Sudinna, the father of the Seed.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.
Eight years ago, on the 12th summer, there was Mr. Sudinna Kalandaputta, the only child of a large rich family in Kalanda village near Vesàlì, to the Mahavana monastery (Dai Lam) to listen to the Buddha's sermon. After hearing that he was enlightened, feeling bored with mundane life, asked the Buddha for permission to leave home. Buddha told him that he was the only son in the family, so he had to ask his parents' permission first. He went home to ask his parents' permission, but his parents said: -Dear Sudinna, you are my parents' only son. Parents love, cherish and pamper their children. From childhood until now, I have been brought up in happiness, well cared for, not knowing anything about suffering. If the child dies, the parents have to bear it, but the parents do not have the heart to let the child go home, live far away from home, have no home, beg for food, while this large family has no successor. track will be lost to someone else. No, my parents love me very much, you should understand for me, my parents can't bear to let me go home. Mr. Sudinna lay on the ground, fasting for four or five days straight. His friends couldn't advise him no matter what, so he had to advise his parents to let him leave home and hope that he would change his mind when he couldn't bear it, or at least could see his face later. . His parents could not see their son lying on the ground not eating or drinking, his body emaciated, so they allowed him to leave home. Being allowed to leave home, he was very excited, believed in cultivating early momentum, with little education, living in the forest, going for alms in order from house to house. After a long time, the father learned that Venerable Sudinna was staying at Mahavana and immediately accompanied his wife to invite him home to make offerings, then the two of them conspired with the Venerable's ex-wife and begged the Venerable. Virtue should leave an heir to preserve the family property. At that time there was no clear precept on this, so the Venerable agreed. Then the wife became pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful son, whom his grandfather named Bijaka (Seed). The bhikshus who learned of this mocked Venerable Sudinna as the father of the Seed. When the Buddha heard that he had called Venerable Sudinna to severely rebuke and prescribe the school precepts aimed at the following ten benefits: 1-The good for the assembly. 2- Peace for the congregation. 3- Suppress and prevent evil actions. 4- Promote a gentle and peaceful lifestyle. 5- Prevention of gonorrhea (àsava)[2] in the present. 6- Eliminate the contraband or in the future. 7- Bringing faith to people who do not have faith. 8- Increase faith for those who already have faith. 9- Consolidating the existence of the Dharma (Saddhamma) including the Dharma Study (Pariyattisaddhamma), the Practice (Patipattisaddhamma) and the Dharma Accomplishment (Adhigamasaddhamma). 10- Support Precepts. After the Sudinna case, the Buddha made the following precepts popular: " A bhikkhu who engages in conjugal affairs commits the offense of pàràjika (pāra-di, great precepts, non-residency), is not allowed to live in association. asamvasa) in them .”
Angulimala left home after killing 999 people [3]
One morning, the Buddha entered Sàvatthi for alms. After his alms round, he found a place to live alone in a forest. After finishing his life, he got up and went to the suburbs along a large deserted road. Some farmers saw the Buddha and rushed to say: -World-Honored One, it is very dangerous to go this way today. It is said that the murderer Angulimala (Uuong Quat Ma, No Brain) is present in this area. He is a very violent person, killing people without fear, and the military is feared. Every time he killed someone, he cut off that person's little finger, put it on a chain around his neck, now he has thousands of fingers. Many people have come to the Buddha, saying so. But Buddha just thanked him and kept going. When the road was completely empty of people, Angulimala saw the Buddha, immediately hid in the shadow of a tree by the side of the road, watched for a while, then took the knife and ran to the street. At first he ran slowly, then he ran faster and faster, until he was sweating profusely and still could not keep up with the Buddha, while he saw the Buddha just walking calmly. He shouted angrily: -That monk, stop! - Angulimala, although walking, the Tathagata has stopped. And you, have you stopped? - Hey, monk, you are not lying!? You said you stopped, why did I run after you all this time without catching up? –That's right, Angulimala, the Tathagata stopped long ago. For a long time, the Tathagata has not killed or injured any life. As for you, you have killed many people with the evidence of the wreath made of fingers on his neck. His hands and his soul were covered in blood. It was he who had to stop. Angulimala, happiness cannot be found by killing. Killing only causes fear, hatred and suffering. This, Angulimala, only actions that give joy, save suffering, be gentle with everyone, and forgive all the mistakes of others will bring happiness. Angulimala was very surprised. For a long time no one dared to approach him. For a