THE SURVEY OF DESIRE LEAD TO SUFFERING. The Sutra of Desire Leads to Suffering (The Sutra of Desire and Suffering) Hearing this, at one time the Buddha was in the country of Sāvat in the garden of Solitude, with a great assembly of five hundred bhikkhus. At that time, the bhikkhus, early in the morning, put on their robes and hugged their bowls and entered the city of Sāvat. At this time they met with the heretics, who asked the bhikkhus: What is the cause of suffering, Gotama recluses? How to recognize the word suffering of form, feeling, perception, formations and consciousness? What is special about these dharmas? What motives and factors make up those dhammas? What is the present Dharma of the recluse Gotama? What kernel is used to civilize to preach? The bhikkhus, hearing the above question from outsiders, left without answering. When returning, each of them thought: With such a statement, we must go to the Blessed One and ask him to make a distinction for us, and then we will serve accordingly. When the monks returned from their alms round, having finished their meal, they changed their clothes and went to the Buddha's place, bowed down at his feet, sat down to one side, and spoke to the Blessed One in order of rank about the Buddha. the problems of the pagans. Then the Blessed One said to the bhikkhus, that what the pagans ask them is the matter of craving, you should ask again (so, according to you) what happiness is there in craving? what's so sad? Why does it arise, and why does it disappear? then the pagans will be silent and cannot answer. The Buddha said, I don't see anyone who can explain the above meaning, why is that? This is not an area for people to understand. At that time, the Buddha looked around all over the realms of ghosts, brahma, brahma, gods, and human beings, or raised this question, at this time their minds became joyful and very eager to hear. Buddha taught, because sex pollutes so the ear likes to hear good sounds, the nose likes fragrance, the tongue likes good taste, the body is smooth, the concept of greed; because sex stirs, the mind is greedy for the dharmas... including five sex items, from the cause and effect, then the mind takes it as pleasure. The Buddha told the bhikkhus, what is the suffering of desire? such as a person who for the sake of means of living, establishes a career, has many thoughts, or works as a technician, or is a great official, or a painter, or a divination, or a sculptor, or a painter, or predicting the weather... encountering freezing cold, or hot weather, starving to death, or encountering rain and wind, or encountering mosquitoes, changing bodies... they tend to these things just because of their own desire, desire for money talent, uneasiness, mind to place wealth, then mournfully cry, beat chest, angry: we are very foolish with this property, with no results; Even if you work diligently to build a career, build a home and a lot of wealth, you end up creating and not keeping. The other person began to experience a lot of suffering and pain when he was taken away by the king, or was taken away by the district officials, by fire, by robbers, by the unjust family, by the left owner, his possessions were suddenly dissipated, impermanently stolen, and dissolved. abandoned houses, lost possessions… the other person was therefore embracing sorrow. When he was invaded by fire and water thieves, he was in pain, crying uncontrollably: all my life I was worried about collecting wealth, now suddenly lost everything, how can I live. This is the anxiety of desire, because it is the disorder of the mind that leads to this pain. The Buddha told the monks, again, because the desire for attachment arises, the mind is agitated, so the father says the child is wrong, the child says the father is wrong, the mother says the child is wrong, the child says the mother is wrong, the brother says I am wrong, the younger brother says I'm wrong, you say I'm wrong, you say I'm wrong, The family lineage speaks ill of each other, this is the affliction of lust. The causes leading to suffering are due to multiple desires, lethargy, and indulgence in sex. The Buddha again told the monks, again, the suffering of greed is rooted in craving, the mind is loose. Because of greed, he should take up arms, raise bows and arrows, enter battle, start four battles. infantry: elephants, horses, chariots, and feet to fight each other, this is a fierce battle, because sex loses its body, closeness and kinship, flourishes with each other. Because of greed, we commit sin, we are restless, we seek wealth, or we gain wealth, or we fail to obtain or lose our possessions, suffer and are sad, weep our heads and beat our chests to show resentment: our wealth today Now it's gone... This is the suffering of lust, the suffering of attachment, because the mind is lethargic and immersed in it. The Buddha told the monks, Again, the suffering of sex is because of attachment to love as the root, letting go of the mind, father