Cultivate merit and return to rebirth.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
In the Sutra of Contemplation of Infinite Life, it is written: "The Buddha told Ananda and Vi De Hy that if any sentient being wishes to be born in the Western Pure Land, they should generate three minds in order to be reborn.
Those three minds are:
1. Sincere heart
2. Heartfelt
3. Devoted to generate vows.
Having enough of these three minds, he is determined to be reborn in that land."
The word "heart" in the sutras refers to the mind that practices virtues and likes to do good deeds.
The word "dedication to generate aspiration" refers to the mind that wants to bring the merits of cultivation or to bring the good deeds done, towards the fruit of Ultimate Bliss to pray for rebirth.
In Buddhism, the dedication of merit has an important value. The 20th great vow of Amitabha Buddha has been mentioned. So please briefly explain the meaning of the dedication of merit as follows:
1. The Buddha's virtues and titles have inconceivable powers:
2. The pure mind of beings has inconceivable powers;
3. The mind of sentient beings also has inconceivable power. The combination of these three inconceivable powers forms the Pure Land method. Therefore, the Pure Land dharma is also inconceivable.
Theoretically, just reciting the Buddha's name is enough to be reborn, but in the body and mind of the practitioner when practicing the Pure Land method, in addition to the power to recite the Buddha's name, it is also necessary to cultivate virtues, dedicate the results of rebirth, because:
1. Need to make offerings to Amitabha Buddha to decorate the Buddha's land.
2. Need to do the high-quality support for the path results.
3. Need to develop Mahayana mind to study according to Bodhisattva's conduct.
Because of the above reasons, it is enough not only to recite the Buddha's name but also to think it is enough. Nothing can separate cause and effect; whether it is worldly dharma or worldly dharma. Regardless of good or bad thoughts or good or bad actions, there are consequences later. Based on that, we can know that a practitioner who practices kusala is determined to receive blessings in the future. Assuming that the good is of the human nature, then in the future, it will enjoy the blessings of humanity, but not the end of peace, because there is still rebirth in samsara. Assuming that the good is of the type of human being that is not smuggled out of the world, then in the future will be born in the Five Imperfections (the realm of the four holy fruits: Tu Da Hoan, Tu Da Ham, Ana Ham, Arahant) or ten. Pure Land.
If, for the reason that he does not want to enjoy human retribution, because he is afraid of reincarnation, he voluntarily dedicates all his or her merit, either unscrupulous or unstained merit, as an aid to the higher order to pray. Amitabha's rebirth in the Ultimate Bliss. In this way, many previous causes of meritorious blessings will not be matured, but the place of maturity will be only in the world of Ultimate Bliss. Having gathered in one place, even though the karma is not complete, the results are still achieved.
Because all dharmas are caused by the mind. The mind that has the ability to grow karma also has the ability to change karma. Therefore, when the practitioner directs all his good karma towards the fruit of Ultimate Bliss, that thought not only has the power to harmonize the unstained seeds that have been cultivated in the eighth consciousness, it also makes those seeds know the quality. The seed of the pure Dharma is completely unstained, the seed has already been decided, so the future place to enjoy the retribution can also be known with certainty. This is an explanation according to the mind-only doctrine, a very profound doctrine in the Buddhadharma.
In the Pure Land method, dedication occupies a very important place. Practitioners must be faithful to take effect.
In case, if there is still a single point of doubt in the heart, the mind will lose its use, unable to change the seeds in the eight consciousnesses. If the mind has doubts, the Pure Land method will not bring any effect to the practitioner. The sutras say: "If in doubt, the flower will not bloom" is only for that reason.
Amitabha Buddha knew that the seed could turn from being smuggled to unstained, and merit could be transferred from one realm to another, so he made the 20th great vow. Over the past hundred thousand years, the Great Buddhas. Virtue also understands that fact, so he composes the vows to dedicate, to ecstasy, to advise us to dedicate the merits of our practice towards the fruit of rebirth in the Pure Land of Bliss.
No matter what meritorious deeds you do, whether you only help a poor person with a coin or just save the life of an ant, after doing so, you must visualize Amitabha Buddha as if standing in front of you, clasping your hands in a bow. glass read the verse in the following directions:
Prayer brings this merit
dignified place of Buddha degrees
on the temple four deep thanks
Below save three lines suffering
If someone saw listen
Cogeneration Bodhicitta
When chronic newspaper this body
Country Bliss at the
after When I read that verse, how much merit I have done immediately feels the Buddha's energy corresponding to our own mind. The power of the two sides' induction is the "privilege" of rebirth in Ultimate Bliss later on.
