EXPLAINING WORDS - Body punishment : Kayadandam: Wrong deed of body: Wrong actions of the body lead to afflictions and confusion. - Oral punishment : Vacìdandam: Wrong deed of speech: Wrong actions of the mouth (words) leading to affliction and confusion. - Mind penalty : Marodandam: Wrong deed of mind: Wrong action of mind leads to disturbing disturbing emotions. II. CONTENTS OF THE UPALAI 1. In the Pavarikamba forest, Nalandà, foreign master Nigantha Dìghatapassi came to see the Blessed One and exchanged views on the theory of karma (Kamma). Dìghatapassi affirms Nigantha Nàtaputta 's position on Karma that: "There are three types of doing bad karma, for the progress of bad karma, that is, physical punishment, verbal punishment and mental punishment (different). Body punishment is the most important leading to evil now . " The World-Honored One advocates that among the three karmas, body, speech, and mind, mental karma is paramount for the purpose of creating ill will and for the development of evil karma. 2. After that, Nigantha Nàtaputta sent the householder Upāli, a famous person from the Ni-khārāna, to argue with the Blessed One about the doctrine of Karma with great preparation in the hope of defeating the World Honored One's theory of Karma. But the truth is the opposite, after the Blessed One stated the truth based on reality, the intention kamma is the decisive factor to form kamma. Upali turned to the Blessed One with admiration. 3. Upàli who is famous and very rich, is the support of the material Nigantha. The Blessed One advised Upali to continue to protect Nigantha. This made Upali more respectful of the attitude of the Blessed One, and asked to be a disciple of the Blessed One for the rest of his life. The Blessed One continued to speak of Upali's enlightened Dharma, in turn, in the order of the dharmas: Generosity, Virtue, Heaven, danger, pollution of sensual pleasures, and their renunciation: followed by the Four Noble Truths. Upàli, right where listening to the Dharma, expensive French eyes without ceiling, separation; " Whatever dharmas arise, all those dharmas are annihilated ." Upàli, after realizing the Dharma, wholeheartedly respected the World-Honored One, praising the boundless wisdom, and the end of craving...
