Brahmāyu . Sutra.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.
BRAHMĀYU Sutta
Like this I hear. Once the Blessed One was traveling to Videha, accompanied by a large assembly of bhikkhus of about five hundred.
At that time, the brahmin Brahmāyu residing at Mithilā was old and weak, advanced in age, and mature, having reached adulthood, nearing the end of his life, reaching the age of one hundred and twenty, one who read and recited the holy scriptures, accepted maintain mantras, master the three volumes of Veda, with vocabulary, rituals, etymology and fifth, are stories, understand words and grammar, understand Thuan The Theorem and Dai Nhan General.
The brahmin Brahmāyu heard: "The recluse Gotama, a Sakyan, ordained from the Sakya family, is wandering in Videha, with a large assembly of bhikkhus about five hundred." The following auspicious rumors were spread about the venerable Gotama: "This is the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Enlightened One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Well-Knowing, the World-Speaker, the Supreme Being, the Conqueror. The Master, the Master of Heaven, the Buddha, the World-Honored One. With superior knowledge, he himself realized this world with the celestial world, the Brahma world, with them ascetics, brahmins, gods and humans. When he became enlightened, he even declared what he had realized. He preached the Dharma in the beginning, good, in the middle, good in the end, in full literature. He taught the holy life that was completely complete and pure. How good it is to see such an Arahant!"
At that time the disciple of the brahmin Brahmāyu was the young Uttara, who read and recited sacred scriptures, maintained mantras, mastered the three Vedas, with vocabulary, rituals, etymology, and fifth, ancients. stories, understanding words and grammar, understanding Thuan The Theorem and Dai Nhan General. Then the brahmin Brahmāyu told the young man Uttara
"Dear Uttara, this recluse Gotama is a Sakyan, ordained from the Sakya family, traveling in Videha, accompanied by a large assembly of bhikkhus about five hundred" ... It is good to see an Ara. - such a drought. Dear Uttara, go to the recluse Gotama, and after coming, find out whether the recluse Gotama is the one rumored to be, or not, or the Venerable Gotama like this, or not like this. It is thanks to you that we will know about Venerable Gotama.
- Venerable, how do I know if Venerable Gotama is Venerable Gotama as rumored, or not, or Venerable Gotama like this, or not like this?
"Dear Uttara, according to our holy scriptures handed down on the thirty-two great characteristics, those who possess these thirty-two marks will choose one of two paths, there is no other way: if it is the lay person. , will become the Holy King who conquers all lands, full of seven treasures. These seven treasures are a precious chariot, a precious elephant, a precious horse, a jewel, a precious female jewel, a treasured lay person, and the seventh is a treasured general. And this man has more than a thousand sons, who are heroes, majestic, victorious over foreign armies. This one lives to rule the earth to the end of the ocean, and reigns with the Dharma, without using a stick or a knife. If this person leaves home, abandons the family, lives without a family, this person will witness the fruit of Arahantship, Right Enlightenment wipes out the confusion in life. Dear Uttara, I gave you spells, you received them.
- Yes, venerable sir.
The youth Uttara obeyed the brahmin Brahmāyu, got up from his seat, bowed to the brahmin Brahmāyu, kept his body facing to the right, then departed to the place of the Blessed One in Videha, gradually approaching the place of the Blessed One in Videha. The Blessed One, after arriving, uttered greetings and greetings to him, and, after uttering friendly greetings and greetings, sat down to one side. Sitting down to one side, the young Uttara immediately looked to see the thirty-two great signs on the Buddha's body. The youth Uttara saw on his body most of the thirty-two great generals, except for two. For those two Great Humans, doubts arise, hesitation arises, unsatisfied, unsatisfied, that is, the sign of the hidden horse and the wide and long tongue.
Then the Blessed One thought: "This young Uttara sees in me most of the thirty-two great marks, except for two. For those two Great Humans, doubts arise, hesitant births, unsatisfied, unsatisfied, that is, the general appearance of the hidden horse and the broad and long tongue."
