The life and light of the venerable Sariputta - Part 1. The life of the Buddha Shakyamuni Buddha's preaching life was a great success in India, a country with a diversity of races and differences in religion. religion, so that today the Buddha's Dharma is circulated throughout the five continents, that great preaching has always had a significant contribution from his saints and disciples. The tradition of Buddhism has voted for the ten greatest disciples, whose merits in preaching the Dharma as well as the most special powers, surpassing thousands of other saintly disciples. The top of the ten saints is the venerable Sariputta (Sariputra). Buddhism is the religion of the wisdom of "Intellectual Knowledge of Industry", which venerable Sariputta is considered to be the most intelligent disciple among thousands of Buddha's noble disciples. More, In a previous life, Venerable Sariputta and Venerable Moggalli Kolita (Muggalli Kolita) were predicted by Buddha Amomadari in the future to be two great disciples, like the right and left arms of Shakyamuni Buddha (according to Tuc) birth story). Therefore, venerable Sariputta is always considered the leading saint among the disciples of Shakyamuni Buddha, his right hand. 1. The lineage and birth of the world False Religion Sariputta (Sariputra), born in the village of Upatissa, belonging to the city of Vuong-sa, the country of Ma-ket-da. This is a rich and ancient village representing spiritual vitality with majestic temples and towers; in which worship many gods such as: God Brahma with four faces, god Nàga in the shape of a giant snake, god Nandì in the shape of a huge bull, god Sudra with a thousand eyes and four hands, Hunuman in the shape of a black monkey, etc... In addition, in the caves, The big tree also has many gods. Hundreds of gods sit and mingle in front of people's contemplation and worship. His mother's name is Sàri (Sarii), is a young woman belonging to the Brahmin lineage, with a dignified appearance, intelligent personality, very good at argument. His father was a great Brahmin master named Vaganta (Disha), both the patriarch of the village, also the chief teacher of the Brahmins, well versed in the Vedas and other Buddhist scriptures. spells, math, etc.. his students have hundreds of people. At that time he was almost 50 years old, His mother was much younger than him, due to the custom of child marriage according to the Hindu Manu law, she returned to her husband at the age of 10. Although full of fame and power as well as wealth, grandparents are always sad because they have no children to inherit. If you have children, you can use the village name to name your children, because he is the patriarch of the village should have that honor, and to inherit the noble spiritual tradition, as well as his rich inheritance. Therefore, in sacrifices as well as in private holidays, he and his wife always bought all the items for sacrifice and sincerely prayed: "Hail to the invincible Brahma! As the dirty and dusty petty spirit of Your creation, I have cleansed myself with the sacred water of Soma, by contemplation and meditation. I calmed all my delusions, leaving only a desire to continue the lineage. Please give me a baby acne. You are a lost soul and have nowhere to lean on in this life. So that desire is unique and righteous. His slaves will rejoice and be grateful to him and make a majestic stupa and make statues of him, incense, fruit, animal trays, year-round sacrifices, etc. v… to spread his blessings of grace to the four continents of the world, etc.. Reverence to the supreme Brahma, the Lord of Life, the Invincible! Please give me a baby acne!" Finally, the couple's dream came true. One day, after the prayer ceremony, seeing changes in her body, with unusual signs, Mrs. Sàri knew she was pregnant, she was very happy to go to her husband: "Hey, my god! The slave experienced moments of ecstasy. Some divine graces have been sent down from the Most High, vibrating 32 vertebrae, then gathering heat at the last vertebrae etc…” Mr. Vaganta was overjoyed, knowing that his wish was about to come true. , he held sacrifices, prayed more and ordered a banquet to entertain the whole village. Ms. Sàri was originally a knowledgeable Brahmin woman, very good at argumentation. In the past, every time she argued against her brother, Cau-hyla, a famous great commentator at that time, but strangely when she was pregnant, all arguments surpassed him. Cau-hyla guessed that the baby her sister was carrying in her womb would be a genius that would be second to none; afraid that later on I will lose my grandson in an argument, people will look down on me; Therefore, he made a vow to enter the scriptures of the hidden schools to study the scriptures of the schools, the method of argumentation, etc.. He hid for nearly twenty years, studying so hard that his fingernails grew very long. but refused to take the time to cut, so his contemporaries also called him Truong Trao Pham Chi (Mr Pham