Category: THE MADHYAMA AGAMA SUTRA MIDDLE LENGTH SAVINGS.
T O heard something like this:
At one time, the Buddha was traveling in the country of Sāvat, in the forest of Thang, in the lonely garden of Level. At that time, the Venerable Sa-Mon of the Twelve Immortals [02] also traveled in the country of Sa-vai , in the forest of Am Lam [01]; At the beginning of the night, in the middle of the night, and at the end of the night, they all study without sleep, diligently stay upright, and practice the Way. At that time, the venerable recluse Nirvana lived alone in a quiet place, meditating, thinking, "If any disciple of the Blessed One needs to study the true law, I am a first class, yet the mind has not been liberated from the taints. My parents' house is extremely wealthy, with a lot of money, should I now give up my precepts, give up virtue, devote myself to giving, and practice meritorious deeds?"
At that time, the Blessed One, knowing with his other mind the thoughts of the venerable recluse, the Venerable Thirteen, said to a bhikkhu:
"Go to that place, and call the ascetic Twenty-Chief here."
That bhikkhu said:
"Regards yes."
Then got up from his seat, bowed down to the Buddha's feet, circumambulated three times, stepped out, and went to the venerable recluse Nirvana, saying:
"The World-Honored One called for me."
The venerable recluse Nirvana heard that monk speak, immediately went to the Buddha's place, bowed his head to the Buddha's feet, and sat to one side. The Buddha said:
"Sammon, have you just been living alone in a quiet place, meditating, thinking, 'If there are any disciples of the Blessed One who need to study the true law, I am the one who first class, yet the mind has not yet been liberated from the taints. My parents' house is extremely wealthy, with a lot of money, should I now give up my precepts, give up my morality, devote myself to giving, and practice meritorious deeds?'”
At that time, the venerable monk of the Twelve Immortals was ashamed, unable to help but bewildered, saying, "The Blessed One knows my thoughts well," then he folded his hands toward the Buddha and said:
"Indeed."
The Buddha said:
“Samon, now I ask you; Answer according to your understanding. What do you think, when you live at home, you are good at playing the harp, so the music is in harmony with the lyrics, the lyrics match the music; Is that so?”
The venerable Sa-Mon, the Second Thirteen, said:
"Venerable Sir, that's right."
The Blessed One asked again:
“What do you think, if the strings are too tight, will the harmonies sound good?”
The Venerable Twelve replied:
"Venerable sir, no!"
The Buddha asked again:
“What do you think, if the strings are too loose, will the harmonies sound good?”
The Venerable Twelve replied:
"Venerable Sir, no."
The Buddha asked again:
“What do you think, if the strings are just right, neither too tight, nor too loose, wouldn't the sound be pleasing?”
The Venerable Twelve replied:
"Venerable sir, lovely."
The Buddha said:
"In the same way, monk, too much effort will make the mind confused, but not diligent, the mind will be lazy. Therefore, you should distinguish when to observe which sign, do not let loose."
Then, after hearing the Buddha's teachings, the venerable recluse, after listening to the Buddha's teaching, well received and well remembered, got up from his seat, bowed to the Buddha's feet, circumambulated three times, and then withdrew. After receiving the example of the harp taught by the Buddha, he immediately lived alone in a remote place, his mind was not lethargic, and he practiced diligently. That venerable one, after living alone in a remote place, his mind not slacking, practicing diligently, immediately achieved the goal that a good man shaved off his hair and beard, put on a cassava robe, became faithful, left his family. family, living without family, studying the Way, only aspires to achieve the unsurpassed holy life, in this very life self-knowledge, self-realization, self-realization, achievement and abiding, knowing as it really is: 'The birth has ended, the holy life has been established, the work to be done has been completed, there is no more rebirth'. The Venerable Sa-Mon of the Twenty-Three-Years knows the dharma already, etc., until, attesting to the fruit of Arahantship.
At that time, after having attained the fruit of arahantship, the venerable monk of the Twelve Immortals thought: "Now is the time, should I go to the place where the Blessed One explains about the attainment of ultimate wisdom? Is it yours?” Then the venerable recluse Nirvana went to the Buddha, bowed his head, and sat down to one side and said:
"World-Honored One, if a bhikkhu attains nothingness first [03] , has eradicated the taints, the holy life has been established, what needs to be done has been done, the burden has been laid down, and friendship has been removed [04] , attaining good means by himself [05] , by right knowledge attaining liberation, he immediately rejoices in the six cases [06] : joy in celibacy, joy in detachment, joy in avoidance, joy in the end, joy in the end, and joy in the mind that does not move [07] .
"World-Honored One, or someone thinks: 'This sage, because of his faith and faith, delights in celibacy'. He shouldn't be like that. Only when lust, lust, and stupidity are eliminated, can we rejoice in celibacy.
"World-Honored One, or someone thinks: 'This sage, because he likes to be praised and wants to receive offerings, is happy in a faraway place'. He shouldn't be like that. Only when we can eliminate lust, ill will, and stupidity, will we be happy in separation.