long time no one dared to look at him even from afar. But today, this monk seems majestic and calm standing in front of him, looking him straight in the eye, using gentle and gentle words to advise him. That's right, this one was none other than the recluse Gotama that he had heard of. Angulimala put down the knife to the ground, bowed down at the Buddha's feet, and cried while saying: - Venerable Sir, I am Ahimsaka (Innocent One) I would like to pay homage to the Blessed One. I am very sorry to have met the Blessed One so late. I've done so many crimes, I can't stop. I have no way to atone for past mistakes. The military and the people will not leave you alone. - Ahimsaka, knowing how to do good, repent of mistakes, return to the right life, it is never too early or too late. Ahimsaka, if you join the mendicant congregation, resolve to live the holy life, diligently practice according to the Dharma, then the Tathagata will have a way to protect you. “ World-Honored One, from here on, I vow to repent, forsake evil and do good, and resolve to follow the Buddha to learn compassion. I ask the Blessed One to accept me as his disciple. –Come, Bhikkhu Ahimsaka, live a holy life! Just then the venerable Sariputta, Ananda, Upali, Kimbila and many other mendicants appeared. When they heard that the Buddha was entering the dangerous area of Angulimala, the great Germans rushed to find the Buddha. Now seeing that the Buddha was safe and Angulimala had submitted, everyone was overjoyed. Buddha told Master Upali to cut Ahimsaka's hair; Ananda teacher gave Ahimsaka a sanghàti shirt; Sàriputta and Upali taught some basic precepts and Dhamma. Then everyone followed the Buddha back to Jetavana Vihara. Returning to the Jetavana monastery, Angulimala told the Buddha about his life as follows: Angulimala (Ang Kuo Ma, No Brain) when he was a child was named Ahimsaka (Innocent Man). His father was Bhaggava, the national teacher of King Pasenadi of Kosala. Mother is Mantani. He was father to Taxila [4](Taksasila) studied with a famous guru. Ahimsaka was so intelligent that he became an outstanding disciple. Because of that, his friends were jealous, making up stories about him having an affair with the teacher's wife. His teacher believed, got angry, plotted against Ahimsaka by commanding him to kill a thousand people and hand over a thousand little fingers of his right hand so that he could teach many special miracles. Ahimsaka thought it was true, obeying. After killing a few people to cut off his little finger, he was wanted by the authorities and had to hide in the Jalini forest. Once he became a formidable murderer, high martial arts, demonic incarnation, even the imperial army was in awe. King Pasenadi ordered the arrest of Ahimsaka and offered a prize to anyone who caught him, but so far no one has been able to do this. Tight fingers, he wore it like a garland around his neck so that it would not be eaten by birds or animals. That's why people called him Angulilàla (Wreath made of fingers). When he had 999 fingers, the people were too scared to leave the house, the guards were very strict, Angulimala had to work all night without finding the last finger. He intended to sneak home to cut off his mother's finger. But in the middle of the road, he met Buddha. For ten consecutive days, the Venerable Ahimsaka was instructed by the Venerable Upali on the precepts and the Venerable Sariputta taught the teachings and methods of sitting meditation, walking meditation, almsfood, long life... Venerable Ahimsaka made an effort to learn. and practice diligently. Half a month later, when the Buddha visited Ahimsaka at his master's house in a secluded place in the Jetavana monastery, the Buddha was also amazed at his progress. Ahimsaka became a dignified, gentle mendicant with calm and calm speech. Rumors that Angulimala had asked to be ordained as a follower of the Buddha reached King Pasenadi's ears. The people and courtiers both felt relieved. The prestige of the Buddha and the mendicant congregation grew stronger. About a month after Angulimala ordained, King Pasenadi went to the Jetavana monastery to visit Buddha and asked: " World-Honored One, I heard that the murderer Angulimala asked to be ordained to follow you, is that true?" Where is he now? Did he do anything harmful to the Blessed One? - Great King, indeed Angulimala has left home. Currently, he is practicing in a quiet place in the monastery. He was determined to reform the law, live a holy life, and practice diligently. The Tathagata advised him to practice in retreat until the end of this season. - The Blessed One, Angulimala is an extremely dangerous murderer, a great threat to everyone. The Blessed One should be careful that people watch over him. " Don't be shy, great king, Ahimsaka has now become a devout mendicant, he has many more prospects for further advancement. –World-Honored One, if that were the case, it would be a great blessing for the people in Sàvatthi, everyone would be free from fear and anxiety, and be able to do business safely. What I could not do with mighty troops, the Blessed One accomplished with compassion, not only saving the people from fear of death, but also saving the murderer Angulimala into the path of holiness. I would like to pay respects.