Chi had long nails). The head of the Vaganta clan loved his wife very much, he gave many servants and took good care of his wife during her pregnancy. The days gradually passed and the full moon day came, she gave birth to a handsome and handsome prince who was very extraordinary. The baby's face and face were like a golden lion lord coming out of a treasure cave, the village name Upatissa was used to name the baby, combined with the mother's name Sàri, so the name of the royal child was chosen. enough called Sàri Upatissa, but the common name in the canon is Sàriputta (Sāriputta), that is, the son of Mrs. Sāriputta. Not by accident or by accident, all thanks to previous predestined circumstances, while the whole village of Upatissa was holding a grand celebration to celebrate the birth of the son of the head priest, the patriarch of his village, in the next village of Kolita nearby, are also celebrating the birth of their village chief's son, and this prince is also named after the village to name Kolita, enough called Moggalli Kolita (Moc-galleon). Thanks to the god's grace for giving him a prince like his wish, the head priest Vaganta held many great sacrifices and held banquets for the villagers. Later, he also built a stupa to sacrifice, just like the previous prayer. 2. In his youth, his father was the patriarch, the great teacher and also the head of the Brahmin school, so right from the moment he knew how to speak and run; Prince Sariputta, was raised, cared for and educated very carefully. In addition, he was also taught by his father mantras, rituals, and prayers, and he was often accompanied by his father to attend ceremonies. At the age of six, Sarputta was invited by his father to three erudite teachers in Vuong Xa to teach subjects: Grammar, logic, philosophy, etc., and other common subjects. His father alone still taught many subjects, especially sacrifice. His mother, Mrs. Sàri, also taught her son many things, but was afraid of her husband's ambition to cram all subjects for her child who was too young. Contrary to her fears, as a child prodigy who had studied for many lifetimes, Sariputta quickly grasped all the subjects. Less than a year later, his father was amazed at his son's receptivity and intelligence, and proudly declared that: Just a few more years, the other erudite teachers. there will be nothing left to teach my children! When I was 8 years old, a rare event happened. At that time in the country of Machida, there were two elder brothers, the younger brother was named Katloi, and the older brother Agiala held a banquet for the king and the judges, and at the same time held a debate about philosophy, science, arithmetic, classics, etc. v… In the debate hall, there is a high chair designed for the best lawyer, the winner of the argument can sit on it. In that ceremony his father was also invited, and his beloved son was also brought, when the ceremony began, everyone sat in their arranged positions, only He ran to the highest seat reserved for him. available to the best debater, everyone was amazed, thinking that the boy was naughty, unruly, ignorant, but with his clever behavior, Sàriputta pleased all the courtiers and the commentators. , the debate session inadvertently became interesting, almost all issues were focused on the boy, all questions were raised in all areas, Sàriputta answered succinctly, with appropriate meaning, all problems. topics are as clear as the answers of the most famous great teacher, The whole audience in the debate session were amazed, and they all thought that young Sariputta deserved to sit in that high honorable seat. The commentators all admired him, his father was very proud and also realized that his intelligence was not as good as his beloved son, especially the king of Makita, very pleased and affectionately presented a village. for Sariputta. Sàriputta's childhood was so famous, and strangely enough, the little Kolita from the next village was also famous for his intelligence. Sàriputta's family and Kolita's family have had a close relationship since seven generations, so the two children were given many opportunities by their parents to meet and play and live in a very harmonious and happy way. A special thing is that Kolita and Sàriputta themselves call each other brothers, Sàriputta is a brother and Kolita is a brother who does not need anyone to teach. At the age of 12, The more famous Sàriputta became, the more subjects of arithmetic, natural, geography, astrology, philosophy, etc. were handed down by many erudite teachers invited by his father to continue to pass on, and the young Sàriputta's wisdom was received by the masters. I recognize it as an ocean containing hundreds of rivers of knowledge, how much knowledge is absorbed, never showing signs of overflowing. Happiness doubled when his wife, Mrs. Sàri in the following years gave birth to more children. When he was 15 years old, just as his father had planned, the learned teachers met him and said: "Sir, our education and literacy are limited, but our intelligence and curiosity are limited. The prince's knowledge is limitless. We each only work as teachers of one subject, and the young master is now able to teach us many other subjects." And all the teachers asked to withdraw. Also at this age Sàriputta had around him hundreds of followers. At the age of 17, 18 years old, he specialized in the study of the Vedas, this is the traditional scripture that the Brahmin lineage must inherit. With his intelligence and understanding, he ponders deeply on all aspects of the sutra system, but this sutra synthesizes many complex and sometimes contradictory knowledge, He could not answer and understand everything. The tradition of this sutra allows only recording or memorization and not to be questioned. Sàriputta's thoughts and questions became more and more profound, he never dared to be complacent or arrogant but always pondered and humbly because he knew that there were many things he did not know, hymns, praises. , supplication, sacrifice, mantra, which the Brahmin tradition said would lead to the eternal, supramundane supreme Brahma, etc., had not yet brought any light to him, the darkness of doubt had begun to appear in his mind. By the age of 18, he had the form and status of a prominent guru. His father had entrusted all of his sacrifices and disciples to him. However, in lonely moments, alone thinking, or when walking alone, he still has nostalgia, difficult questions in his heart. 3. Family renunciation At that time in the city of Vuong Xa held a Brahmin congress, two villages Upatissa, Kolita nominated two boys Sāriputta and Kolita representing the two villages to attend. Citadel of Vajrasattva is the most magnificent and prosperous capital of the country of Makati and of the whole of India. This place is the economic and cultural exchange point of the ancient Indus civilization with the eastern and southern states of India. This is also the brilliant convergence of religious spirituality. On the occasion of the festival, hundreds of religious doctrines and philosophies gathered. Everything that is beautiful in sacrifices, paintings, poetry, dances, etc. is also held and performed everywhere, it is a bustling, joyful and joyful scene that has never been seen before. The day the debate began, the two men witnessed many sects with different ways of dressing, extremely diverse and different ideas; there are so many theories and philosophies together giving their views, which is the Sheng Deism, the Analects school, the Asceticism, the Sophist school etc... which are the Idealist, Materialist, and Rationalist doctrines. , Realism… There are doctrines, positions that were in stark contrast to the biblical tradition the two men had learned. There are doctrines that refute a divine god, all forms of sacrificial prayer. There are atheists who advocate enjoyment, think that death is the end, just let yourself enjoy anything, nothing is a sin, a blessing... Witnessing what happened in the ceremony, the hearts of the two he became more and more questioning and skeptical. The three days of the festival have passed, the beautiful scenery at first is no longer there, instead it is just trash and ruins when the job is over. During the days of traveling and attending the Brahmin assembly, both of them were extremely bewildered. They both feel that all sects, doctrines... have competing, terrifying, and untruthful natures. Human life is fragile, scattered, happy and sad, crying and laughing according to the fake tricks of the world. In the hearts of both men, there is a desire to escape from family life, a life full of hardships in the world. After returning from attending the meeting, Sàriputta remained calm as if nothing had happened. His father watched his eldest son grow up as a more virtuous, erudite, and intelligent person, and also inherited the career of teaching disciples, accepting disciples as well as inheriting all traditions. perfect, so he was very satisfied. Both grandparents were thinking about taking care of his family. Being a wise man, he had felt and studied through the spiritual and material joys taught by the Supreme Being in the holy scriptures, plus his longing for escapism, he refused love. parents' request and begged them to let me go forth to seek liberation. By all forms of ties of family, of tradition, of honor, as well as wealth... his parents tried every way to entice, dissuade as well as mourn and cry... not to let their beloved son give up his power, fame, riches, aspirations, wishes. make their own vows to embark on the path of hunger, wandering here and there, of the monastic life, asking for each cup of leftover rice, watching for the dregs of the world's alms. However, his will was determined and nothing could be shaken, he went to meet his father, and stood with his arms around asking his parents for ordination, otherwise he would stand there forever to die... Look at his son standing still. , her