The World-Honored One immediately used supernatural powers to make the young Uttara see his hidden majesty. And the Mediator even stuck out his tongue, touched, and licked his ears; touch, lick up to the nostrils, and cover the entire forehead with the tongue.
Then the youth Uttara thought: "The recluse Gotama has all thirty-two great generals. So let's follow the recluse Gotama closely to see the majesty." Then the young Uttara for seven months followed the Blessed One like a shadow that never left his body.
Then the young Uttara, after seven months, departed for Mithilā in Videha, returned in turn to Mithilā, went to meet the brahmin Brahmāyu, on arrival, bowed down to the brahmin Brahmāyu, and sat down for a while. beside. The brahmin Brahmāyu said to the young man Uttara who was sitting to one side
“My dear Uttara, is the rumor about the Venerable Gotama true, not different, is the Venerable Gotama so, not different?
- The rumor about Venerable Gotama is true, not different, Venerable Gotama is like that, not different. And that Venerable Gotama had all thirty-two great marks. Venerable Gotama has flat soles. This is the Great General of the Great Venerable Gotama. Under the feet of the Venerable Gotama, a wheel appeared, with a thousand toothpicks, with a wheel hub, with complete components. Venerable Gotama has long slender heels. Venerable Gotama has long fingers and toes. Venerable Gotama has soft limbs. The venerable Gotama has a mesh screen on his hands and feet. Venerable Gotama has a round fish eye like a scallop. Venerable Gotama has shins as big as a wild goat. Venerable Gotama, standing upright, without arching his back, could touch his knees with his hands. Venerable Gotama has a hidden code. Venerable Gotama has skin color like copper, color like gold. Venerable Gotama has smooth skin that makes it impossible for dust to stick to it. Venerable Gotama has skin hairs that grow one by one, each pore has a hair. Venerable Gotama has hair that grows straight up, every hair is the same, dark green like eye ointment, swirling in small circles, and swirling towards the face. Venerable Gotama has a tall and straight body. Venerable Gotama has seven full seats. Venerable Gotama has the front half of a lion's body. Venerable Gotama has no depression between his shoulders. Venerable Gotama has a balanced body like an eagle. The height of the body is equal to the length of the arms spread wide, the length of the arms is equal to the height of the body. Venerable Gotama has a square upper torso. Venerable Gotama has a very sharp taste. Venerable Gotama has jaws like a lion. Venerable Gotama has forty teeth. Venerable Gotama has regular teeth. Venerable Gotama has teeth without gaps. Venerable Gotama has smooth front teeth. Venerable Gotama has a broad and long tongue. Venerable Gotama has a wonderful voice like the Karavīka bird. Venerable Gotama has two dark blue eyes. Venerable Gotama has a cow's eyelashes. Venerable Gotama, between his eyebrows, a white hair grew as smooth as light cotton. Venerable Gotama has a humiliation scheme on his head. This is the Great General of the Great Venerable Gotama.
When Venerable Gotama walks, he walks with his feet in front, does not put his feet down too far, does not pull his feet up too close, does not walk too quickly, does not walk too slow, when walking, his knees do not touch his knees, when walking his ankles no ankle collision; He walked without raising his calf, not stretching his calf down, without bringing his calf in, without bringing it out. When walking, Venerable Gotama moves only the lower body, and does not use his whole body. While looking around, Venerable Gotama looked around with his whole body. When walking, there is no threshold to raise your face, not to lower your face, not to look around, and only look down about a level (yugamattam, the length of a plow). Further, the view is broadened (anavatam: not concealed).
When entering the house, (Venerable Gotama) do not lean back, do not bend forward, do not bring the body inward, do not bring the body to the outside; his back is not too far from the seat, not too close to the seat; sit on the chair, do not grip the arm of the chair, do not drop the body to sit on the chair.
