Overcoming illness.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.
In order to overcome illness, one must look directly at its illness; Because seeing and understanding can overcome it. The Buddha taught that people must go through four stages: birth, old age, sickness and death; it is normal, or the indispensable law of the world of birth and death.
People are born and die, but the body must also be old and sick, which is impermanent, not important. However, if we think that it is impossible to overcome the theorem of impermanence for aging, death and death is to fall into the ant section; Because according to Buddha, we have to start from the impermanence and practice to realize the truth of ordinary feet and live forever with the feet, in order to truly be a true Dharma practitioner.

Indeed, step by step up the path of holiness according to the Buddha, the practitioner from impermanence recognizes the ordinary feet, from the life of arising and passing, to realize the continuous life and from the continuous life to realize eternal and eternal life. . The monks, or the Bodhisattvas, who practice from the limited birth in this mortal world, see their continuous life, that is, lives from previous lives to this life and many more to come. . And ordinary beings only see life existing in this life and die. Bodhisattvas do not see that, but each person has a life chain that closely connects past lives with present life to countless lives. Thanks to the correct insight, the Bodhisattva is able to perfect the Sambhogakaya and the Dharmakaya, and to have eternal life. Typically the life of Shakyamuni Buddha, when he was a Prince Siddhartha, He was not content with the limited life of human suffering, only embarked on the path of seeking the truth to overcome the mortal life of the human world and to find the immortal human being in Himself and in each ours. In the Lotus Sutra, the Buddha asserted that from the very old days, he practiced Bodhisattva, and felt that his life span until now was not over, but that every day, his life or Sambhogakaya and Dharmakaya kept growing bigger and bigger. , never stop. Therefore, enlightened people realize the continuous life, can cultivate the Bodhisattva path, attain the supreme attainment of Right Understanding, and have eternal life. only embarking on the path of seeking the truth to overcome the mortal life of the human world and to find the immortal in Himself and in each of us. Conscious of this, we live in the world of arising and passing, starting to look at the Bodhisattvas and practicing Mahayana Dharma, to see our continuous life and those of those involved. See how? According to other religions, everything created by God, before birth, we are nothing and after death, our destiny is decided by God, or He takes to Heaven for enjoy merit, or He will fall to hell under punishment There is also a religion that says God will beat both the soul and the body of a person to dissipate.
Only Buddha didn't teach that. He affirms that the destiny of man is not decided by any Creator, but it is man who determines his own destiny. According to Buddha, our destiny for the sake of continuous life is a movement from one life to the other. The thought of this continuum of life burned into the mind of Buddha when he was a Prince, always thinking that where people came from and where they died. Today, when a Venerable Master passes away, the teacher often reminds the Buddha's teachings that he should return to where he came from. From Nirvana, or from Bliss, we have to be mindful of it; in other words, returning to the previous place from each person's previous life.
The Buddha taught that if you want to know our previous karma, look at the present result. If the past karma is sick, then this life will be weak, if people have karma, it will be blocked and harmed by karma. Thus, through the present life we realize the past karma. Also, as humans, we also receive the cause of being born as a human. If we have six bases in full, then what is the cause? Born in a life that is handicapped, poor, sick, or despised, trampled, etc., all that is not good and unwholesome is this past karma, or sickness. A practitioner who can overcome illnesses is going beyond the past karma and creating a better future for himself.
I was born in a poor family, in a fierce war zone and a weak, sick body; I know this is my own past karma, so I step by step strive to practice, overcome the sicknesses and get good results today. That is my own experience learning Buddhism.
Our past karma has shaped our shape and living situation, called karma. Want to cure karma, must combine the treatment of both body and mind disease; because the disease itself produces a mental illness and the mental illness affects the body. Indeed, the sick body and the bad living situation, the mind cannot be happy and vice versa, if our mind is angry, suffering, sorrow will torment, torment our body, causing this body to flare up emits many diseases. Kinh Nghiem called it all the same coincidence, the old career created artificially created a new career and the new industry has the opposite effect for the old industry to grow stronger.