face was pale, she didn't drink or eat for the past two days, her legs were shaking, she was about to collapse and faint, her grandparents cried a lot, advised a lot but could not shake the will of her son to go to the world, if he did not agree. the idea that he would surely die, dying before him; Finally, his grandparents agreed to let him ordained. Miraculously, Kolita in the neighboring village also had to go through many hardships to be ordained by her family. For the sake of great liberation, the two men wiped their tears and paid homage to their parents, giving up all fame, power as well as the wealth of their family and race to embark on the path of spirituality. When the two boys left, there were nearly 250 disciples who also prayed to follow the two boys to find the truth. Both Sàriputta and Kolita thought that for a long time, they had only studied traditional sects and doctrines, so they were bound in a framework that could not be separated to see the good positions of other doctrines. From that lucid thought, the two boys decided to find out sects outside the Brahmin tradition. The two men sought out philosophers, thinkers, sophists... but the more bitterly they realized that: All doctrines, A sect is just a crowded gathering, taking on an external appearance, noisy, chaotic... Everyone wants to establish a sect, establish a religion, teach religion, it's just displays and ostentatious. Some of them were supported by rich merchants, some were supported by emirs, some were politically scheming, etc. Finally, the two boys also found a famous contemporary guru with many ideas and learnings. brilliant theory; that is guru Sanjaya. The two boys and their nearly 250 followers agreed to be disciples of this guru, which made the sect of the guru Sanjaya even more famous. But after studying the main thought of Sanjaya for a while, Sàriputta and Kolita realized that this was just an "agnostic" doctrine, which did not bring any light of truth to them. So, the two men decided to leave again, continuing their quest, although the guru Sanjaya begged the two men to stay to hand over all the things he had instructed them to do. From there, the two men ventured into the dust of harsh India. Hearing that there was a eminent guru, the two men immediately went to consult and inquire about the Way. The ice of the Snow Mountain or the heat of the desert, the dry heat of the tropics… the heels of the two nobles were all experienced. But the figure of the true guru and the light of enlightenment are still far away, yet to be found. 4. Meeting the truth After realizing the Supreme Bodhi into Perfect Enlightenment, recalling the old vow, the Blessed One returned to Ma-ket-da to convert King Bimbisàra (Tan-ba-sala). King Bimbisàra was extremely happy, respectful of the Great Enlightened One who asked for the Three Refuges of the Five Precepts, to be a lay Buddhist. At the same time, he made a mind to offer Truc Lam Monastery to the Buddha and the monks. Since then, the Way of Enlightenment and the liberation of monks have been present in this country. One day, on the way to find the path in the city of Rajasthan, Sàriputta saw a dignified, dignified, dignified ascetic, calm and calm, with a majestic figure of liberation, mindful step by step begging alms on the ground. Street. Never had he seen a recluse with such a great simple figure. He intended to run to ask the way, but something too solemn made him slowly follow the recluse. At that time, having finished his alms round, the ascetic headed to a deserted place, under a big shaded tree to live. As if understanding the sa-mon's mind, Sàriputta quickly used his seat to spread it down to a quiet place and invited the sa-mon to sit for a meal; after the real life is over, he invited the recluse with water and his toothpick. All done, Sàriputta immediately presented his wish and begged the recluse to teach the way to liberation, for he was sure that this was indeed the one who had liberated all ties. The ascetic slowly explained that he was a disciple of the Blessed One, named Assaji (A-theory, one of the first five Arahants) who had just left home, so he did not understand much. about liberation. Because he was so thirsty for the true dharma of liberation, Sàriputta begged him to teach him even a short verse, so the venerable Assaji read the verse on Dependent Origination to Sàriputta: The dharmas are dependently born, also by cause-and-effect cessation, our Buddha, used to say. (The Dharma follows the predestined birth, the heron causes the destruction of the Self, the Buddha, the Great Samana, often works like a lecture). With wisdom ripe, When he finished listening to the verse, Sariputta immediately enlightened, his whole body was shaken, and he realized the preliminary results of Tu-da-complete. Then, venerable Assaji advised Sariputta to go to Truc Lam monastery to meet the Blessed One to learn the path of liberation. With a very joyful heart, Sariputta sincerely bowed to the