Like this I hear.
At one time the Blessed One was staying at Savatthi (Sāvatthi), Jetavana (Kydala), at his monastery Anathapindika (Level of Solitude). There, the World-Honored One called the monks: "Monks." -- "White World Honored One". -- "Monks, I will teach you the Holy Right Concentration along with the dependent conditions and the auxiliaries. Listen carefully and reflect carefully, I will explain". -- "Yes, venerable sir." Those bhikkhus obeyed the Blessed One. The Blessed One said as follows:
-- What, bhikkhus, is the Noble Truth of Concentration with its dependent conditions and its supporting factors? It is right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, and right mindfulness. Any single mind (ekaggata) supported by these seven factors, bhikkhus, is thus called the Noble Right Concentration with its access-conditions and supporting factors.
(Right view)
Here, bhikkhus, right view comes first. And how, monks, is right view leading? Wisdom of wrong view is wrong view, wisdom of right view is right view. Such is his right view.
And what, monks, is wrong view? There is no almsgiving, no offerings, no sacrifices, no retribution for good and bad karma, no life, no other life, no mother, no father, no all kinds of rebirth; In the world, there are no contemplatives, brahmins, righteous direction, right conduct, after with superior wisdom, self-recognition and re-declaration. Thus, monks, is wrong view.
And what, bhikkhus, is right view? Right view, bhikkhus, I say there are two kinds. The Male-stilts, there is a type of right view that is illegal, belonging to the blessing, leading to the birth y (upadhivepakka); There is right view, bhikkhus, of the Noble One, of the unscrupulous, of the supramundane, of the path factor (magganga).
And what, bhikkhus, is the right view that is corrupting, of meritorious retribution, leading to the fruit of a medical birth? There is almsgiving, there is offerings, there are sacrifices, there is retribution for good and bad karma, there is this life, there is another life, there is a mother, there is a father, there are all kinds of rebirths; In the world there are ascetics, brahmins, righteous direction, right conduct, after with superior wisdom, they themselves have attained this life and that in another life, they have declared themselves up. Thus, bhikkhus, is the right view of righteous existence, belonging to meritorious retribution, leading to the fruit of birth.
And what, bhikkhus, is the right view of the Noble One, the unscrupulous, the supramundane, the path factor? Whatever, bhikkhus, belongs to wisdom, wisdom faculty, wisdom power, right understanding, right view, and path factor of a cultivator of the Noble Path, mature in the Noble Path, possessing no impurity of mind, having Sacred heart. Such a right view, bhikkhus, belongs to the noble, unstained, supramundane, belonging to the path factor.
Who diligently eliminates wrong views, achieves right views; such is his right effort. Those who are mindful to eliminate wrong views, attain and abide in right views; Such is his mindfulness. Thus, these three dharmas run after and around right view, that is, right view, right effort, and right mindfulness.
(Right thinking)
Here, bhikkhus, right view comes first. And how, monks, is right view leading? The wisdom of wrong thinking is wrong thinking, the wisdom of right thinking is right thinking, so this is their right view.
And what, monks, is wrong thinking? Thoughts of sensuality, thoughts of anger, thoughts of harm, monks, this is wrong thinking.
And what, monks, is right thought? Right thinking, the Male-stilts, I say there are two types: there is the right kind of thinking, this Male-stilts, being smuggled, belonging to the blessing, leading to the birth y; There is this kind of right thought, monks, who belong to the unscrupulous saint, the supramundane, the path factor.
And what, bhikkhus, is the right thought that has an outflow, of meritorious retribution, that leads to the fruit of a medical birth? Separation of sexual thought, non-hatred thinking, non-harmful thinking, thus, the Male-stilts are right thinking, possessing contraband, belonging to meritorious retribution, leading to the fruit of birth y.
And what, bhikkhus, is right thought, of the Noble One, of the unscrupulous, of the supramundane, of the path factor? All these things, bhikkhus, by contemplation, seeking, and thinking, a single act of speech is the result of the full attention and concentration of a cultivator of the Noble Path, mature in the Noble Path, possessing no impurity of mind, possessing the Noble Truth. heart; Right thinking thus, bhikkhus, belongs to the noble, unstained, supramundane, belongs to the path factor.
Those who diligently cut off evil thinking, achieve right thinking, this is his right effort. Those who are mindful to cut off evil thoughts, attain mindfulness, and abide in right thoughts, this is his mindfulness. Thus, these three dharmas run after and around right thinking, that is, right view, right effort, and right mindfulness.
