Take yourself up the torch that goes.

Buddha emphasized two points, let yourself be a lamp unto yourself, make yourself leaning y, y not leaning one else. Take the Dharma as a lamp, take the Dhamma as a refuge, not lean on something else.
Once, when the Buddha was ill at Beluva, before anxiety distress Venerable Ananda (School III, page 101), and another time, before Sariputta private religious (Buddhist relics) were common destiny and advance the anxiety Ananda (Ananda) (Mutual V, 170), the Buddha has declared this teaching, just as brief advice can consolidate his practice method is condensed, and a word unseeingly of a masters knew dying, should have a good message and encouraged his disciples what practitioners need to practice, after the guru passed away:

- "So this Ananda, let yourself be a lamp unto yourself (atta-DIPA viharatha), let yourself lean y yourself (attasarana) y not entitled to something else. Use the Dharma as a lamp, used Dhamma as refuge, do not lean on something else ...

Ananda, in life, the monks residing in the body, enthusiasm, awareness, mindfulness, overcome covetousness and grief. Place of residence life on the feelings ... Resident shop on the heart center, residing on the legal approach, enthusiasm, awareness, mindfulness, overcome covetousness and grief.

This so Ananda, brethren himself is a lamp for himself, he leaned his own self, do not care what title one other, making lamp used Dharma, Dharma used as shelter, no refuge in a something else.

Ananda, who, now or after my passing, himself is a lamp for himself, he leaned his own self, do not care what title one another, use the Dharma as a lamp, use the Dharma do shelter, no refuge in an otherwise law, these persons, this Ananda, is the supreme position in each of my brethren, if he earnestly learn ".
 Lit the lamp of wisdom
Here for medium DIPA word means light, medium means that the island should be able to translate: the torch yourself up and go, or build your own island for yourself. Take yourself is a lamp unto yourself.

In particularly important teachings and this bizarre Buddha emphasize two points. Be a lamp unto yourself be yourself, be yourself leaning y, y not leaning one else. Take the Dharma as a lamp, take the Dhamma as a refuge, not lean on something else.  The two views can be seen as reflecting honest ethical life, practice their faith, witness of Bhagavan based on his personal experience and also fully packed all his own teachings preached during 45 years of his birth to pass on to his disciples.

Indeed, it is clear that, for more than six years aspirant, to worship and witness, Bhagavan himself using personal effort, self help himself find religion, questions directed to two masters pagan times Alara Kalama's name and Uddaka Ramaputta, made her way to practice self-mortification, self help himself to meditate, and also on their own self-development and intellectual final enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, the Right Career Equal Enlightenment.  He did not ask a god force, not the embodiment of a divine being, not the incarnation of a supreme being. He's just a man, with physical strength and mental power of man, has begun to seek guidance and successful director, had himself to worship and practice their religion with the result, was himself witness and evangelism complete the whole fullness, as we have seen in his life, if we brushed aside the later additions to deify his life.

He had to find religion and learning self-directed and self-described as follows:

"Not only Alara Kalama have faith, I also believe. Not only have diligently Alara Kalama, We also diligently. Not only Alara Kalama have thought, and I too have thought. Not just Alara Kalama have set, I also have to. Not only have intellectual Alara Kalama, I also have understanding.  So we must try to be legal proof that Alara Kalama, after self-repair and self-certified, self-proclaimed achieved. And this brethren, not long, I am self-knowledge, self-certified, self achieve that measures fastly, I dwell "(Intermediate I, 164b).

Afterwards ascetic, he also himself self-mortification practiced as he himself expressed it:

"Because I eat too little, my limbs became like the grass, or the burning withered vines. Because I eat too little, so my round table become as toenail camels. Because I eat too little, exposing my spine like a ball chain. Because I eat too little, my emaciated ribs like a stilt columns rui disrepair. Because I eat too little, so my pupils glitter lies hole deep in the eyes, like light sparkling water located deep in a deep water well ... "(Central I, 80).

Buddha after practicing asceticism no results. He decisively abandon austerity and start meditating themselves, evidence meditation, meditation second, third meditation, meditation Wednesday, develop wisdom, evidence was sufficient intelligence network, intelligence divine eye, gonorrhea take intelligent , as it is hard to know, know as truth taints, escape illegal sex, property illegally ignorance.

For itself has liberated so, understanding mind arises, "Sanh took advantage, dignity, succeeded, work should be done is done, no more callbacks this state" (Central I, 248). Thus, also with personal experiences, rid ourselves of asceticism, meditation, intellectual development, the Buddha attained Enlightenment.

For masters had to rely on self-help to the aspirant, study and evangelism, so in 45 years of preaching for the birth, his teachings primarily to practitioners as well as self-help self-knowledge teachings: "Be himself is a lamp unto yourself, make yourself leaning y yourself, do not care what title one another. Using the Dharma as a lamp, use the Dhamma as refuge, nor rely upon something else. "

First of all, the Buddha confirmed "pray" and "desire" no benefit, not only on the way to practice Dharma, but also the desire for worldly matters.

