"Growing merit in the Saints, this good root can not end."  This holy people does not mean the assembly of all saints but the pure and harmonious sangha. Of course, a monk is not a saint, and where monks are not pure or harmonious, that place does not exist. In fact, nowadays, the monastic assemblies who meet the standard of the Holy Family are not many but they are not nonexistent. 

In other words, those assemblies that practice and attain the Precepts of Wisdom are the fertile fields for us to cultivate merit. The Sangha plays a very important role, thanks to the Sangha making full use of the power, the Three Jewels endure in the world. Ceremony, offerings, maintenance, obedience to the instructions, vow to follow in the footsteps of monks, is to cultivate merit in the Saints.