While sitting at home. He did not shake his hands, did not shake his legs, did not sit with his knees crossed, his ankles crossed, he did not sit with his hands on his chin. When sitting in the house, there is no fear, no trembling, no wavering, no panic. Thus the Venerable Gotama sat, without fear, without trembling, without wavering, without panic, without hairs standing up, meditating in solitude.
When receiving water to wash dishes, do not lift the bowl up, do not bring the bowl down, do not turn the bowl inward, do not turn the bowl outward, receive not too little water, not too much. He washes the dishes without making a sound, washes the dishes without spinning the bowl, does not put the bowl on the ground and then washes his hands, when the two hands are finished, the bowl is also washed, when the bowl is finished, the hands are also finished. He poured the water in the bowl not too far, not too close, and did not sprinkle it all over.
When he received the rice, he did not wish the bowl up, did not wish the bowl down, did not turn the bowl inward, did not turn the bowl outward, received the rice not too little, not too much. He eats food in moderation (with rice), without skipping a piece of rice, just choosing a piece of food. Venerable Gotama put the piece of rice around his mouth two or three times and then swallowed it, not a grain of rice entered his body without being crushed, and not a grain of rice remained in his mouth before he ate another piece of rice. Venerable Gotama does not enjoy the taste of food when eating food, does not indulge in greed. Venerable Gotama eats food that is full of the eight virtues, not for fun, not for passion, not for decoration, not for self-beautification, but just so that this body can live a long life and be protected. nurture, to prevent (this body) from being pitied, to support the holy life, thinking: "Thus,
After eating, he took the water to wash the dishes, did not raise the bowl, did not lower the bowl, did not turn the bowl inward, did not turn the bowl outward, received not too little water, not too much. He washes the dishes without making a sound, washes the dishes without spinning the bowl, does not put the bowl on the ground and then washes his hands, when the two hands are finished washing, the bowl is also finished, when the bowl is finished, both hands are also finished . He poured water into the bowl, not too far, not too close, not splashing water all over.
When he finished eating, he put the bowl on the ground, not too far, not too close, not without thinking about the bowl, not too worried about the bowl.
When he finished eating, he sat in silence for a while, but did not spend too much time saying happy words (merit). He said happy words (merit), did not criticize that meal, did not expect another meal; on the contrary, with a Dharma talk, he introduced the assembly, encouraged, excited, and delighted. After he opened the assembly with a Dharma talk, encouraged, excited, and delighted, got up from his seat and left.
He went not too fast, not too slow. He did not go (as he wanted) away from that congregation.
Venerable Gotama don't pull his robe up too high on the body, don't pull it down too low, don't stick to the body, don't let go of the body, the wind can't take off his clothes from the venerable Gotama's body; The dust did not stick to the venerable Gotama's body.
Arriving at the monastery, he sat on a chair prepared, and after sitting down immediately washed his feet, and Venerable Gotama did not dwell on the work of beautifying his legs. He sat cross-legged, his back straight, and placed mindfulness in front of him. He does not think of harming himself, does not think of harming others, does not think of harming both. Venerable Gotama sat with his mind directed to his own benefit, the benefit of others, the benefit of both, and the benefit of the whole world.
Going to the monastery, he preached the Dharma to the assembly, not praising it, not criticizing it, in contrast to the Dharma talk that introduced the assembly, encouraged it, and made it joyful. The voice that came out of Venerable Gotama's mouth had eight qualities: fluency, intelligibility, sweetness, clear hearing, fullness, clarity, depth and reverberation. When Venerable Gotama explained to the assembly with his voice, the voice did not extend beyond the assembly. The assembly after being taught, encouraged, excited, delighted, and delighted by Venerable Gotama, got up from their seats and left, still looking back, not wanting to leave.
We see Venerable Gotama go. We see (Venerable) standing. We see (Venerable) sitting silently in the house. We see (Venerable) eating in the house. We see (Venerable) after eating, sit silently. We see (Venerable) after eating, say happy words (merit). We see (Venerable) going back to the monastery. We saw (Venerable) going to the monastery to sit quietly. We saw (Venerable) going to the monastery to preach the Dharma to the assembly. Thus, and thus, is that Venerable Gotama and many more.
