Central Sutra I – Fear, Fear, Fear. VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.
Terror of Fear – Bhayabherava Sutta.
Like this I hear.
Once the Blessed One was in Sāvatthi (Sāvatthi), at Jetavana (Ky Da Lam), his garden Anāthapiṇḍika(Level of Solitude). Then the BrahminJānussoniWhen he arrived at the Blessed One's place, when he had arrived, he spoke to the Blessed One with greetings and greetings, and after saying hello and greeting his friends, sat down to one side. Sit down to one side, BrahminJānussoni White World Honored One
—Venerable Gotama, there are good men, for the sake of the Venerable's faith Gotama, has ordained, abandoned the family, living without family. To these, VenerableGotamais the leader. To these, VenerableGotamahelp a lot. To these, VenerableGotamais a book promoter. They accept to follow the Venerable's point of viewGotama.
—It is so, Brahmin. This is so, brahmin. There are good men, brahmin, who, because of their faith in me, have left home, left home, and live without family. I am their leader. I have been of great help to them. I am their encouragement. And they accept My views.
—Venerable Gotama, how hard it is to endure remote abodes in the wild mountains! It's hard to live far away! It's hard to enjoy the solitary life! I think that the mountains and forests disturb the mind of a bhikkhu who has not yet attained samadhi.
—It is so, Brahmin. This is so, brahmin. Brahmin, how hard it is to endure remote abodes in the wild mountains! It's hard, life is far away! It's hard to enjoy the solitary life! I think that the mountains and forests disturb the mind of a bhikkhu who has not yet attained samadhi.
Once upon a time, brahmin, when I had not yet realized perfect enlightenment, when I was still a bodhisattva, I thought thus: "How difficult it is to endure abode in remote places, in wild mountains and forests! It's hard, life is far away! It's hard to enjoy the solitary life! I think the mountains and forests disturb the mind of a bhikkhu who has not yet attained samadhi!"
Then, brahmin, I thought: "Which recluse or brahmin, whose bodily karma is not pure, lives in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests, due to pre-infected causes. , bodily karma is not pure, those venerable ascetics or brahmins will surely cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I have no impure body, live in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests. My karma is pure. I am one of the Saints, with a pure body and karma, living in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests." I, brahmin, I have observed for myself this perfectly pure body of karma, and I have felt my self-confidence more vindicated, while living in the mountains.
Brahmin, depending on this matter, I think as follows: "Which recluses, or brahmins, have impure oral karma... (as above) ... pure ... (as above) ... has an impure life living in remote places, in the wild mountains, due to the pre-infection of impure lives, the Venerable Sa-Mons or Brahmins It inevitably causes fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I do not have an impure life, living in remote abodes, in desolate mountains and forests. My life is pure. I am one of the Saints, with a pure life, living in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests." I, brahmin, I have observed for myself this perfectly pure life, feeling myself more confident in living in the mountains.
Depending on this matter, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those ascetics or brahmins who are lustful, have strong cravings, live in remote abodes, in forests. In the wild mountains, due to the cause of being infected with lust, having strong craving, those venerable ascetics or brahmins are sure to cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I have no lust, intense desire, and live in remote abodes in the wild mountains and forests. I have no lust, I am one of the Noble Ones, without lust, living in remote abodes, in the wilderness of the mountains and forests. Brahmin, I have observed for myself that I have no such lust, and I feel myself more confident when I live in the mountains.
Depending on this matter, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those ascetics or brahmins with a mind of ill-will and ill will live in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. Vu, due to pre-infected causes, has a mind of ill-will and ill will, those venerable recluses or brahmins are sure to cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I do not have a mind of anger or ill will, living in remote abodes in the wilderness of the mountains. I have a heart. I am one of the kind-hearted saints, living in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests." Brahmin, I have observed that I have such loving-kindness, I feel more confident in myself, living in the mountains.