(Right Speech)
Here, bhikkhus, right view comes first. And how, bhikkhus, does right view come first? The wisdom of the wrong language is the wrong language, the wisdom of the right language is the right language; such is his right view.
And what, monks, is wrong speech? Echoes, double-tongued, evil speech, frivolous talk; Thus, monks, is wrong speech.
And what, bhikkhus, is right speech? Right speech, the Male-stilts, I say there are two types: there are types of right speech, this Male-stilts, organic, belonging to blessings, leading to birth y; There is right speech, bhikkhus, of the noble, unscrupulous, supramundane, of the path factor.
And what, bhikkhus, is the right speech that is corrupt, of meritorious retribution, that leads to the fruit of a robe? Far away from hope, far away from double-tongued, far away from evil, far away from frivolous language; Thus, bhikkhus, is the right speech to be corrupted by meritorious retribution, leading to the fruit of birth y.
And what, bhikkhus, is right speech belonging to the noble, unstained, supramundane, and path factors? What, bhikkhus, belongs to renunciation, abandonment, rejection, renunciation of the four evil speeches, for a person who practices the Noble Path, is well-versed in the Noble Path, has no impure mind, has a sage. heart; Thus, bhikkhus, is the right speech of the noble, unstained, supramundane, of the path factor.
Who diligently cut off evil speech, achieve right speech; such is his right effort. Those who are mindful to eliminate evil speech, attain mindfulness and abide in right speech; Such is his mindfulness. Thus, these three dharmas run after and around right speech, that is, right view, right effort, and right mindfulness.
(Leadership)
Here, bhikkhus, right view comes first. And how, monks, is right view leading? Knowledge of wrong karma is evil, wisdom of right action is right business; such is his right view.
And what, monks, is wrong karma? Killing living beings, taking what is not given, wrong conduct in the sex; Thus, monks, is wrong karma.
And what, bhikkhus, is right action? Right career, the Male-stilts, I say there are two types: There is a type of right career, this Male-stilts, possessing illegality, belonging to the blessing, leading to birth y; There is right action, bhikkhus, of the noble, unscrupulous, supramundane, of the path factor.
And what, bhikkhus, is the right action that belongs to the defilement of good fortune, which leads to the fruit of birth medicine? Far away from killing life, away from taking what's not given, away from wrong conduct in the sexes; Thus, bhikkhus, is the right action, belonging to the defilement of meritorious retribution, leading to the fruit of birth.
And what, bhikkhus, is the right action of the noble, the unstained, the supramundane, of the path? What, bhikkhus, belongs to renunciation, abandonment, renunciation, and separation from the three bodies of evil deeds for one who practices the Noble Path, is mature in the Noble Path, has a mind of no impurity, has a noble mind. ; Thus, bhikkhus, is the right action of the noble, unstained, supramundane, of the path factor.
Who diligently cut off evil karma, achieve the right career; such is his right effort. Those who are mindful of eliminating evil karma, are mindful of achieving and staying righteous karma; Such is his mindfulness. Thus, these three dharmas run after and around right karma, that is, right view, right effort, and right mindfulness.
(Right Livelihood)
Here, bhikkhus, right view comes first. And how, monks, is right view leading? The wisdom of the wrong life is the wrong life, the wisdom of the right life is the right life; such is his right view.
And what, monks, is wrong livelihood? Deceive, say deceitful words, show signs, deceit, take advantage for profit; Thus, monks, is wrong life.
And how, monks, is right livelihood? Right Livelihood, the Male-stilts, I say there are two types: there is the right kind of life, this Male-stilts, organic stilts, belonging to blessings, leading to birth y; There is a kind of right livelihood, bhikkhus, of the Noble One, of the unscrupulous, of the supramundane, of the path factor.
And how, bhikkhus, is the right livelihood of stagnation, of meritorious retribution, leading to the fruit of birth medicine? Here, the Male-stilts, the noble disciple abandoned the wrong life, living with the right livelihood; Thus, bhikkhus, the right livelihood is illicit, belonging to meritorious retribution, leading to the fruit of birth y.
And what, bhikkhus, is the right livelihood of the noble, the unscrupulous, the supramundane, the path factor? What, bhikkhus, belongs to renunciation, abandonment, rejection, renunciation of wrong life for a practitioner of the Noble Path, adept in the Noble Path. There is no contraband mind, there is a sage and holy mind; Thus, bhikkhus, is the right livelihood of the noble, unscrupulous, supramundane, of the path factor.