Ananda was chosen as a regular attendant for the Buddha
In about 20 years from the day the Buddha attained enlightenment, he has had a total of eight attendants [5] . These are the teachers Nàgasalàla, Nàgita, Upàvana, Sunakkhattà [6] , the novice Cunda, Sagattà, Radha and Meghiya. But these are only nominated on a provisional basis. No one has had enough virtue to be a regular attendant for the Buddha. This year the Buddha was 55 years old, one day he said to the Venerable Sariputta: - Hey, Sariputta, now the Tathagata is old. Sometimes when the Tathagata says "Let's go this way", someone will go that way. There were also people who dropped the Tathagata's robes and bowls. So, teachers, please choose one person to regularly serve the Tathagata. [7] - Venerable Sir, Venerable Sariputta said, I would like to volunteer to be a regular attendant near the Blessed One. –No, the Buddha replied, he is also old and still has to take care of more important things such as organizing, operating and guiding the Congregation. Venerable Moggallana and many other famous disciples also volunteered to be attendants, but the Buddha refused. Particularly, Venerable Ànanda was still sitting quietly. During a dharma talk at Loc Mau lecture hall in Dong Vien vihara, the great disciples of the Buddha came up with two important suggestions as follows: 1- To suggest that teacher Ànanda be a regular attendant for the Buddha; 2- It is suggested that from now on, every time the season comes to settle down, ask the Buddha to return to Sàvatthi for summer. The first suggestion was given by the Venerable Sariputta. Venerable says: -Brother Ànanda is the one with the most enduring memory among us. Brother's memory is amazing, no one in this world can match it. Whenever the Buddha taught something in the presence of brother Ànanda, the teachings of the Buddha did not fall anywhere. When repeating what the Buddha taught, brother Ànanda repeated without missing a sentence, without losing an hour. Therefore, if you serve as an attendant for the Buddha, you will have the opportunity to hear everything the Buddha has to say, whether for a crowd or for a single person. Any teachings of the Buddha are precious and need to be fully recorded as a document for posterity. Over the past 20 years, we have foolishly let down and lost a lot. So Brother Ànanda should take on the responsibility of being an attendant for the Buddha for the sake of all mendicants and for future generations. The mendicants present at the meeting all agreed with Venerable Sariputta's opinion. Venerable Ànanda seemed hesitant. Teacher said: – I find there are many inconveniences if the brothers send me as an attendant for the Buddha. Not sure if Buddha was willing to let me be his attendant. Because of this, it may be known as favoring those in the Sakya clan. For nun Mahā Pajàpati, who is a legacy of someone who is also very tough. As for Rahula, from the day she became a novice, she never slept in the Buddha's retreat, or sat down to eat alone with the Buddha. For me too, Buddha never allowed me to be too close. As for me, I am also afraid to bring a whisper whenever a brother is called by the Buddha to rebuke. At this point, Venerable Ànanda looked at Venerable Sariputta and continued: -The same goes for brother Sariputta. The brother was praised by the Buddha as the most intelligent and talented among the disciples. The brother is a very effective assistant to the Buddha in teaching as well as in organizing. Most of the brother's suggestions were accepted by the Buddha. Therefore, he was envied and slandered by some brothers. I am afraid that if I accept to be an attendant, I will not be able to avoid those things. I don't want to lose peace with any of the brothers. Venerable Sariputta laughed and said: -Personally, I don't mind being misunderstood or envied, of course if I can avoid it, that's fine. The most important thing is that when we realize what really benefits the majority, we must have the courage to do and accept responsibility, even if someone misrepresents us, we should not be discouraged. Brother Ànanda, we know you are a very thoughtful person. But if the brother does not accept to be an attendant, the Dharma will be greatly disadvantaged, not only for the present mendicant congregation but also for many generations to come. Venerable Ànanda thought for a long time, then said: -I agree to be an attendant if the Buddha himself tells me to, and if none of the brothers object. In addition, I ask the Buddha to accept the following eight petitions: 1- The Buddha did not give me the robes offered by his good faith. 2- The Buddha did not give me food items made by his good faith. 3- The Buddha did not allow me to stay in the same room. 4- The Buddha did not allow me to follow him when he was invited by the benefactor. 5- The Buddha will gladly accompany me when I am invited by a benefactor to give me a meal. 6- The Buddha will gladly allow me to lead guests from far away to ask for an audience with him. 7- The Buddha will gladly allow me to come to the White House whenever I have doubts. 8- The Buddha will happily repeat the sermon he preached in my absence. Venerable Upali commented: -What Brother Ànanda said is all right; I'm sure these will be approved by the Buddha. Only the fourth thing I feel is not good. If the brother did not follow the Buddha when he was invited to live, how could he listen to the Buddha's teachings and repeat them to us? Maybe those are new things that Buddha never said. It is better to have another brother come along. Venerable Ànanda laughed: - What Brother Upali said is not good. What if the donor is only able to make offerings for two people? –That day, the Blessed One and the two brothers ate a little less. The teachers laughed together happily. The issue of attendants has been resolved, and the teachers discuss about inviting the Buddha to settle down every year in Sàvatthi. Sàvatthi now has two large monasteries, Jetavana (Ky Vien) and Pubbàràma (Dong Vien). There is also a small monastery for nuns. Taking Sàvatthi as the central practice headquarters for the Buddha and the mendicant congregation is very convenient. In neighboring countries, those who want to meet the Buddha but do not know where he is, just go to Sàvatthi in the season of retreat to be met. It is an equal opportunity for everyone. The bhikshus and bhikshus from neighboring countries could come to Sàvatthi to live with the Guru without any problems, because great donors such as Anàthapindika and Visàkhà had made a vow to offer food, medicine, clothing and shelter for any bhikshus who come here. After the end of the Dharma talk, the great teachers went to the Buddha's retreat to present the ideas of the crowd. The Buddha gladly accepted both proposals.
