What is the date of Vu Lan's filial piety?

Every year, on the 15th of the seventh month of the lunar calendar (the solar calendar will fall around mid-August), all Vietnamese people do a special ritual: Choose  a rose on the bra : Those who have a mother, choose Red rose to pay tribute and honor, whoever lost his mother put on a white rose shirt to commemorate.

What is ULLAMABANA Holiday? The origin of the celebration of filial piety

Vu Lan's filial piety ceremony  stems from the legend that Bodhisattva Muc Kien Lien has cultivated righteousness in the past. In remembrance of the born man, he used the omniscient insight and found his mother being tortured by a hungry devil. However, because the mother's karma was so heavy that he could not save, he went to ask the Buddha. The new Buddha taught that it is only through the cooperation of the monks everywhere and the aspiration to be transformed.

Listening to the Buddha's words, Bodhisattva Mundi Lien made his vow on the full moon day of July, the day when monks from all over the world gathered to join Tu Tu Tu. After that, His mother was released. From this legend, the human world takes the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar as the day of commemoration of merit and parents in general, called the Vu Lan Reporting Ceremony.

Over thousands of years, Vu Lan's filial piety has become a cultural beauty in Vietnamese beliefs. It not only carries the meaning of sacred religion but also shows the cultural life of the people. The Vu Lan ceremony educates people on the merit of bringing up and being born of their parents, and commanding people to live in a meaningful life.

When did the commission on the shirt come from  ?

A very meaningful activity of Vu Lan festival is to put roses on the shirt. Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam informed that the activity of putting roses on this shirt came from Japanese custom. According to Japanese custom, the rose symbolizes happiness. Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh in a visit to Japan saw the Japanese put flowers on the chest. After learning the meaning of this act, he brought this custom back to the country around 1960. In Vietnam, roses in the shirt show homage to his parents. Each rose color has a different meaning.

Yellow roses during the ULLAMBANA festival are a special occurrence. It is for those who are ordained. Monks borrow the body born from their parents to practice and save sentient beings. The salvation of human beings to enlightenment is a way of repaying the greatest gratitude. It is a way to honor parents in the present and in many other lives.

Monks have wider parents than all sentient beings. Therefore, wearing a yellow rose represents a noble soul, a noble heart. Yellow is the color of Buddhism. It represents liberation, conception, and insight. Therefore, during the Vu Lan festival, the practitioner also wants to borrow the rose color to express the true spirit of this holiday, which is liberation. END=NAM MO SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA.( 3 TIMES ).GOLDEN AMITABHA MONASTERY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.AUSTRALIA,SYDNEY.18/8/2020.