Those who diligently cut off evil lives, achieve righteous lives; such is his right effort. One who is mindful to cut off evil lives, attain mindfulness and abide in right livelihood, this is his mindfulness. Thus, these three dharmas run after and around right livelihood, that is, right view, right effort, and right mindfulness.
(Dharma Law Forty)
Here, bhikkhus, right view takes the lead. And how, bhikkhus, is right view leading? Right thought, bhikkhus, is born of right view. Right speech is generated by right thought. Right action due to right speech is aroused. Right livelihood due to right action is aroused. Right effort due to right livelihood is aroused. Right mindfulness due to right effort is aroused. Right concentration due to mindfulness is aroused. Right knowledge by right concentration is aroused. Right liberated by right knowledge is arisen. Thus, bhikkhus, the path of a learned person consists of eight factors, and the path of an arahant consists of ten factors.
Here, bhikkhus, right view comes first. And how, monks, is right view leading? Wrong view, bhikkhus, is brought to an end by right view. And evil and unwholesome dhammas are dependent on wrong view, and they are destroyed in the one who has right view. And kusala dhammas are dependently arisen by right view, they are cultivated and become perfect.
Wrong thinking, bhikkhus, is destroyed by right thought, and evil and unwholesome dhammas are conditioned by wrong thinking. These dhammas are destroyed in a person of right thinking. And kusala dhammas are dependently arisen by right thinking, they are developed and become perfect.
Wrong speech, bhikkhus, is annihilated by right speech, and evil and unwholesome dharmas are conditioned by wrong speech, and those dharmas are destroyed in a person with right speech. And kusala dhammas are conditioned by right speech, they are cultivated and become perfect.
Evil kamma, bhikkhus, is destroyed by right kamma, and evil and unwholesome dhammas are conditioned by wrong kamma, they are destroyed in a man of right kamma. And kusala dhammas are conditioned by right kamma, they are cultivated and become perfect.
Wrong livelihood, bhikkhus, is brought to an end by right livelihood. And evil and unwholesome dharmas are conditioned by wrong livelihood, and those dharmas are destroyed in a person with right livelihood. And kusala dhammas are conditioned by right livelihood, they are cultivated and become perfect.
Evil effort, monks, is brought to an end by right effort. And evil and unwholesome dharmas are conditioned by wrong effort, and they are destroyed in a person with right effort. And the kusala dhammas that arise through right effort are cultivated and become perfect.
Wrong thoughts, bhikkhus, are brought to an end by mindfulness. And evil and unwholesome dharmas are dependently arisen by wrong mindfulness, and those dharmas are destroyed in the person who is mindful. And kusala dhammas that are mindful of dependent origination are cultivated and become perfect.
Wrong concentration, bhikkhus, is destroyed by right concentration. And evil and unwholesome dharmas are dependently arisen by wrong concentration, and they are destroyed in a person with right concentration. And kusala dhammas are dependently arisen by right concentration, they are cultivated and become perfect.
Wrong knowledge, bhikkhus, is destroyed by right knowledge. And evil and unwholesome dharmas are dependently arisen by wrong knowledge, and they are destroyed in a person with right knowledge. And kusala dhammas are dependently arisen by right knowledge, they are developed and become perfect.
Evil liberation, bhikkhus, is destroyed by right liberation. And evil and unwholesome dharmas are liberated from dependent origination by evil, and those dharmas are destroyed in a person with right liberation. And kusala dhammas are properly liberated from dependent origination, they are developed and become perfect.
Thus, bhikkhus, there are twenty wholesome parts and twenty unwholesome parts. The Great Dharma Gate of Forty has been transported without being stopped by a recluse, brahmin, god, ma, brahma or anyone else in the world.
If there are any recluses or brahmins, bhikkhus, thinking that this great teaching of forty is worthy of criticism and slander. speak up to criticize that person. If the venerable one criticizes the right view, when the recluse had wrong view, those venerable ones are worthy of offerings, the venerable ones are worthy of praise. If the venerable one criticizes right thinking, in the time when the recluses and brahmins had wrong thoughts, those venerable ones are worthy of offerings, and those venerable ones are worthy of praise. If the Venerable criticizes right speech... right action... right livelihood... right effort... right mindfulness... right concentration... right wisdom... At the time when the recluses and brahmins had evil emancipation, those venerable ones were worthy of offerings, those venerable ones were worthy of praise.
Monks, even the people of Ukkala and the people of Vassa, the people of Bhanna, according to the doctrine of no-cause, according to the non-action, according to the nihilism, they did not think that the great method of Forty was worthy of respect. quoted, deserving of defamation. Why? For fear of rebuke, anger, and attack.