venerable Assaji, he returned to meet his sage Kolita. Seeing sàriputta with a radiant face like never before, Kolita was surprised to ask the reason, Sàriputta told the fate of the encounter with the venerable Assaji. After listening to the verse, Kolita also realized the preliminary results of Tu-da-complete. Not wanting to receive the teachings of immortality alone, the two men thought about their old guru and his disciples. Sàriputta and Kolita came back to inform them that they had found the way to liberation, and advised them to go with them to Truc Lam monastery to meet the Tathagata; But karma is still heavy, This guru didn't listen and even lured the two guys to stay to hand them over to the two leaders… Dissuaded Sanjaya, the two boys gave him up. More than 250 of his followers also followed his two wise elders to learn the path of liberation. Seeing his belongings leave one after another, Sanjaya was so upset that he vomited blood and died. 5. Becoming a disciple of the Blessed One, the old teacher, Sariputta and Kolita, led more than 250 disciples to Truc Lam Monastery. When entering the lecture hall, the two men and his disciples knelt down to beg the Blessed One to accept him as his disciple and ordained in his liberation. The Buddha accepted their request, immediately said: Etha bhikkhave (Good-returned-Bhikkhu), the Blessed One had just finished speaking, both of them and more than 250 disciples were full of robes and bowls, bearing the silhouettes of the gods. bhikkhus. Then, the World-Honored One preached to the new Bhikkhu-stilts; When the dharma has just ended, it is strange that all of them have witnessed the result of the Unborn (Arahant), only Sàriputta and Kolita have not witnessed any more holy results. It was not until a week later that Kolita tried to practice to attain arahantship, and half a month later, Sariputta attained the fruit of the Unborn, becoming the most intelligent person among the disciples of the shravakas of Germany. Buddha. The tradition of Mahayana Buddhism recounts the attainment of Arahantship by the venerable Sariputta as follows: After nearly twenty years of hiding in the sutras to study all doctrines, Ko-hy -la, the uncle of the venerable Sariputta has come out of the sutras to become an interpreter, no one can argue against him. When he learned that his nephew had ordained as a Buddha, he thought that now I am the best argumentative person and of course he will not be equal to me, I will argue to win the recluse Cu Dam (the Buddha), so that my grandson and everyone else will fully respect me. Thinking and doing, he went to see the Buddha. At that time, the Buddha was preaching the Dharma to the assembly, the venerable Sariputta was standing next to him. Pham Chiu-hyla saw that a good opportunity had come, he immediately asked to interrogate the Blessed One: "This recluse Cu Dam, who does not accept the self, adheres to the law. What do you think?” The World-Honored One did not answer, but retorted him: "Hey, Brahma, you said that you don't cling to the self and adhere to the law, so do you cling to your view of not clinging to the self and obeying the law?" Right at the Buddha's retort question, Pham Chi Cau-hyla was shocked to know that he had lost, his whole body was sweating, but he was still proud, so he retorted to answer: "Hey, monk Cu Dam, you Not clinging to the self, obeying the law, not grasping the view, not clinging to the self, obeying the law. What do you think?” The World-Honored One immediately replied: -"Hey, Mr. Pham Chi, you said you don't accept the self, adhere to the law, don't cling to the view, don't cling to the self, adhere to the law; So why did you come here to question the Tathagata?" As soon as the World-Honored One's question was finished, Cau-hyla immediately realized that he had attained the first stage of Tu-da-completed fruition, and bowed down to ask the Blessed One for permission to become a monastic disciple. The venerable Sariputta was standing behind the Blessed One, and right at that answer, he suddenly became enlightened and attained Arahantship. On the very evening of the day that venerable Sariputta attained Arahantship, the World-Honored One gathered thousands of monks and lay people to Truc Lam monastery to declare: "From here on, the Tathagata has there are two great disciples, the two eldest sons of the Tathagata, that is venerable Sariputta and venerable Kolita. Sariputta was the first great disciple and Kolita the second great disciple. They will be two effective supporting arms for the Tathagata, entitled to represent the Tathagata to solve all areas of Buddha or Sangha affairs. The whole assembly was surprised and wondered: Why are the venerable ones, the elders such as the group of five Kieu Tran Nhu, the group of Yasa, or the group of 30 bhikkhus in the land of the gods, etc., are not allowed to be the firstborn. , but two venerable Sàriputta and Kolita are young, newly ordained as well as newly attained sainthood... do