Venerable Ahimsaka (Angulimala) was assaulted [8]
After the settling season. One day, Venerable Ahimsaka returned from his alms round to the monastery, limping, his face and face covered with blood. Venerable Svastika saw it and ran to help him. Venerable Ahimsaka asked him to bring him to see the Buddha. Today while going for alms in the city, he was recognized by a group of people as Angulimala. They surrounded him and attacked him with sticks and sticks. Ahimsaka clasped her hands in front of her chest, absolutely neither fighting nor running away, letting them beat her. After a while, seeing the teacher fall to the ground, they left. He tried to stand up, slowly walking back to the monastery. Seeing Ahimsaka in a pitiful state, Buddha stepped forward to help him. Venerable Ànanda quickly went to get a bowl of water and a towel. Buddha himself wiped Ahimsaka's face and wounds. He told Svastika to go and gather medicinal leaves to apply to his wounds, and then tore off an old robe and bandaged it with cloth. Ahimsaka's monastic robes were tattered and covered with blood and dust. The teacher's bowl was broken. Buddha comforts: " Ahimsaka, bear with courage the consequences of the suffering you have sown over the years. I should pray that my pain today alleviate the suffering of those who have lost children, fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters because of me. Teacher should generate great compassion, great joy, great equanimity to wash away evil karma and hatred. You should be happy to think that today you have paid off some of the blood debt. - Venerable Sir, I understand. I have gladly paid the blood debt. Paying off debt is a joy. I pray that my pain today alleviates the suffering I have caused. - Very well, then please go back to the hospital to recuperate for a few days. Mr. Ananda will find him a sangati shirt and another bowl. Venerable Ahimsaka bowed and withdrew.
Venerable Ahimsaka saves a pregnant woman [9]
Venerable Svastika led Ahimsaka to his home. Ahimsaka smiled and told the Venerable a story that happened not long ago. One day, while Ahimsaka was about to enter the city for alms, he met a poor woman in labor about to give birth under a tree by the side of the road, in a deserted place. The young woman groaned in pain alone but still couldn't give birth. Venerable Venerable exclaimed, “Too bad! so miserable!”, then the master ran back to Jetavana to report to the Buddha what to do to help the pregnant woman. At that time there was not a nun or nun there. Buddha said: - Teacher, go to the other woman and make a vow like this: " Miss, from the day I was born until now, I have never intentionally violated the life of any species. May she give birth to a child because of that truth ." –That's not possible, venerable sir, that's why I'm lying. You have already violated the lives of many people! – If so, then the teacher said, “ Miss, since the day I was born in the enlightened Dharma, I have never intentionally violated the life of any species. I pray that thanks to that fact, she gives birth to a child in peace .” Master Ahimsaka immediately ran to where the pregnant woman was groaning. He hid behind a tree and repeated exactly what the Buddha taught. A few minutes later, the young woman gave birth to the baby safely. The teacher went to find someone to help him. After being assaulted, Master Ahimsaka lay dormant on the bed to recuperate, on the third day he opened his eyes and looked at Mr. Ànanda sitting next to him, smiling and saying: -Brother Ànanda, I have committed many crimes and have to go to hell, fortunately, thanks to the compassionate World Honored One, saved me. Today, the debt has been paid off, I enjoy good results. Having said that, Ahimsaka closed his eyes and entered nirvana shortly after. The Buddha was informed, said in verse: "The person who has caused evil karma "Knows how to do good and cultivates" Like the full moon without clouds "Lighting up the whole world.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).BUDDHIST DHARMA WHEEL GOLDEN MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.8/10/2021.