and son blaming each other, mother and daughter getting angry, husband and wife divorce, sisters hating each other, brothers discord, relatives in the family slander each other. each other; This is the suffering of desire, the pain of love, because the mind is let loose and immersed in sex, the Buddha told the monks, again the suffering of sex is because of attachment to craving as the root, letting go. swaying their minds, holding sharp swords, or holding knives and sticks to deal with each other, or in a deserted place smashing the walls, angry in their hearts, wanting to take people's lives, or throwing fire rings, boiling oil on people; with this evil creation, either causing suffering or leading to death. This is the suffering of lust, the pain of love, because the mind is lethargic, immersed in sex. The Buddha said to the bhikkhus, again, The suffering of desire is caused by attachment to craving as the root, letting go of one's mind, breaking the door of another's house, cutting off the road, cutting a wall, stealing at night, hiding in a secluded place, or after fighting arson, then hiding; When the king and mandarin heard about it, he sent people to bind him and put him in prison, and then tortured and beaten, cut off his ears, nose, hands and feet, or beheaded, or was forced to stand and use the penalty of shackles, bricks, stones, locked in a prison. rabbit hole, or left in an earthen pot, or cooked in a cauldron of boiling water, or splashed with boiling oil on the body... This is the result of the suffering of lust, the pain of love, because of the mind's lethargy. , indulge in sex. The Buddha told the monks, again, the suffering of lust because of attachment to craving as the root, letting go of the mind and body, lusting after bad things, cursing with the mouth rudely, being cruel in the heart, not protecting the body. password, do not think about the next life... until the life span is no longer, the spirit soul has just come out, it falls into the dark realm of suffering, day and night is damned with persistent years; This is the suffering of lust, the pain of love, because of letting go of the mind, immersed in sex. The Buddha said to the monks, how then is it possible to renounce sensuality and stop evil? For all sensual pleasures, completely cut off craving, cut off the lust, thus letting go of desire. If the Brahmin contemplatives realize that craving is the cause of suffering, and understand that craving is like that, they should advise everyone to overcome that desire; such as encouraging others to pay attention to liberation, with the desire to cross to the other shore is nothing more. If the Brahmin contemplatives still indulged in craving, they wouldn't be able to contemplate the filthiness of craving. If a person understands sex, such as not following it, he can civilize everyone and cross over to the other shore, save himself and save others, and when he achieves these two things, his mind will be at peace without doubt. , that's the wise man. What people like like the wife of the Elder, Pham Chi's wife is fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, twenty years old, neither tall nor short, not fat, not thin, neither white nor black, beautiful as The tree has just blossomed… The Buddha told the monks, at first the eyes follow the predestined conditions and then arise the mentality of liking…this is the passion of sex. What suffering for which form is the cause? here is to see the age of a woman, when the old man is old, at the age of eighty or ninety years old, a hundred years old, or a hundred and twenty years old, his head is gray, his teeth are falling, his face is wrinkled, his skin is sagging, and his body is heavy. depressed, dragging with a cane, sick o weary, walking miserable, The body is corrupt…Bhikkhus, what do you think when there is nothing more dignified and beautiful, when beauty comes to be like that? The bhikkhus replied: Yes, venerable sir, this is the suffering of form. The Buddha told the bhikkhus again, seeing a woman after death, one day two days, up to five or six days, her body turns green, bloats and stinks, revealing impurities from the nine holes coming out. , worms are born in the body, and the worms come back to eat that body, bhikkhus, what do you think, formerly dignified, beautiful in appearance, now no longer beautiful, changed like that? The bhikkhus replied: That's right, World-Honored One. The Buddha said, this is the real suffering of the form body. The Buddha said again, or saw a woman lying on the ground, rotting, crows coming to eat, hawks coming to peck, tigers, wolves, foxes eating meat, and many other insect species born from the other body and come back to eat meat. that body; What do you think, bhikkhus, formerly virtuous, beautiful, and dead, where is the end of the body? The bhikkhus replied: That's right, Lord World-Honored One. The Buddha said, this is the painful truth of desire. The Buddha told the bhikkhus, if you see a woman again, her