A. Open Topic
Thanks to the four foundations of mindfulness, we have clearly seen the truth of life. These are: impure body, impermanent mind, selflessness and suffering. Seeing that painful truth clearly, we must work, try our best to get out of their dangerous claws.
To that end, diligence and diligence are the first and foremost conditions in our liberation.
In life as well as in religion, every person who wants to achieve good results in his life must always work for him. Especially austerities, but the result is the ceiling, the glass is permanently happy, the process, the effort to endure more endurable, supple to achieve.
More than anyone else, the Buddha understood the importance of the form of the self, so he taught us before going deep into the Path, to prepare the necessary means, to show a determined attitude: Determined to stay away. evil and good things. That is the meaning of the "Four Right Needs" which we will study below.
B. Right Concise
I. Definition of the Four Right Needs
Four Right Effort is a four-effort diligence effort that works with the right path. The four essential skills are:
1. Effort to prevent unwholesome evil.
2. Effort to eliminate evil.
3. Effort to develop good things that have not yet arisen.
4. Effort to continue developing the good things that have arisen.
II. Conception of Evil and Good in Buddhism
Before doing good to avoid evil, we must know clearly what is good and what is evil. Evil things are things that can harm us and people now and in the future. They are always against love, equality, wisdom and truth.
On the contrary, good things are things that can benefit us and people, now and in the future. They are always compatible with compassion, equality, intellect and truth.
With these two definitions, it is not necessary to wait until it is revealed by action to be called good or evil. Even in thought, and most importantly thought, has already distinguished good or evil. According to Buddhism, the three arising places of good or evil are: body, speech, and mind. Thus, a gesture, a word or a thought, can be either good or evil. Therefore, the Buddha taught us to prevent evil, or to do good, even when they are in consciousness.
III. Content Of The Four Right Need
1. Effort to prevent evil not yet arising: My mind has not yet dreamed of evil, so I have to try to preserve it, do not let it arise, as well as the rope tying the buffalo's nose, holding it, not feeding rice .
Here are a few specific examples that can occur daily in our lives:
When we want to organize a hunting trip, to get toast with friends, but we think: "I am a Buddhist disciple, I have taken the three precepts, the five precepts, maybe dare to forget the vow, kill sentient beings, and drink alcohol! " So we don't carry out the hunt anymore.
When the mind arises to cheat, in order to make a plan for his plan, we immediately reconsider: "My lost person knows sadness, then the loss of people is not happy! Besides, I have vowed my whole life without greed whose small object, how dare I forget my vow? " After thinking that, we no longer carry out the dark scheme anymore.
When the mind and heart of the moon are full of flowers, we think: "If we have vowed to spend our whole life without adultery, we have to keep up the good faith in keeping virtue." And due to that meaning, we prevent the moon.
When we want to lie in order to have our own business, we immediately think: "I have vowed my whole life to speak the truth, I must try to keep the full vow." Thus, we are free from sin.
In short, every time our mind raises a cruel thought, wants to do something evil, we have to find good reasons, think about its harmful consequences, to immediately put an end to illicit thoughts, and prevent it from arising in action.
A practitioner is afraid of disturbing enemies, deluded into his mind, robbing him of treasures of merit, so he should always take care of them, like the rich keep them: keep the walls closed, leave the cupboards locked, and keep them locked for crooks to burglary.
This prevention, keeping the evil from arising, is not limited to a certain period of time, but on the contrary, it must continue in every moment, every moment, every day, from the year. year after year, until your mind is at peace with your mind, do not think of evil anymore. This containment requires diligence, diligence, perseverance, and hope to achieve the desired results.
2. Effort to eliminate the evil that has arisen: In our lives, especially when we do not understand the Buddha's teachings and do not practice, we have committed many crimes. These crimes make our mind more and more dark and dim, like a long-term mirror, no one can clean and cannot look anymore. Now that we have realized the dangers of evil, we must resolve to eliminate it. Evil is not far away, they arise in our body, speech, and mind. So, except for the crime of preventing the body and speech, we continue to create bad karma. But the momentum of sin, like the momentum of a car going downhill, the faster it descends, the more intense it is, so in order to eradicate sin, we must use more energy, more effort, must always be diligent. , diligent to prevent the momentum of sin,
Slaughter is an evil that has caused the sins of yourself to be in debt to the flesh and the life and to harm both humans and animals.
Theft robbing people suffering from poverty, rags, sadness, untold suffering.
Adultery is an indecent thing, often causing confusion in the family and especially having a reputation of shame and loss of human dignity.
Lies lose confidence.
Talking embroidery divides favor.
Speaking of two-dimensional tongue increases grudge.
Speak cruel words, before dirty his mouth, after taking tricks.
Desires too greedy (greed) find themselves lacking in time, more and more suffering.
Angry and angry, the yard fire emerged, ruined the work and how much forest of merit was dissipated.
Ignorance is not clear Chief Justice, shady truths cause all the crimes.
If so, if the crime has accidentally borne, then any crime for example, we must eradicate the root, do not let it sprout branch again. In the meantime, we again train the healthy seeds instead of the organs, then in time, we will become pure people.
3. Effort that gives birth to good things that have not yet arisen: Many times we have good intentions, want to help one person, support others, but because of hospitality, or lack of energy, we don't realizing those good intentions. Thus, no matter how much goodwill, it will not benefit us and anyone around us. If we want to create good karma, such as saying kind words to everyone in all cases, giving to the poor, helping people with jobs, then we must not wait, but on the contrary, must be enthusiastic. , diligently do it right away. We must always motivate us, turn good thoughts into action. The French have a very meaningful proverb, to satirize those who have good intentions but never do it: "Hell is full of good intentions". (L'enfer est pavé de bonnes intentions).
So we must always be eager to develop good things, whenever they have just started in the heart, do not wait, treat until the death comes knocking on the door, regret that we have not created for ourselves. good people, so you have to go to hell.
4. Effort to continue developing good things that have arisen: Good things once the action has been revealed, let us not think this is enough, it is enough, no need to try to do more.
When we do perfect things, we benefit in two ways: on the one hand, preventing evil from harm; On the one hand, doing good is beneficial to yourself and to others. For example, when we take the precepts of killing and practicing according to that precept, we are both preventing the killing of people and things, and at the same time redeeming people and releasing them. The other precepts are the same, that is, on the one hand, "just evil", on the one hand and "cultivating good," then diligent diligence is always possible. We must learn to do good deeds, to become habitual, until every thought, every word, every good deed is done.
C. Conclusion
