"Making a human body is as difficult as a blind turtle looking for a tree." In the Dhammapada, the Buddha taught that "it is difficult to make a human body like a blind turtle looking for a tree bag." In the Shurangama Sutra, I heard the teacher explain that this birth of parents is like a speck of dust in space like a bubble in the sea. So how? Because of ignorance, it takes the lives of animals In the Dhammapada, the Buddha teaches that this body is as difficult to find as a blind turtle looking for a tree, that is, a blind tortoise does not have to find it immediately, but it will emerge once every 100 years. There on the sea surface the tree is drifting with the wind and waves. So when will the blind tortoise find the tree? Difficult to count, also in terms of this body, one must understand carefully that it is not precious but also very precious. Because it is precious to have this body, we have not practiced yet but it is a waste to commit suicide, it is not easy to get back to this body, so it is very precious. Every time I use the example: Suppose we go out to sea and suddenly get hit by a storm, we sink a boat and suddenly grab a rotten tree. While I was playing in the ocean, was the stump of a rotten tree precious to me or not? Everyone knows that a rotten tree is not valuable, but when we are playing with it, it is very precious. By wearing that rotten tree stump, people will save you or by wearing that rotten tree stump, the waves will hit the shore. The stump of a rotten tree while playing with it is very precious, what happens when we reach the shore? Has anyone carried it on their shoulders to show them? So at what stage is it valuable? And not precious at which stage? Why did the Buddha say that the human body is difficult to obtain, and the Buddha Dharma is difficult to hear? It's precious at the stage where we need to practice, we're still confused when we wake up, then we know the Way and then this body is destroyed, so it must be precious at that time. It is precious to borrow this body as a means of practice, so the Buddha forbids Buddhists not to commit suicide. Because it is precious to have this body, we have not practiced yet but it is a waste to commit suicide, it is not easy to get back to this body, so it is very precious. But when I have attained the Way, will this body still be precious? Then here in the Linh Nghiem Sutra that you teach that this body is like a ball of foam like a speck of dust in the air, it is because of enlightenment and then it becomes useless. Those are the two cases where the body is very precious while still in a state of mind and consciousness, it is precious. It is no longer precious when you realize it and see it as a temporary lie and no longer precious. Returning to this body is not easy, so it is very precious.