All the merit dedicated, regardless of whether it is of the kind that is tainted or not, becomes the income of rebirth in accordance with the 20th great vow of Amitabha Buddha. Will definitely be satisfied later on.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.31/5/2021.
2. Tâm thức thanh tịnh của chúng sanh có công năng bất khả tư nghì;
Vì rằng hết thảy các pháp đều do tâm đạo.
Buddha's Enlightenment.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
There is no dharma that obstructs the Buddha, there is no dharma that the Buddha does not clearly see and know, so his disciples often call him the Dharma King. All of the Buddha's powers were born from His Wisdom, that is, from the content of realizing the Unsurpassed Perfection of Enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
All of the Buddha's powers were born from His Wisdom, that is, from the content of realizing the Unsurpassed Perfection of Enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. Once, a wandering ascetic named Vacchagotta asked the Buddha, "World-Honored One, I have heard people say that the recluse Gotama is the omniscient, the one with the highest understanding, and he claims to have perfect knowledge. safety, when walking, when standing, when sleeping, when knowledge always exists and is continuous.
World-Honored One, are these things that people say true, do they slander the Blessed One? The Buddha replied that what they said was not true to what he said, slandering me. Thus the Buddha denied that he had a kind of Wisdom that is ever present and omniscient, both awake and asleep. Vacchagotta asked: How should I say it? The Buddha taught that if you want to speak correctly, you must say that the recluse Gotama is the one with the Three Intelligences.
When we want, we will remember many past lives, such as one life, two lives… to many past lives with outlines and details. Hey Vacchagotta, if we want to, with the pure divine eye, we can see the life and death of living beings, the lowly, the noble, the beautiful, the ugly, the lucky and the unlucky... all due to their karmic actions. . With the cessation of taints, Vacchagotta, in the present moment, with the supreme wisdom of enlightenment, one abides without taints of liberated mind, liberated wisdom. To say that is to say the right thing about me. (Vacchagotta's Three Wisdom Sutras).
Thus, the Tam Minh: Wisdom of the life, the wisdom of the Heavens, and the end of the mind are the content of Buddha's enlightenment. In particular, only the Buddha can fully possess the Three Intelligences, although on the path of cultivation, the Three Intelligences are always considered to be the final results of an enlightened practitioner. This may be one of the things that differentiates the Buddha and his disciples. The process of enlightenment starts from:
"Leaving away from the unwholesome dharma, attaining and dwelling in the first meditation, a state of bliss born of the separation of sensual pleasures, has the fourfold application. The cessation of application and the four attainments and the second meditation stay, one The state of joy and happiness due to concentration is born, no thoughts, no thoughts, inner peace of mind.. . Discharge happiness, discharge pain, kill joy and sadness that have been felt before, witness and stay in the fourth meditation, neither suffering nor pleasure, pure mindfulness discharge."
The Buddha and his noble disciples all went through the Four jhānas, on the basis of the fourth jhāna, the mind is calm and pliable, easy to use, the practitioner can direct the mind to the objects of the Six Supernatural powers or the Three Intelligences, realize enlightenment. ultimate. This is the first route. This route was promoted and became very popular. Most teachers are in this direction. The second path is from the fourth jhāna, passing through the base of boundless space, is overcoming the perception of form, the hindrance of perception. Directing the mind to space is boundless witness and dwelling in boundless space. Overcome continuing to witness and stay in the base of boundless consciousness. Overcome boundless consciousness and abide in the base of Nothingness. Overcome no-own-origin witness and stay in Phi Phi Phi Phi Perception. Overcoming the Phi Phi Phi Phi Phi perception origin, witnessing and staying in the cessation of life, thought concentration. From this samadhi, he realizes the Three Intelligences. This route the Buddha also passed. (Distinction of the Six Lands, the Parable of the Flying Bird).
In the Theravada Canon, there is no record of any saintly disciple claiming to have attained the Three Wisdoms. Usually, they are introduced to have attained Arahantship, experienced cessation of life, thought, and eradicated the contraband or (equivalent to the latent Gonorrhea). In the Six Purifications (Central Sutras), the Buddha taught about the process of a bhikkhu's cultivation, when he had attained the fourth jhāna, he said: "With a mind that is still, pure and unblemished, free from afflictions, pliable. So easy to use, so steady, so calm, I lead the mind, direct it to the Endless Knowledge I know as it really is: This is suffering, this is the cause of suffering, this is the cessation of suffering, this is the path leading to suffering Know as it really is: This is the taints, this is the Cause of the taints, this is the contraband or being eradicated, this is the way leading to the taints or to be eliminated.”
