Born Buddha - A stream of compassion and equality.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
... Indeed, the Buddha's equal compassion always spreads to all species, to all forms of life on earth, big or small, near or far, visible or invisible. , was born or about to be born, as he said in the Compassion Sutra of the Pali Canon: ...
Born Buddha - A stream of compassion and equality
Starting from the birth of the Buddha, a thought revolution was also born as a crown prince, but not swept away by the material luxuries of the jade palace, Prince Siddhartha soon awakened to the scene. birth, old age, sickness, death, and constant human life. At the age of twenty-nine, one night, the prince and the coachman named Xa Nac left the capital city, determined to set out to find the Truth. The next morning, seeing that he had come a long way, he got off the bus, changed his prince's clothes and gave it to Xa Nac to bring him, just put on a yellow cloth, hugged a bowl, decided to turn his back. the luxurious life, material surplus, surrounded by the servants, the prince farewell Xa Nac, stepping on the difficult road ahead.
After six years living in poverty, misery, practicing many cultivation methods with many masters, but he was not satisfied, kept going, searching forever. In the end, he realized that all of those masters have not yet come out of the circle of ignorance. From that perspective, he no longer relied on a teacher from the outside, stopped searching, but had a shadow on his own, turning inward to illuminate himself.
His fight to overcome himself is extremely tough. With the belief that if he did not live a life of austerity, he would not be able to be liberated, he closed himself in discipline, lived austerities, in extreme hardship and need, only wearing a piece of clothing, only eating a bit of dried seeds and herbs, so that his body, which was a beautiful and majestic prince, was now only skin covering the skeleton. But that torture of the body did not make Him see the Truth. In the end, after almost collapsing from extreme misery, he found that the lavish lifestyle that drags people down because of material infatuation, the lifestyle is too poor, too extreme, it makes the mind. I'm tired, I don't have the will to pursue big. From this point of view, He chose the path of a neutral, without the extremes of physical torture or the slavery of lust, Always keep a balance with the necessities of life to have enough health, but not indulge the demands too with necessity. This neutral path has been used very successfully by Buddhist practitioners to this day.
From that discovery, he stopped practicing his body and received some raw food offered by the benefactor. Thanks to that health, he gradually recovered, his spirit was clear, he purified his mind, no need for any supernatural power to support him.
After 49 days and nights meditating under the Bodhi tree, at dawn, when the Plum Star flashed in the sky, he awoke, enlightened the Truth, became the Great Enlightened One, became Buddha. He said the first words, after his enlightenment: " Through many lifetimes in samsara, the Tathagata travels forever and ever. Tathagata search forever without meeting. This house is very painful over and over again. Hey, home builder, Tathagata has found you. From here on you will no longer build a house for Tathagata. Your creation is also destroyed . (Dhammapada - The Dhammapada, verses 153-154) And the noble statement: " I am a Buddha, and sentient beings who are Buddha will become".
Beings here are not only for humans, but also include all sentient beings manifested through many different forms of life in all the realms, because all sentient beings have awareness. suffer, love, fear and want to live. His proclamation expresses absolute compassion and equality for all living beings. He not only spoke plainly, but He applied that declaration throughout his life of propagating the dharma of birth.
Summer in India rains heavily so insects proliferate due to the humidity. So the Buddha invented the summer retreat season, every year three months from the full moon of April to the full moon of July, so that monks and nuns would not go out, avoid stepping on insects.
Out of boundless compassion, he discouraged the monks from cutting trees and digging soil, because doing so could kill microorganisms. The reason it is possible to practice this world is because in the time when Buddha was still living in India, the monks embraced the alms of alms daily and did not need to cultivate for a living.
He enacted the Rule of No-Slaughter, asking people not to kill by themselves or to tell others to kill. He asked to cherish the sacred value of life, to protect life for all living beings.
He also condemns all forms of destruction of life, and while on earth he firmly opposed Brahmanic sacrifices, bringing ill-fated animals to the gods' sacrifices. He also condemned the king's pleasures of hunting. And of course, he is opposed to all forms of violent war. He advocates the idea of nonviolent compassion. Hatred cannot be eliminated by hatred, he said. Only compassion can hate hatred. Without compassion, hatred will build up from life to life. Only compassion can open up the unjust and suffering of human ..
Once, the Buddha gave a lecture to Mr. Cap Co-Lon about the merit of the offering. He said, " Making offerings to the Buddha and the Sangha has great merit. But having greater merit is building a monastery for the Sangha to live and study. Having greater merit than building a monastery is to take the three rules of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Having more merit than the three rules of life is keeping the five precepts. To have more merit than keeping the five precepts is to keep the mind of compassion, even just for a moment. But having more than all merit is observing deeply the impermanence of things " . (Tang Chi IV pp. 264 - 265).
