Lại đang lúc bịnh mà tin theo những thuyết họa phước vu vơ của bọn tà ma ngoại đạo, yêu nghiệt (2) trong đời, sanh lòng rúng sợ (3) không còn tự chủ đối với sự chân chánh, đi bói khoa (4) để tìm hỏi mối họa rồi giết hại loài vật để tấu với thần minh (5), vái van cùng vọng lượng (6) để cầu xin ban phước, mong được sống lâu, nhưng rốt cuộc không thể nào được. Bởi si mê lầm lạc, tin theo tà kiến (7) điên đảo nên bị hoạnh tử, đọa vào địa ngục đời đời không ra khỏi. Hai là bị phép vua tru lục (8), ba là sa đắm (9) sự chơi bời, săn bắn, đam mê tửu sắc, buông lung vô độ, bị loài quỉ đoạt mất tinh khí, bốn là bị chết thiêu, năm là bị chết đắm, sáu là bị các thú dữ ăn thịt, bảy là bị sa từ trên núi cao xuống, tám là bị đè chết vì thuốc độc, êm đối, rủa nộp, trù ẻo và bị quỉ tủ thi làm hại, chín là bị đói khát khốn khổ mà chết” Đó là chín thứ hoạnh tử của Như Lai nói, còn những thứ hoạnh tử khác nhiều vô lượng không thể nói hết được.

Vì thế ta khuyên chúng hữu tình nên thắp đèn làm phang, phóng sanh, tu phước khiến khỏi được các khổ ách, khỏi gặp những tai nạn.

Khi cha mẹ làm điều gì trái đạo đức Phật pháp thì phải tìm cách khuyên can khéo léo, khi cha mẹ làm việc lành không được ngăn cản; nếu người nào làm ngược lại những điều trên là bất hiếu.
 
(11) Ngũ nghịch: Là đại nghịch gồm: 1. Giết Cha, 2. Giết Mẹ, 3. Giết A La Hán, 4. Phá hòa hiệp Tăng là gây ra sự bất hòa giữa Chư Tăng với nhau, 5. Làm cho thân Phật chảy máu: như người vì tâm ác mà hủy hoại hình ảnh Phật đập phá tượng Phật đều đồng tội như làm cho thân Phật chảy máu.

Người không hiểu không tin Phật pháp cũng không có tội gì, chỉ là bỏ lỡ cơ hội và mất đi sự lợi ích của Tam Bảo; còn nếu sinh tâm huỷ báng, thì có tội sẽ đọa vào ba đường dữ, cho nên không tin cũng đừng sinh tâm huỷ báng vì nhân quả tự nhiên hiện hành, bao trùm pháp giới bình đẵng.
 
(13) Phá hoại phép vua tôi: Đây là luật nước mà mọi người dân sống trong nước phải tuân theo, nếu bất tuân làm trái lại là phá hoại phép nước, vì trong một nước nếu không có luật lệ phép tắc nghiêm minh thì dễ dẫn đến bất an, xáo trộn phiền toái.
 
(14) Hủy phạm điều cấm giới: Hủy là đả phá nói xấu, Phạm là khuôn khổ phép tắc; hủy phạm là đả phá chỉ trích giới luật, gạt bỏ các điều cấm giới và làm trái lại. Người đã thọ giới nhất định phải giữ giới cho được thanh tịnh, người xưa nói "giữ giới như giữ tròng con mắt của mình", vì mọi người sống đều nhờ vào con mắt để tiếp xúc với đối tượng của mình, nếu con mắt không thấy được thì rất khổ. Giới cũng vậy, nó giúp cho chúng ta hết phiền não, phân biệt được thiện ác, do tâm không còn phiền não nên được thanh tịnh, sinh ra trí tuệ; bởi vậy gìới là nền tảng của Đạo Phật, không nên hủy phạm giới.

