Girimānanda Sutra - Buddha Teaching the Sick. on one occasion the Blessed One was staying at Sāvatthī, at Jetavana, Anāthapiṇḍika's garden. At that time, Venerable Girimānanda was sick, suffering, seriously ill. Then the venerable Ānanda went to the Blessed One; After arriving, he bowed down to the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Sitting down to one side, Venerable Ānanda said to the Blessed One: - Venerable Girimānanda, venerable sir, is sick, suffering, seriously ill. It would be good if the Blessed One went to the venerable Girimānanda out of compassion. "If, Ānanda, the monk went to the bhikkhu Girimānanda and recited the ten perceptions, then this might happen: the bhikkhu Girimānanda after hearing the ten perceptions, his illness could be immediately relieved. . (10) And what, Ānanda, is mindfulness of the in-breath and out-breath? Here, Ānanda, a bhikkhu goes to a forest, or to a tree, or to an empty house, and sits cross-legged, with his back straight, to meditate in front of him. Mindful, he breathes in; mindful, he breathes out. Breathing in long, he knows: "I breathe in long". Breathing out long, he knows: "I breathe out long", Or breathing in short, he knows "I breathe in short"; or breathe out short, he knows: "I breathe out short". "Feeling the whole body, I will breathe in," he practices. "Feeling the whole body, I will breathe out," he practices. "Calm the body, I will breathe in," he practices. "Calm the body, I will breathe out," he practices. "Feeling joyful feeling, I will breathe in," he practices. "Feeling happy, I will breathe out," he practices. "Feeling of bliss, I will breathe out," he practices. "Contemplating the cessation of greed, I will breathe in." He practices. "Contemplating detachment from greed, I will breathe out," he practices. "Contemplating cessation, I will breathe in." , he practices. "Contemplating cessation, I will breathe out," he practices. "Contemplating renunciation, I will breathe in," he practices. "Contemplating renunciation, I will breathe out," he practices. This, Ānanda, is mindfulness of breathing in and out.. Ānanda, if you went to the monk Girimānanda and recited these ten perceptions, would this happen: the monk Girimānanda, after hearing these ten perceptions, , his illness was immediately relieved." Then Venerable Ānanda, having memorized these ten perceptions from the Blessed One, went to Venerable Girimānanda and, on arrival, spoke to Venerable Girimānanda these ten perceptions. Venerable Girimānanda, after hearing these ten perceptions, his illness was immediately relieved. Venerable Girimānanda, freed from that disease.
