Sutra of Firmness (Kevaddha).2 44. When contemplating oneself as having abandoned the five hindrances, joy arises; due to joy, joy is born; Because the mind is happy, the body is at peace; Due to the lightness of the body, happiness is born; Due to pleasure, the mind becomes calm. The monk, separated from desire, separated from evil and unwholesome dharma, attained and resided in the first meditation, a state of joy and happiness born of separation from desire and thought. The monk permeates, drenches, and makes his body full with the joy and happiness born of separation from desire. There is not a single part of his whole body that is not permeated by the joy and happiness born of separation from desire. 45. Kevaddha, like an expert bathing servant or a bathing servant disciple. After sprinkling the bath powder in the copper basin, immediately knead the powder with water. The bath powder is soaked with wet water, kneaded with wet water, wet both inside and outside with water, but does not flow into drops. In the same way, Kevaddha, a monk permeates, drenches, and fills his body with the joy and happiness that is permeated by separation from desire. Hey Kevaddha, this is called miraculous teaching and transformation. 50…. witness and stay in the fourth meditation... (like the Samana Sutra, paragraphs 77 - 81, except the last concluding sentence of each chapter). This Kevaddha is called the magical power of teaching. 52. With a mind that is calm, pure, untainted, free of afflictions, pliable, easy to use, steady, and calm, the monk guides and directs the mind to right wisdom and right view... ( like the Samana Sutra, sutra number 83)... This Kevaddha, this is called the miraculous power of teaching. 53…. After the present life, there is no other life... (see the Samana Sutra, paragraphs 84 - 98), except for the last concluding sentence of each chapter). Hey Kevaddha, this is the teaching of miraculous transformation. 67.