Thus, it is necessary for disciples to be free from the "sorry of desire, of being, and of ignorance" in order to attain "birth ended, holy life accomplished, what needed to be done has been done; there is no going back to this state. again." From this we can clearly see that the spiritual ability of the disciples is limited, and the problem of spiritual attainment is not related to the ability of supernatural powers, so we are not surprised to see that Mr. Muc Kien- Lien is said to be a disciple of God's number one disciple. The Buddha did not encourage his disciples to go into the supernatural powers such as Than Tuc, Thien Nhan, Tha Tam, Toc Life, and Thien Nhan; he focused and encouraged his disciples to turn their minds to Luu Minh to achieve the ultimate goal, liberation from birth and death. Supernatural abilities do not help a person who has not eliminated the defilements of the mind.
The process of Buddha's enlightenment is a series of breakthroughs, overcoming all challenges by experiment. All turbulent dharmas are transcended and attained to the abiding of the immovable. Especially in the states of the fourth jhāna a feeling of happiness (pleasure feeling) arose, even in the three wisdoms there was a feeling of happiness, but these feelings existed without dominating his mind (Saccaka Sutra ).
As for the supernatural powers, he has gradually attained the divine ability, the divine ability, and the other mind before he became a Buddha. On the night of his enlightenment, he witnessed the last 3 divine powers in the order of Tuc network communication, Thien eye clairvoyance and Thorough communication. Buddha taught: "When I have not yet attained Perfect Enlightenment, I have tried my best to practice the 5 dharmas: I have cultivated the Divine Consciousness with Desire and Concentration, which requires practice, Diligence, concentration, and action. If we need to practice and increase our efforts, depending on what dharma we turn our mind to, we can attain it” (Ang Chi II). There is no dharma that obstructs the Buddha, there is no dharma that the Buddha does not clearly see and know, so his disciples often call him the Dharma King.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.31/5/2021.
For the Dharma to last long.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
The Dharma of the Buddha is a wonderful treasure, a source of wisdom, capable of washing away defilements, leading to peace and liberation.
The liberating flavor of the Buddhadharma always flows, blends, and permeates the mind to relieve suffering and pain for the world. The Dharma is the path that the Buddha enlightened, preached, and led all sentient beings out of suffering to Nirvana, peace and liberation. If the Dharma is still present, sentient beings will be less confused. Magical dharma still exists, the evil dharma weakens and perishes. That Dharma is preached by the Tathagata like the mighty roar of a lion, driving away evil, opening the door of birth and death. The Dharma is the lighthouse, the light of wisdom that brings people over the edge of delusion, back to the wharf. As a result, all Buddhists, whether ordained or lay-at-home, wish to abide by the eternal Dharma (long-lasting) in this world.
Being aware of the great value of the Dharma for the life of the five evils, from the noble disciples, to the Patriarchs through many generations... all seek to preserve, maintain and promote Righteousness. The events of assembling sutras taking place in the history of Buddhism are also not for the purpose of filtering out heresies, misunderstandings, and deviant practices, and at the same time preserving the original value of the Buddha's teachings.
When a believer deeply understands, clearly sees the true value of the Buddha's teachings, and has many dharmas and joys when applying the practice, he always wishes how the Dharma could be universalized to everyone. so that the Dharma will remain in the world. With many methods to preserve the Dharma, in which the correct understanding and practice in accordance with the spirit of the Buddha's teachings is the most practical way for the Eternal Dharma to stay.
According to the Vinaya: "The precepts are the life span of the Buddhadharma; the precepts remain, the Buddhadharma remains; the precepts cease, the Buddha Dharma ceases." This statement is not intended to show disdain between sutras and rules, but emphasizes practice. As long as the Buddha's disciples still apply and practice according to the Buddha's teachings, the Buddhadharma will still exist. This spirit is clear and pervasive in all Buddhist traditions. Remember, only the germs of the lion can eat the lion. In the same way, the existence or destruction of the Buddha's teachings is due to the Buddha's disciples themselves, and no outside force can destroy the Dharma.
Reflecting in many suttas, the Buddha not only kindly advised his disciples, but also taught the true Dharma practice so that the True Dharma would last forever. In order for the Dharma to stay in the world for a long time, it is not just an effort to build a big Buddha temple, not just a reception of the large Sangha... but a practice, the truth of cultivation, practice. The Buddha taught, there are five factors that lead to chaos, instability, and disappearance of the Dharma, and there are five causes that lead to the wonderful dharma that remains, is not confused, and does not disappear.
“Here, the Male-stilts, the Male-stilts do not carefully listen to the Dharma; carelessly memorize the dharma; not careful life maintenance; carelessly observe the meaning of the dharmas are maintained; carelessly practicing the dharma and depending on the dhamma after understanding the meaning and understanding of the dhamma. These five dharmas, bhikkhus, lead to the disappearance of the wonderful dharma.
