At that time, the people of La Duyet Ky were happy to have a great Saint appear in the world, everyone praised the World-Honored One: A savior, how many living beings are grateful to be freed from suffering, moreover, he also converted the evil religions to follow him, which is truly an even more difficult task. They also praised the group of Kaundinya and the brothers of Uat Ty La Ca Diếp along with other great monks, for the World-Honored One, I wonder what kind of affinity they had in their previous lives? The newly beaten Dharma drum was heard first, and the nectar was drunk first. The Bhikkhus heard them praising like that and immediately told the Buddha about it. The Buddha said: - That is not strange! I and those gentlemen made a vow in a past life: If I become a Buddha, I will save them first. The monks said: - Respectfully, Sir! In the past, what was your vow? Please tell us clearly. The Buddha patiently conquers cruelty. The Buddha taught: - If you want to know the story of me and those gentlemen in the past life, listen carefully and I will tell you: In the past life, a very long time ago, there were countless asamkhyeya kalpas that cannot be calculated by thinking and speaking. Also in this Jambudvipa, there was a great country called Ba La Nai, the king of that country was named Ca Li. At that time, there was a great sage named San De Ba La and all five hundred disciples lived on a mountain practicing the method of patience. One day, the king of that country, along with his wife, concubines, and courtiers, went into the mountains to travel: hunting animals, holding parties, drinking wine, eating meat, the concubines danced and sang, making the king happy, pleasing to the eyes, and enjoying his pleasures. Then, at the banquet, the king lay down to rest under a tree. Taking advantage of that opportunity, the ladies went together to see flowers in the forest. They came to a cave and saw San De Ba La sitting quietly, seemingly deep in thought. These ladies saw that he was dignified with an extraordinary face, outside of the mundane world, so they felt respect! They picked flowers and threw them up as offerings, then sat around to listen to the sermon. When the king woke up, he looked around and did not see any girls serving him. He was so angry that he stood up and went to look for them with four high-ranking officials. After a while, he arrived at the Immortal's place and saw the girls sitting around him. The king shouted loudly. The girls were scared and ran away. The king went to the Immortal and asked: - Have you attained the state of Tu Khong yet? - No, I say. - Have you attained the Four Immeasurable Minds yet? - No, I say. The king shouted and scolded: - All those merits are not enough to say that you have attained them. In that case, are you any better than a common man?How dare you sit with these girls in a deserted place? The old man remained silent and did not answer anything. The king asked again: - What kind of person are you here? What religion do you practice? - Sir! I practice patience! The king seemed angry and pulled out his sword from behind his back and said: - You practice patience! Let me test if you can be patient? After saying that, he chopped off the old man's two arms and they fell to the ground, then asked again: - Are you patient yet? The old man replied: - Can be patient! He chopped off two more times on his thighs and let them go, then asked again: - Are you patient yet? - Can be patient! The king then cut off his two ears and nose, looking very scary. All the female officers and soldiers, seeing that the king had done such a cruel thing to the old man, all turned pale, but did not dare to stop him, because they were afraid that his jealousy was about to flare up. However, they saw that the old man's face was calm and unchanged. The king stood up and looked to see if the Immortal would protest against him. But no. At that moment, the earth naturally shook six times. Five hundred immortal disciples who had been studying with him flew up into the sky and looked down and asked: - Dear teacher! Will you lose your patience when you suffer like this? The answer was: - My mind is still calm and it is also a favorable condition for my patience to become even stronger! At this point, the king slowly calmed down his jealousy. Seeing that the Immortal was still calm, his patience was like that, and he did not seem to be bothered by the pain. He asked softly: - You say you practice patience, what evidence do you have for the truth? Answer: - I don't say anything, the king can see my truth, one is that I do not submit to the oppressive power of ignorance and lack of judgment, two is that I do not care about the sword of the king that cuts me, and I also do not have any evil thoughts towards the king's cruelty, if I want to know the truth, I will make a vow: If I really practice the path of patience, my blood will turn into milk, my body will recover as before. After the Great Immortal finished speaking, his blood naturally turned into milk, his body was completely as before. The king saw the great immortal's patience so clearly! He was so moved that he shivered, his spine shivered, and he was afraid to sweat! With a mind of greed and attachment, if I did not apologize, I would be in trouble. The king quickly threw his sword on the ground, knelt before the great immortal and said: - Great Immortal, we misunderstood, because we were too ignorant, today we treated you in an excessive and inhumane way, we humbly ask you to forgive and accept my sincere repentance. The lesson of patience of the venerable Rahula, the first of the Secret Practices, the Great Immortal replied: Today, the king also because of female beauty, was so angry that he used his sword to cut me, my patience is like the earth, I swear that after I become a Buddha, I will use my sword of wisdom to cut off the three poisons, greed, anger, and ignorance for the king first. The king saw that the Great Immortal was happy to forgive him, and accepted his apology, bowed and left. At that time, in the mountain, there were dragons, kings, and ghosts and gods. Seeing that King Kali had unjustly humiliated the Great Immortal, they were so angry that they flew into a rage, causing dark clouds and smoke to cover the sky, thunder and lightning to resound, intending to harm the king and kill all of the king's relatives. The Great Immortal saw this and raised his face to the sky and said:- You should open your heart to all beings, if you have good will towards me, defend me, then please do not harm the king! From then on, King Kali, humbled himself as a disciple who respected the Great Immortal as a teacher, always visited and made offerings, and sometimes invited him to the palace to teach. At that time, there was also a group of about a thousand Brahmins who practiced evil ways. Seeing that King Kali respected and treated the Great Immortal with special respect, he felt jealous and hired people to smear dung on the Great Immortal's seat. When he was absent, he did it many times but did not know who had a sinister and evil heart, a despicable attitude; finally, due to the king's sure investigation, the evil people were captured and brought out for questioning, they claimed to be hired Brahmins. Immediately, King Kali ordered all the Brahmins to be brought back to the palace gate. The Great Immortal was compassionate and was practicing the path of patience, so he asked the king to forgive them. In front of the king and the assembly, the Great Sage swore: - For the sake of living beings, I have practiced the virtue of patience and accumulated tireless efforts, in order to seek Buddhahood. After I have achieved this, I will use the water of the Dharma of wisdom to cleanse all the defilements and desires of the world, so that these people will be pure first. At this point, the Buddha reminded me: - Ananda! At that time, San De Ba La was my previous life, King Kali is now Kaundinya, the four great ministers at that time are now the four Bhikkhus in the group of five people with him, and the outsiders of the Pham Chi sect at that time are now Uat Ty La Ca Diếp and these thousand Bhikkhus. At that time, I vowed to save them first, and now that I have become a Buddha, they will be saved first. Thus, we know that the vow was not wrong.