Upon hearing this, the brahmin Brahmāyu arose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, clasped his hands together towards the Blessed One, and uttered the following inspirational words three times.
- Homage to the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Enlightened One!
- Homage to the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Enlightened One!
- Homage to the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Enlightened One! Maybe at a reasonable place, at a reasonable time, we will go to that Venerable Gotama. Then there will be time for a conversation.
Then the Blessed One traveled in succession in Videha and went to Mithilā. There the Blessed One dwelt in the Maghadeva mango grove in Mithila. The brahmins and householders of Mithilā heard: 'The recluse Gotama, a Sakyan, ordained from the Sakya family, is traveling in Videha, with a great assembly of bhikkhus about five hundred people have come to Mithilā and resides in the Maghadeva mango grove, at Mithilā. The following auspicious rumor was spread about the Venerable Gotama: "The recluse Gotama, the Sakyan son, ordained from the Sakya family, was traveling in Videha, with a large assembly of bhikkhus about five hundred." The following auspicious rumors were spread about the venerable Gotama: "He is the Blessed One, the Arhat, the Fully Enlightened One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Good One, the World Scholar, the Unsurpassed One, the Steward of the Staff. Phu, Thien Nhan, Buddha, World-Honored One. With superior knowledge, he himself realized this world along with the heavenly realm, the Brahma world, with them ascetics, brahmins, gods and humans. When he became enlightened, he even declared what he had realized. He preached the Dharma in the beginning, good, in the middle, good in the end, in full literature. He taught the holy life completely and completely. How good it is to see such an Arahant!"
Then the Brahmins and householders in Mithilā went to where the Blessed One was, and after arriving, some bowed down to the Blessed One and sat down to one side; some said greetings to the Blessed One, after saying friendly greetings and greetings, then sat down to one side; some put their hands together to bow to the Blessed One and then sat down to one side; some named themselves and sat down to one side; some were silent and then sat down to one side.
The brahmin Brahmāyu heard this: "The recluse Gotama, a Sakyan, ordained from the Sakya family, has come to Mithilā and resides at Mithilā in the Maghadeva mango grove." Then the brahmin Brahmāyu went to the Maghadeva mango grove with a large number of brahmin youths. When he arrived not far from the mango grove, the brahmin Brahmāyu thought: "It is not appropriate for me to come to see the recluse Gotama without warning." Then the brahmin Brahmāyu said to a young man
"Young man, go to the recluse Gotama, and after coming, ask in my name how the recluse Gotama has few diseases, has little brain, is peaceful, healthy, and happy: "Venerable Gotama, Mrs. The brahmin Brahmāyu inquired of the venerable Gotama, if he had few diseases, little brains, peace of mind, good health, and happiness, and said as follows: "Venerable Gotama, the brahmin Brahmāyu is old and weak, advanced in age, and lame. mature, has reached adulthood, is nearing the end of life, has reached the age of one hundred and twenty years, a person who reads and recites sacred scriptures, maintains mantras, is adept in the three Vedas, with vocabulary, rituals, etymology and etymology. the fifth is the ancient stories, understanding words and grammar, understanding Thuan The Theorem and Dai Nhan General. Venerable sir, for the Brahmins, the householders who live in Mithilā, the Brahmin Brahmāyu is considered supreme in terms of property, the Brahmin Brahmāyu is considered supreme in terms of property. spells (manta), The brahmin Brahāyu is considered supreme in terms of age and fame. He wants to see the Venerable Gotama."
- Yes, venerable sir.
