Giving Dharma. In the 'Flower Adornment Sutra Commentary', there is a lecture on Extensive Offerings - Offering material things is not as good as offering Dharma. In the sutra, there is an extremely interesting exposition by the layman Vimalakirti, in which the most important thing is that true giving of Dharma is not like what we do nowadays, giving a few sutras, giving a few tapes of [Dharma lectures] and calling it giving of Dharma, this is too small a matter. The layman Vimalakirti said: 'Dharma giving is using the body as a model, practicing according to the Dharma, setting a good example for all living beings, that is true giving of Dharma'. This exposition teaches us a very good point, that is how we can attain the true benefits of the Buddha Dharma. For example, if we truly give material things, give Dharma, and give fearlessness, cultivating these three causes, we will receive three results - wealth, intelligence, wisdom, health and longevity. Let all sentient beings see, let them see these results and ask you: 'How did you get such great benefits?', then you tell them that [to get such results] you must cultivate these three causes. Therefore, you must definitely let others see. When keeping precepts, you must wholeheartedly keep the precepts, cut off all evil karma, and make the bottom of your heart truly attain purity and goodness. As for patience, diligence, meditation, and Prajna, you must truly do them, that is giving the Dharma. If you cannot do them and tell others or advise them, it will have no effect at all, and people may not believe you. In the sutras, the Buddha said: 'Sentient beings fear the results, Bodhisattvas fear the causes'. When sentient beings see the results, they will reflect. When they see good results, they will admire them, when they see bad results, they will be afraid. Therefore, we must do our best, bring the results before everyone, let them observe, reflect, then develop the mind to learn, only then is it truly the Dharma of giving.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN ZEN BUDDHIST MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.4/7/2024.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=THICH CHAN TANH.