Samyutta, Volume IV, page 313 states:

"If people do ten evil deeds, then a large crowds to pray pray with hands, hoping that he would be born animal friendly, gender-friendly. The supplication so futile, because he made ten evil happiness will fall into hell for a man toss a rock into a lake, then some mass to pray, pray, pray that rock with hands that are emerging. The so imploring futile, because that stone, with its weight, can not stand up, can not drift to the shore, as the mass prayer was.

In contrast, a ten-virtue abandon, do ten good virtues, if there is a large mass to pray, pray, palms, pray that he will be born in hell, deprivation, in the prayer He did not ask to be accomplished.  He was born on animal friendly, gender-friendly, human realm. For example, a person engulfed an oil smashed into the lake and then smashed his stool, the number of oil would rise above the water.  Although there is a large mass to pray, pray, palms, bridges that the oil was sinking to the bottom water. Plea was of course no results, some oil was still floating on the water. Thus, we pray, has pleaded not have any benefit. "

Angutara IIIA, page 123 testimonials add the futility of begging and pleading. A monk is not interested in the practice, start-up desire to be liberated from the taints without grasping, certain desires are not fulfilled.  As a hen with eight, ten or twelve eggs chicken, it hamlets sit improperly, improper heat incubation, hatching improper maintenance, the oil for chickens that have kicked up the will hope that its chicks, with foot, with nails, with the mouth, as an eggshell and exit safely, hens did not get satisfaction. Wherefore? Because hens do not sit properly hamlet, not properly heated incubation, hatching not properly support.

Conversely, a focus brethren living in the practice, though no desire arises: "Hopefully my mind is freed of defilements, without clinging," yet his mind is still being freed without attachments. Wherefore? Must say that he has practiced. What have practiced? There are four foundations of mindfulness practice, with practice four primary needs, has practiced as standard four-sufficiency, have required years of practice, with practice in force, with seven enlightenment practice, has eight branches Noble practice.  For like hens, eight, ten or twelve eggs. It hamlets sit properly, heat it properly hamlet. Although the chicken was not arise desire, hope that its chicks, with foot, with nails, with mines, cracking the shell and out safely, these chicks break the shell of it and get out safely. Thus, there is no wish or desire is not a problem. The main issue is the right action, right way to lead to the desired results only.

A further passage (Middle I, page 303) emphasize the futility of begging. If operating on wrongful behavior, not how to achieve fruition. Hanh Pham wrongful conduct here mean by wrong perception, wrong thinking, wrong speech, wrong now, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, wrong set. Wherefore? As this is not the method to achieve fruition.  Then he eg oil seekers, after pouring sand into the bucket, continue to sprinkle sand for the oil juice, although he had the desire to find out oil also not be fulfilled. Wherefore? Because this is not the way to find oil. Buddha used another example, more meaningful, as a seeker of milk, a cow, horns again grabbed the milking cows, while despite a desire or not desire, it is not get milk.

Conversely, if monk or Brahmin does, have the right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, mindfulness, concentration, despite the wish or not wish, Committing acts well will reach fruition. Wherefore? Since this method is attained. For example, someone's going to oil, to the seeds after oil in barrels, then continue pressing the seeds sprinkled oil for the oil.  Although he has no wish or desire, will also get the oil. Wherefore? Knowing methods of oil. Also likened seekers milk to cows, milked from the cow udder where newborn children, despite the wishes or aspirations also found milk.

For events in life, too, not by begging, by the desire that accomplishment. Forums are people, often wished year pleasurable thing, hard to find in life such as longevity, color space, peace, good rumors, and are born of heaven. In Beijing Possession Lac (Increase IIB, page 74), the Buddha stated that This year's not so pray, not because of the desire that is, because if there's so pray, by the desire that there be, There are times in this life who wither for what probably, when only pray that will be fulfilled.  The Buddha said very clearly: For a life span can not pray or praise lifespan to human life-giving life span. Saints want to have life-disciple should practice the path to life span, leading to sharp capacity, leading to peace, brought fame to good, leading to natural birth, he was then achieved, to achieve year pleasurable things in life that you desire.