The young man obeyed the brahmin Brahmāyu, went to the place where the Blessed One was, and, after coming to say hello to the Blessed One, after saying his greetings and greetings, stood to one side. Standing to one side, the young man said to the Blessed One
- Venerable Gotama, the brahmin Brahmāyu inquired of Venerable Gotama who had few diseases, little brain, peace of mind, good health, and happiness: "Venerable Gotama, the brahmin Brahmāyu is old and weak... and Great general. Venerable Sir, for the Brahmins and householders living in Mithilā, the Brahmin Brahmāyu is considered supreme in terms of property, and the Brahmin Brahmāyu is considered supreme in terms of property. manta, the Brahmin Brahmāyu is considered supreme in terms of age and fame. He wants to see the Venerable Gotama."
“Young man, now the Brahmin Brahmāyu should do what he thinks is timely.
Then the young man went to the Brahmin Brahmāyu, and when he arrived, he spoke to the Brahmin Brahmāyu.
- The venerable has been accepted by the recluse Gotama. Now, venerable sir, do what you think is timely.
Then the brahmin Brahmāyu went to see the Blessed One. The assembly saw the Brahmin Brahmāyu coming from afar, and after seeing it, immediately avoided the places on either side because he was well known and famous. The brahmin Brahmāyu said to that assembly
"Just now, venerable ones, take your seat. Here, I will sit near the recluse Gotama.
Then the brahmin Brahmāyu went to the Blessed One's side, on arrival, uttering greetings and greetings to the Blessed One, after uttering his greetings and greetings, sat down to one side. Sitting down to one side, the brahmin Brahmāyu looked for the thirty-two great marks of the Blessed One's body. The brahmin Brahmāyu saw most of the thirty-two great marks on the Blessed One's body, except for two, with regard to those two great marks, doubts arose, hesitancy arose, unsatisfied, unsatisfied, and unsatisfied. heart, ie the general of the hidden horse and the broad and long tongue. Then the brahmin Brahmāyu said to the Blessed One the following verses:
Venerable Gotama!
Three or two Great Generals,
I've heard of,
Two I can't see
On the body of the Venerable, the
Venerable, the hidden code, the
Supreme Being of Humanity, are
you there or not?
Or a female general?
Or is His tongue too short?
Or is His tongue wide and long?
Let me really know.
Reach out your tongue,
May the Great Sage, For the
sake of our
present peace,
For our future happiness,
We ask for permission,
Ask what we want to know.
Then the Blessed One thought: "This brahmin Brahmāyu sees in my body the majority of the thirty-two great marks, except for two, with regard to those two great marks, doubts arise, hesitancy arises, unsatisfied. satisfied, unsatisfied, that is, the sign of the hidden sound and the long and wide tongue." The World-Honored One immediately used supernatural powers to make the Brahmin Brahmāyu see the hidden horse of the Blessed One, and the Blessed One stuck out his tongue, touched, and licked his ears; touch and lick up to the nostrils, and cover the entire forehead with the tongue.
Then the Blessed One replied to the brahmin Brahmāyu with this verse:
Three or two Great Generals,
You've heard of
them , They're all on my body,
sage, don't doubt!
What needs to be known, already known,
What needs to be cultivated, already practiced,
What needs to be removed, subtracted,
Therefore, I am the Buddha.
(Hey Brahmin!)
For present
happiness , For future happiness,
You are allowed to ask,
What You want to know.
Then the brahmin Brahmāyu thought thus: "Now the recluse Gotama has given me permission. So we should ask the recluse Gotama about his present or future purpose.” Then the brahmin Brahmāyu thought: 'I have been skilled in the present purpose and others have asked me about the present purpose. Let us then ask the recluse Gotama about the future purpose." Then the brahmin Brahmāyu addressed the Blessed One in verse:
What is (is) a Brahmin?
How the Vedas?
What is a three-mind?
How to call auspicious?
What is an offering?
How is the Perfection?
How is the Mani?
How to call Buddha-da?
Then the Blessed One replied in verse in verse to the brahmin Brahmāyu:
Who knows the past life,
Seeing good and evil,
Ending rebirth,
Winning knowledge is completed,
He calls Mani.
Whoever knows the purity of the mind,
Liberation calls for
covetousness , The cessation of birth and death, the
completion of the
holy life, the attainment of all dharmas,
he proclaims Buddha-da.