Depending on this matter, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those ascetics or brahmins, dominated by dullness and laziness, live in remote abodes, in forests and mountains. desolated, due to the pre-infectious causes of being dominated by dullness and slumber, those venerable recluses or brahmins are sure to cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I am not dominated by laziness and laziness, living in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. I don't have sedation. I am one of those saints who do not have laxity and laziness, living in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. Brahmin, I have observed myself without such laxity and laxity, feeling myself more confident when living in the mountains.
Depending on this matter, brahmin, I think thus: 'Which recluses or brahmins are wavering, unsettled in mind, living in remote abodes, in mountains and forests. desolated, due to the pre-infectious causes of agitation, the mind is not calm, those venerable ascetics or brahmins are sure to cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I have no wavering, my mind is not unsettled, and I live in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests. I have no wavering, my mind is calm. I am one of those saints who have no wavering, peace of mind, live in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests.” Brahmin, I have observed for myself how peaceful my mind is, and I feel myself more confident when I live in the mountains.
In this regard, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those recluses or brahmins who doubt, hesitate, live in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. Because of the predisposition to doubt and hesitation, those venerable recluses or brahmins inevitably cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I have no doubts, no hesitation, living in remote abodes, in the wilderness of the mountains. I can eliminate hesitation. I am one of the sages who can eradicate doubt and live in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests.” I, brahmin, by observing my own mind, am able to eliminate such doubts, and feel my self-confidence more confirmed, while living in the mountains.
In this regard, brahmin, I think thus: 'Which recluses or brahmins praise themselves or criticize those who live in remote abodes, in the wilderness of the mountains, Because of the pre-contamination cause of praise and criticism of others, those venerable recluses or brahmins inevitably cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I do not praise myself or criticize others, living in remote abodes, in desolate mountains and forests. I do not praise myself, do not criticize others, I am one of those saints who do not praise themselves, do not criticize others, living in remote abodes, in desolate mountains and forests. Brahmin, I examine my own mind, I don't praise myself, I don't criticize people like that, I feel myself more confident, when I live in the mountains.
In this regard, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those recluses or brahmins who are trembling and afraid live in remote abodes, in the wilderness of the mountains, due to the pre-infected cause of trembling and fear, those venerable recluses or brahmins inevitably cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I do not tremble or fear, living in remote abodes, in the wilderness of the mountains. I have no hair on my head, live in remote abodes, in desolate mountains and forests.” Brahmin, I contemplate myself that I have no hair on my head, I am one of the Noble Ones, without such hairs standing up, I feel myself more confident, when living in Mountain forest.
In this regard, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those recluses or brahmins who desire gain, respect, and fame, live in remote abodes, In the wild mountains and forests, due to the pre-infected causes of desire for gain, reverence, and fame, those venerable ascetics or brahmins inevitably cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I have no desire for gain, respect, or fame, living in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. I am a man of little sex. I am one of the sages with few desires, living in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests." Brahmin, I observed myself as such a man of few desires, feeling myself more vindicated, while living in the mountains.
Depending on this matter, brahmin, I think thus: 'Which recluses or brahmins are lazy, lacking in diligence, living in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. Vu, due to the pre-infected cause of laziness and lack of diligence, those venerable recluses or brahmins inevitably cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I am not lazy, not diligent, living in remote abodes, in the wilderness of the mountains. I am diligent and diligent. I am one of the diligent, diligent sages, living in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests." Brahmin, I observed myself as diligently, diligently, feeling myself more confident, when living in the mountains.
In this regard, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those recluses or brahmins who are absent-minded, not fully aware, live in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. Vu, due to the pre-infection of lack of mindfulness, lack of awareness, those venerable recluses or brahmins inevitably cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I am not absent-minded, not without awareness, living in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. We dwell in mindfulness. I am one of the holy ones who dwell in mindfulness, living in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests." Brahmin, I observe myself as I dwell in such mindfulness, feeling myself more confident when living in the mountains.
Depending on this matter, brahmin, I think thus: 'Those ascetics or brahmins who are not still, whose minds are scattered, live in remote abodes, in forests. Desolate mountains, due to the pre-infection of not being calm, mind being scattered, those venerable ascetics or brahmins are sure to give rise to fear, terror, and unwholesomeness. I am centered, my mind is not distracted, and I live in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests. I achieve concentration. I am one of the sages who have achieved concentration, living in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests." Brahmin, I have observed myself achieving such concentration, from feeling more confident in myself, while living in the mountains.
