Wait until after Venerable Muc Lien attested to the Arhat status and obtained the Sixth Passage, the Venerable immediately observed all the worlds to find his mother; As soon as I saw her, I saw that she had fallen into hell. Because Venerable has opened the Buddha eye, the Dharma eye, the wisdom eye, and the five eyes of the six pine trees, so he can see that his mother is suffering in hell, and there is no food to eat; So the Venerable went to ask for a bowl of rice to bring to his mother. Entering hell, the venerable offered a bowl of rice to his mother. The venerable's mother when she was still alive because her greed was too heavy, Therefore, even though he fell into the form of a hungry ghost, he still couldn't get rid of his greed. She held the bowl with one hand, covered it with the lapel of her other hand, and then hurriedly ran to a place where there were no pretas, took out the rice bowl and ate it by herself. Why did she have to cover the rice bowl? Because she was afraid of other hungry ghosts coming to fight for her, when she thought that the rice was brought to her mouth, it turned into fire. What reason is this? This is because her karma is too heavy, her karma is too deep, so no matter how delicious the food is, she can't eat it! Even though Venerable Mu Lien is the first miracle, but now there is no way, no more mantras to recite, no way to perform miracles, no other way - to find a master: "Disciple's abilities learned, going there is useless!” So the Venerable returned to Ky Hoan Vihara, went to Buddha Shakyamuni, said: "My mother has fallen into hell, I brought rice to my mother, but as soon as she finished eating, the rice turned into fire. Please tell me what should I do? Merciful World-Honored One, please save my mother!" Buddha Shakyamuni immediately offered a way to help the Venerable save his mother, what is that way? Buddha said: "Because your mother slandered the Three Jewels, the pity is too great; Now you alone cannot save him. If you want to save your mother, then on the full moon day of the seventh month, which is the day when the Buddhas are happy, also when the monks are alone, you should set up the Vu Lan Ben ceremony, this is the ceremony to "resolve the mystery island" upside down). First of all, you should make offerings to the ten directions of Sangha; when the Sangha of the ten directions have not yet used these foods, he has not yet used them. He must first make offerings to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and then he can use the offerings. On this day, If you make offerings to the Three Jewels, your mother will be free from suffering and be happy!" So Venerable Muc Kien Lien dressed in this way, set up the Vu Lan Dharma Assembly, and worshiped Vu Lan Ban. So every year to this day, the pagodas hold the Dharma festival of Vu Lan Ben, the super conversion for parents in the past seven lives and for parents in the present.