These five dharmas, bhikkhus, lead to the wonderful dharma that abides, does not perish, does not disappear. What is the year? Here, the Male-stilts, Male-stilts carefully listen to the Dharma; carefully memorize the dharma; carefully uphold the law; carefully observe the meaning of the dharmas are maintained; carefully practice the dharma and follow the dharma after understanding the meaning and understanding of the dharma.”
Here are five factors to watch out for. Cautiousness is an attitude that needs to be sought, esteemed, and careful. Careful listening to the Dharma is paying attention, listening in mindfulness, the mind is not conditioned or drowsy - lethargy, agitated and doubtful while listening to the Dharma. When you have a careful mind, you will listen to the Buddha's teachings, not the Buddha who says one thing and listens to another so that the three stars lose their duties. There are many times when the ear still listens without remembering, listening to one ear ignoring the other, or ignoring the ear, listening as well as not listening. Listening carefully to the Dharma is literature and wisdom, the first basis for achieving wisdom and cultivating wisdom.
Careful memorization of the Dharma is the ability to memorize and recite the three canons of Sutra, Vinaya, and Abhidhamma. Memorize clearly about the meaning of owls, without errors, without forgetting. There was a tradition of memorization in the early stages of Buddhism. The recitation movement played an important role in preserving the Dharma before the Buddhist scriptures were written down. Venerable Ananda is the first multi-literate, capable of remembering the Buddha's teachings without missing a single word. Today, this tradition of recitation is still maintained in a number of Theravada countries, of which Burma is a country where many masters and complete Tripitakas are memorized.
Careful observance of the Dharma is key because it emphasizes the practice. To taste the taste of the path of liberation, one must practice according to the teachings of the Buddha. Because the Buddha's Dharma is to come to see, not to come to believe. Practicing the Dharma is like tasting a bowl of soup with your tongue, knowing its delicious taste. And if you don't practice, you can't feel the deliciousness of the soup like a spoon.
To carefully observe the meaning of dharmas that are upheld is to develop insight to see the wonderful meaning of dharmas. In the sutra it is often said: "The medical scriptures explain the three worlds of Buddha's injustice, and the most disparate scriptures mean the same magic theory". Practitioners need to understand the truth and the means. The sutras are the means to the truth, the Buddhist scriptures are like a finger pointing to the moon, or like a boat carrying people across to the other shore. If you cling to the sutras, it's like trying to cling to your finger but not seeing the moon, or trying to cling to a boat, you won't be able to cross to the other shore. But if you don't follow your finger, you can't see the moon, if you don't rely on a boat, you can't cross to the other side. One who carefully observes the meaning of dharmas to be upheld is to understand the means and the end, so as not to fall into wrong attachment.
Carefully practicing the dharma and depending on the dharma after understanding the meaning and understanding of the dhamma is the final factor in applying the practice in accordance with the true meaning of the dharma. When practicing rightly like this, the result is peaceful and liberated right here and now. All the factors on the path of practice lie in the wisdom root, the last important factor of the Three-way path of learning Precepts, Concentration, and Wisdom. Only wisdom can destroy ignorance and craving. Only wisdom can end the defilements, cut off all the roots of craving and attachment to enter enlightenment and liberation.
Therefore, these five careful steps are the five key elements, the essence of the path of learning and cultivating the Way. Without these five steps, the Dharma will be confused and disappear; but if you practice according to these five steps, it will lead to the wonderful dharma that remains, without confusion, without disappearing.
In the Sayutta Nikāya, the Buddha also taught that there are five dharmas that cause the wonderful dharma to be confused and disappear, and there are also five dharmas that lead to the abiding, stable, and non-disappearing of the wonderful dharma.
“There are, Kassapa, five dharmas that cause the wonderful dharma to be confused and disappear. What is the year?
Here, Kassapa, the Male-stilts, Male-stilts-ni, male and female lay people live without respect, not subject to the Master (Buddha); live without respect, not subject to the Dharma; live without respect, not subject to them Increase; living without respect, not subject to precepts; live without reverence, without consent to meditation.
Kassapa, it is these dharmas that lead to confusion, the disappearance of the wonderful dharma.
And there are five dharmas, Kassapa, that lead to the abiding, enduring, non-disappearing of the Dharma. What is the year?
Here, Kassapa, the Male-stilts, Female-stilts-ni, male lay people, female lay people live respectfully, depending on the Master; live respectfully, according to the Dharma; live respectfully, according to them Increase; live respectfully, according to the precepts; Live respectfully according to meditation.
