Therefore, each country has its own way of worshiping and offering . The form of worship and this reflects the customs of each locality. How to set up a Buddhist altar , how to worship , how tochanting , the ritual instruments to harmonize the sound of verses and verses are different from place to place. Music of the country also influence the ritual worship in temples. Because classic not assign a form of worship should many places, because the influence of the religious other, the custom of traditional , the ritual is full of personality superstition superstition income makes people indifferent easy to have a judgment mistake about Buddhism .
Currently still ways of worshiping, sacrificing some religious old days used to, the ritual that Buddha and every saint disapproval received. In Vietnam before and until this day, some localities still keep the custom of burning votive papers at pagodas. Many people come to the temple to worship to pray for Buddha's blessings, for good business and good fortune, for the birth of precious children , for good health, etc. But anyway, the ways of worshiping and worshiping are steeped in human nature , and the forms of worship are banned. influenced heavily by customs outdated, cannot be modified overnight . I just hope that these rituals don't lead to superstition, causing those who lack right faith to cling to and enslave to those forms , which give birth to greed , bigotry , and distraction from the path of enlightenment and liberation .
The Buddha criticized these forms of heavy worship . So how should we make offerings to be called noble offerings ?
In the Mahāparinibbāna Sutta , Dīgha Nikāya speaks of the last days of the Buddha , it is recorded that:
One day the Buddha approached the city of Kusinara, went to live in King Malla's Sala forest. When he arrived he said to Venerable Ānanda :
- Hey Ānanda , Tathagata tired want to lie, spread berth for the Tathagata , the first building on the north side, between two trees Nagarjuna ( SALA) .
- Please, venerable sir .
Venerable Ānanda listened to the Buddha's words , spread his head to the north, between two long-life trees . Then the Buddha lay down, leaning to the right, lying like a lion , left foot resting on the right, keeping mindfulness and fully awake .
At that time, even though it was out of season , the two Sālā trees were still in full bloom, blossoming from stem to tip. Flowers were scattered on the Buddha's body to make offerings . Welcoming United Foe ( Mandarava ) aerial gently falling, then came up and sown on the body Tathagata , heavenly music resound, of the heavenly music from nowhere is far more to offerings Tathagata .
"But this Ānanda not so reverent , worship , offerings , made glorious Tathagata where. Behold Ānanda , whatever Bhikshu , nuns , friendly male or female religious public practice true Dharma , living right feet in Dharma , preserve the dignity, high bar, he has reverence , worship , offerings and glorious Tathagatain a noble way. Therefore, Ānanda , one must practice diligently , practice according to the right Dharma , live righteously in the right Dharma , and maintain noble conduct."
How noble! Nice instead! Word teachings golden last of Buddha . Until the last moment, he still found the opportunity to remind the Sangha :
"After the Tathagata 's death , you should take the precepts as your teacher. Correctly carry out the teachings of the Tathagata . That is the noblest way of making offerings to the Tathagata ."
Therefore , when we burn incense to make offerings to the Three Jewels , we are not offering to the Buddhas the fragrance of incense and flowers , but by the fragrance of morality, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and knowledge of liberation . For there is no fragrance as fragrant as those five noble fragrances. Let us use the fragrance of precepts, concentration, and wisdom to form a fragrance that spreads throughout the ten directions and makes offerings to the Buddhas. But how to get those pure fragrances ?
If you want to have that pure fragrance to make offerings to the Buddhas, if you want to have that noble fragrance as a means of enlightenment and liberation , practice according to the right Dharma that the Buddha taught.
The Buddha 's teachings are many, but the focus is on nothing but the practice of precepts, concentration, and wisdom to eradicate greed, hatred, and delusion. Buddha has summarized the teachings of his four following verses:
Sabba papassa akarana ṁ
Kusalassa upasampadā
Sacitta pariyodapana ṁ
Eta ṁ Buddhāna Sāsana. (Dhammapādā 183)
Do not do evil
Do good deeds .
Keeping the mind pure
is the Buddha's teaching.
This can be seen as weak just a summary of Buddhism , a manifesto clear , simple, easy to practice , easy to express . To live like that is to make offerings to the Buddha in a noble way.
Depending on the ability of each person, the Buddha taught a different practice but still went to the same goal of enlightenment and liberation . As every house lay , he taught life triangle regulations , maintain the five precepts , onions Cross charity , alms , meditating ... to escape samsara samsara , disturbing pain, leads to peace , purity . The ten virtues are:
The body does not kill , does not steal , does not commit adultery .
- Speech does not lie , does not divide, does not speak in vain , does not speak cruelly.
- The mind is not greedy , not angry , not wrong view .
To do these things is to make offerings to the Buddha in a noble way.
Precepts are the first step of Buddhism . The ability to settle down, the ability to generate wisdom . Only pure precepts have concentration, and strong concentration have wisdom. "Five precepts of real human nature and thoroughness". Therefore, without precepts, it is difficult to be reborn as a god, and as a human being, it is even more difficult to attain enlightenment and liberation .
Gender is the basic foundation . About to improve speech and action, paving the way for the conversion of the spirit . But in order to purify the mind, there must be concentration and wisdom. That means meditating. Because only meditation has the ability to put an end to afflictions and suffering. There are two types of meditation:
Samatha meditation or meditativecalm, developconcentration, help the mind to dwell calmovercome thefive hindrances spiritual: lust , anger , dullness torpor ( skin under , drowsiness ), Trao Exchange ( oscillation , regret ) and skepticism . Vipassana meditationorinsight meditation, promotingwisdom, uprooting thefive hindrances,intuitively the truth impermanence , suffering , no self of all beings , attaining the ultimate liberation .
Practicing precepts, concentration, and wisdom for liberation is to follow the Buddha's teachings , to make offerings to the Buddhas in a noble way.
In short , how to donate noble, precious than everything offerings is practice the teachings which the Buddha was enlightened and compassionate revelation for us . However, the forms of worship are not unnecessary , it is an opportunity to generate goodwill in people 's subconscious , a habit for people to do good deeds , and happy moments ., is an opportunity for the body, speech, and mind to gradually move away from the five desires , a chance for the heart to open up to receive the light of truth . Therefore, while Buddhists come to the temple to worship , those responsible for spiritual guidance for Buddhists need to take this opportunity to remind good men and women to do good, avoid evil, give alms , observe precepts , meditate, etc. Only then will their coming to the temple to worship will bring many benefits to both the present life and the futurefuture . The usual forms of worship and offerings , if supported by the practice of the right Dharma , are not far off the road to a place of peace and tranquility :
