Channa Precepts (Channovada sutta).VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.
Like this I hear.
At one time, the Blessed One was in Rajagaha, Veluvana, in the care of squirrels (Kalandakanivapa).
At that time, Venerable Sariputta (Sariputra), Venerable Mahacunda (Great Chu-na) and Venerable Channa (Xidan) lived together at Gijjhakuta (Spiritual Vulture). At that time, Venerable Channa was sick, suffering, seriously ill. Then the Venerable Sariputta, in the evening arose from his solitude, went to the Venerable Mahacunda and, on arrival, said to the Venerable Mahacunda:
— Let's go, Friend Cunda, let's go to Venerable Channa to inquire about the condition.
— Yes, sage.
Venerable Mahacunda obeyed Venerable Sariputta. Then Venerable Sariputta and Venerable Mahacunda went to Venerable Channa; after arriving, speak to the venerable Channa with greetings and greetings; After saying hello and greeting friends, he sat down to one side. Sitting down to one side, Venerable Sariputta said to Venerable Channa:
— O sage Channa, may you be patient! Hope the Sage can endure! May suffering be reduced without an increase, and a reduction markedly, without an increase!
— Venerable Sariputta, I cannot endure, I cannot endure. My anguish increased with no reduction, and markedly increased, with no reduction. Venerable Sariputta, I will bring the knife (for me). I no longer want to live.
— Venerable Channa, do not bring the knife! Venerable Channa, keep on living! We want Venerable Channa to continue living. If Venerable Channa does not have good food, I will go and find good food for Venerable Channa. If Venerable Channa does not have auspicious medicines, I will look for good medicines for Venerable Channa. If Venerable Channa does not have a suitable attendant, I will serve Venerable Channa. Venerable Channa don't bring the knife! Venerable Channa keep on living! We want Venerable Channa to continue living.
— It is not, sage Sariputta, that I do not have good food, nor am I without good medicines. It's not like I don't have a proper attendant. Dear friend Sariputta, for a long time I have served the Guru, making (the Guru) pleasing, not displeasing. It is fitting, sage Sariputta, for a disciple to serve the guru, to please (the guru), not to displease him. Bhikkhu-stilts Channa brought the knife no offense. Venerable Sariputta, keep it like this!
— We would like to ask Venerable Channa about a special matter, if Venerable Channa will allow us to ask questions.
— Ask, sage Sariputta; After listening, I will know (how to say).
— Friend Channa, do you regard the eye, eye consciousness, and eye-perceived phenomena as: "This is mine, this is me, this is my self? "Sage Channa, Sage can see the ear, ear consciousness... Sage Channa, Sage can see nose, ratio... Sage Channa, Sage see tongue, tongue consciousness... Sage Channa, Sage see body, body-consciousness... sage Channa, do you consider mind, consciousness and dharmas to be perceived by the mind as: "This is mine, this is me, this is not my self"?
— Friend Sariputta, I consider the eye, the eye-consciousness, and the things perceived by the eye as: "This is not mine, this is not me, this is not my self." Sage Sariputta, I see the ear, the ear consciousness.. sage Sariputta, I see the nose, the tongue... sage Sariputta, I look at the tongue, the tongue... consider mind, consciousness, and mental phenomena as: "This is not mine, this is not me, this is not my self".
- What, sage Channa, what have you seen, what have you realized in the eye, in the eye-consciousness, in the dharmas cognized by the eye that the sage sees with the eye, the eye-consciousness and the dharmas cognised by the eye are: This is not mine, this is not me, this is not my self?" Sage Channa, what did the Sage see, what did the sage see in the ear, in the ear-consciousness... in the nose, in the proportions... in the tongue, in the tongue-consciousness... in the body, in the body-consciousness... in the mind, in the consciousness and of the mental phenomena that the sage considers mind, consciousness, and mind-perceived phenomena as: "This is not mine, this is not me, this is not my self"?
— Friend Sariputta, it is precisely because I see cessation (nirodha), perceive cessation in the eye, in the eye-consciousness, and in the dharmas cognizable by the eye, that I see the eye, the eye-consciousness, and the cognizable-eye-consciousness. is: "This is not mine, this is not me, this is not my self". Dear sage Sariputta, it is because I see the cessation, witness the cessation in the ear, in the ear consciousness... in the nose, in the tongue consciousness... in the tongue, in the tongue consciousness... in the body, in the body consciousness... in the mind, in the consciousness and in mind-perceived dhammas I consider mind, consciousness, and mind-perceived dhammas as: 'This is not mine, this is not me, this is not my self'.
When he heard that, Venerable Mahacunda said to Venerable Channa:
—Therefore, friend Channa, this teaching of the Blessed One must be constantly heeded: "He who has attachments is wavering. Whoever is not attached is not wavering. There is no oscillation, there is peace; there is contempt for a time without hope (nati); there is no hope, no past, no future; no past, no time, no birth and death; There is no birth and death, there is no this life, there is no next life, there is no time between two lives. Such is the cessation of suffering."
Then Venerable Sariputta and Venerable Mahacunda, after giving the precepts to Venerable Channa, got up from their seats and left. Then Venerable Channa, not long after Venerable Sariputta and Venerable Mahacunda had gone, brought the knife (for himself). Then the venerable Sariputta went to the Blessed One and, having bowed down to the Blessed One, sat down to one side. Sitting down to one side, Venerable Sariputta said to the Blessed One:
— Venerable Sir, Venerable Channa brought the knife (for me), what is the place of birth of that Venerable? What is future life?
— Sariputta, did the bhikkhu Channa declare innocence in your presence?
— Venerable Sir, there is a village of the Vajji family named Pubbajira. There, there are friendly families, families that support Venerable Channa, families that need to be visited.
— There are, Sariputta, those families that are friendly families, families that support the bhikkhu-stilt Channa, families that need to be visited. So far, Sariputta, I have not said that the monk Channa has committed a crime. O Sariputta, whoever abandons this body and clings to another, I say that he has committed a sin. Male-stilts Channa has no such (clinging). Male-stilts Channa brought the knife (for himself), no offense.
Thus the Blessed One preached. Venerable Sariputta happily accepted the Blessed One's words.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).WORLD VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST ORDER=BUDDHIST DHARMA WHEEL GOLDEN MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.3/12/2021.
