Buddha Speaks Suttas
Shakyamuni Buddha first converted the Dharma wheel to save Kieu Tran-like, until the last time when he converted Tuba-dala, everyone who should be saved Tathagata has already been saved. At the time of entering Nirvana, in the dead of night, without a sound, between two Sala trees, the Buddha gave a brief summary of the Dharma for his disciples.
Bhikkhus, after I have passed away, you should respect the Prajnaparamita, the precept for special liberation, just as the dark meets the light, the poor gain treasure. You should know that precepts are the great teachers; Even if we are still in this world, we are not different from this world.
People who keep the pure precepts are not allowed to do business or buy real estate, house servants, slaves, and raise livestock. Cultivation, money and treasures must be avoided like the pit of fire. Do not cut trees, plow the land, prepare medicines, see good and bad fortune-telling, see how to calculate benefits, see the calendar to choose a good day.... Such actions should not be violated.
Must know how to moderate the body, eat and drink at the right time, live pure frugality. Do not participate in worldly affairs, act as messengers of communication, use magic spells to make elixir, associate with nobles, be close and respectful, and arrogantly despise people. These worldly things should not be violated.
So righteous mind, righteous thoughts seek liberation. Do not hide mistakes, show strange lies. For the four offerings know enough to know the limit; Even if you have a lot to offer, you should share it with others without hoarding it.
Above is a summary of the state of precepts. Precepts for emancipation of the root, so the precepts are called Bala-de-mok-sa, that is, according to liberation. By taking refuge in this precept, meditations and wisdom for the cessation of suffering are born. Therefore, bhikkhus must keep the pure precepts, not break any deficiencies. Those who keep the pure precepts will have good Dharma. If precepts are not pure, good merit will not arise. Therefore, it is important to know that precepts are the first place where merit and virtue are stable.
Monks, having abided in the pure precepts, one must control the five senses, not allowing these five faculties to indulge in the five desires, just as a man who is herding an ox with a whip is always on guard, so as not to offend the grain. If you let go of the five senses, you will not only commit the five desires, but also become extremely free and uncontrollable. Just like a fierce horse that does not use the reins to control it, will drag the horse's guide and fall into a deep pit.
Being harmed by a bandit only suffers for one lifetime, a five-rooted enemy causes disaster, suffering for hundreds of thousands of lives! The five root causes of real disaster are very serious, you have to be careful!
Therefore, a wise person controls his five senses and does not let go of them. Please protect the five apartments like always guarding the enemy, not a bit slack. If we let go of the five senses, it won't take long for the senses to perish!
Mind owns the five senses. So you have to tame your mind skillfully. The real mind is more terrifying than poisonous snakes, wild beasts or enemies, or a great fire spreading, not enough examples! Like a person holding a honeypot walks carelessly, only looking at the honeypot does not see the deep pit. Like a mad elephant without a hook, apes and monkeys encounter the forest, rush to run and climb, the mind is really hard to restrain! Therefore, you must quickly control this mind not to let it loose. If we let go of this mind, we will lose our good deeds; control the mind in one place, nothing is not done! Therefore, the Bhikkhu-stilts should always be diligent, conquering his mind.
Bhikkhus, when receiving food and drink, it must be used as medicine, with regard to good and bad food, neither covetous nor criticized, only used to feed the body, to eliminate hunger and thirst. Like a bee taking nectar from a flower, it only takes away the sweetness without harming the fragrance. Likewise, bhikkhus receive offerings from people to quench hunger and thirst, so they do not ask for much, thus destroying people's minds and hearts. For example, a wise person knows how to estimate the strength of a buffalo, so that he does not overdo it, causing the buffalo to become exhausted.
Monks, during the day, you should be diligent in practicing good dharmas, not to miss the class. At the beginning of the night and at the end of the night there is no scrap. In the middle of the night, you should chant sutras to end defilements. Don't let your life pass in vain for no good reason. You must remember that the fire of impermanence always burns the world to seek self-liberation soon, don't be greedy for sleep. The enemy of afflictions lurking is worse than the unjust family taking the opportunity to kill themselves, why do you sleep peacefully, not knowing self-awareness? The venomous snake of affliction sleeps in your mind like a black venomous snake sleeping in a room! You must quickly pull out the precept hook! Sleeping snakes have come out to sleep peacefully. A sleeping snake that hasn't come out yet but is worried about sleeping, who is not ashamed!
Shame is the most beautiful garment that dignifies the body. Shame is the iron hook that conquers the illegal. Must have shame, never temporarily forget. If we leave the shameful mind, we will lose all our virtues. Those who have a shameful mind will have good dharmas; People who have no shame are no different from animals!
Monks, if someone cuts your body into pieces, you should restrain your mind, not letting anger arise. Also keep your mouth shut, don't utter evil words. If anger arises, he himself will obstruct the Way and lose his capital of merit. The merit of patience is greater than the virtue of keeping the precepts and asceticism! Such a patient person can be called a great man of strength. Those who cannot joyfully endure poisons and curses like drinking orange juice cannot be called intellectuals. Why is that so? The harm of anger destroys all good dharmas, damages a good reputation, and no one likes to meet in this life and the next. You should know that anger is more harmful than fire, so you should always guard against it. The evil enemy that steals merit is nothing more than anger.