Understanding the past karma, we seek worldly physicians to cure their bodies; If the mind is sick, thanks to the moral virtue of transformation. I clearly see that the mind is easily born of a sick body, that is, the disease arising from the inner karma creates a bad external situation. Consciousness like that, we practice, less concerned about the outside to take care of adjusting inner karma; because the external circumstances reflect the inner karma. According to the Buddha, it is necessary to think about why to be born in a poor family, or to have an ugly, ugly body; we will realize that our inner karma created those bad things. Just by overcoming the inner karma, the body and external circumstances will change. Therefore, To Quy Son taught that: Noi should carve the concept of merit, foreign affairs, without any competition; means austerities, efforts to lower meticulous manual transformation to each mind within, is the main, left and right than losing on this life does not bother. The inner mind changes well, the bad external situation will take itself away. Most people only worry about accreting on the outside, the more the inner mind is lost; in the end, must be in a gloomy situation.

Thus, following the Buddha, we deeply realize that all the good and bad deeds and success or failure are determined by the karma of each person. Having to adjust the ten evil karma in your being, you must see that the real person inside is good karma or bad karma. If combined with good karma, the circumstances of the living and the general outside must be good. If constructed with negative karma, the circumstances of life and the external appearance must be bad. Chu Thien by virtue of perfecting ten good karma, should be born in the realms of Heaven; but if they are blessed in Heaven, they go down to earth and make the Holy King Turn, is the emirate heads society, heads the tribe. As for the creators of ten evil karma, their lives are gloomy, hanged to death, and consciousness enters hell.
I personally observe a person, often looking at their negative karma or good karma and behaving with that good karma or bad karma, rather than outward conduct. Or look at people who treat me and know their bad karma or good karma. Many people do not understand this idea, complaining that they are good and why their lives are not good. They are not really good, but wrong recognition is good; because the inside is bad, so there cannot be good results.
Returning to this reality, in what family, in what society, in what life, our body and psychology, etc ...; All the manifestations in this present life tell us what we really are. We have to honestly accept the truth in order to recognize our true self, seeing that we are bad, we must correct it by combining body and mind adjustment. There are many adjustment methods. Initially, the Buddha taught that cultivators do not pray for health, because being healthy, greed and desire are easily born. Reading this idea, we realize that if we are old, or ugly, sick, we can cultivate easily; because no one would notice me, no one dared to be close to me. The fact clearly shows where the sick, people also fled.
However, in the Lotus Sutra, the Buddha taught other Bodhisattvas, if they are empty-handed, how can the Bodhisattva give alms and make offerings, which cannot create merit. Obviously "Easy to cultivate" here, but "Difficult" elsewhere. Easy to practice Thanh Van, but difficult to achieve Bodhisattva conduct. Without good physical conditions, it is easy to cultivate, meaning no one is disturbed and easily enlightened; in other words, the Bodhisattva manifested General Thanh Van so that he would not be disturbed by external social material, nor disturbed, so it was easy to go deep into meditation to discover his true self; so in "Easy" there is "Difficult", easy to cultivate because not to be disturbed, but from that easy to cultivate into meditation, to find an immortal human being and to live with that immortal human being is not simple. Anyway, I have to say it's incredibly difficult.
In the early stages, there must be a quiet life to achieve the enlightened wisdom, "There is a new understanding of the mystery", that is, renouncing the human world, living in a secluded place, discovering the mysterious in life. . It is a therapeutic solution that helps us overcome the first disease that is disturbed by many people, affected by predestined circumstances, how to cultivate. As such, when I was a novice monk, living in the Buddhist school at An Quang temple, I chose to practice Thanh Van, often avoiding communication with others and away from the noble and the opposite sex, for fear of disturbing the mind. soul. I choose to clean the toilet to approach the dirty scene, see if my mind still likes this life or not. Thanks to that, I quickly absorbed the Dharma and received the Buddha's blessing. And the brothers are not enlightened, but prefer to approach life,
The first thing I did was to treat the sickness with the medicine of the Four Noble Truths, which is to cultivate almonds, to live far away from life, even though I am living in the middle of my life, but completely alone. That is the core of the Lotus Sutra, the Buddha taught to be separated from sex, to be separated from life in order to realize the truth, to recognize one's true self, to recognize the true life. And after being treated by the Four Noble Truths, that is, having wisdom, we look at another life before, not the surface of life with green, yellow, red and white, but looking directly at the social life in Ta she and the life of each person, with his own pure mind. In the Dharma Lotus Sutra, I am fond of the Buddha's verse saying: If attained Arahant without believing in the Dharma Flower is the Venerable Sangha, that means one must see clearly all kinds of the world.