In the above text, we see very clearly that the Blessed One is extremely focused on the practice of compassion. The merit of keeping the mind of compassion is greater than building monasteries for the Sangha, greater than making offerings to the Buddha and Sangha. If you practice as the Sutra of Compassion teaches, if for a lifetime while walking and lying down holding a thought of compassion, compassion to all people, all beings, the merit will be extremely great, hard to think about. The compassionate mind is, at the basic level, the thoughts and actions that cherish life, protect life and not harm it. Everyone wants to live and wants to have that life protected. Even plants, rivers and air need to be cared for and protected, for all have good life and are interrelated with each other. Protecting the environment, also protecting life.
Indeed, the equal compassion of the Buddha has always spread to all species, to all forms of life on earth, big or small, near or far, visible or invisible, born. or about to be born, as he said in the Compassion Sutra of the Pali Canon:
“ May all people and all species live in safety and happiness, and have a gentle and relaxed mind.
May all creatures of the earth live in peace, weak, strong, tall, short, big, small, visible, species we cannot see, species of proximity, species of distance, species of birth and species of birth.
May no one kill any species, no one will take one's life lightly, no one may out of anger or malice but hope that anyone will suffer and be miserable . "
His compassion is immense and vast, he treats everyone equally, regardless of nuns, enemies, from kings, kings, feces carriers, shepherds. Even the murderer Anguilimala or the prostitute Ambapali was taught and accomplished by him as his great disciples.
The story of the murderer Angulimala in the Pali scriptures eloquently illustrates how the boundless compassion of Buddha transformed the mind of a ferocious murderer and also shows the power of his heart Angulimala's compassion resulting from later practice is always stronger than any negative karma he has created.
Angulimala is a notorious murderer. His name is taken from the fact that he wears a necklace with the right index fingers of the victims he killed (Anguli means finger and mala is string). The soldiers of the court searched for him, and the people were afraid to leave the house.
One morning, the Buddha entered the city, carrying his bowls to beg for alms, when he heard footsteps running behind him. He knew that Angulimala was chasing, but calmly walked evenly. Angulimala called out loudly: "Mister, stop!" The Religion continues to go, not faster, not slower. His performance is very natural. Seeing this, Angulimala shouted out loud: "Stop! The mendicant, stop! “The Blessed One calmly continued to walk, fearlessness. Angulimala ran faster only in the moment he had caught up and exclaimed: "I told you to stop, why don't you stop?". The Blessed One still walked, said with a calm voice: "Hey Angulimala! I stopped a long time ago, it is you who haven't stopped yet. " Angulimala could not understand the meaning of these words. So he asked again: "Hey mendicant, Why do you say that you have stopped and I have not stopped? "The Buddha replied:" I say that I have stopped because I have given up killing sentient beings. I have renounced violence, massacred all species and have dwelled in love for all species, patience and wisdom from contemplative thinking. But you have not given up on killing and treating others cruelly, nor have you dwelled on compassion and patience towards all sentient beings. Therefore, he is still one who has not stopped yet. ”The calm attitude and Buddha's reply surprised Angulimala and suddenly let go of regret. From then on, Angulimala (new name Ahimsaka) practiced very diligently, became one of the great disciples of Buddha and attained enlightenment thereafter. In Brahmin society, the class division is described as extremely harsh, the lower class touching only the upper class is enough to be guilty of beheading, then a view of equality is ultimately, equality not only between people and people, but on the level of living beings like that of the Buddha, it must be said that the Buddha made a great revolution. Right up to this twenty-first century, in many countries around the world, people are still struggling to gain equal rights between men and women, between colors, and so on, Buddha, the way now more than two thousand and five hundred years, has declared: " There is no difference between the tears of the same salt and the drops of blood with the same red ", noble words of the Great Sense!
During the span of more than two thousand and five hundred years of Buddhism, not a single drop of blood was shed because of the spread of the Dharma. The Buddha was forever the first and greatest heir to ever live in this world. His thoughts of equal compassion have flowed like sweet streams spreading everywhere, everywhere, bringing peace to sentient beings. Perhaps he was also the first Patriarch to go to the battlefield to find a way to stop the war. He resolved the conflict between the Sakya tribe and the Koliya tribe when the two sides were preparing to attack because of the water dispute of the Rohini River. He also persuaded King Ajatasanu to give up his intention to attack the kingdom of the Vaiji tribe.
More than two thousand five hundred years have passed, even though everything has changed, the blue sea has turned into a field of mulberry, but the stream of equal compassion from the root of Infinite flows to this day, still spreading day and night to awakening, enlightening the human race immersed in suffering, hatred and ignorance.END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.3/5/2021.