Depending on this matter, brahmin, I think thus: 'Which recluses or brahmins are paralyzed with wisdom, stupid, living in remote abodes, in the wilderness of the mountains and forests? . Due to the pre-infection of intellectual paralysis, stupidity, those venerable ascetics or brahmins inevitably cause fear, terror, and unwholesomeness to arise. I do not have paralysis, stupidity, living in remote places, in the wild mountains and forests. I have achieved wisdom. I am one of the saints who have accomplished wisdom, living in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests." Brahmin, I have observed myself accomplishing such wisdom, feeling myself more vindicated, while living in the mountains.
In this regard, brahmin, I think thus: 'In the known, determined nights, the fourteenth night, the fifteenth night, the eighth night of every fortnight, in such nights as Therefore, let Me dwell in fearful abodes, with hair standing on end, as shrines in the gardens, shrines in the forests and mountains, and shrines in the trees, that I may see fear and terror. it". After a while, brahmin, in the known, determined nights, the fourteenth, the fifteenth, and the eighth night of every half of the month, on such nights, I come to dwell in abodes. In such a terrifying land, hairs are standing up like a temple in the gardens, a temple in the mountains, a temple in the trees. Brahmin, while I was in those places, an animal might come, or a peacock might drop a branch, or the wind might shake the fallen leaves; We start thinking: "Now that terrible fear has come!" Then I thought, brahmin: "Why am I here, expecting fear and terror and nothing else? In whatever act of Mine comes that fear and terror, in that act and gesture, Let Me put an end to that dread."
Brahmin, while I was walking back and forth, and fear came, brahmin, I did not stand, I did not sit, I did not lie down, but I put an end to fear and terror. while I was walking back and forth. Brahmin, while I was standing, fear and terror came, brahmin, I did not walk back and forth, I did not sit, I did not lie down, but I put an end to fear. fear while I was standing. Brahmin, while I was sitting, and fear came, brahmin, I did not lie down, I did not stand, I did not walk around, but I put an end to fear and terror. that while I am sitting. Brahmin, while I was lying down, fear came, brahmin, I did not sit, I did not stand, I did not walk around, but I put an end to fear. that while I lie down.
There are, brahmins, some ascetics and brahmins who think that day is like night, that night is like day. Thus, I say that those recluses and brahmins live in ignorance. I think, brahmin, that night is night, that day is day. Brahmin, whoever speaks righteously will say thus: 'Whoever is without delusion is born into the world for the happiness of all beings, for the welfare of all beings, out of compassion. for the world, for the benefit, for happiness, for the well-being of Gods and humans. When he speaks truthfully about Me, he will say the following: "As a sentient being without delusion, born into the world for the happiness of all beings, for the welfare of all beings, out of compassion for the world, for the benefit, for happiness, for the well-being of gods and humans.”
Brahmin, I am diligent, diligent, not lazy. I abide in mindfulness, there is no disturbance, the body is calm, there is no wavering, the mind is calm, single-minded.
Brahmin, I am separated from sensual pleasures, away from evil dharmas, and attain and abide in the first jhāna, a state of bliss born of separation from sensual pleasures, with four reach.
Killing the search, killing the four, I witness and stay in the second Zen, a state of bliss born of concentration, no search, no quartet, one-pointed inner calm.
Rejoicing in the equanimity, mindfulness and awareness, feeling the pleasure of life, which the Saints call equanimity, I witness and abide in the third Zen.
Ease and release suffering, kill joy and sorrow that I have felt before, I realize and abide in the fourth meditation, without suffering and without pleasure, with pure mindfulness.
