Being a teacher. In the Buddha's sutras, it is better to be a butcher who kills animals than to be a teacher who does not know how to raise disciples. Why? Because being a butcher only carries the crime of killing, doing it alone, alone. But being a teacher without knowing how to raise disciples will lead people into wrong views, immerse themselves in evil paths, eternally fall into decline, and affect the Buddhadharma, causing the Buddha Dharma to decline. The quality of a bhikkhu determines the quality and survival of the whole Sangha. That we cannot deny! That quality is the result of elaborate training in the practice of precepts and meditation. That moral quality deserves the respect and offerings of the world. Therefore, the training of future bhikkhus, i.e. the present Sadi, becomes extremely important. The education and moral training for monastic disciples becomes the great responsibility of the masters in the Sangha. "Being a master who accepts disciples without knowing the education is a grave sin" (Yet Ma weak point). For monastics, not everyone who goes to monkhood is aware of and enlightened to the truth and goes to practice, especially a few young Sadi uncles, many times when they feel happy to go to monkhood; some middle-aged people, go to practice because of boredom, disappointment in life... But no matter what the reason, after going to practice, fulfill the duties of a monastic, strictly abide by the precepts, practice diligently, and attain enlightenment. Good results in the practice life are still respected as usual. Therefore, a person who has the heart to leave home, follow the teacher to learn the Way, is to send his whole life to the teacher. So or not, they put all their trust in the teacher. Except for those with enough willpower, have the right awareness of their monastic purpose, the rest must be thanks to the education and guidance of the master. Therefore, the duties and responsibilities of a teacher are extremely important. When the Tibetans first entered the religion, they did not have to take the three rules, but the four rules. In addition to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha (only for the Sangha), Tibetans focus on their "guide" teacher, the guru, who is the great spiritual teacher they trust to entrust their whole life with. I gave my life to that teacher, called "Upper Vajra Refuge". We think, not only Tibetans, but all of us who are new to the religion need a spiritual guide for us. Because, although the Buddha's teachings are very clear, not everyone can fully understand and practice correctly, especially in the matter of spiritual experimentation. Therefore, The role of the guide is very important. It determines our path, so it all depends on the teacher, so we must be careful when receiving a spiritual teacher for us. "Every disciple is in charge of the master". But how to find a master? Take a look at his or her body. From a teacher's way of walking, standing, lying down, etc., we know if he has spiritual energy or not. Daily activities, from gestures to words, can show the strength of a monk's practice. If the practice is not unified, we see it immediately. Therefore, the teaching lesson is the lesson with the highest and most profound educational value that we cannot find in the written language from books or schools. The Vinaya records many qualities and qualifications of a master. Summarizing those things, there are five main points as follows: 1. The age of the Way must be ten years old. 2. Must know clearly the cases of upholding and breaking, contempt and respect of precepts. 3. Knowledge must be broad. 4. Be capable of solving the disciples' thoughts and problems. 5. Able to eliminate wrong views for disciples. The five things that the above mentioned law is not outside of Tam no illegal learning: Precepts, Concentration, Tue. Three subjects that any student of the Way needs to cultivate and practice for success in his or her cultivation of the Way. That is the condition for reaching the goal of enlightenment and liberation. Only those who have the capacity for enlightenment and liberation, who are progressing on the path of liberation, are able to guide others to the same goal. If you feel that you are still weak in those three subjects, please do not accept disciples quickly. When you yourself have not achieved positive results in the process of practice, you should not accept disciples carelessly, hastily and irresponsibly. These five are spiritual, that is, the standard a master must have in order to provide spiritual guidance to his disciples. There is one more standard that a teacher must meet when accepting disciples, that is in terms of material, that is, the ability to provide means of living for disciples in life, in learning according to the minimum standard of knowledge. allowance of the monastic. The above mentioned things in the sutras and Vinaya are recorded a lot. That proves that the Buddha is very interested in the issue of acquiring and raising disciples of the monks. As a bhikkhu, even though he has not studied all the Vinaya, but with the basics of being a teacher like that, it is impossible not to know. Once upon a time when the Buddha was alive, The status of a teacher must be tested and approved by the Sangha, that is, once a teacher wants to accept a disciple, he must go out in front of them and ask for them (adopt a disciple). If the Sangha finds that he is qualified to be a teacher, he will let you adopt a disciple. And if the Sangha has not yet allowed to accept disciples, but voluntarily accepts them, it is illegal (Yet Ma is weak only). Today we cannot find such a Sangha! The admission of disciples became free and easy. Of course, the matter of accepting disciples without the advice of the Sangha would seem too troublesome. But, as has been said, the quality of a bhikkhu affects the quality and survival of the Sangha, so this matter cannot be taken lightly. It is possible that a bhikkhu has not yet fully attained what the Vinaya suttas prescribes regarding his status as a teacher, as he has not yet experienced spiritual experience. but at least he must be a pedagogical, ethical, and educational method to guide his students in true cultivation. Let's not think that shaving hair, wearing clothes, letting them learn a few Chinese characters in the book of Bhikkhus, send them to elementary and basic schools... that's done their duty, saved the monastic - Never said: "Because my disciples are too many, just worry about that much is enough" - That statement shows a very irresponsible teacher! No one told the master to take many disciples. Besides, accepting disciples is not enough to worry about. What is needed is that the teacher must be able to guide the disciples to practice the precepts (requires the teacher to strictly observe the precepts) and study the scriptures and practice meditation (requires the teacher to have experience). The teacher must have experience to solve the problems of the disciples. Have to regularly monitor how the children live, how they study, whether their practice is stable, whether they can still keep their initial monastic mind or not? … Must consider what they dream of, have nostalgia. What?