The custom of releasing lanterns of flowers in  Vu Lan ceremony  began in the 6th century, and has the meaning of amnesty for spirit, ancestors sacrifice, dispel disasters, sickness, and pray for peace. From then on, this ceremony became an indispensable part of the full moon day of July.

Buddhism also emphasizes that this day is Vu Lan, which is a good day for boys to be pure, to practice in the direction of Buddha, a hundred times more blessed. One side is holy to worship, the other is hungry, soothes the evil, glorifies the good, is a holiday of profound human significance.
 
In some traditional places of Buddhism, this day the monk is not allowed to go out, but must sit in a quiet place and practice diligently.
