger by noting angry, angry, angry as you are watching the mind corresponds to pitch etc ...
Master monk observing the legal measures, ardent, mindful awareness and to eliminate every craving and aversion (sorrow) in the earth. The word "the earth" here means "in France". The word is the translation of the French word Dhamma in English Paa.li. Dhamma has a lot of meaning and the letter Paa.li most difficult to translate into another language. Some translators dhamma is "subject of interest". Although such services are not entirely wrong, but does not include the meaning of the word dhamma . So to leave it better not to translate.
You will understand what is dhamma when you read the chapter on observations to France. A brief word in this chapter comes to legal obstacles in the spirit, the five aggregates, the six internal and six external base units, seven legal assistance or seven Factors of Enlightenment Bodhi and the Four Noble Truths. When you have a desire in your mind and perception by noting there is desire, there is desire, there is a desire, it is the legal concept. They are mental obstacles. When you have an anger in your mind and perception by noting: there is anger, there is anger, there is anger that you have the legal concept etc ...
-oOo-
This is a summary of the four foundations of mindfulness or four places contemplation: observation body (body concept), to observe life (life anniversary), to observe the mind (thoughts about) and to observe legal (legal concept). You will see in Beijing ( Sutta ) have more repetitive. This is unavoidable. You must understand that this business as well as all the other teachings of the Buddha in an era of no books. The teachings of the Buddha have to memorize. When you want to learn how to remember a passage, you need to repeat several times. By repeating this you will understand that the deeper passages. Likewise, when you hear someone say that you do not back part was listening as you read. The repetition helps you understand more fully so that you can master more reasonable. Although the repetition might make you boring, but this can not be avoided.END=NAM MO SAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.THE MIND OF ENLIGHTENMENT.WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=GOLDEN LOTUS MONASTERY=AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.29/2/2016.MHDT.