People in white in the world still enjoy sensual pleasures, not practitioners of the Way, cannot control the mind, so if they are angry, they can also sympathize. And people who have left home to practice the path of liberation are those who live without desire and hold anger, which is impossible. It is not suitable for the sky to clear, the clouds to clear, the climate to be cool, but thunder and lightning to rise, and the grass to be on fire.
O monks, rub yourself on the head! They removed the beauty of the jewelry, put on the discolored robe, held the bowl in both hands, and lived by begging for food. If you see yourself like this, but you start to get arrogant, you should quickly stop it. Raising pride is something people in white clothes should not have, let alone those who have left home to enter the Way for liberation and humble themselves to beg for food?
O monks, the flattery mind is contrary to the Way! So keep your mind straight and honest. Should know the flattery mind just because of deceiving people. Those who have entered the Tao should not be so flattering. Therefore, you must correct your mind, and make your mind right as the root of your spiritual practice.
Monks, one should know that a person has many desires, seeks much gain, and suffers greatly. People who have no desire for nothing, because they have no desire, have no evil. If you don't want to get only that much, you should also practice, let alone if you want less, you can generate many other merits.
People with little desire will not flatter people; nor be drawn to the five senses by the senses. People who do not want to be at peace have nothing to fear, and when they encounter things, they are free and often find themselves full. Those who have little desire to attain Nirvana. This is called little want.
Monks, if you want to be free from suffering, you should contemplate and know enough. To know enough is to be rich and happy and to be a safe place. Those who know enough, although lying on the earth, are still happy; those who do not know enough, even in heaven, are not satisfied. Those who do not know enough are rich but are poor, those who know enough but are poor are extremely rich. People who don't know enough are pulled by the five desires, those who know enough see that, feel really pitiful. This is called knowing enough.
Monks, if you want to seek peace and joy, you must leave noise and practice alone. People who know how to live alone are respected by Emperor Shakyamuni, and the gods are all respectful. So you have to leave your congregation, or the assembly of others, live alone in a secluded place, unharmed to meditate, and end the root of suffering. If you like crowded places, you will suffer. For example, a large tree and birds that gather in winter will be damaged. People who are busy being entangled in worldly affairs will forever be immersed in the sea of sufferings of birth and death, like an old elephant stuck in a bog, unable to get out by themselves. This is called faraway.
Hey, monks, if you're diligent, there's nothing difficult about it; like a small stream of water flowing forever and through the rock. Therefore, you must diligently practice. A lazy meditator's mind will abandon the practice. Like a stick for fire, if the tree is not hot yet but hastily stopped, there can be no fire. This is called diligence.
Bhikkhus, asking for good knowledge and asking for help is not equal to being mindful of always getting money. Who does not forget mindfulness, the enemy does not enter. Therefore, you must always meditate on the mind. Whoever loses mindfulness loses merit! If the power of mindfulness is strong, even if you enter the five desires, you will not be afraid of harm. Like an armored warrior who is not afraid to go to war. This is always mindfulness.
Monks, sesshin will be concentrated. Concentration knows the birth and death of the world. Therefore, you must diligently practice meditation. If one has attained concentration, the mind is no longer scattered. Just as a farmer who treasures water well builds embankments and embankments, so too, because of preserving wisdom, he should practice meditation well, not letting his wisdom be lost. This is called meditation.
Bhikkhus, a person who has wisdom will not have greed, constantly examines himself, does not let error, can be liberated in my teaching. If you don't have wisdom, you're not a Taoist, you're not a white robe, you don't know what to call it! Wisdom is a sure boat to help cross the sea of birth and death, wisdom is a great lamp to destroy the darkness of ignorance, wisdom is the magic medicine that cures all diseases, wisdom is a sharp hammer that cuts down the tree of affliction. So you must listen, think well, and practice the Dharma, so that your wisdom will grow, and you will benefit greatly on the path to liberation. Having enlightened wisdom, even without a celestial eye, is still a person who sees very clearly and clearly. This is called wisdom.
Bhikkhus, the mind causes confusion, even though a monk is still unable to escape. Therefore, bhikkhus must let go of their mind-disturbing comments. If you want to enjoy the peace and joy of passing away, you have to skillfully eliminate the calamities of opinion. This is nonsensical.
Bhikkhus, practice single-mindedly the virtues and dharmas, and avoid indolence, like avoiding enemies. How to practice, how to benefit, has all been told by the Blessed One out of compassion for sentient beings. What remains is for you to diligently practice what I teach. Whether you're in the mountains, on the banks of a deserted pond, or sitting under a tree, in a deserted place, in a quiet room..., you must always remember the Dharma you've received, don't let it be forgotten. Always encourage yourself, always diligently practice, not to die in vain, then regret later. I am like a physician who knows the disease and knows the medicine, whether to take it or not is up to the patient, not the physician's fault! I am like a guide, leading people to a good path; listen but refuse to go, not the fault of the conductor!