skin is loose, leaving only white bones, formerly righteous and beautiful, now lost and gone, would the other body be like this? The bhikkhus replied, that's right, World-Honored One. The Buddha said, this is the real suffering of craving. The Buddha told the Bhikkhus, or saw the female vertebrae leaving the limbs, legs, feet, ears, noses and ears, elbows, heads, necks, etc., in one place; What do you think, bhikkhus, before that was righteous and beautiful, now why not, is the present reality of suffering? The bhikkhus replied: Yes, Lord World-Honored One. The Buddha said: This is the real suffering of sex. The Buddha told the monks, seeing that woman being left in a high grave for many years, her bones were crushed, white and green like jade, broken like powder... Monks, what do you think, before? righteous, beautiful beauty, now why not see, is the current situation the truth of suffering? The bhikkhus replied: Yes, Lord World-Honored One. The Buddha taught, this is the truth of the pain and suffering of lust. The Buddha told the bhikkhus, whoever is able to get rid of sensual pleasures, to put an end to sensual pleasures, to get rid of sensual pleasures, to abandon covetousness and to be uncontaminated, until he is not attached to form, is a monk or a Brahma. solstice. Knowing such color to be calm; If you can see the true suffering of the other form body, you can see the suffering of samsara. With such a clear understanding, there is no attachment to form... consciousness and this new transformation helps others to cross to the other shore. If someone wanted to rely on that form to get away from it, this might be the case. If a recluse or a brahmin, depending on form and sensual pleasures, sees the true suffering of form, wants to be separated from form, and abandons feelings, he will see it as it is. Contemplating all colors, encouraging people to reach the other shore. Knowing form as the object, abandoning greed for form, can overcome suffering. The Buddha told the bhikkhus, how can painful feelings become peaceful? Shaking off the prana, here the bhikkhus have been free from all sensual pleasures, separated from evil and unwholesome dharmas, memorized and pondered, and serenely solitary is the practice of the First Jhāna. If a bhikkhu is one who has attained the First jhāna, then he has no attachment to self, If there is no attachment to form, there is no more mind than loss, no holding on to anger, this is a bhikkhu who has no anger or anger towards painful feelings. When we no longer feel anger, pain and pleasure, which is the basis of the practice of happy feeling, and that feeling disappears, the pleasant perceptions (thoughts of pleasurable sensations) and inner thoughts are calm and the other mind is no longer present. thoughts of non-action, very quiet and peaceful, this is the second meditation. If a bhikkhu who has practiced the Second jhāna is free from attachment to the self, does not cling to that consciousness arising and passing away, contemplates the craving of that sensuality, and no longer gives rise to thoughts of sensual pleasures, dwells in bodily karma in If you meditate quietly, you will have peace, often contemplating the intention, to go to the third meditation. If a bhikkhu practices the Third Jhāna, and clearly understands desire from feeling, the other person will end suffering and attain peace when he has ended his defilements. Suffering no longer recurs, whether you gain or lose your mind, there is neither suffering nor joy. Contemplating the dharma as above, the mind rests in meditation and is full of purity. If a bhikkhu is practicing the fourth jhāna, there is peace here from (letting go) of feeling. Again, bhikkhus, there is a condition in which feeling arises craving for pleasure, this is pleasure in suffering. What is the suffering of feelings? Because of feeling, suffering arises, the anxiety of afflictions, this is the pain and suffering of feeling. Moreover, the painful feeling is the suffering of impermanence, the separation from (not-self), these dhammas are all sensations, the arising of the dhamma impermanent, suffering, up to separation (no-self), here is the suffering of sensations. What is renunciation of feelings? For the other sensations the cessation of desire, this is renunciation. If a recluse or a brahmin clearly understands feelings, he will attain peace. All suffering is caused by not letting go of cravings. When you know it as it really is, and then rely on feelings to save everyone to the other shore, you can achieve it yourself, and you can also save others. If any contemplative or brahmin could see the favorite place of feelings, from liking leading to suffering and abandoning craving, discerning them as they really are, contemplating feelings without clinging to them, he would encourage everyone to transcend. to the other shore. To accomplish this by oneself and to lead others to be able to do this is called letting go of craving and having peace and joy.
