THE LAST TEACHING OF BUDDHA.VIETNAMESE TRANSLATE ENGLISH BY=VIETNAMESE BUDDHIST NUN=THICH CHAN TANH.

   

During the 49-year practice of the Buddha, he did not hesitate to go everywhere from east to west, from north to south, from country to country to propagate the Dharma. Whenever his footsteps came, the golden light shined with splendor. The seeds of compassion are diligently planted throughout India and Tibet. He was blessed by the people from the poor to the rich, from the king to the people, from male to female charity, from old to young. Wherever there was a golden light, heresy and paganism had to stay away, disappear like clouds, like darkness before sunrise.

When Buddha's enlightenment was full, he was 80 years old. Like all people in this world, his four great forms also follow the law of impermanence. Despite knowing three months before his passing away, he did not take a rest and continued to go on a mission.

One day, the Buddha said to Ananda:
"My religion is now complete. As previously prayed, I now have all four disciples: Bhikkhu, Bhikshunis, Bhikkhus-bhikkhus (good men) ), Uu-di-di (female believers). Many of my disciples can transfer the dharma car, and My Tao has spread everywhere. Now I can leave you and go away. The law of impermanence, now like a worn-out vehicle, I borrowed it to carry the Fa, now that the vehicle has worn down, the Dharma has also spread everywhere, so what do I still regret doing this emaciated body? A Nan! In three months I will pass away. "

Below is a summary of Buddha's final instructions.

«Although my body is not healthy, but my compassion, my intelligence is not inferior. I still do not have a day that day is not a useless day ».

In a forest next to the town of Cau-na (Kusinaga, also known as Kuçinagara), today is a small town called Kasia, 50 kilometers east of Gorakhpur province, and 150 kilometers north- northeast-Varanasi (Bénarès), Buddha resting between two sa-la tree. He folded his robes four times, then lay on his right hand side, head facing north, facing west, his legs straightened, one foot on the other. Buddha then spoke the final words to the disciples to remind once again the importance of the Dharma. Buddha reminded his disciples to understand that their teacher is not a character at all, even if it is Buddha, their true teacher is the Dharma. Buddha spoke and told the disciples sitting around him like this:

«Ye, make torches for yourself, light yourselves, rely on your own strength; Do not depend on anyone. My teachings will serve as a torch to guide you, a refuge for you; There is no need to depend on any other teachings.

«Look at your bodies, you will see how unclean that body is. When you understand that pleasure and pain of the body are just the common source of suffering, when you understand that, you will not be able to let go of the desire that governs you.

«Look at your minds, you will see that mind constantly distorted. So you will not be able to let go of yourself into the illusions of the mind, and then maintain your pride and selfishness, especially when you understand that emotions are most samadhi only brings suffering.

«Look at all the surrounding objects to see if any objects are permanent? Are there objects that are not composite objects? All will be broken, disintegrated and scattered. Do not be afraid to see suffering everywhere, follow my teachings, even after I have perished. So you will eliminate suffering. Indeed, follow my teachings, and you will surely become my true disciples.

«My disciples, the teachings I preach to you, you must never forget, never let them go away. These teachings must be preserved, studied and practiced. If you follow these instructions, you will attain happiness.

«What is most important in my teachings is that you control your consciousness. Get rid of all desires and keep the body upright, pure mind and true words. If you remind yourself that your life is only temporary, you will be able to eliminate all the cravings and aggressiveness that lead to suffering.

«If you realize that your mind is tending to cling to or become entangled in desire, you must immediately reject the desire and stop the temptation. You must master your minds.

The mind has the ability to turn a person into a Buddha or an animal. When we fall into confusion, we can become devils, but when we become enlightened we will become Buddha. Therefore, you must control your mind and not stray from the right path.

«In order to keep up to my instructions, respect each other and don't quarrel. Do not imitate water with oil pushing each other; mimic water and milk, completely blending.

Let's study together, teach each other, practice together. Do not waste your consciousness and your time in quarrels or laziness. Be glad to receive the fragrant flower of Enlightenment at the time of flowering and pick the sweet fruits on the Road of True.

«The teachings I give to you are due to my own experience, and I have followed that path. You should obey those instructions and keep them in spite of any difficult situation. If you are distracted, it means that you have never met me, you are really still somewhere far away, even though right now you are sitting beside me. But on the contrary, you accept and put into practice my teachings, even though you are far away in the end of the world, just as you are beside me in at this time.

«My disciples, my last minute is near, the moment of separation between me and you is not long. However you should not mourn. Life is a constant change and nothing can hinder the disintegration of the body. The fact that, I am proving for you right on my body, my body will disintegrate like a broken vehicle. Do not cry in vain, on the contrary, you must rejoice when you realize that changing law and understand that human life is nothing. Do not try to maintain the unreasonable aspirations, to want what is transient must become permanent.

«The demon of worldly desires always seeks to deceive your consciousness. If there is a poisonous snake in the room, you will not be able to sleep quietly unless you chase it out. You must cut the bonds of worldly desires and remove them as you chased the poisonous serpent out of the room. You must guard your mind very carefully.

«My disciples, my last moment has come, but you must understand that death is only a disintegration of the physical body. The body was born by parents, it grew up with food, it had no way to avoid illness and death. A true Buddha does not carry the human body, but only a mere Enlightenment. There is only Enlightenment. The human body must dissipate, but the Wisdom of Enlightenment will endure forever in the reality of the Dharma, on the path of Dharma practice. If anyone sees only my body, he does not really see me. Only those who accept our teachings can truly see us.

«After I pass away, the Dharma replaces me as your teacher. Knowing to follow the Dharma, that is how you show loyalty to me. For the last forty-five years of our lives, we have not hidden anything from the teachings. There is no secret teaching, no word is implied. All of our teachings are given in a truthful and transparent manner.