Không phạm ngũ nghịch, không hủy nhục ngôi Tam Bảo, không phá hoại luật nước, không hũy phạm điều cấm giới, thì Vua Diêm Ma Pháp Vương làm sao mà hành phạt?

Nếu trong lúc đó, những bà con quen biết, vì người bịnh ấy, qui y với Đức Dược Sư Lưu Ly Quang Như Lai và thỉnh chúng Tăng đọc tụng kinh nầy đốt đèn tầng (5), treo thần phang tục mạng năm sắc (6) thì hoặc liền trong lúc ấy, hoặc trải qua bảy ngày, hai mươi mốt ngày, ba mươi lăm ngày, bốn mươi chín ngày. Thần thức người kia được trở lại như vừa tỉnh giấc chiêm bao, tự mình nhớ biết những nghiệp lành, nghiệp dữ và sự quả báo đã thọ. Bởi chính đã rõ thấy nghiệp báo như vậy, nên dầu có gặp phải những tai nạn nguy hiểm đến tánh mạng cũng không dám tạo những nghiệp ác nữa; vậy nên những tịnh tính thiện nam tín nữ đều phải một lòng thọ trì danh hiệu và tùy sức mình cung kính cúng dường Đức Dược Sư Lưu Ly Quang Như Lai".
GIẢI NGHĨA:

Nếu ta nói ra trong một kiếp hay hơn một kiếp thì kiếp số có thể mau hết, chớ những hạnh nguyện và những phương tiện khéo léo của đức Phật ấy không thể nói cho hết được.

GIẢI NGHĨA:
 
(1)Chí tâm thụ trì: Thụ là nhận lấy để vâng chịu, Trì là nắm lấy để hành động. Thụ trì chữ Phạn: Udgrahaịa: Lãnh nhận vào tâm, ghi nhớ không quên, thệ nguyện giữ gìn, không trái phạm, thụ trì Kinh có nghĩa tiếp nhận, suy nghĩ nghĩa lý, ghi nhớ nghĩa lý lời dạy và thực hành; Chí tâm thụ trì là hết lòng ghi nhớ thực hành.
(2) Sâu nhiệm: Sâu xa nhiệm mầu.
(3) Oai lực: Là gia bị, gia hộ, là nhận được hộ trì của Phật.

     Tại sao lại khó tin khó hiểu? Bởi vì nếu nghe danh hiệu mà tin rằng sẽ hết khổ thì làm sao tin được, nhất là chỉ cần niệm danh hiệu mà được hết khổ thì thật là khó tin và khó hiểu nổi. Có biết đâu rằng việc tin là khởi đầu cần phải có, tiếp theo là phải hiểu cách hành trì đúng nghĩa mà Phật muốn chỉ, như vậy mới thực sự đưa tới hết khổ được, chứ không phải chỉ tin suông mà hết khổ được đâu, nên khó tin khó hiểu là ở chỗ đó.

     Đức Phật xác nhận: được làm người là khó, người tin Tam Bảo Phật Pháp Tăng còn khó hơn, nhưng được nghe danh Dược Sư Lưu Ly Quang Như Lai lại khó hơn nữa. Đây là sự so sánh chuyện khó có thể có được, thì biết không phải là chuyện dễ mà được nghe danh hiệu của Đức Phật Dược Sư. Ý Phật nói khi nghe rồi chúng ta nên phát lòng tin vững chắc, không sinh lòng nghi hoặc. Nghe rồi thì phải tìm hiểu Giáo lý của Phật, khi hiểu giáo lý rồi thì phải thay đổi lối sống, phải tu hành, chớ hời hợt chểnh mảng, chớ coi thường mà mất sự lợi ích; thì đây mới thật sự là được nghe danh hiệu Ngài, bởi vậy Đức Thích Ca nói: “đó là công hạnh rất sâu nhiệm của Chư Phật, khó tin, khó hiểu” là ở điểm này.