they have that honor? Knowing the thoughts of the masses, the Blessed One preached to the masses about the causes and conditions, the vows of the two venerable masters in the past lives, as well as the talents and fruits that the two venerable masters had attained in their previous lives. present... The entire assembly stopped all doubts and all respected the two venerable ones. 6. General of the Dharma: After taking on the responsibility of "The Great Disciple of the Blessed One", The Buddha always told the venerable Sariputta to stand on his right side (at this time there was no venerable Ananda), so at all times, the Buddha's teachings were fully understood by the venerable Sariputta. The wisdom of the false religion is becoming more and more transcendent. There were times when the World-Honored One had just finished teaching this group of bhikkhus, when other groups of bhikkhus arrived. At such times, the World-Honored One often asked the venerable Sariputta to explain his Dharma time to the newly arrived bhikkhus, so that he could walk for a while. Or there were times because of the discord of the body of the four elements, at such times he immediately told the venerable Sariputta to preach the rest of the sermon that he had not completed, or to preach all the times of the Dharma to teach precepts and encourage cultivation. the collection of bhikkhus, bhikkhunis, and upasakas, Upa-di... The Dharma period of the venerable Sariputta has just ended, the whole assembly always resounds with "Sàdhu" (better) to praise the false venerable. At that time, the World-Honored One was also present on the throne and praised the venerable Sariputta in front of the assembly: "O monks! Sariputra, formerly a prominent Brahmin teacher at the age of 18, was a famous Vedic scholar, well-versed, scholarly, and widely seen. He was well versed in all kinds of philosophies inside and outside the tradition. He is also a linguist who transcends two types of discourse: scholarly and popular, common language and grammar. Again, Sariputra was also an astrophysicist, geographer, numerologist, physicist, naturalist... With that vast treasure of knowledge, he never came up with a superfluous sentence. , an extra word. All just enough, full intention; both aristocratic literature, both casual and casual, sometimes serious, sometimes witty. Anyone who has heard Sariputra preach once, it seems to them that there is not a shaman or a teacher in this world. Hey bhikkhus! Waves of hundreds of rivers, thousands of rivers rushing to the sea. Likewise, the teachings of the Tathagata are the ocean tides of yin. The Dhamma that Sariputra preached is the same as the ocean tides, no two, no difference." Looking in the Canon, we find that the Dharma times of the venerable Sariputta preached a lot and all had the praise and seal of the World-Honored One. Therefore, those times are considered to be the scriptures that the venerable Sariputta preached. These sutras cover a wide variety of topics related to the holy life. Transmit teachings from simple, simple to profound, profound thoughts in the Buddha Dharma. For example the sutras: Heirs of the Dharma (Dharma No. 3) The Cessation of Sin (Dharma No. 5) Samámdhitthi Sutta (Talking about Right View-Dharma No. 9) etc. Indeed, such sutras are found in abundance in the sutras. : Truong Bo, Central, Truong A Ham, Ka A Ham, etc. In addition to undertaking the teaching of the Dharma, venerable Sariputta also represented the World-Honored One to solve the problems of the monks, in contact with the king and mandarins, great ministers, lay people, benefactors, etc.. At times, the Ky Vien monastery had up to 5,000 monks, besides the noble virtues, there were thousands of newly ordained bhikkhus. Weaknesses... There are so many important things in the Sangha from food, clothing, rooms, etc. to the assignment of all work, practice, etc., the task that venerable Sariputta undertakes is huge and heavy. Yet all His works have been done exceedingly well, This period is called the "golden age of the Dharma". In particular, venerable Sariputta had great merit in spreading the Dharma to the North of India. The venerable is a pioneer in spreading the Buddhadharma to this country, having taken over the responsibility of building the great monastery of Ky Hoan. It was the great things that venerable Sariputta took on and performed, the Blessed One and all the monks bestowed on him the beautiful title: "The General of the Dharma" 7. Spreading the Buddha's teachings on North India or the construction of the Great Monastery of Ky Hoan: If in South India there is a Truc Lam Monastery, in North India there is a Ky Hoan Monastery. This is a beautiful monastery and is very successful in spreading the Dharma. During the Buddha's time, this vihara was donated by the sage Sudatta (Tu-reaching). In the city of Sàvatthi (Sāvatthi), there lived a millionaire bourgeois named Sudatta. He was a very rich man, had a love for the poor, lonely and often