Currently, I see Buddhists often use the Four Noble Truths to overdose. Must adjust drugs to suit each stage, each sick, can not use this medicine to treat other diseases. The Buddha taught that the greedy people must contemplate bad situations, like I have to clean the toilet to see the filth from the beautiful man, but the Buddha likens the human body to a dirty container. inside. When the Buddha was alive, he told the monks to go to Thi Lam to meditate and observe the corpse closely to eliminate craving. The mind is governed by such a method, and the body teaches the Buddha to restrict eating, dressing, and staying, called Tam often inadvertent. Today, doctors also say that mental illness accounts for half of all human illnesses and half of body diseases.
Thus, we realize the close union between body and mind. The craving for greed and hatred has a close relationship with the body, so the more greed and anger are, the more likely the disease will arise. Frustrated mind will make the body unable to sleep and insomnia continuously, inevitably produce many other diseases, until death. Austerities must know how to adjust body and mind, adjust eating and sleeping. Nowadays, we see clearly that people who eat a lot get sick a lot, and some people get sick who eat, always eat. Eat too much fat, have surgery to remove fat, and then continue eating again. According to Buddha, eating just enough, or eating a little bit, clearly shows that the body is healthy, especially meditation practice should limit eating. When not eating dinner, our minds are brighter, more alert, easier to read. Eat a lot, then fall asleep easily, read books, do not understand, recite sutras.
Curing anilments, the consumption is reduced partly, no need to worry about earning a lot of money, to be peaceful, to have time to practice spiritually. The material life is reduced, the greed is also mild; so on, improving the material and spiritual life, not enjoying much. Practicing, eradicating a mind "Join" combined with three things is eating, wearing, and living, then eat less, sick body is also less, mental illness is also less so, overcome the disease. The Great Teacher also taught that not only limiting eating but also restricting inappropriate food will immediately cure ailments.
In addition to regulating the body by adjusting to eating, and the qigong training method helps us to transport qi in a beneficial way, regulating the body's meridians, eliminating toxins out, avoiding diseases. I am healthy by practicing chivalrous practices since studying in Japan.
Thus, practicing the Dharma and adjusting to eating, exercising, and supporting a relatively good health for spiritual advancement are to overcome the mental illness and the sick body. And this physical body is bound to be weak, old, sick, and dead is normal and inevitable of this world of birth and death.
For Buddhist disciples, the important thing is how to regulate the human being continuously inside, not to let it die and die. According to the Buddhist path of practice, our continuous life keeps growing, called the dharmakaya body. Specifically, the higher the age, the more our karma decreases, the brighter the mind, the more compassionate mind becomes; that is to build merit and wisdom according to the Dharma and ultimately, to be contented in Ta We, we must also leave this body of the four elements. But it is important that we bring with us the blessed wisdom that we have cultivated to pass on to our next life with the blessings of wisdom and bodhichitta, then make sure that we practice the Bodhisattva path easily. than.
Most of us have many hatreds, because in many rebirths we have created that. Looking back at the holy, spiritual practitioners, such as the Buddha who exists in this life, He has turned all the bad people into good people. It is the inner merit of Buddha that converts all bad situations into good, it is the Buddha's wisdom that can educate many people to believe, respect, respect.
In short, putting all faith in the Buddha's teaching that we have continuous life from many past lives to this day and forever after that, we rely on this being and strive to promote the mind. wisdom and blessing to nurture our own Sambhogakaya and Dharmakaya, strengthening our continuous life. Being so, although the four great bodies are old and sick; but our true inner being is not old, not sick. This fake is dead; but our body and legs do not die. We go to Nirvana, or to the Pure Land, or into another world to practice according to our wishes; it is an automatic overcoming in both the body and mind of man in the world the phenomenon of hundreds of thousands of differences.