      Ngài cho biết Phật Dược Sư Lưu Ly Quang tu vô lượng hạnh Bồ Tát, dùng vô lượng phương tiện khéo léo, phát vô lượng nguyện rộng lớn; Ngài không thể nào nói hết được dù nói cả kiếp cũng không hết, tại sao Đức Phật Thích Ca nói ra điều này với dụng ý gì? Ý Ngài muốn nói chúng ta là người được nghe danh Phật Dược Sư, chúng ta nên theo gương như Ngài tu hành, chứ nói đến phương tiện, hạnh nguyện của Ngài thì nói hoài cả kiếp cũng không thể hết được vậy.

BỒ TÁT CỨU THOÁT TRÌNH BÀY CÓ KẺ
TẬT BỆNH HÔN MÊ BỊ GẶP DIÊM VƯƠNG

Lúc ấy Vua phán hỏi rồi kê tính những tội phước của người kia đã làm mà xử đoán. Nếu trong lúc đó, những bà con quen biết, vì người bịnh ấy, qui y với Đức Dược Sư Lưu Ly Quang Như Lai và thỉnh chúng Tăng đọc tụng kinh nầy đốt đèn tầng (5), treo thần phang tục mạng năm sắc (6) thì hoặc liền trong lúc ấy, hoặc trải qua bảy ngày, hai mươi mốt ngày, ba mươi lăm ngày, bốn mươi chín ngày. Thần thức người kia được trở lại như vừa tỉnh giấc chiêm bao, tự mình nhớ biết những nghiệp lành, nghiệp dữ và sự quả báo đã thọ. Bởi chính đã rõ thấy nghiệp báo như vậy, nên dầu có gặp phải những tai nạn nguy hiểm đến tánh mạng cũng không dám tạo những nghiệp ác nữa; vậy nên những tịnh tính thiện nam tín nữ đều phải một lòng thọ trì danh hiệu và tùy sức mình cung kính cúng dường Đức Dược Sư Lưu Ly Quang Như Lai".
GIẢI NGHĨA:
 
(1) Tướng chết hiện ra: Do nghiệp lực mà người bệnh hiện ra tướng chết, tức là lúc nửa sống nửa chết, sống không biết gì cả chết chưa phải là chết, nghĩa là lúc hôn mê. Lúc ấy thấy đủ thứ cảnh lành dữ hiện ra, thấy sứ giả đến dẫn thần thức đem đến trước mặt Vua Diêm Vương, Vua Diêm Ma Pháp Vương phán hỏi rồi tính kể những tội phước của người kia đã làm mà xử đoán, vì vậy thần thức của mình chính là Thần Câu Sanh, lại chính là nhân chứng của mình.


(2) Sứ giả: Đây là Qủy sứ do Diêm Vương sai đến bắt dẫn người hấp hối có tội đến gặp Diêm Vương.
 
(3) Diêm Ma Pháp Vương: Chữ Phạn yama-ràja; gọi trọn âm là Diêm-Ma Vương hoặc Diêm-La, trong huyền thoại Phật Giáo, thì Diêm Vương là chúa tể của Địa Ngục (s: na-raka) có địa vị phân xử tội nhân. Diêm Vương thường phải chịu hình phạt bị đổ đồng sôi vào miệng vì cũng bị luật nhân quả chi phối nên vẫn phải chịu hình phạt; Diêm Vương là người phái cái chết đến cho con người, nhắc nhở họ đừng làm gì trái với đạo lí, là người chấp hành như pháp bình đẳng không phân biệt nên gọi là Diêm Ma Pháp Vương.
 
(4) Vị Thần Câu Sinh: Câu là cặp kè, in nhau, y như có vị thần sinh cùng một lượt khi một người sinh ra, vì vị thần này biết tất cả những việc đã làm. Theo duy thức học thì chính là nghiệp thức, thần thức, hay A Lại Đa Thức của mỗi người; thức này tiếp nhận huân tập và chấp trì chủng tử của nghiệp, thức này cất chứa tất cả chủng tử thiện ác đã huân tập nên gọi là Thần Câu Sanh.