In the definition of the role of the Enterprise and Industry stated very clearly Buddha karma (Karma) means action, from the verb meaning karoti do, the action of the body, the word and the attention, but action Action had to be private mental states, ie an act of his own will do, personally decide to do, not who instigated, not by anybody false security.  Since the action was self conscious doing, himself decision making, so the Buddha determined we are the owner of Enterprise (Kammassako) we are heirs of Industry (Kamma-dayada), we have responsibility to our actions, we have ourselves subject to the results of our actions do. Dhammapada states:

"What evil do it yourself,
Himself born, his creation,
Crushed fool,
As diamond jewel. "(Dhammapada 161)

One more verse clearly identified:

"Themselves, evil doing,
Defiled yourself,
Do not themselves evil,
Purify yourself,
Purification, not pure, himself,
No one pure one ". (Dhammapada 165)

"Themselves his criticism,
Themselves his scrutiny,
Self-protection, brethren,
Mindfulness permanent peace. "(Dhammapada 379)

In a highly prestigious texts, Beijing Kalamasutta (Increase I, 213-216), the Buddha advised His disciples to believe in his place, no one else believed, believed in where the ability to judge of good and evil yourself, do you believe in a different method:

- "Hey Kalama, do you believe because the tale, do you believe because traditionally, do not believe because I hear people say, do not believe it because the canon handed, do you believe because human reasoning, Do not believe it because human reason, do not believe it after reflection on the facts and conditions, do not have believed prejudices, preconceptions, do not have information as appropriate with ability, do you believe because you Sa is subject of the Master himself.  But this Kalama, when he himself knows as follows: 'The law is immoral, and this law is guilty of a location measures were criticized, of this law if implementation and acceptance, putting textile misfortune of suffering. This time Kalama, abandon them '... But this Kalama, when he himself said as follows: "The law is good. The method is not there crime. The law, which was praised wise people. These measures if implemented and accepted, leading to happiness, this time the Kalama, be attained and dwell '... ".

Once aware of his ability can distinguish between good and evil, the Buddha taught should take care alone, y not just someone else, as the following verse states:

"The title wanderer,
Y not just one,
Do not make love,
No effect of hatred.
Therefore, in sorrow than,
In miserly avarice,
Like water on their leaves,
Wettability do not remember ". (Business Class, verse 811)

"Who does not find the core tree
For care delivery,
Can convince participate,
For attachment
He does not care only
Do not let anyone led,
His brethren right feet,
Travel in the world ". (Business Class sentences 364)

But Buddha with caution. Though he was liberated and enlightened than him, but he still shows that he must care only in a recluses or Brahmins:

"So Let's pay homage, reverence and live y pointing to a recluses or Brahmins, with full purpose of making the world Aggregates ... Aggregates ... Aggregates ... liberating insight aggregates is not filled enough ... but I do not see a world where the gods, evil and Brahma, between masses recluses and Brahmins, gods and men, no one recluses or Brahmins else , with instructions, with the, with wisdom and with more fully liberated me that I may reverently, bowed and he was merely living. Then, brethren, I think as follows: 'With France that I have legs own enlightenment, Let reverence, worship and live y France only did ''.

Thus the Buddha with a humble heart, looking for a recluses or Brahmins to rely only where dharma y. That is why the Buddha taught the brethren "Be a lamp unto yourself as yourself (Atta dipaviharatha), let yourself lean y yourself (Atta Sarana), do not care what a different title.  Use the Dhamma as refuge, do not lean on something else. " This attitude of the Buddha explains why Venerable Ananda Buddha advised not to have sorrow after the Buddha's death, because the disciples of Buddha Dharma always do the will, with the Dhamma as refuge titles.

In Samyutta III, 51, the Buddha identified advice again his disciples took the Dhamma as the island, take the Dhamma as refuge: "Live, make the island self mines themselves, brethren, take refuge with yourself, do not lean on anyone else. Take measures as the island, take refuge measures do not lean on someone else. "  In the Gopaka Mahamoggallana, Central III, page 111, we find the disciples of Buddha after his death, acted as his word. Gopaka Mahamoggallana Brahmin asked Ananda: "Venerable Sir, there is a certain brethren were recluses arrangement Gotama: 'This person, after I kill shelter will be for you, and ye shall y only this position? '".

Ananda replied: "Hey Brahmin without a certain brethren is Exalted, Wise, author Career Learning, Arahat, Enlightenment arrangement: 'This Area after passing Ta , will be a refuge for you ', and we will care only this position. "

"O Ananda, there is an increase brethren are our agreements and a large number of monks arranged Presbyterian is this position, after passing Exalted, will be a refuge for us, and we will care only to this position? ".

Ananda replied: "There is a certain brethren, the Brahmins, are we increasing the deal and get the majority of your brethren arrangements Elder: 'This person, after Bhagavan's passing will be shelters for us', and we will care only to this position. "

"And so that (you) do not have shelter. Ladies and Ananda, so what's so you can blend?".

"This brahmin, we are not without shelter. This Brahmana, we have shelter. And France is our refuge."

Get the Dhamma as refuge, which is also the Buddha's teaching us.END=VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH TAM GIAC.VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN PRAYED BUDDHIST NUN MONASTERY.THICH CHAN TANH.VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN GOLDEN LOTUS MONASTERY.AUSTRALIA,ADELAIDE,SYDNEY.28/7/2015.