… In short, it is necessary to observe the disciple's cultivation process in order to promptly guide and teach them not to let them feel abandoned and uninterested. That is the status, responsibility, and duty of a teacher when having disciples. Today, the situation of "indiscriminately" accepting disciples has reached an alarming level. Most of the masters accept disciples to do errands, to sweep temples, to build pagodas, to chant and ring the bells... instead of the abbot. Newly ordained monks and nuns are not educated and guided in practice. Most are "abandoned, helpless" not knowing what to study or do other than work in the temple; The saddest thing is not knowing how to practice! If there are people who want to rise up by studying, go to the city with no place to live, no money for school fees... In the city, there are a lot of monks and nuns in the provinces to study - study Buddhism properly - have no refuge, have to find their own accommodation and tuition. Some have to painfully accept the Buddhist house in or stay in a boarding house. How sad it is!. I write these lines with all my thoughts, feelings, with all the worries and concerns of a young monk in the same situation. But I am luckier than you, I know how to rise with my own strength. I know, not everyone has that luck. Many irony circumstances have pushed your feet into paths that are not very peaceful, if not very turbulent and dangerous. Knowing that entering is suffering, but still walking with your eyes closed, you have no choice, especially when you are sad, you are depressed, resentful, because around you, in the temple you have filled with so much suffering. Without sympathy, without sympathizers, with no one to share spiritual experiences with, practice, you are easily entangled. A long time away from the Dharma, studying Buddhism is increasingly distracted, people have a lot of entertainment, so, from the day of ordination onwards, they are not regularly watered the seeds of practice, and there is no one to guide them further. contact with the mysterious life of the Dharma, in order to have joy in the life of practice, so the current situation of monks and nuns does not "need to remember the merits of the internal organs", does not "study the teachings" but joins in studying. Real life classes are natural. Sometimes they go to school outside for no purpose, but just to fill the emptiness in their souls, staying in the temple is so sad! Try to ask how the motivation to go to school like that is effective! I still respect young monastics who have purpose and ideals. They go to school outside to equip themselves with knowledge for the purpose of serving society. That is so precious. But hey, the monastic has a much nobler purpose. What I'm pursuing today, it doesn't keep up with the world, they have up to the third year of degrees. But they still bow to me, not because I'm more educated than them, of course, because the way I walk is the way to give up what they have. I don't blame the monastic children who have become spoiled and lethargic. I sympathize because I understand their situation, lack of attention and guidance in practice. I only blame the masters who do not know their status and duties for not paying attention to them. Isn't that more than a butcher? Surely there will be people who disagree with me when blaming the master without considering the disciple. In fact, there are teachers who raise disciples very seriously and thoughtfully, but students are still spoiled as usual, especially the number of students who send them to school (in the city). Since then, the teacher strictly forbade the boys to go to school anymore, because they were afraid of them like his brother, afraid of the city environment. That is not a good method of education. Not everyone who goes to the city to study is also bad? Not everyone who goes to school is bad? It should depend on the person. The teacher's responsibility is to educate, How to raise students so that when they go anywhere, in any environment, we are not afraid of them being spoiled. That is to raise them so that their students can see the value and happiness of the practice, in the temple, they will have happiness and joy. Only with true joy and its value can we live, we can cultivate it. It must be taught that way with all love and deep sympathy. Don't scold - of course don't hit - don't use the fault of one to warn the other, by doing so the guilty child gets hurt, the innocent child feels uncomfortable because he suspects that the teacher sees himself as someone else. at fault. With all our love and understanding, we raise all our responsibilities and obligations, so it's up to the disciple at that time to fail. I know there are masters who have raised their students very wholeheartedly, lovingly like parents, but they are still spoiled. This is a great sadness for parents, be a teacher. But what can I say now? Besides love, do we reject, reject and, even, from it? Cannot! Master teachers, we know that, when a student becomes so naughty, there must be a reason. Although in the temple we raise them properly, but outside, maybe it doesn't associate with bad elements. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the student's way of life, contact and psychology. After all, whatever the reason, when our students become negligent in their practice and study, even if there are signs of lack of qualifications for monastics, we must open our hearts to receive it with all my love. Only love can transform the mistakes of its students. Besides, when it's corrupt and we abandon it, where does it go? I don't love it, Who loves it now? Maybe this is the cause to push him on the path of sin! I think, in the face of the current practice of the young monastic generation, the foundation of the future Sangha, we still have many issues to discuss, not just the requirement of "Becoming a teacher". However, the teacher is also a key role. Even so, "Future renunciation, super prosperity, eccentricity of mind" - Oh how noble, a monk who dares to step foot in the high and wide heavens, body and mind are all freed - I borrow the words of To temporarily end this article, it is praise and praise for the extraordinary actions of the monastic, with the idea that all fellow initiates, together. Sadi, all of them revived their own will to go out more strongly than expected in any other educational method.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).WORLD VIETNAESE BUDDHIST ORDER=BUDDHIST DHARMA WHEEL GOLDEN MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.22/2/2023.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.