Hearing this, the brahmin Brahmāyu arose from his seat, put his upper robe on one shoulder, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, kissed the ground around the Blessed One's feet with his mouth, and touched the surroundings with his hands. and self-proclaimed:
- Venerable Gotama, I am the Brahmin Brahmāyu.
And that assembly's mind became wonderful, wonderful: "How wonderful! It is a miracle that the great power, the great spiritual power of the recluse caused this Brahmin Brahmāyu, with such fame and fame, to humble himself to the utmost.” Then the Blessed One said to the brahmin Brahmāyu
"Just now, brahmin, get up. Please sit on your chair because your mind has rejoiced in the Tathagata.
Then the brahmin Brahmāyu, having risen, sat on his chair. Then, in turn, the Blessed One gave a lecture to the brahmin Brahmāyu, a discourse on generosity, a discourse on morality, a discourse on the heavenly realms, and expositions of danger, inferiority, and defilement of sensual pleasures. and the benefits of renunciation. When the Blessed One knew that the brahmin Brahmāyu's mind was ready, pliable, free from hindrance, exhilarated, and faithful, he immediately preached the Dharma that the Buddhas have exalted, namely, suffering, origin, and cessation. , Dao. Just as a pure white cloth, which has been washed away from its black spots, is easily absorbed by dyes, so it is at this seat that the far-reaching dharma eye arises in the brahmin Brahmāyu's mind: "The universal Dharma Whatever is learned to arise is destroyed.” The brahmin Brahmāyu sees the dharma, realizes the dhamma, realizes the dhamma, penetrates into the dhamma, dispels doubt, ceases to hesitate, attains confidence, do not rely on others for the Dharma of the Master. The brahmin Brahmāyu then said to the Blessed One:
- How wonderful, Venerable Gotama! How wonderful, Venerable Gotama! Like a man standing up what has fallen, revealing what is hidden, showing the way to the lost, bringing a light into the dark so that those who have eyes can see form; also, the Dharma has been presented and explained by Venerable Gotama. I take refuge in the Blessed One, take refuge in the Dharma, and take refuge in the Order of Bhikkhus. May Venerable Gotama accept me as a disciple, from now until the end of my life, I would like to dedicate my whole life! May Venerable Gotama accept my invitation tomorrow to dine with the bhikkhus!
The Venerable One silently accepted. Then the brahmin Brahmāyu, when he heard that the Blessed One had accepted the invitation, rose from his seat, bowed to the Blessed One, turned his right body toward him, and departed.
The brahmin Brahmāyu, after that night was over, having prepared at his residence delicious dishes, both hard and soft, reported the time to the Blessed One: "Venerable Gotama, now It's time, the rice is ready." Then in the morning the Conqueror put on his robe, took his bowl and robe, went to the abode of the brahmin Brahmāyu, and on arrival sat down on the seat prepared with the bhikkhus. The brahmin Brahmāyu made with his own hands the assembly of bhikkhus with the Guru at the head, satisfying them with hard and soft palates.
Then, after seven days, the Blessed One set out on a journey to leave Videha. Not long after the Buddha passed away, the brahmin Brahmāyu passed away. A large number of bhikkhus went to meet the Blessed One, and after having bowed down to the Blessed One, sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, those bhikkhus said to the Blessed One
- Dear Sir, Brahmin Brahmāyu has passed away. What is his rebirth, how will his future rebirth be?
“Bhikkhus, the brahmin Brahmāyu is a sage. He follows the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma, without disturbing me with accusations about the Dharma (Dhammadhikaranam). Bhikkhus, the brahmin Brahmāyu, having abandoned the five lower fetters, was reborn, and from there entered Nirvana, with no return to this life.
The Ten Powers of Wisdom preached thus. Those bhikkhus gladly accepted his teaching.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).BUDDHIST DHARMA WHEEL GOLDEN MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THE WOMEN OF THE SAKYA CLAN CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.14/9/2021.