"World-Honored One, or someone thinks: 'This sage, because he is in the world, is happy where there is no avoidance'. He shouldn't be like that. Only when lust, lust, and foolishness are eradicated, can we rejoice in the place of non- avoidance, joy in the end of craving, joy in the place of grasping, and joy in the unmoving mind.
"World-Honored One, if a bhikkhu attains nothingness first, has put an end to the taints, the holy life is established, what needs to be done has been done, the burden has been laid down, affiliation has been released, and goodness has been attained by himself. That is, by right knowledge he attains liberation, and immediately he is happy in these six cases.
"World-Honored One, if there is a bhikkhu who is not satisfied with his studies, but wishes to attain the attainment of unsurpassed and secure Nirvana, then at that time he has only completed the study of the roots and the precepts, but after that it will end. With the exception of the cankers, the attainment of the non-cankers, the liberation of the mind, the liberation of wisdom, in this very life self-knowledge, self-realization, self-realization, accomplishment, and abiding, knowing as it really is: 'Birth has ceased. , the holy life has been established, the work to be done is done, there is no more rebirth'. At that time, he had achieved no learning roots and no precepts.
"World-Honored One, for example, a young pupil, at that time, had only attained the minor faculties and the minor precepts, but later had fully learned the faculties. Thus, that pupil at that time had completed the study of roots and learned the precepts. In the same way, World Honored One, if there is a bhikkhu who is not satisfied with his studies but wishes to attain the supreme and secure Nirvana, then at that time he has only completed the study of the roots and the precepts, but later will cessation of the cankers, the attainment of no-flowing, liberated mind, liberated wisdom, in this very life self-knowledge, self-realization, self-realization, accomplishment, and abiding, knowing as it really is: 'Birth has already been born. ends, the holy life has been established, the work to be done is done, there is no more rebirth'. At that time, he had achieved no learning roots and no precepts.
"If he has a form cognizable by the eye, when that form comes to the eye, it will not cause the mind to be liberated, this liberated wisdom must be lost, the mind is at rest, well subdued, guarded. , memorizing and contemplating the rise and fall of the Dharma. If a sound is cognised by the ear, smell is cognised by the nose, taste is cognized by the tongue, contact is cognized by the body, dharmas are cognized by the mind, when dhammas come to the mind it does not cause the mind to liberated, this liberating wisdom must be lost, inner peace, well controlled, guarded, remembered, and contemplative of the rising and falling of the Dharma.
“Venerable sir, for example, not far from the village, there is a large rock formation, which is not broken, not chipped, not weak, solid, not empty, is a unified whole. If there is wind or heavy rain coming from the East, it cannot be moved or moved; Nor is the east wind moving to the south. If there is wind or heavy rain coming from the South, it cannot be moved or moved; nor does the south wind move to the west. If there is wind or heavy rain coming from the West, it cannot be moved or moved; nor does the west wind move to the south. If there is wind or heavy rain coming from the North, it cannot be moved or moved; Nor is the north wind moving to the directions.
"In the same way, World-Honored One, if he had a form cognizable by the eye, when that form came to the eye, he would not thus cause the mind to be liberated, this liberating wisdom would be lost, and the mind would be at rest. , skillfully tame, guard, memorize and meditate on the rising and falling of the Dharma. If there is a sound cognizable by the ear, smell cognizable by the nose, taste cognizable by the tongue, tactile cognizable by the body, dhamma cognizable by the mind. When that dharma comes to mind, it will not cause the mind to be liberated, this liberated wisdom will be lost, the heart will be at rest, well controlled, guarded, remembered, and contemplative of the dharma rising and falling.”
At that time, the venerable monk, the Venerable Thirteen, immediately said the chant:
Fun place without sex [08] ,
Then the mind is far away;
Joy inescapable [09] ,
Delighted to end.
Fun in the end,
Mind does not move,
Know the truth,
The mind is liberated.
The mind is liberated,
Static ceiling only [10] ,
Job done [11] ,
Don't have to do it anymore.
Like mountains,
The wind could not shake.
Color, sound, flavor, taste,
Body and touch are the same;
Dharma love, non-love [12] ,
Do not disturb.
The venerable Sa-Mon, after presenting himself in front of the Buddha about the attainment of the ultimate wisdom, got up from his seat, bowed to the Buddha's feet, circumambulated three times, and then withdrew.<
At that time, not long after the venerable Venerable Twenty-two had gone out, the Blessed One said to the bhikkhus:
“Good men, you should come before Me to expound on such attainment of ultimate wisdom. Let's be like a monk of the Twenty-Threefold, going before me to present the attainment of the ultimate wisdom without praising himself, without looking down on people, saying good things, manifesting the dharma according to the circumstances; Don't be like a fool bound by arrogance, come before Me to present the attainment of ultimate wisdom. That person has no gain, only trouble. The Venerable Twenty-six went before me to present the attainment of the ultimate wisdom without praising himself, without disdain, saying good things, and manifesting the Dharma according to the circumstances."
Buddha said so. The Bhikkhu-stilts, after listening to the Buddha's lecture, joyfully served.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=BUDDHIST DHARMA WHEEL GOLDEN MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.13/12/2021.