It is these five dharmas, Kassapa, that lead to the abiding, enduring, and non-disappearing of the dharma." [Suttas of Sayutta]
These five contents convey the message that only practice can bring liberation to oneself and preserve the Dharma. When a Buddha's disciple lives with reverence and respect, and practices according to the holy world aggregates, the holy concentration aggregates and the holy wisdom aggregates; Inheriting the Dharma, not inheriting the property, the Dharma is always bright and clear. "Bhikkhus, what are the dharmas that I have realized and taught, which you must well study, realize, practice, and propagate so that the holy life may last forever, for the happiness of others. sentient beings, for the sake of the welfare of living beings, out of compassion for the world, for the benefit, for happiness, for the welfare of gods and humans? It is the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, the Four Right Efforts, the Four Divine Powers, the Five Roots, the Five Powers, the Seven Bodhi and the Eight Noble Paths. It is these, bhikkhus, that I have realized and taught. that you must skillfully learn, realize, practice, and propagate so that the holy life will last forever, for the sake of the happiness of sentient beings, for the compassion of the world, for the sake, for the sake of happiness, for the sake of peace. happiness for gods and humans” [Long Bodhi, Mahaparinirvana Sutra].
Practicing the new Dharma is making offerings to the Tathagata.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
The Buddha's disciples love to make offerings to the Blessed One to cultivate good roots and cultivate merit. Usually, we often buy rice, water, incense, lamps, flowers, fruits (six offerings) as offerings to the Buddha. After sincerely offering, my heart feels happy with the good deeds done.
Diligently worshiping the Buddha and the Three Jewels in general will achieve outstanding results in the present and in the future.
In addition to the way of offering as mentioned, there is another very special offering, which is receiving and practicing the Dharma. This is one of the important teachings and instructions of the Blessed One near Nirvana for his disciples. This shows that the Buddha foresaw the possibility that later his disciples would prefer to worship and worship rather than study and practice according to his teachings.
“Once upon a time, the Buddha was living in Mount Kysarak, in the city of La-guest, with a large assembly of bhikkhus.
(…)
At that time, the Blessed One entered the city of Ko-thi, went to the native land, in the middle of the forest of the two lives of the Mala family, and said to Ananda:
- Fix the place in the middle of the twin life tree for me to lie down, with the head facing the north, the face facing the west. This is so, because My teachings will be handed down for a long time in the North.
- Ananda replied: Yes. Then clear the place, let the head be built to the North. Then the World-Honored One took the Sangha himself folded in half, covered himself, and lay on his side like a lion king, his legs overlapping. At that time, among the twin life trees, there were ghosts and gods who devoted themselves to the Buddha, and scattered flowers in the wrong season on the ground. The Buddha told Ananda that:
- The god of the twin life tree took the wrong-season flowers to make offerings to me like that, not yet made offerings to the Tathagata.
Ananda said:
- Why is it an offering to the Tathagata?
The Buddha taught:
- Those who know how to receive and properly practice the Dharma, are those who make offerings to the Tathagata.
Contemplating this meaning, the Buddha said the verse:
Buddha in the middle Song life
Lying on his side, mind not disordered
Spirit tree pure mind
Spread flowers on Buddha.
Ananda asked the Buddha:
What is an offering?
Listen to the Dharma and practice
Offering by means of the Buddha.
Yellow flowers like a wheel
Not an offering to the Buddha
Kettle, precepts, entering selflessness
Is the best offering.
The last teachings of the Buddha are always extremely important. By the way the tree gods gathered flowers in the wrong season to offer, the Buddha immediately taught that even offering flowers of gold as large as a wheel is not as precious as the flower of enlightenment. It is listening to the Dharma and properly practicing the Dharma that is really making offerings to the Tathagata. Of course, bringing six offerings (six offerings) to the Buddha will bring immeasurable blessings, but studying and practicing the right Dharma will create outstanding merit, one can escape birth and death in this life.
I think, the Buddha wants to tell us that those who have enough of the six offerings along with studying and practicing the right Dharma to make offerings to the Tathagata are very precious. Because it is not enough to just offer six offerings to the Tathagata. If those who because of certain circumstances do not have the six offerings, just make offerings to the Tathagata by studying and practicing the right Dharma. This way of making offerings, the merits and demerits are even more superior than making the six offerings. In particular, if you practice the Dharma and reach "Warmth, precepts, enter no-self", the Buddha asserts that it is the first-class offering. Practicing the Dharma, seeing that the body, mind, and world are all selfless is the ultimate offering to the Tathagata.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.31/5/2021.