As for the Four Noble Truths: suffering, practice, cessation, and the Way, if you have any doubts, ask them quickly, don't keep them in your heart, and don't ask for a solution.
Then the Blessed One repeated three times, but no one asked. Why is that so? Because no one doubts. Ananda at that time understood their hearts, so he said to the Buddha: "Dear World Honored One, the moon may be hot and the sun may be cold, but are these four noble truths spoken by the Buddha? how can it be different. The Buddha said that the truth of suffering is suffering and cannot be made happy; The true truth is the cause of suffering, there is no other cause. To say that the end of suffering is the end of the cause of suffering. Because the cause of suffering has ceased, the result of suffering also ceases. The Noble Truth is the way to end this truth of suffering. This is the true path, there is no other way. Venerable sir, these bhikkhus have no doubt about the four noble truths."
In the assembly at that time, those who had not yet attained Sainthood and saw the Buddha's extinction were moved and saddened. Those who have just penetrated into the teachings of the Buddha's teachings and have listened to the Buddha's teachings will all be saved. Just as at night seeing a light flash across the sky, so too is seeing the Tao. And those who have finished cultivation and have overcome the sea of suffering, only think like this: "The Buddha's extinction, why is it so quick!"
Although Ananda said to the Blessed One that everyone clearly understood the meaning of the Four Noble Truths, the Blessed One, with great compassion, wanted everyone to have a firm mind, so he continued to instruct: Bhikkhus, do not hold your heart to sorrow. Even if we live for a long time up to one life, we will eventually pass away. Meeting without dissolving is impossible. The Tathagata has done enough dharmas for self-benefit and others. If we stay longer in this world, there is no benefit. Those who can be saved, whether in heaven or in the human realm, the Tathagata has all been saved; Those who have not been saved, the Tathagata all planted a predestined condition to be saved later. From now to the future, if my disciples practice the Dharma one by one, the Tathagata's dharmakaya will be eternally eternal.
So you should know that the world is inherently impermanent, there must be a meeting and a dissolution, don't hold your heart to sadness. The world is like that, one must practice diligently and seek the path of liberation soon. Use bright wisdom to dispel the darkness of delusion!
Life is very fragile, nothing is certain. Today, we will pass away as if we were able to get rid of an evil disease. This body should be abandoned, the object of many crimes, pretending to be the body, forever immersed in the sea of birth, old age, sickness and death. Being able to let go of this body is like killing an enemy, why can't the wise give rise to joy?
Monks, one should always be single-minded, diligently seeking the path of liberation. All worldly dharmas, either moving or unmoving, are impermanent signs, nothing is safe. Please stop, say nothing more. The moment has come, the Tathagata is about to perish. This is the last commandment I leave behind.

---------------------------------------------------------
[1] This was originally a vow written by Zen master Nhien on Di mountain (怡山然禪師) edited in the book Trau Mon Canh Huan, The Great Tripitaka, vol. 48, page 1072. This vow had a profound influence. It is widespread in the East Asian Mahayana Buddhist tradition, and is incorporated into the class for morning and evening chanting in the meditation hall. This is not only thanks to the profound meaning of the poem but also thanks to the earnest, sometimes majestic voice ... through the short rhythm of sentences, definitely going straight to the heart of the person who recites and reads. Therefore, when translating into Vietnamese, the translator tries to keep the same rhythm and duality as the original Chinese characters, in order to preserve as much as possible the melody and symmetrical image in the work.
[2] The three vehicles of Dharma: the shravaka vehicle, the pratyekabuddha vehicle, and the bodhisattva vehicle.
[3] Ten hindrances: Ten types of mentality bind us in the cycle of birth and death. I. rest) 7. gesture (disturbed mind) 8. lethargy (disturbed mind) 9. indignation (angry) 10. phu (hiding one's mistakes).
[4] Ten history: ten types of psychology that cause us to create suffering karma. .
[5] Six senses: eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind.
[6] Six senses: form, sound, scent, taste, touch, and dharma.
[7] Three karmas: Body, mouth, and mind.
[8] Eight tribulations: Eight obstacles make it difficult for sentient beings to practice and study the Buddhadharma. 1. Hell, 2. Preta, 3. Animals, 4. Heaven of Long Life, 5. Borderlands, where there is no Buddha Dharma, 6. Worldly wisdom, good at arguing the world but don't believe in Dharma. so, 7. Blind, deaf, dumb, 8. Born before or after Buddha.
[9] Four conditions: Four conditions for generating Bodhi mind. According to the Bodhisattva Earth Tribute Sutra that is: 1. Seeing the divine power of the Buddhas, the bodhisattvas should develop the Bodhi mind. 2. Heard about the merits of the Bodhisattva should generate Bodhi mind. 3. Seeing the end of the world, the main Dharma decline should generate Bodhi mind. 4. Because of compassion for sentient beings suffering should generate Bodhi mind.
[10] The six degrees are the six perfections: generosity, morality, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom.
[11] Three periods: Three a period increase period. A increment means infinity.