provided food, clothing or other necessary items for them, so he was bestowed a beautiful name by everyone. : Level of solitude. The elder Sudatta had great good fortune to meet the Blessed One and was taught the Dharma by the Blessed One. After listening to the Dharma, he attained Tu-da-complete status, feeling the boundless bliss of the path of liberation. With unprecedented joy and happiness in his life, he also wanted to share the Dharma of peace and liberation with his loved ones and his homeland. Therefore, he respectfully requested the Buddha and the great assembly to come to the royal city of Sàvatthi, his hometown, to propagate the Dharma and give Dharma happiness to sentient beings. With the Buddha's consent, The patriarch Sudatta immediately returned to his homeland to find a suitable land to establish a monastery as a residence for the Buddha and the monks. After several days of searching, he still could not find a satisfactory place, except for the beautiful forest of Prince Ky Da. This is a very beautiful small forest, located neither near nor far from the king of Sàvatthi, which is an ideal place for monks to stay and practice: "Here there are undulating hills, sweet, cool, and sparkling water. fragrant. Each part of the forest all day is shadowed by ancient green trees; Colorful leaves, exotic flowers bloom everywhere. Through the forest are large and small gaps that can serve as a place to gather or meditate for hundreds of people. There were also flat rocks, extending about twenty or thirty poles running in a shady valley. All day long the wind sings birdsong, foggy sometimes dark, sometimes light, white clouds over the top of the mountain. Oh! It is indeed a charming mountain, sacred air that has gathered from thousands of years to welcome the footsteps of a great man who came out of the world!". Still knowing that this is the precious forest of Prince Ky Da, it is not easy to buy it, but for the peace and happiness of many people, the sage Sudatta also decided to meet Prince Ky Da to present. the most important wish in his life and asked Crown Prince Kyda to sell the forest to him. At the earnest request of the elder Sudatta, Prince Kyda was very touched, but did not want to lose his beautiful forest, so the prince said a funny joke, letting Sudatta give up the idea. buy the forest: "If you have the ability, just exchange the land for gold, I will sell it." The elder Sudatta was delighted and asked: "Dear Prince, how has it changed?". Prince Kyda said: "The stream is not counted, the rock is not counted, Only counting the land, He filled the earth with gold slices, and we sold them to him wherever he went." The elder Sudatta immediately followed that saying. Unexpectedly, a joke that came true, Prince Ky Da because of his respect for trust, could not withdraw his promise. While taking gold to pave the ground, and the stumps were not spread yet, the bourgeois Sudatta paused to think. Seeing that, thinking that Sudatta had turned his mind, Prince Ky Da immediately asked the reason. After understanding the reason and hearing the name of the great sage, Prince Kyda made a mind to offer the stump that Sudatta could not pave with gold. From then on, this monastery was often called: "The Life of the Lonely One" (Tree of Prince Kyda, the garden (land) of the bourgeois Alone). Having obtained the desired forest, the elder Sudatta immediately returned to the Truc Lam monastery to consult the Buddha to direct the method of building the great vihara, At the same time, he also said: "Kingdom of Sàvatthi is a place where there has never been a Buddha Dharma, where there are many left-leaning sects that are rampant and fascinate the masses. May the Blessed One come and place the first stone and subdue the heretical sects of heretics." Before this extremely important incident, the Blessed One sent the venerable Sariputta to North India to build a great monastery, and at the same time to subdue the pagan heretics. Obeying the Blessed One, the venerable Sariputta and the sage Sudatta set out for North India. True to Sudatta's request, the heretics, when they learned of Sudatta's offering of the forest and support of a strange religion in South India, they were extremely jealous, angry, and sought every way to disturb it. . They used their magical powers and their teachings to argue, to suppress the existence of new religions, to develop and overshadow them. discredit their religion... That's why the venerable Sariputta encountered many difficulties in this country. However, with all his talents and virtues, Venerable Master has gradually touched all classes of subjects here. With the power of miracles that have been attained, with great wisdom, profound knowledge of the scriptures as well as the wisdom of all thoughts and philosophies... Venerable Sariputta has subdued the pagan religions and sects here. A very large number of non-Buddhist sectarians, extremely respectful, have returned to take refuge in the Dharma.