With such a calm, pure, unblemished, unblemished, afflicted, pliable, easy-to-use, firm, equanimous mind, I direct it, directing it to complete life wisdom. I remember past lives, like one life, two lives, three lives, four lives, five lives, ten lives, twenty lives, thirty lives, forty lives, fifty lives, one hundred lives, two hundred lives. aeons, a thousand births, a hundred thousand lifetimes, many decaying kalpas, many becoming kalpas, many decaying kalpas, and eons of completion. I remember, "In that place, I have this name, this family, this class, this kind of food, this kind of happiness and pain, and such a long life. After I died there, I was born here. In this place, I have such a name, such a family name, such a caste, such a dish, such a happy life, such a long life. After dying here, I was born here.” Thus I remember many past lives with outlines and details.
Hey, Brahmin, in the first night of the watch, I proved to be the first one, ignorance destroyed, intelligent birth; darkness disappears, light arises, while I live without distraction, enthusiasm, and diligence.
With such a calm, pure, uncontaminated mind, free from afflictions, pliable, easy to use, firm, and equanimous, I lead the mind, directing it to birth and death the wisdom of sentient beings. I, with my pure divine eye, see the life and death of sentient beings. I understand that sentient beings, the lowly, the noble, the beautiful, the ugly, the lucky, the unlucky, are all due to their actions. Beings who do evil deeds in body, evil in speech, evil in mind, slander saints, follow wrong views, create karma according to wrong views. These people, after the breakup of the body, after death, must be reborn in the bad realms, in the bad destinations, in the lower realms, in hell. As for those sentient beings who accomplish virtuous actions of body, accomplish good deeds of speech, accomplish virtuous deeds of mind, do not slander saints, follow right view, create karma according to right view, those who this, After the breakup of the body, after death, one will be reborn in good animals, in the heavens, and in this world. Thus with the divine eye pure and superhuman, I see the life and death of living beings. I understand that sentient beings, the lowly, the noble, the beautiful, the ugly, the lucky, the unlucky, are all due to their actions.
Hey, Brahmin, in the middle of the night, I've been able to prove the second, the ignorance of ignorance, the birth of knowledge; darkness disappears, light arises, while I live without distraction, enthusiasm, and diligence.
With such a calm, pure, unblemished, unblemished, afflicted, pliable, easy-to-use, firm, and equanimous mind, I direct it, directing it to the wisdom of taints. I have perfect knowledge as it really is: 'This is suffering', great knowledge as it really is: 'This is the cause of suffering', great knowledge as it really is: 'This is the cessation of suffering', great knowledge as it really is: 'This is the way leading to The cessation of suffering", perfect knowledge as it really is: "These are the defilements", perfect knowledge as it really is: "This is the cause of the taints", perfect knowledge as it really is: "These are the taints or cessation", perfect knowledge as it really is. : "This is the way leading to the defilements or cessation."
By knowing like this, by seeing like this, my mind is freed from the taint of desire, from the taint of being, from the taint of ignorance. With regard to oneself thus liberated, knowledge arises: I am liberated. I have overcome the knowledge: "Birth is over, the holy life has been accomplished, what needs to be done has been done, there is no going back to this state anymore".
This Brahmin in the night of the third watch, I proved the third proof, ignorance destroyed, intelligent birth; darkness disappears, light arises, while I live without distraction, enthusiasm, and diligence.
Brahmin, you may have the following thoughts: "Now, the recluse GotamaNot having eradicated greed, not having eradicated hatred, and having not eradicated delusion, they live in remote abodes, in wild mountains and forests. Do not, brahmin, understand that. Due to Me observing two purposes, I live in remote abodes, in the wild mountains and forests. Self-seeing in the present, and for the sake of compassion for sentient beings in the future.
—Future sentient beings are venerated Gotamathought, because the false Religion is A-la-Han, Chief Enlightenment. How wonderful, VenerableGotama! How wonderful, VenerableGotama! … Like a person standing up what has fallen, revealing what is hidden, showing the way to the lost, bringing light into the dark so that those with eyes can see colors. Likewise, the Dharma has been established by the Venerable MasterGotamaUse a variety of explanatory media. I take refuge in the VenerableGotama, take refuge in the Dharma and take refuge in the Monk Sangha.
